This is a Japanese sushi restaurant you actually have to ask for chop sticks, wasabi and ginger. I guess since they don't supply a small dish to mix wasabi and soy sauce in, it doesn't really matter. I started off with under cooked (kinda cold) shumai served with very little if any dipping sauce. Taste was almost as good as something in a grocery store frozen food section. Gyoza was next, at least it was cooked however the serving dish has a sauce section that's impossible to dip anything in. They really missed it on proper plating. The star of my meal was a Tiger roll, if you like being overstuffed with rice this would be a good choice. The amount of other ingredients in this roll are fine but, too much rice detracts from the star flavors in the roll. Hopefully if you decide to give it a try there wont be two younger females with their cell phone speakers blasting their conversation to the whole place. I was pretty shocked restaurant staff felt helpless to say something to those rude women. The woman on the other side of their phone was happy dropping F-bombs and other swear words. When I pointed this out to my waitress she just said "Well it's kinda like a baby crying I can't really do anything".. Nonsense! it is her responsibility to ask them to take the phone off speaker so other customers don't have to listen to the filthy mouthed person on the other end. It was my first and certainly LAST time this Japanese guy will eat there.. If you want sushi go eat down the street at a buffet or get some grocery store sushi it would be a lot cheaper and maybe even better... Certainly a less than appetizing experience. read more

This was an amazing experience. I have many food allergens, like soy, sesame, wheat/gluten, and tree nuts. The service was very accommodating. Decided to come here after a BAD experience at Hana. We have vowed to not go back there so we looked into a new sushi spot and decided to give Kyoto's a try. We came for takeout on a Thursday night and there were only 2 groups seated in the dining room. We viewed the menu and decided to try the Hibachi dinner ($19.99), the Deridder roll ($12.99) Edamame appetizer ($5.50) and a side of miso ($2.75). The gentlemen helping us with the order was nice enough but seemed to get confused when I swapped something out. I made a point to re-state my order just in case something got missed. Total for everything came out to about $45 (they don't offer a military discount). After we placed our order, we waited at least 15 minutes or so before our food came out. While we waited we saw several sushi rolls come out for the main dining room and they looked AMAZING! Large servings and really nicely plated. I crossed my fingers that the sushi roll we ordered would taste as good as these rolls looked. After about 20-25 minutes of waiting, we finally received our food. Everything was really tasty. The sushi roll was the highlight of the meal. The edamame was good but they didn't put any salt on it at all. The portion size was a little small than expected for the hibachi dinner but overall it was good as well. We'll definitely come back to try out more of their sushi rolls. read more

This is not a really fancy place but good for DeRidder! The waiter, waitress and chef were all very nice and gave great service. We ate at the sushi bar, in front of the sushi chef. They do have a bar, but they did have to clean it off a little bit looks like they use it for their to go orders a lot. But dinner was wonderful their hot sake was right on time and it went well with the all the items we tried. We tried The hamachi Kama that's a yellowtail cheek, really delicious and we also had the "chief"sashimi salad, the snow crab Naruto and the avocado bomb all of them really good and fresh read more

I enjoyed every single thing I ordered. I went for lunch and this was my first visit so I ordered a bit too much. Seafood Spring Rolls - these were fried I was honestly expecting for a Thai style spring roll, but these were delicious all the same. 2 Roll Combo - first off its 9.99 which is a decent price for two rolls. I got spicy tuna which was the first time I could ever say I have had spicy tuna roll that was spicy. I also got a crunchy roll which was really good. The miso was interesting, not really what I'm use to with miso but a good quick soup. Volcano Roll - huge. Yummy. Worth the money. I cannot wait to return here for a dinner service. This may only apply to the lunch service, but they were not clearing tables very quickly, this doesn't bother me because there's plenty of seating but if you were looking for a booth it could have caused a problem but I'm sure they would have cleared what ever you wanted. read more

We waited an hour and a half after ordering to receive our food and the chicken teriyaki and steak with vegetables came out cold. We got our salad and soup before half of us got our teas. Service was great. Food was awful. I ordered Tempura Soba noodle soup and this questionable egg noodle soup came. I asked what kind of noodle they use. They brought me a package of Yakisoba noodle from Maruchan. (The real Soba is buckwheat noodle). I lost my appetite from that, but I was still a bit hungry so ordered a sushi roll. It was edible. Honestly, I can make better one at home for sure. The strawberry Mochi ice cream looked delicious, but it tasted disgusting. Have you tried once melted ice cream refrozen? Yes, inside Mochi was that texture, and outside was nothing like soft chewy Mochi. I'm pretty sure it's store bought, but they should at least taste to see it's okay to serve. This restaurant has a nice atmosphere. The staff was very attentive and took very good care of us. The food on the other hand was just Ok.

Very good food at a cheap price. They do need better servers but, they tried. We will be back for sure.

I've eaten here a total of three times. The food isn't special or upscale. I highly recommend NOT eating raw sushi at a place like this. The food here was just okay. Except for tonight... it was god awful. I had the same exact Habachi dinner as the week before which was calamari / scallops / shrimp. This week, the food smelled extremely fishy when they served it. The calamari and shrimp tasted EXTREMELY funky. Like really, really old. I ended up spitting it into a napkin, it was just terrible. I legit lost my appetite after the first bite. I can't stomach coming back here because they serve borderline rotten food instead of just throwing it out when it goes bad. I'm afraid I might get food poisoning here. Just thinking about that taste makes me nauseous. I don't trust this place at all. read more
