As a Hilton diamond member, we always look for Hilton first. While this hotel was conveniently located, it seems to be about 30 years out of date! When you walk in, it's like you have walked back to the 80's or 90's. The lobby is dingy although the employees were very nice. The room was almost suite like in size, bed was comfortable enough. It had the standard fridge, coffee maker, blow dryer, etc. However, the shower head is about 6" above the floor of the tub, so I had to duck under it to wash my head (I am bald, so now shampoo). There were many stains on the ceiling in both the shower and room, could use some cleaning and paint. The toilet paper holder and soap dispenser were about to fall out of the wall. The pool area was nice enough, but with a few ball tournaments going on, way too crowded. There is no breakfast included, and the restaurant had a buffet with the same stuff you find in the free breakfasts, but it turned out to be $15 a person. Although as a diamond member, it was included. Overall, would probably stay again due to its location. But, I would go in knowing it wasn't the typical Hilton quality I have grown to expect. read more

DoubleTree in JC is probably in the top three hotels in the area. First, what specific things were lacking...a magnifying mirror and more towels to start. The suite was nice. It was comfortable, the TV swiveled in the bedroom and living area. The microwave, fridge and blow dryer were also nice. Parking was always easy. Larger bottles of products were good. Breakfast buffet was good when it was offered. The bar was ok. The gym and pool looked nice but I was unable to partake. Kyndall at the Front Desk was fantastic!! Always helpful for my wake-up calls. We stayed here because I am a disabled vet and we had an early appointment at the nearby VA hospital. First of all, I wear leg braces and use a walker. Unfortunately, all the ADA rooms were furthest from the elevators. When it came time to take a shower that evening, the shower was on straight hot for 10 minutes without heating up. As such, we had to take luke warm showers. After the shower, I went to call the front desk on the room phone only to find out that the phone was in-operable... What a joke. When I reached the front desk on my cell phone, her response to the lack of hot water was "you're on the fifth floor, you know you're supposed to wait for the water to warm up". No manager was available until the next morning. In the morning, we spoke with a manager named Natalie. She informed us that we had to go through hotels.com to obtain a refund. We did so and according to hotels.com Natalie refused to respond to multiple requests for a refund. This was one of the worst hotel stays we've ever had. It was definitely the worst customer service we've ever received. Please avoid this place read more

Recently we need to stay in Johnson city for my wife's work. The winter weather was bad enough that her traveling from Kingsport to JC was simply too risky. I called and spoke with Alex. He was able to get us a room without any problem. The first night, we had some very noisy guests next door that kept me up. So the next morning, I told Alex. He was nice enough to change our room and gave us one in the corner where it's very quiet. We then had a small issue with the tub faucet, which was repaired quickly. The food is terrific, the property is well maintained and the entire staff seem dedicated to excellent customer service. They all seem to enjoy what they do and it shows. Hotel Call it 3.8 stars I typically stay at the Hilton brand hotels and like the Doubletree group. Being in Johnson City a few times a year gives me the opportunity to stay here. The hotel, as others have noted, is a bit dated. Certainly not run down but definitely in need of a facelift. Rooms are comfortable and spacious. Wifi works well and the heat and hot water function fine - in fact the shower head was very good... (one of my pet peeves is if a hotel shower sucks). Bed was cozy and everything was in order. The location is ok - nothing to look at and well, that is Johnson city to be honest. There are a lot of restaurant options in the area, some chains, some independents and there is a bar / restaurant on site. The onsite restaurant has decent burgers and you get score extra HH points for eating there, but to be honest, the place is just not cozy or inviting - it is very sterile and the bartender was not very engaging when I was there. She was nice enough, but no personality. it was too brightly lit as well in my opinion. Front desk folks were friendly and helpful - so all in all a good place to lay your head if you are in the area and need a decent place to stay. There's a mildly stale, but not-yet-expired charm at this DoubleTree. It's analogous to a friend's attractive mother who still merits a friendly gaze. Her clothes are a bit tattered, but she dresses well -- mostly because her 90's wardrobe came back in style. Her former beauty is still visible beneath a few wrinkles, she makeup's fairly well, and she gives you free cookies and water bottles. She's a nice lady. read more

