Good company comes with good wine over a fire pit.., not really but it got really cold when we arrived here. That wasn't all, we actually made new friends here with some veterans with their wives. A fun bunch of people huddling over an open fire pit to stay warm. They wine selection here was pretty ok. Though I would've loved to taste more of their rosés, but the selection they served us were mostly reds and a few whites. We ended up ordering a bottle of white ourselves to share, which was cheaper to do since a bottle was cheaper buy than per glass. We didn't get a chance to walk around the vineyard because it started to rain. The vineyard looked really nice. Probably would come back to take pictures here again when I come back to visit. Definitely a try if you enjoy red wine! read more

Adorable vineyard! We stopped by last weekend and were pleasantly surprised. The venue and setting are great. They've got multiple covered seating areas scattered around lovely property, as well as yard games and an indoor barn perfect for small events or gatherings. The owner was extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We enjoyed sampling the wines while hearing about the backstory of the establishment. Highly recommend. read more

Beautiful grounds, great wine, and lots of space to spread out, social distance, and enjoy yourself. The wine is Italian-inspired and all well done with the higher-end ones displaying some real sophistication and complexity. The grounds are well-maintained and feel like you are really getting away from it all even though it is a five minute drive to Freeland. Everything is set up well for a day visit or for an event - once all this COVID stuff is over! We've been here a bunch of times but actually stayed in the vacation rental they have on grounds this time - it was gorgeous! read more

We made a day trip to Whidbey Island and wanted to include a tasting at a vineyard, which would include trying a wine made from locally grown grapes; during our visit we learned that Dancing Fish does not offer any wines from Whidbey-grown grapes, including from their own "vineyard". In any case, Dancing Fish proved to be a very pretty place to sit outside on a sunny day in May and enjoy a tasting with a lunch (cheese, bread) we brought with us. I wouldn't again purchase a bottle of wine here as they seem pricey, but it is a nice venue to have a wine flight tasting. The wines in our tasting were decent; we enjoyed them. At the time of our visit a tasting was $10, which was not discounted toward bottle purchases. Dancing Fish is primarily an events venue, offering a lovely ambiance meriting a 4.0. Their wines are produced by (undisclosed) vineyards around WA state, bottled with the Dancing Fish label, and are apparently available for purchase only from Dancing Fish. (Though I expect they are available elsewhere under the source winery's brand; I was able to determine the producer for one wine and found it marketed in a wine store under that winery's name.) A few short rows of vines make it a "vineyard" and add to the atmosphere: some varietals appropriate to the Puget Sound AVA (eg Pinot Noir, Madeleine Angevine) are represented, though they are not among the wines offered by Dancing Fish. read more

Absolutely gorgeous property and great tasting wines--ended up buying a couple bottles after the tasting. Usually I'm not a big fan of rose but the one here won me over. I came here with 3 friends for a bachelorette weekend on a Sunday and it was wonderful since it wasn't too crowded. We had wine tastings and a few glasses and had exceptional service from Chris. He knew a lot about the wines and when it was near closing time he let us know to not feel pressured to leave and was so friendly about it! We happened to come by when the owners Nancy & Brad were there too, and they were sweet enough to say hi and ask who in the group was getting married, etc. There's a lookout spot at the top of the hill where you can see a full view of the barn/property, so it's an aesthetic photo spot too :) will definitely be coming back for any future weekend getaways! read more

A friend and I visited Dancing Fish on the last day of our Seattle vacation, and it was easily the highlight of the trip. We were wanting something outdoors due to COVID and this was the perfect option. The staff is super knowledgeable and nice, and oh my gosh... the wine. The wine was delicious. We did a tasting flight and ended up grabbing a couple of glasses as well. We visited another winery on the island right before, and Dancing Fish was our favorite of the two. The wine tasted better and there was much more to do. We played some yard games and walked around the beautiful property. I'm pretty bummed I don't live close by because it looks like the PERFECT venue for a special event. TIP: Since we were staying in Seattle, we took the ferry over to the island for the day. If you have to do the same, make sure you get there early because the line can be very long and you don't want to run out of time since the vineyard isn't open late into the evening. read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dancing Fish Vineyards. My husband and I were married here in late July 2023 and it was the most beautiful day. The grounds are expansive including the barn, the grassy area, the patio, the lookout and the upper barn at the top of the property. A major benefit is the ability for guests to circulate comfortably between indoor/outdoor areas as desired (i.e. those with kids or aren't dancers can enjoy lawn games or explore the vineyard). There is a large, dedicated professional kitchen in the barn for catering use. This property also has a large, very well equipped house and garage/storage area only steps from the venue available for rent, which had everything we needed to store supplies, host a family rehearsal dinner for 24, prep flowers and get everything else ready leading up to and on the wedding day. Overall an extremely convenient home base and highly recommended for anyone having a wedding at Dancing Fish. The owners, Erin and Ross were so helpful and supportive throughout the 12+ month planning process. They are very communicative and genuinely invested in making sure you and your vendors have everything needed and importantly are physically present for the entire wedding day to serve as primary venue contacts, help, answer questions, troubleshoot if necessary and work directly with the wedding coordinator to ensure everything goes smoothly. Not to mention they are down-to-earth, friendly, kind people and were very easy to work with in general. The wine here is very good - the Mambo, Rose and Pinot Grigio selected for the wedding were all enjoyed by our guests. When there is not an event on, you can take your wine around the grounds and play yard games to make for an enjoyable and relaxed tasting. We visited Dancing Fish on a perfect spring day. We sat around drinking delicious wine in comfy Adirondacks and felt like we had the place to ourselves. Grounds are lovely, the staff are wonderful and the wines are really great. Loved the syrah and the rose - drank several bottles of rose there and took more home. Highly recommend this as a stop on a sunny day while on the island. Great day and we'll be back! We brought our dog, who was in heaven with all the space to run and relax in. Families were there too - kids loved playing bocce, ladder ball and corn hole. read more

On a recent visit to Whidbey Island, my girlfriend and I dropped in here to taste some wines and enjoy a lovely early summer afternoon. Dancing Fish proved very nice for both, albeit with a few qualifiers. Dancing Fish is located along a scenic, pastoral road just outside of Freeland. The property is lovely...the buildings have barn-like charm (that's a thing, right?) and the outside area has patio seating adjacent to broad, terraced lawns and a small, recently planted vineyard that seems to run up close to the edge of the forested landscape beyond. Dancing Fish does not yet process and bottle its own grapes yet; presently they work with wineries from central and eastern Washington to bottle varieties and blends under their label. The day we were there, they had 7 wines on the tasting list ($10 for a tasting, plus a $10 discount toward 2+ bottles of wine). They also have cheese or charcuterie plates, but we just had wine. We had 2 whites and 5 reds. I quite enjoyed the Sauvignon blanc ($22/bottle) and the Cabarnet Sauvignon ($30/bottle), and ended up buying one of each. The former was very crisp and citrusy; the latter smooth but still strong like a cab ought to be. I found the other wines to be good, but they seemed a bit "young," I suppose--the alcohol was a bit strong in them and I thought they needed to mellow a bit more. It's a really pleasant place to just sit and watch time go by while you sip wine, too. The view on our warm, breezy day was gorgeous, and the air is fresh and clear out here. There are some yard games set up if you want to move around...the day we were there, a father and son were competing at that "cornhole" game where you toss beanbags at a board with a hole in it. Dad was putting a pretty savage beat-down on son. The two servers were very nice but frequently lost track of which wine we were on, and check-out was quite slow, so they could sharpen that up a tad. All in all, a lovely hour spent in a beautiful spot. read more
