Great place if you have kids and great prices. For $8 they got an entree , veggies, and fruit. They have a lot of seating areas-inside, balcony, patio out front. We arrived early for breakfast on a Tuesday. The place really filled up. Nice view of the lake. Service was fast. The food was pretty good. The hash browns were really good!! However, the omelette wasn't the best. The scrambled eggs were fine, the pancake didn't have a lot of flavor, and most of the fruit was good. Some of the fruit wasn't ripe so it was hard. We moved back to Madison nearly 14 years ago and over that time have gone to the Green Lantern on at least 5 different occasions. We've even taken other couples there at least three times. I would say that the quality of the food has deteriorated significantly over that time such that, after our Father's Day meal, my wife and I looked at each other and said, "I don't think I would go back there." That's too bad. We need restaurants like the Green Lantern used to be when they captured everything that Wisconsin supper clubs are supposed to be. I will add this: The prices were very reasonable, maybe even low, and perhaps that was on purpose at this point in time, but the gravy was thin, the vegetable medley was very unappealing, the potatoes just were "different" and not necessarily in a good way. The pot roast was decent but not rave-worthy like it is at some other Madison supper clubs. Perhaps controlling input costs have started to affect the quality of the Green Lantern's final product. read more

This was the second time we visited this place. Both time were for drinks only. This time we came at dinner time and there was a wait to get into the restaurant section. It did not seam to be too long of a wait by the turn over of people in the bar seating area. The crowd was mostly older, drinking mixed drinks and waiting to be seated for dinner. The inside was darker but to some much as to need a light to see around. There were several poker machines and games like pool to play in the bar area. I would consider the ambiance to be on the louder side but again we came while it was quite busy. If in the area we may try the food but for now we enjoyed our drinks. read more

I had the hangover burger which has fried egg, hash browns, and cheddar cheese along with their seasoned waffle fries. It absolutely hit the spot along with the summer shandy that was on tap. My wife had the Cobb salad and it was delish as well. The cheese curds and dip were an excellent starter for us. This place is five stars for what it is, first, a supper club, and second, a townie bar. Why? Best salmon I've had in the greater Madison area. I didn't believe it either, but I saw a picture of the blackened salmon salad on Google reviews and took a chance. I ordered the DINNER salmon which has a delicious citrus butter seasoning seared into the crust. It's AMAZING! It's apparently sushi-grade salmon flown in from the coast (according to bartender) and you can order it medium rare because of this. I'm not sure why our little townie bar has this high-grade salmon but it does. And I really shouldn't be telling you about it because I don't ever want to wait for a table at the Greenie but you deserve to know so here we are. I always get the seasoned fries for the side. The plain ones are just sad. The burger is also fantastic and less than $10 with a side. That's probably cheaper than McDonald's for much better food. They have a wonderful breakfast as well. Bring cash for the discount. Avoid the ribs and cheese curds. They could do better on the bar food in general, but the salmon and seasoned fries are so good, the prices so reasonable, they make up for it easily. read more

I would give this place a solid C. Friendly host and salad was actual spring mix and not cheap lettuce. The bartender wasn't able to describe the beers on tap. The grouper stuffed with "crab" was flavorless and had a white, creamy (bearnaise?) sauce that wasn't good at all and ruined the fish. This place is conveniently located right off of the bike path between Madison and McFarland so we biked here with friends for a weeknight dinner. None of us had been here before and we were under that impression that this place sort-of on the lake had outside seating - they do not. Very odd since they play up the fact that they have a huge pier on Lake Waubesa. The building is a couple hundred yards off of the lake and the dining room overlooks the parking lot and then the lake. What a waste! Anyway we got seated in their somewhat dingy dining room (we understand it has actually been upgraded with the removal of the carpeting). Our waitress was the highlight - the young lady was delightful, energetic and a very good waitress. She promptly got in our orders and fulfilled our requests with a smile. She did not seem typical of the rest of the staff from what we observed. One couple ordered some burgers which were fine. My wife got the fish tacos which she deemed to be "solid". I opted for an all appetizer meal with the bang bang shrimp - they were tasty but extremely small (the waitress warned me the portion was small and she was right). I also had the cheese curds which were average. The prices were fair but like a number of places in the area they are now charging a fee to use a credit card.... Overall I do not need to rush back here. read more

A little disappointed in Green Lantern after being served raw fish that was hidden under a bed of crab meat. See attached picture of fish. Since the crab meat was placed directly over the fish, the cook staff knew they had served undercooked fish. The ends were cooked, which is what confused us and the server. Tom, I assume was the manager, apologized profusely once he saw what we were served and said that this is not the standard. A lady from behind the bar asked us to pay our bill and we could get free dessert. Unfortunately, everyone who ate the fish started becoming sick and we had to leave. Tom comp'd the table as we headed to urgent care. We were provided worm tablets and anti-nausea medicine. Aside from the fish incident, our fish being served 1.5 hours after having our order taken; everyone else was served pasta and chicken and enjoyed their meals. They were served 45 minutes after having their order taken. Before our departure, Tom indicated that the cool staff tried to rush our order after getting behind a couple hours. This meant we waited roughly forty five minutes for undercooked/raw fish. Our wait staff was friendly and helpful. I felt bad for her and left a $20 tip to show I had no hard feelings; despite the $50 copay for urgent care. I hadn't been to Green Lantern in 20 years and remembered it being really nice. I'm so glad to give this local restaurant a try! They are operating with limited inside dining, curbside pick up, or go inside for pick up. We ordered for pick up and it was ready in about 20 minutes. The ordering process was simple and the staff member was accommodating to substitutions. Payment for food is at pick up too. The menu offers a variety of entree options! They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I tried the Giddy Up Burger and substituted grilled chicken. The sandwich was alright but the bbq sauce nailed a sweet and tangy taste which I enjoyed. My partner ordered the Walleye sandwich and was thoroughly pleased with the size. He really liked it! We both got seasoned fries and they had a good flavor. If you're looking for decent bar food, give this restaurant a try! We will be back again to try something new. read more

