I came in to see what was on the Bev menu as asked by my wife while she held the dogs. The sign said dogs only on the patio which was fine but no apparent direct access to said patio. I was greeted by a very aggressive sales approach at the bar when I just wanted to look at the Bev menu and trend determine if they had something they would like. I know her likes! But instead we had a lot of conversation about dogs in dogs out and bring her in bring her in! He just wouldn't just tell me what varieties of cider (2 it turns out!) that they had and really wanted us to bring the dogs and everyone in so we could then judge how to just get to the Ikaika Bistro food and maybe have a drink? We are here in Langley regular on a Saturday and always put off trying that food. Getting a drink was more interesting to her than I but I was game until this young bartender just sold and manipulated his way into frustrating me. I just went out and put a stop to it and we left. The rest of our trip after that in our neighboring town was just crap and we just left town and went back to the house and made lunch and drinks. I guess we should have not tried anything new and gone to a better place by the water. Most negative reviews here mention problem servers for different reasons. We just usually go to Toby's or Village Pizza and barring any crazy crowd, it's always simple and no drama or sales. The Ikaika bistro folks aren't benefiting from this arrangement in my opinion with this gatekeeper partner and I doubt I'll go there again to try as all they make I don't Is Musubi. If I could have just quietly looked at a menu and figured out the system to eat outside with family and get a Bev we would have stayed probably. My wife and I stopped into Double Bluff while playing in the area. Free street parking can be found. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Double Bluff offers indoor and outdoor seating. A few games are onsite as well to play while slurping on some beer. During our visit my wife slurped on a 12oz Kolsch and I slurped on a 12oz Toil & Trouble IPA for $6.50 each. Double Bluff did not meet my standards of cleanliness. Staff was coarse and unwelcoming. Tonight, Double Bluff Brewery gets a one-star review. Don't get me wrong, this isn't about the beer. Daniel, Zach, & John make some of the best beer you will find anywhere. I've literally been a customer from the 1st day DBLF opened and we typically meet friends for beers & conversation every Friday. Tonight however, was not a good experience. We had just ordered dinner from the Ikaika Bistro Food truck (Outstanding as always btw), I ordered my 2nd beer at about 7:20p, 7:25p I step outside to take a phone call and literally was not let back in to finish my beer. Evidently, they were closing early for a private party. There was a note on the front door that I saw at 7:25p that said they were closing at 7:30p. I parked in the DBLF parking lot and entered through the back door, No sign there. No Last Call, no mention when I ordered my 2nd beer that they would close in 10 minutes. Nothing on the DBLF web page indicating they were closing early. Did I mention I was not happy with DBLF tonight? read more

Friday 1/3/2025, approx. 6:30pm: On a suggestion from my son, I dropped by Double Bluff to have a beer and order some food from the food truck someone has set up in the back. When I walked in, the bartender/server welcomed me as if I was his long lost brother; a very kind young man (I did not catch his name, he was on the short side, full beard, two weeks from his 31st birthday so he said). He was SO friendly and engaging in conversation, referred to me by my first name (I gave him a credit card to open a tab). The place was pretty busy, but he took the time to figure out which beer to order. The food truck (I assume it was a third party business) was awesome. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and cole slaw and it was wonderful. The ambiance was great. Again, a lot of people in there, no loud noises, very relaxing, Friends meeting friends for a cold one or two and some good food. Can't beat it. 5-Stars across the board. My new favorite place on Whidbey Island. I will be back for certain. read more

