I absolutely love this place! I have been bringing Billy here for almost two years now. Jessie was so wonderful to my dog, Billy. She did an amazing job grooming this feisty, Pomeranian. He always look so handsome. The grooming prices are relatively cheap comparing to Petsmart or other grooming places that I had bring Billy to. It seems like he love her as well. We actually bought a piece of painting from this grooming place because it was a not typical piece and it is a good way to support local artists. UPDATE following groomer response. I kept my initial review brief, but following your response I need to reply and add more. You said your groomer gave our dog a standard puppy cut for a Maltese. There is no standard puppy cut for a maltese. Even if there was a standard puppy cut, your groomer and I had a 15 minute conversation where we discussed the style of cut I wanted, which included a round face with some length to it. I even showed the photo (which she asked me to text to her for reference during the grooming) to help her. Not once during the conversation did she mention she would just do a standard Maltese cut. You seem to be suggesting that your groomer ignored the wishes/instructions of her client. When I collected Alfie, the groomer apologized for cutting him shorter than I asked. She said she had made a mistake on his face on the first attempt, stating that it looked like her husband, so needed to go short to correct it. Again, no mention of ignoring our wishes and doing a standard Maltese puppy cut. Furthermore, the hair on the left side of his rib cage is shorter than the right side (Surely not part of a standard puppy cut?) The groomer also did not pluck the hair in his ears, which is a basic service. Finally, your Go Sox comment is completely inappropriate. It makes the business look unprofessional and like you don't take your client's comments seriously. read more

We brought our shitzu, teacup yorkie, and pug there and always leave with wagging tails. I normally don't write many reviews but I have to take the time to share how incredible my experience has been with Dot Dogs. I'm a first time dog owner and struggled finding the right groomer for my little Yorkie-Bichon, Ruby. I went to a few groomers before I found Dot Dogs but Ruby's cuts were always overpriced, poor quality and the overall atmospheres were not welcoming. It was disheartening feeling like I was not leaving her in the best of hands. But then I found Dot Dogs! When I saw Dot Dogs also offers dog walking I was in a bind and reached out. George returned my call immediately and met Ruby and I the next day. He is so flexible, friendly and amazing with her and I feel beyond comfortable now when I'm at work knowing she's in good hands. He makes each client a priority and it makes a world of difference. When it came time for Ruby's next groom, I walked into the store and immediately could sense the friendly atmosphere. All the treat jars are such a nice touch, it's like a candy shop for pups. Dot Dogs meets all my expectations. Jessie treats all dogs like her own, and that is hard to come by. I've seen her with the many different dogs when I drop off/pick up Ruby and you can tell she loves what she does and beyond that she takes pride in her work and is so knowledgable of all the different breeds and appropriate styles. She suggested keeping Ruby's ears and tail a little longer and it looks so much better that way. She also asks and clarifies what you'd like done before the appointment, and in a short amount of time my fuzzy girl looks like a new gorgeous amazing smelling puppy who can see through her hair again! I found Dot Dogs through some recommendations from friends and Yelp and I am glad we did. I was a little scared of bringing my dog, Flower, to the store on a Saturday afternoon since I thought it would be busy and she is still getting used to being around other dogs. Fortunately, the store wasn't terribly busy and we were greeted immediately. First thing you'll notice is that Dot Dogs is owner-operated and the husband-wife duo genuinely love all dogs and only want the best for them. Flower was greeted with lots of behind-the-ear-rubs and treats. I opted for the do-it-yourself-wash which is extremely easy to operate. There is a wide variety of shampoos available for dogs with different fur types, skin conditions, etc. But how can you go wrong with a shampoo just called "Filthy Dog"?? Flower was a little nervous but it helped that I was able to wash her and she was at ease. A heavy duty apron, towels, leashes/collars are provided. Ladies, definitely bring a hair tie with you otherwise you're bound to mess up your hair (trust me, I know). It took about 10 minutes to wash FloJo. I also had Flower's nails clipped that took about 5 minutes to do and it went very smoothly. The owner, Jess, was so nice and took great care of Flower. For the wash and nail clipping, it was $25! In a clean, inviting, and warm place, you can't beat it! As a nervous pup that ate something she probably shouldn't have the night before, poor poor Flower had a bad accident that virtually ruined the welcome mat in the front door. I was so embarrassed (and so was Flower). The owner put me at ease and knew that we had to get to the vet sooner than later. I really wanted to just drive over to Target nearby and get a new welcome mat for the store. The owner told me that, really it was okay and she was more concerned with the dog than anything else. Will I be back? Definitely. Am I glad I took friends' and Yelp's advice? You betcha. Yes, Dorchester sometimes has a bad rep, but Dot Dogs is so easy to get to off the expressway or if you're coming from Southie. There is street parking available. The area around the shop is rather safe and even without walking with a Rottweiler/Doberman/Pitbull mix, I still felt safe and comfortable. Oh yeah, and upon our exit, FloJo got a styling pink bandana. Watch out Dot Ave! read more