It is rare to find a supper club style place that serves blue gill! It's strange, but I'd prefer blue gill over cod. The crispy crunch is my favorite! We came with a group of four on a Friday night after everything opened back up again. So I called ahead to check about reservations and they don't take them on Friday's, FYI. But we didn't need them. Came at 6:30 and got seated right away. The food is very reasonably price! I was expecting the flavors to not be there since everything was so cheap. The bartenders at Green Lantern yesterday during Badger game were most awful! Never been treated so poorly, rushed to say the least. My husband and I left immediate after our 1 drink; we should've left right away. Place was hardly packed, which is what we don't understand. I inquired about tequila brands, as recent new tequila brands are now available. Basically forced to decide with a vodka cocktail due to bartender rushing us. We will not be returning for a while. Stopped in to meet friends. My first visit to this cute well referenced bar/restaurant. Gorgeous location although it was very cloudy and rainy the day we visited. My friend and I weren't really there to eat just to meet up with family and friends who were there earlier for their morsels and then to carry on with the day. While we were waiting we sat at the bar to have a beverage. While sipping we were considering a nibble. We decided to try the crab cakes. A table we had passed had them and they looked yummy and the description of the appetizer in print was enticing. Let me tell you the extreme let down and surprise as to what it was after we forked into these things. They disintegrated into mush. Not even sure what the binding was that was used to try to hold these sad greasy discs together. It looked like rice but was soft to the point of uncomfortableness. They had an odd flavor , some sort of putrid seasoning, and BARELY ANY CRAB. These "crab cakes " did not hold up to the menu boasting. The red flakes of said " real crab" were pretty non existent and looked like the fake alternative without doubt. They were served on a plate with a sloppily filled plastic tiny cup of pink sauce which tasted of weak horse radish. 10 bucks for this pathetic attempt at what should be savored. Carry out order - food was very good. Pick up was not well handled. Have to pick up at cashier station along with everyone else. Inside dinners lined up next to each other to pay while I stood in doorway trying to pay and pick up order. Finally paid and then they had to go to kitchen for the order. No problem but while waiting off to side noticed bar was full and no masks and even a baby (6 months?) in car seat on a bar stool around adults with no mask. Food is really good, but have to think twice about ordering there again. Note that we have ordered food from different local establishments and have notice same behavior. read more

When this place hits the mark, it's above average and when it misses it stinks. I've done breakfast and dinner here and with mixed results. I've had great omelettes and cold fatty prime rib with delayed drinks. Either way it's middle of the road for price. If this place wasn't as close as it is I can't see a reason I would go back. Ever since moving to Wisconsin, we've been wanting to try the Supper Clubs which Wisconsin is known for. The Green Lantern surpassed my expectations. The location is right on Lake Waubesa. There is a beautiful view out the window and after supper you can stroll down the pier and continue to admire the lake. The interior is divided into a pub area, the room with the window, and an extension below that. Lots of wood and lanterns -- it's cozy. The hostess and especially our waitress were fun and friendly. She seemed to really enjoy her job. The food is what sold us though. We each started w/a half dozen oysters on the half shell. These were shucked, no grit, still had their juice, decent sized and briny flavor. Served with a lemon wedges and a good sized portion of shrimp sauce. This is exactly how I want my oysters and the price was right. There's no salad bar, but I enjoyed my salad which I ordered with blue cheese dressing. Often I'm disappointed with blue-cheese dressing and it just tastes like ranch, but this dressing was great. The blue cheese really shined. I also ordered the rib-eye steak and baked potato. The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, juicy, so delicious. No complaints about the potato nor the bread. Ambiance, service, great food, AND reasonable prices, I highly recommend the Green Lantern! read more

Great view of Lake Waubesa. This a bar/restaurant with many locals who visit frequently. Bartenders and servers are generally long-term employees and are excellent. Drinks are excellent. Good sized portions at reasonable prices. The food is very good breakfast, lunch and dinner. read more

7/16/2021 We went to the Green Lantern for dinner. We put our name on the wait list. They told us 30 minutes. After an hour passed we went up To see how much longer until we got seated. Hostess told us we were next. 15 minutes go by and we checked again only to find out they crossed our name off the list. Finally got seated . Ordered our food and then the waitress told us they were out of baked potatoes. Took us 45 minutes to our food. Not a great experience. read more