After a beautiful day of whale watching on Oct 27th, we made our way down Whidbey Island to Langley. It is a beautiful and lovely little town - highly recommend the town, just not this business. We first stopped at Saltwater Fish and Oyster Bar and had an amazing chef's choice oyster platter with a cocktail - highly recommend this place! We had an exquisite view of the sound. We had a vegetarian in our group so we decided we would get a pizza at Village Pizzeria to accommodate everyone. We realized quickly at 6:25 pm that they closed at 7 pm so we decided we would call and get pizza as take out. We then noted that the Double Bluff Brewing company was open until 8 pm so the plan was to take the pizza there to eat and have a beer or two. I called the Double Bluff brewing co to confirm this was allowed at 6:30 pm. The employee confirmed they were open until 8 pm and given that it was Sunday and they did not have a food truck we could bring outside food. We stopped at the Village Pizzeria to get out pizza - they were so gracious when we rolled in at 6:59 pm to pick up the pizza (they close at 7 pm) and even offered us a table, but given they close at 7 pm and the brewery was open until 8 pm we picked up the pizza to head over to Double Bluff Brewing Co. Upon entering the business we were greeted with an abrasive and extreme eye roll. I inquired with the employee again about the hours as the open sign was on and the business appeared open. With another eye roll he stated he was going to close early due to it being slow (I had just talked to him 30 min prior on phone confirming they closed at 8 pm). So I stated okay what time were you thinking of closing? Do we have time for a beer or should we go? He stated he was going to close in 25 min and I confirmed okay so we can have 1 beer. He disgruntledly said yes. We sat down and began stress eating out pizza due to the hostile encounter and our uneasiness if we should even stay. He then barked from the counter for us to come up and order our beer. My friend ordered our beers together at once and tipped him 20% (she's a people pleaser and genuinely nice person. I would not have done that). We finished our beer and pizza by 7:25 pm (as he said he was closing in 25 minutes when we arrived). In a complete flip in personality, he came over and asked if we wanted another beer. We were taken aback by this as the previous encounter had been so painful. We stated no and that we were finished up as he stated he was closing early. Completely confused if we were being gaslit or if he had just had a bad moment earlier. Another member of our group cleaned up our table and consolidated our waste to the pizza box as the employee continued to talk on the phone to someone about Athleta. She inquired to him where he would like her to leave our waste. He again was abrasive with an excess eye roll and told her to take it back to the pizza place (the one that had now been closed for the last 30 min). She said I'm sorry thinking she had just heard him misspoke and he stated it more aggressively. Now being more frustrated than ever by the poor treatment, my friend stated she was not doing that and left our waste in the trash. At this point I had had my fill. My friends had travel across the country to visit the PNW and of all the breweries we have ever visited this was by far the worst experience we have all ever had. I went back in the restaurant and informed the employee of how disgusted I was we the treatment we had received and to learn how to run a business. Langley is a beautiful little town and I would recommend any other establishment to spend your money and time at than this one. Highly recommend Saltwater Fish and Village Pizzeria. read more

This was a very cute spot. My husband and cousin stopped for a beer here, and there was plenty of room for us to join them at their table. It is very small indoors, however it looks like there is some outdoor, covered seating outside around fire pits- adorable! The stout my husband ordered was delicious. Double Bluff Brewing is a cute little brewery located in downtown Langley. It is in the downtown area of Langley and kind of tucked away which gives it a quaint feel. I was here in early Autumn and it was a very pleasing time to come and just relax. The taproom is a little small and the brewery seems to be pretty popular and I was a bit concerned if I could land a seat but luck prevailed and I managed to score a seat and a table which felt like by the skin of my teeth. The service here was good but ti wasn't easy to chat with any of the staff because it was very busy as I said and they had to keep things a moving. At Double Bluff Brewing I got their Anthesian India Red Ale which was enjoyable. I enjoy brews with ingredients of a more experimental nature and felt like this particular beer wasn't quite the fit that I was looking for but it was fine to relax to. I inspected some of their other beer options and didn't quite find much else that would lead to another round so I moved on. With that said it sounds like my attitude to the place is lukewarm but after exploring other breweries on Whidbey Island I think Double Bluff wins out on being the best one to try. read more