Sometimes business who provide great consistent work don't get the recognition that they really deserve. Since my last review I have gone exclusively to Dot Dogs for my grooming needs. They constantly do great work and are really friendly. My dogs like going there and are treated well while they are there. I can't recommend them enough for the work they do every time I bring my dogs there, and the times that they have made an exception on a busy day to help me out of a messy situation. One time my dog was sprayed by a skunk and on another occasion when there was a poop incident. I have Pomeranians and when one was practically covered in poop they took him in right away even though when i first asked they said they were booked solid that day. They recognize when their clients really need them and they are there for them. read more

Dot Dogs is my favorite thing in Dorchester. Our dog Boss is very anxious and freaks out when it's time for grooming. We were going to a place in Cambridge but after the groomer who we really liked moved away we decided to try some place else and made an appointment with Dog Dogs based on the wonderful reviews we've read. We've been going there for over an year now and we don't even live in Dorchester, but it's totally worth it. What can I say about Dot Dogs? Well, first off , the owners ROCK. Jessie couldn't be nicer. The store is adorable. The staff has been great. I bring my pit bull in there and no one looks at her like she's a vicious monster! In fact, they love her. :) Prices are reasonable on treats and down right cheap on grooming! $10 for my girl to get her nails done. Love it. They have big washing tubs for do it yourself baths! I've taken my sheltie to Dot Dogs at least five times now for grooming. They've usually done a good job with the cut and getting him cleaned up for the most part until the last two grooming sessions we had with Dot Dogs. One time, I picked up my sheltie and he was completely shaved down. My gf and I were a bit shocked at first, as we've heard many times from others that you should never shave a sheltie (it never grows back the same and their double coat keeps them cool in the summer and warm in the winter). Besides, their coat is their signature - it's what makes a sheltie a sheltie. Anyway, we were trying to grow his coat back for the past few months, but recently he needed some cleaning up again. We figured we would give Dot Dogs another chance because we were happy with the grooming before (with the exception of the last visit). So I took him back last week to Dot Dogs and asked for a trim only. The owner said she wanted to shave him again, but I clearly stated that I just wanted a trim for him, no buzzing whatsoever. I told her that if she was only going to shave him again, I would rather just take him back home and have no grooming at all. Mind you, my gf explained that we only wanted a trim when she booked the appointment the week prior. Both of us communicated that pretty clearly. Of course when I picked him up, he was shaved down again. We now have to wait even longer for his coat to grow back and the poor guy basically looks naked. Our friends have commented on how funny he looks and it's just sad. When my gf saw him, she was so frustrated and in tears. I called back and asked for a refund, to which the owner replied "fine" and hung up on me. Two days later and no refund. I called back and she then tells me that she forgot. A week later and still no refund. I call back a few times but no answer, and I leave a vmail. Still waiting to hear back. As far as grooming, I wouldn't recommend Dot Dogs at all. They don't listen to your needs/wants and they don't seem to know how to handle some breeds of dogs. Regardless, I was pretty specific in what I wanted and didn't want, but she chose to ignore everything I asked for. I'm very disappointed, as we wanted to like Dot Dogs and even gave them a second chance after the first shaving, but now we're on the hunt for a new groomer. read more

