Bad,. A creole cajun dish with -0- Taste -0- spice, dry. The owner seems nice. Just not worth the $$$ in this difficult economic time.

My family went there tonight and the food was terrible. Undercooked and had no flavor. The service and ambiance were great!

Decided to try a new place for fish fry tonight…read more To be fair it was really busy. However, the service was not very good. After sitting for a bit we got drinks at the bar, and the bartender gave us some menus and took our order. Later this caused some confusion when we had to pay our tab. When it finally arrived, the breaded Walleye (offered twice a month) was quite good. Although we were not provided tartar sauce, a neighboring table kindly loaned us theirs. The fish was served in a basket with waxed paper lining and it was virtually impossible not to get a mouthful of paper while cutting the breaded fish or baked potato. As a result, we both had a little extra 'fiber' with our meal. The rest of the food was OK, but nothing special. While we don't really expect much in terms of 'ambience' from a bar fish fry, it was incredibly noisy (due in part to the pool table in the middle of the dining area), and we also were not expecting to be looking directly into a messy toilet/bathroom during our meal. (Picture of our 'view' is attached) So, overall not great - despite some very tasty fish.

Prices are good and there are daily lunch plus evening food specials. The bar staff is friendly, attentive and good at what they do. The food is really quite good with fresh burger and crinkle cut fries. My favorites. R-Bar is definitely on my list of regular joints to stop at for a quick sandwich and a couple of beers. Cheers!

My wife and I ventured out to Mount Horeb for dinner at Driftless Social on a Saturday night…read morerecently. We had a reservation, which I would recommend, and were seated immediately. The restaurant is fairly small, but cozy. The ambiance is very relaxed and social. It was a bit noisy but a good noisy, not obnoxious noisy; people having good conversations and lots of laughing. Our server greeted us in a timely manner and took our drink order. I ordered an old fashioned, my wife a Hugo spritz. Both were fantastic but just a heads up, the drinks were relatively strong. The menu is relatively small but still enough to choose from and not be disappointed. My wife and I both ordered the 5 oz filet with shrimp. We split a side of green beans. When our food reached our table, we thought that it might not be enough to fill us but we were more than full afterwards and agreed that anything bigger might be too much. The food was excellent, one of the better steaks I've had in a while. The service was good and our server, Sammy, did a real nice job of taking care of us without being overly intrusive. Prices were appropriate for the quality, maybe a little higher than you would expect but still worth it. If you're looking for a high quality, local small town steak experience that isn't a chain, I highly recommend Driftless Social.

They…read morehad a big bakery counter near the door where my parents bought a big flaky pastry that my family decided to call cow pies. They had great manhole lid sized cookies, and many other baked goods. The counter service area had a really neat art-deco line of lights and fixtures. There was a soda jerk who performed all sorts of amazing stunts with glasses and ice cubes. The bathroom was upstairs and the men's room had a giant urinal that was built into the wall with a tongue that stuck out at the bottom. I remember feeling very intimidated by this thing when I was 3 or 4, which is about when we started going there. The last time I visited before the conversion to whatever the f it is now was in 2017. I was hiding tears the whole time I was there. I was so happy to be there again. Naturally, I raced upstairs to check on the child-eating urinal. Sadly, it was boarded over. I bought the closest thing they had to a cowpie and headed out. I was pretty upset when I saw that my beautiful little restaurant had passed away. I will never forget how happy it made me feel.

We decided to try out The Dog House because it was nearby, and we were very pleasantly surprised! The Dog House has very nice outdoor seating in a deck/patio area. They have a good selection of beers, and the service was fast and friendly. But where they really shine is the food (which they prepare in a teeny, tiny little kitchen!). We had the Stuffed Super Tots, which are huge tater tots stuffed with cheese, bacon, and chives, and served with a creamy dipping sauce. They were very crispy and cheesy - will certainly have them again. We also shared a Monster Burger and a side of the Best Fries Ever. The fries were indeed excellent - fresh, hot, and crispy, everything you want in a French fry. The Monster Burger was huge (TWO half-pound patties, with cheese and bacon - plenty big enough for two people!), juicy and delicious. If you're craving comforting pub food in the Mount Horeb area, give The Dog House a try - it's a true hidden gem!
