People don't know how to cook steaks. Every time I eat steak, I order it MEDIUM WELL. At Double D, I may end up actually getting a medium rare, medium, or even well done. It's totally random! Really annoying. And the wait times are too long to even consider sending it back unless it's so rare it looks like a fresh slab of roadkill. Service really sucks. EVERYONE here is rude and inexperienced. None of the servers pay attention or acknowledge you when you speak to them. The atmosphere is awful, too. It's very dark inside and only really has dim red lights, which cause headaches for myself and several other people I know if we stay too long. Really odd choice of lighting. It's also very loud inside. Not too charming. The menus are so hard to read. My boyfriend is not a native speaker, so it's even harder for him. I actually have to read the menu aloud to him when we go here. And the prices are way too high. Lunchtimes are very fast, but the lunch items are also overpriced for what you get. First time there I had a cajun burger. It was cooked exactly as asked and was perfect. Second time I had the cowboy steak and it was excellent. This place has gone downhill to the point I'll never eat here again. Been coming here for too many years to count. The last few times it's become worse and worse. Now it's officially off of my family's list of places to eat. This time the burger was way over cooked. Our appetizer was late and showed up about 45 seconds before our main meal. The dipping sauce for our hot appetizer was stone cold like it came straight from the refrigerator and was. It edible. The waitress didn't even bring us a to go bowl to put it in, so taking it with us I guess isn't an option there. The Waitress never came to ask how the food was and I was never brought condiments I asked for. The person who dropped the food off stood at our table waiting for absolutely nothing until we took the plates from her and then she ran away before I could ask a question. I'll have to find a new place to recommend to my business visitors and save them the headaches of a sub par "restaurant". Maybe it was Sunday, but it was an hour after churches had been let out. That being said, if one is hungry, go somewhere else. Took forever to get seated, then took longer for a waitress to even come ask if we wanted drinks or an appetizer. A good 15-20 plus minutes for the ordered appetizers to arrive. I hesitate to even give this horrible establishment one star. I am from up north and am appalled at what is considered good service and food around the Leesville area. Not only was the restaurant completely filthy, the wait staff were literally eating as they took other customers orders and in between waiting tables. As they continued to use their bare hands to shovel food into their mouths, of course there was no thought of washing their hands before serving guests their food. This is the first time I have eaten at this steakhouse in 10 years. I ordered the medium rare 10oz sirloin with two sides. I was hoping for delicious homemade mashed potatoes to go with my steak. They served a delicious steak and disgusting instant mashed potatoes. I am familiar with the flavor of the instant mashed potatoes and I am positive it is the instant kind. They were flavorless as were the rolls. The rolls were fluffy but oily and without flavor. I didn't mind the peanuts on the table and the floor and they made a nice appetizer while we waited for our steaks.my husband had the grilled shrimp and steak combo and it was good but once again the instant mashed potatoes ruined the side completely. If you are paying premium steak prices I think they should make some homemade mashed potatoes. Or at least warn us on the menu. They charge extra for loaded mashed or baked potatoes. I sent back one of my orders of mashed "fake" potatoes and they made me steamed veggies which were delicious after I seasoned them. Double D's is one of only a handful of restaurants in Deridder. We decided to give them a try as one of our friends wife said they were good. We had the Three for All app with Fried crawfish tails, boneless wings, and Southwest egg rolls. App was the best part of the meal, crawfish was really good, the others pretty decent. My wife had the Ribs with Okra and house salad. My son had the sirloin with loaded mash and a coke. Steak was cooked decent but nothing to write home about fairly bland, I had the 8oz Filet with loaded mash and broccoli with a beer. Steak was undercooked and bland. Loaded mash on both were there...not much else. My wife did say the okra was really good, and the ribs were ok. Service was pretty standard, no issues as others have reported. Big kicker here is the price, for all above with tip was $120. OUCH! Good God. I haven't been this sick from food poisoning in my entire life (41 years). As I type this, I am sweating and worried about drinking even the smallest quantity of water as I fear that it will send me running to the