I am so impressed. We recently rescued a Malti-poo and then found that he had a few fleas (not a full infestation and he had been treated with his monthly preventative but he did have a couple after a trek in the woods). We opted for a flea bath and total groom. Our little guy is flea-free and so handsome! He looks like a totally different dog but in a good way. He was very happy after his day at the salon and so were we! Being a new dog owner we wouldn't trust our pup to just anyone, but we will surely bring him back to Dot Dogs in the future. P read more

What a great addition to the neighborhoods of Dorchester! Am on a budget, but still want my dog looking good, and for $15, I was able to get my beautiful dog looking and smelling great! They have yummy dog treats, (at least my dog says they are), are super friendly and the place is just lovely!!!! This is a review for their dog walking service: I have been using their service sporadically since September and things were mostly ok. Tuesday I am informed by text that George has mislaid the keys to my place and won't be able to feed/ walk Stella that evening (he texted at the time he was supposed to be there). Bummer. I had to leave work early (costing me overtime pay) and still Stella would be in her crate almost ten hours. I didn't get an apology until I said that I would be making other arrangements in the future. This is where it goes off the rails: George texts me the next morning to inform me that he has lost my keys. He offers to pay for a new set of keys. The property owner wants the locks changed ($125) and at first George agrees to pay (though mightily complaining, stopping short of coming out and calling me a paranoid kook). Then this morning he rescinds his offer to pay alternately accusing me of extortion (I guess using this is an excuse to get shiny new locks?!) and blackmail (when i make it clear that there are remedies one can pursue for consumer grievances). He then grudgingly agrees to pay again but not without a few more insults by text. Then low and behold, he magically finds the keys and leaves them in mailbox a few hours ago. Was a grooming customer as well, but no more. All I asked is that this co-owner took responsibility and corrected his error and was met with a barrage of hostility. Not someone I would recommend doing business with. Expecting a nastygram in response to this review... read more

