Place looks ok and the location is very nice but the food sucks. We ordered dosa they were either overdone or underdone .no authentic taste. The waiter was clueless abt the order perhaps overworked cos one guy was managing the whole thing. Brought out the bill with wrong prices and then was totally confused when asked about it. So you are a vegetarian/vegan and have a craving for crepes and neat south Indian food..Dosa Place is your place to go. Very simple decor and brightly lit... I have been here thrice and have not been disappointed. Their food is not super delicious or so but good for the tummy and worth the penny spent. Here is my take on the dosas I had here... Rava Dosai - met my expectation but did not exceed Masala Dosai - exceeded my expectation Now my expectation is subjective...let me set the bar - am talking about a normal meal that sure will fill your tummy and leave a good taste in the mouth. We did try the Curd Vada and we liked it. Their accompaniments that come with Dosa like Sambhar and Chutneys were good. The sambhar tasted different every single time and I kind of liked it. At times, the owner does get you a special chutney depending on what they had in the kitchen that night. The poori we tried one night was bit oily but not super greasy or so....well what is the point in it if it is not deep fried.The channa that came with it is not your typical north indian style but has a deep south touch to it. A friend recommended coming here to try a new dosa place. I tried the other dosa restaurant in the past and really enjoyed it so I figured why not. Upon arrival, the restaurant has a very plain interior and exterior, nothing memorable or unique. The only good experience the whole night was how quickly we were seated and how often they made sure our glasses were filled with water. We ended up ordering 4 different dosas (a cheese dosa, mysore dosa masala, etc), palak paneer, a variety appetizers, and some other dishes. The appetizer arrived but we only had spoons and forks. When we asked for plates, the waitress brought us 4 (even though there were 5 people in our party), and they were all dripping wet. She brought out our food but after waiting 10 minutes, we had to remind her that she had forgotten 2 of our dishes (tsk tsk). While the dosas were good, the other "non-dosa" dishes were actually quite bad. Bad as in bland, watery, luke warm in temperature. The most off putting experience was how poor the service was. I had to repeatedly remind the waitress for utensils, straws, etc. Overall a bad experience which the food does not make up for. Definitely won't be coming back anytime in the near future. read more

Enjoyed an all around great meal here. Far from 5 stars, but the dinner was tasty and satisfied a craving. I also love that they are exclusively vegetarian. It was empty (literally) on a Friday evening, but perhaps that can be attributed to the holidays sending UB students out of town. Ordered a spicy potato dosa (good), eggplant curry (great!), and a chick pea dish (meh). I'd certainly go back for the eggplant, but wouldn't likely reorder the other two and would prefer trying something different. As expected, the food was quite spicy. I was disappointed that they were out of both naan and mango lassi - they are my go-tos at all Indian restaurants. My first time having dosa, and I am a big fan! I had the Rava Dosa with Potatoes and Onions. It was so crispy and delicious. I also tried my friend's Spicy Dosa with Potatoes and Onions, and it was soft and flavorful. The spicy one was very spicy. His also came with Vadai, which is a savory lentil donut. The Vadai was not as flavorful as I thought it would be, but I guess you dip it into the coconut chutney to soak up all the flavor. His also came with Idli which is a soft rice bread. It was nice, but also didn't have much flavor. I think I preferred the Vadai over the Idli, and the Dosa over the Vadai, with the regular Dosa slightly better than the Rava Dosa. For dessert I got a Dosa with Sugar and Butter. It was tasty, sweet, and buttery, with a slight sour taste. My friend was telling me they ferment the dough somehow before they make it. It is a good sour taste, I think. Maybe some might not like it. My friend's dessert was a warm mango tapioca pudding. It was sooo good. It reminded me of my childhood because tapioca pudding was one of my most favorite desserts. Personally I loved everything, with the exception of their coffee. The coffee tasted awful, which was sad because it ruined the good taste of everything else. read more

We were quite disappointed with this restaurant. The ambience was nice. We went for lunch. We ordered thali, dosa and uthappam. The thali was the only bearable dish. The dosa and uthappam lacked good taste. To top that, the chutney and sambhar were bland in taste. If you don't expect the food to be very tasty, then you might not get very disappointed. We went to Dosa Place on our way back from Niagara Falls to NYC as my dad was missing dosas. Can't complain in general, rava masala dosa was decent, so were the Mysore masala dosa. This place serves the best delicious dosas and at a reasonable price. I went with my friends and were welcomed by the host. We ordered rassam, rassam vadai, rava onion dosa, paper dosa, paper butter masala dosa and masala dosa. The rassam and sambhar were yummy Cetta mālāaa lēdu u bul close to the authentic south indian taste you could expect. The chutney is tasty with a bit od zing. Being South Indian and proud of my family's tradition of good home cooking, I am impressed by Dosa Place's food. Authentic south Indian food in a homey, no-frills setting. The service is prompt and friendly, and food is excellent & well priced! During lunch yesterday, I tried the chana masala & puri, which was served with a less than generous portion of chana (chickpea curry). The owner saw that I was trying to stretch the curry, so brought out an extra serving. When I was finished with the puri, there was a quite a bit of the curry left, so he brought out some rice to go with the curry (though I told him that wasn't necessary). Believe it or not, when the curry was all gone, and there was left-over rice, he insisted on bringing me some Paneer curry, all at no extra cost to me! Needless to say, I left with a very full belly and a big smile at this display of traditional Indian hospitality! :) read more

Fantastic in so many ways. The food was delicious and there were loads of options (some with only slight tweaks). Dosa: light, crispy, about two feet long. Filling: lightly spiced onion and potato, smoothly mashed. Some kind of chutney, some kind of sauce. Mango lassi was delicious and there was something different about it (haven't had one in ages so it might just be me forgetting). Service was quick and they really went the extra mile. Amazing environment and delicious food. When I was concerned about the low reviews I was skeptical to go there, but when we went inside it was a totally different environment, food and services. Mouth watering masalas, crispy large dosas very neatly made and served with topical south Indian sambar.I ordered second order of sambar just finished it alone. I think it's a family owned restaurant and the owners were very proud in taking the risk of serving pure vegetarian cuisine in a meat loving city. Every dishes, including their batham alva, are topical south Indian. I will definitely go there again and again. read more

I ate here with my daughter this past Friday. We had a fantastic experience. We ordered the Iddly appetizer, Paneer Tikka Masala and Aloo Gobi. The host was very gracious and kind. The food came out in a timely manner and was fantastic. You have to let this place be what it is and enjoy it. It is not fancy, but unique. Service is not regimented, but genuine. Went there on a whim for take out. Realized as soon as waiter said it that this place was all vegetarian. Still gave it a try although I am a pretty firm meatatarian. Definitely one of the best vegetarian places. We tried a few Indian places in the last week in different places in the east coast and we were happily surprised to see this low profile, not too fancy and simple place got such an amazing food. The thali we ordered had everything you will find in a thali in any typical tamilnadu veg restaurant, even better this one tasted more like home made. Great menu, great food and great taste. This doesn't taste like authentic South Indian food. I am surprised by other reviews that state that the food is cheap and authentic. It is neither. The dosa tasted sour which implies that the batter was excessively fermented. The medu wada was bad. I wish more yelpers rate this place to neutralize the fake reviews. read more