bathroom immediately as it has all day. I ordered a cheeseburger, sweet potato fries, and a "tumbleweed" (blooming onion wanna be) for dinner last night. Everything tasted alright initially, but as I attempted to sleep I awoke to a nauseous feeling at about midnight. I managed to keep the food down until morning (probably a bad idea, should have just vomited), at which point I made great friends with the porcelain throne. Now, it's almost 24 hours after I ingested this meal, and I'm still feeling the ill-effects. I'm afraid to even think about eating anything else today. It's sad. I've eaten here before, and didn't get sick in this manner. Unfortunately, I won't be trying again. The place seems to be managed and staffed by very young (possibly high school-age) folks. They are nice, but I don't think they have the restaurant's best interest in mind. My buddy at work summed it up the best when I told him about my experience at Double D's: "If they don't care about having clean menus, what do you think their kitchen looks like?". Point well taken. I took myself out and picked Double D and I was so disappointed. Order chicken and baked potato, I got the smallest baked potato I've ever seen and thechickenwas over cooked and dry. Yesterday I took my family out for dinner and we ate at this establishment, not only was it horrible service they got 3/4 of the order wrong after waiting about 30 minutes to sit at are table and another hour for are food I was really disappointed! Try to give this place another try but another disappointment, ordered a filet asked to be cooked medium well got it back very rare then asked for for my baked potato to only have cheese and butter and it came back having chives. The waitress brought back my baked potato and said it would be 20 minutes before another potato will be ready. The waitress took my staek back to cook some more and brought it back without the potato took one bite and the steak was still not cooked right. My husband was almost finished his steak by the time I got muy meal. Whoever it was I talked to I guess the manager all she said that they just opened up yesterday and still didn't offer anything. We escaped to Toledo Bend during Hurricane Isaac and stopped first at the Steakhouse in Leesville, LA nearby for a meal and were very pleased...service and food were excellent and cost reasonable. On the way back home, we stopped in DeRidder at the Double D, not knowing it was the same owner. Because our earlier experience had built our trust, I actually ordered a rare/warm hamburger and extra crispy fries. They came exactly as ordered! Fact: New York Strip steak is supposed to be tender due to the location on the cow. Fact: This one from DD's was tough a Sara Palin book signing. Fact: New York Strip is supposed to be a sizable chunk of beef like Ron Jeremy's claim to fame. Fact: This steak from DD's was as thin as a the storyline from the Twilight Series...1/2 in. at best. Ok so this is the run of the mill Texas roadhouse knockoff. Same deal with the peanuts on the floor, tv's, music etc. The rolls and butter and the menu/prices are almost the same but double d does charge extra for salad. The big difference between the two is the quality of food. Now I like Texas roadhouse for the price and quality -everything is pretty good down to the salads. Ok so back to business- I have been to Double D steak house 2 times now - the first time I ordered a chicken fettuccine alfredo type dish with steamed veggies. The chicken was pretty good seasoned right -not to to dry- in fact pretty tasty, the sauce was OK - kind of tasted like it came out of a jar (i got nothing against jars but you know when you go out to eat you kinda dont want it tasting like it comes out of a jar RIGHT?), and the veggies were way over cooked and had about 1/3 cup of water underneath them and the carrots in the veggies looked "old" and grey. The salad was extra so I skipped it. The second time I went there I ordered the potato soup which was not hot and had like 4 pieces of potato, 1/10th of a baby carrot and 1/50th of a green veggie which could not be identified . Did i mention that it was not hot? Potato soup as far as i know is a soup that you serve HOT. Sorry I like my soups hot if they are supposed to be hot anyways the soupy part was kind of thick and lumpy and curdly. BBBrrr not good and I was hungry so I just ate a lot of peanuts and stole food from my family. Hubby had a burger and french fries and son had pizza. I did have a bite of the burger which was ok just not my thing -he liked it -but at the end of the meal there was mention that the bun was to big so I would call it a case of the where's the beef. The french fries were good and seasoned a little.The pizza was your run of the mill small pizzas that you can get from walmart in bags of 5 for $5. The server was nice and friendly. I'm sure there are other things on the menu that are good but I will not be back to try them. read more