I pretty much have the world's worst dog. It's not her fault -- I'm a terrible owner who finds her buffoonery amusing and completely fails at convincing her that it's not cool to jump on people -- but it's pretty much universally agreed. As a result, I struggle to keep that mutt looking good. Nobody seems to want her! Her lifelong fear of water (I got her as a rescue and I'm starting to believe water somehow was part of her early trauma) doesn't help the situation. Generally when I bring the animal to a groomer and say, "dear god please just cut it short and make her clean," I expect to come and pick up a nice shiny, short-haired beast. Sadly, that's never the case. I don't know if it's her behavior or the fact that people just don't know what to do with the mutt's fur, but she NEVER comes out of groomers looking cleaner or shorter haired. Until Dot Dogs. I said cut it short. They said shave it? I said go for it. They saw her quivering and crying at the thought of getting into the bath, reassured me she's be fine, and sent me on my way. Four somewhat carefree, dogless hours later, I get a call to pick up. I don't even recognize her. Her totally adorable bandana, short summer cut, and cleanly trimmed nails make her almost look like a nice puppy and not the maniac with whom I've been sharing my home for over a year. I was thrilled. She was way calmer than when I left her. The groomer was probably exhausted but still managed enthusiasm and a big smile at pickup. At last, someone who knows how to handle the beast. We've been going here for years, and our pups always look so cute and smell amazing. Tried a few other places in southie and petco before, and this place is the best. It is very clean, and the owners and workers are pleasant. We have a yorkie and its hard to get someone who does his face nicely. I went to dot dogs with my last dog, and now I bring my puppy here and I am beyond impressed. They do an exceptional job! No way I can ever make my little man smell that good. Brought my Bernese Mountain Dog here twice. Initially, I liked that the store was clean and animals seemed well cared for. My usual groomer moved so I needed to find someone else. I told them I wnted a wash and some trimming for my Berner. The owner said I should just shave him. I said no, only some trimming. She finally agreed and the bill was crazy expensive--more than twice what I've paid in the past. I even tipped the groomer, which I probably should not have done seeing as their price was insane. I guess that is just gentrified Dorchester prices. I will say my dog was relaxed and calm when I picked him up. As long as he was happy I was willing to try this place again. Fast forward, I call to make my second appointment. I confirm that this is for my large (125lb) Bernese Mountain Dog. I was given an afternoon appointment. Fast forward, I arrive on the day of my appointment, and when they see that my dog is a Berner they seem shocked. The owner tells me that if she had known he was a Berner she would have scheduled me for a morning appointment as larger dogs with a lot of fur obviously take longer to groom. I'm annoyed at this point because I confirmed his breed when I booked the appointment. She tries to convince me that because my dog is elderly and it is summer, I should just let her shave him. Obviously I know it takes a lot of work to groom a Berners coat but I did not want my dog shaved, and I communicated this to her. It seemed less like she cared about his wellbeing and more of her wanting to make her job easier while still charging me full price for the grooming. I told her no, groom only NO SHAVE. As I'm driving away (about 15 mins after I leave) I get a call from her reiterating that she thought shaving him was the best option. I argue with her-why would you let me drive away knowing that you had no intent to groom my dog? I tell her that we only want him washed and groomed. She tells me that she thinks he has matting on his underbelly (which is absolutely not true as he gets brushed at home!) I'm so frustrated at this point that I tell her she if she encounters any mats on his underbelly, she may shave them off but the rest of his coat is to be trimmed per usual. Later that day I go to pick him up--and his entire body was shaved! I was livid! I didn't even want to pay but did anyways--although no tip this time for obvious reasons. I will never take my dog here ever again! Before I went to write this review I perused through the other reviews of this business. She does have some good reviews, but this is mostly for small dog breeds or short haired dogs that require little to no grooming etc. A lot of her bad reviews are for larger, "fluffy" type breeds. These reviews are similar experiences to mine in that dogs were not groomed but shaved! It seems like a lot of other owners are pressured to shave the dogs versus trim. Apparently this groomer does not listen customers and just does whatever she wants. I also noticed a trend of nasty replies to any negative review--definitely expecting one of those replies to my own review! read more

Honestly I have 2 Cavachons ! is 5 they other 1 1/2 yrs old .They both have been going there for about 1 yr. Neither one are fans of getting groomed , but all the places I've been with them to be groomed this one does an awesome job and they don't hate going there. I brought idihi to Dot Dogs today. She was in need of a cut and nail care. They did an excellent job! Her coat feels amazing and she smells great. The staff was very pleasant and kind! They were running a little behind today. I dropped her off around 9:30 and wasn't able to pick her up until around 4:30. However I was greeted extremely well and I was very happy with my baby's cut. I have an old, often matted Newfoundland, who is now suffering from Cushing disease and loosing hair in patches. Through it all they have always taken care of my dog, and even now it's about his comfort. They are affordable and just miracle workers. We love Dot Dogs! I bring my spooky Greyhound in there to get his nails clipped. His own shadow scares him so I knew this wouldn't be an easy experience! The woman who owns it is so nice with him and give him tons of treats! She is really gentle and he actually lets her cut his nails and doesn't whine or try to get away. In town visiting family and after unexpectedly extending my trip needed to find a groomer. Dot dogs fit me in same day and I was able to bring my pup in right then, talk about flexible. The staff were professional and welcoming from the moment I walked in. My GSD is a rescue and can be shy/nervous but they were so nice and gentle with him. Even offering him treats. I can't for the life of me remember the girls name...Jessie? Which is bothering me because she so deserves a shout out. She was a rockstar and I would trust her with my pup anytime! When called to pick him up she explained that they'd need help with his nails (which was awesome of them to do. Sometimes he doesn't like "strangers" near his paws and I was so impressed that instead of just skipping it they called with a possible solution). I came in and sat with him while she clipped his nails. She was so sweet and gentle with Max, extremely patient. To top our wonderful experience off, it was reasonably priced. We've definitely paid much more for much less. His coat looks great and he smells amazing! I've never met such an amazing groomer. I might just make the 20 hour drive more often just to take my dog here. read more