We occasionally stop off here for brews. Today, we were served by a not so friendly young bearded bartender. We sat outside in the sun. My daughter was drinking a makimwe ipa. She took two drinks, then complained that it smelled like puke. I tried it, and it definitely smelled off. My wife also agreed. I took it back to swap it out, but the bartender refused to replace it saying IPAs turn in the sun This isn't our first rodeo. Complete hipster pretentious additude! Poor service. The tall, long brown haired guy that works there is doing your business a huge disservice with his attitude. Not sure if that means anything to your company but I can assure you it does for a quite a few people. Been meaning to stop by and check this place out and finally got the chance. We tried a bunch of 5 oz samples. They were all very good! The Brewer himself serves in this tiny place which is cool. He knows everything about the brews of course. Amazing how he makes so many styles in such s small building. (It is kind of hidden off the main street in an alley way but still in the middle of downtown). We got some growlers to go and will be back for sure. Great lil brewery kicking out solid beers! Cute and cozy patio seating with 2, 4 or 6 tops as well as the option to belly up to the bar inside. We came in on a busy Sat but found a seat and my favorite beers were the Happy Monk w/ bergamot and the CC Porter was truly a great Porter. I visited this quaint little brewpub on Saturday to see my friend's photography exhibit. The afternoon was uncharacteristically dry and the place was packed with locals (including dogs and kids) and a few off-season tourists. Although the space is small, the outdoor seating (clustered around a couple of fire pits) provided a nice addition to deal with the overflow. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. The beer was uniformly excellent and there were a wide variety of styles on tap, ranging from a light (Kolsch and White IPA) to dark and robust (Scotch Ale and barrel-aged Wheat Wine). The brewer/owner clearly has a great understanding of both the science and artistic aspects of the craft. I can't wait to come back and try their Imperial Stout (Crazy Ivan). read more

We went to a PNW Goldens meet up on Saturday out on Whideby, and stopped by here after as they're one of the only dog-friendly spots nearby that also lets you bring in your own food. Nice, curated section of beers, and they also offer a couple of ciders from Seattle Cider Co. Friendly staff as well. I will take a negative comment on Yelp with a grain of salt, but the gal who mentioned feeling like she wasn't welcome and more of a problem being there, we felt your pain. While didn't leave, it was clear the man wasn't excited to have us there and made us both uncomfortable with his demeanor and irritable answers to our questions. These guys really know what they're doing! Double Bluff Brewing is in a quaint little cottage in Langley, replete with a gorgeous patio for those fine summer days. We wandered in on a Sunday afternoon, and grabbed two stools at the bar. They had a great tap lineup encompassing several different styles, and the bartender immediately started telling us about the distinct characteristics of each brew. I ended up ordering the Happy Monk (Belgian single with bergamot), and my boyfriend grabbed the CC Porter. The Hapyy Monk was a delightfully refreshing beer, perfect for the warm day that it was! I could easily drink this stuff all summer long, especially since it's only at 3.7% ABV. The porter was as solid as they come, and I really liked it as well. Double Bluff provides you with a very laid-back atmosphere while you enjoy your beer, replete with some 80s' rock music. Beer lovers who find themselves on Whidbey Island should definitely check out this spot if they're anywhere near Langley! read more

I have to split the difference on stars here -- 4 stars for the beer, 2 stars for service and being out of beer. We were staying with a group of friends on Whidbey Island on Oct. 1, 2016 -- about half an hour drive away from Double Bluff Brewing. I told friends that their beer was good and I offered to drive into Langley to get a growler fill. So I drove in on a Saturday evening, drove around a very crowded Langley for another 20 minutes or so to find parking several blocks away. Went to the brewery and asked for a growler of Sticke Alt. The woman behind the counter said they were almost out and were only selling it by the pint, not growlers. I asked for another type and they were out of that also. I told the bartender that I was from out of town, didn't get to Whidbey that often and I'd driven half an hour just to come there. She was decidedly unmoved and just said, "sorry." I thought about asking for six pints, but she appeared to lack a sense of humor. I understand that you're a small operation and that you're out of beer because it's good and you don't want to disappoint customers who come into your place... but the bartender should have made an exception in this case. You lost this customer and another 7 people back at the house looking forward to trying it. read more