Wanted to check this place out after reading and ad off a mug at a local cafe. This place is so cute and Jessie was super nice. She came out to chat with us for a bit even though she was in the middle of a grooming. The cost of toys and treats were reasonable and we purchased a few things while we were there. The owners are super sweet but I have to say the haircut my pup received was terrible. There are spots that weren't even cut and the hair on her ears are uneven. Also, I dropped my pup off at 10 and was told she would be ready around 3. I finally called at 4 and was told she would be ready in 20 minutes. I understand that things happen but also know how stressful it can be for a dog to spend many hours in a crate that they are not accustomed to. read more

My boyfriend I just got a Japanese Spitz puppy about a week ago and thank goodness dot dogs is only a block away from our place. First off, whenever I walk in there, the owners are always so gracious and friendly. They play with my pup and talk to me a bit. Also, for a dog store, this place is incredibly clean! The first time I took her in, I think Jesse could see the fear in my eyes and see that I was a first time puppy owner. She gave me a little list of things I could do to help train her and how to best deal with her. As well as the "if you need anything, feel free to call" but she actually meant it. I also take her these every Friday as her special treat to get something yummy. Man, does she love the treats she gets! I got her groomed at Dot Dogs yesterday and she looked ( and smelled) so good! It was very reasonabley priced as my brother and sister in law made me believe it wo uld be at least twice that (they have a corgi and a maltese-bischon mix) Anyways, when we got home, we found a bump on Pinot's side (definitely unrelated to her treatment/grooming experience at Dot Dogs), so we called them up to ask if they had noticed it while grooming her.They hadn't, but again, I think Jesse noticed the fear in my voice as she gave me a list of things that it could be and gave me sound advice (if it doesn't go away within a few days, take her to the vet) but more so, just the level of courtesy and kindness that you usually find from a friend and not a store owner Good job Dot Dogs! you will continue to have our business! read more

Short and sweet...Dot Dogs is awesome. The owners Jessie and George are really friendly and you can tell they truly love every dog that comes in. We brought our very young Weimaraner puppy in for his first DIY bath and Jessie gave it to us on the house! We've been back a few times since, and they have a great selection of cool treats and chew sticks. We'll be back again soon for Knox's bath. And they do nails on a walk in basis which is huge. Jessie and her staff always treat Korben with such care and love when he is there. Korben tends to come in pretty messy and has long hair. The make over every time is wonderful. We have 2 Olde English Bulldogges and nowhere to bathe them in our rental apartment. Luckily, we found Dot Dogs! We can choose to have our dogs bathed and groomed by their expert staff, or wash them ourselves in their self-service tubs! They hook us up with a plastic apron, our choice of shampoo (we love the oatmeal for our dogs' sensitive skin), as well as great towels and chamois cloths to dry them with! The bath tub is set up with hooks for special leashes so we don't have to worry about our dogs slipping or jumping out, and because the tubs are a few feet off the floor, our backs don't ache after bath time anymore! And to top it off, their sweet staff always gives each of our pooches a treat and a bandana as a parting gift! We are so grateful to Dot Dogs for making something that used to be a dreaded chore into a fun time for the whole family! read more