Walls are very thin and its hard to sleep as a result. The hotel is very dated and needs a big refresh. Customer service was very hit or miss. The cleaning staff seemed friendly, however the desk staff, particularly the night staff were bordering on rude and were very unhelpful. Also, allowing a large motorcycle club to party all night with VERY loud music didn't help. I won't be back, and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Ambivalence...that really describes my general feeling during my recent stay here. Overall it was fine, nothing great but nothing bad. I wanted it to be more but I was glad it wasnt less. Everything was as expected but maybe just a tad bit blah! The cookie was good, the concierge lounge, although a great addition was microscopic in size with a poor food selection. The sports bar was huge and seemed to be a local hangout for lots of different folks...the salad I had here was excellent and the waitress called me "hun" so I liked that. My room had a shitty view, only way to describe it but the bed was comfy and the room was a bit larger than usual. Given the options in the area, I would definitely stay here again if need be. Gorgeous, quality hotel! Due to being in Hilton diamond club, we were given suite a suite. After staying in a Microtel, I burst into laughter upon entering Doubletree's suite. SO Big and fancy, lol. It has a high bar table w 3 seats, plus "living room" and king bed. The friendly & professional front desk loaned us a fan so we slept well in the comfy bed. Water in shower was lovely, and counter had tons of space. Not a thing to complain about. What a pleasure! Coffee only available in lobby in the morning though. Pool area beautiful! Gym up on 5th floor was well-ventilated and with outside views. This was also a pleasure to use. Not sure how the regular rooms are, but the suite was amazing. read more

Had a 9 hour drive from Philly to Johnson city, TN to drop off our son for college! We were so glad to have this hotel as an option! They honored the Milligan college discount which ends up being $79/night plus taxes and fees while reg price is about $129/night. The room was very clean, Crabtree and Evelyn bathroom supplies, and comfy beds. It was quiet so we were able to get some much needed rest! Check in and check out were a breeze. The room service offered was also very fairly priced. Would highly recommend if you are in the area! read more

Location is really good as it is close to many restaurants and shopping. The walls are paper thin. I am up right now as I can hear the people in the room next to us laughing and carrying on at 11:00 pm. When we walked in our room there was a set of contact lense case on the floor, the coffee counter in the room had not been cleaned and had dried up spilled coffee stains that I cleaned up. The wall in the bathroom has a stain that looks like blood. The nice cleaning lady came in and tried to clean it off and it would not clean off. She said it is possible that it is dried dripping paint, but regardless it is gross to look at. The burger bar had good sweet tea and brownie with ice cream dessert. read more

I have stayed at other Hilton Hotels before, but my first time at a DoubleTree was in March. I was staying in Johnson City for about 2 weeks so I needed a lot of space. They only had 2 suites so I booked the Junior suite which had all the amenities I was looking for (a king bed, a sofa bed, a spacious desk and a wet bar as well as a luxury bath). It had a lot of storage too which was awesome! Check in was a breeze and the customary warm cookie they provided was a really nice touch and delicious! They also gave me a Starbucks gift card, a free appetizer at their in house restaurant Burger Bar, and free wi-fi. Pretty sweet. Johnson City is not a big city, but the location was good as It was close to a a mall, restaurants, and grocery stores. I ordered quite a bit of room service from Burger Bar and the food was actually pretty good most of the time and was delivered quickly. They updated all the locks throughout the building to open by scanning your keycard which was pretty cool and made me fee safe. My only real issue with this place was the fact that stink bugs kept getting into my room. I hate bugs and am afraid of them at the same time (I know..get over it right?), so this made me very upset and uncomfortable. I called the staff like 3-5 different times to get them out and they were all so nice about it and made me feel better. Overall this is a comfy hotel with a lovely staff. Once again a 1 star is too much for this Hilton property. Waited 45 minutes while they switched pillows. Put in reservation for no feathers but no one read it. Dirty duvet with brown stains , a used wash cloth over shower curtain rod was left. Tells me housekeeping did not change the curtain and probably did not clean the shower/ tub, and toilet was not clean! I came home with bites - 6 total. I believe they are bed bug bites. Hilton used to be known for quality but this is far from it. Similar conditions when I stayed in Huntsville,AL in April. I had also checked in on the app the night before and selected the room, but that was not the room I was sent to. Be cautious if you choose to stay here. read more

Bow-chicka-mau-mau! This Double-Tree is a tad dated! But the indoor/outdoor pool with connector tunnel under the water has my kids convinced this is the coolest place ever. We just checked in, so haven't yet spent the night here, but the rooms appear perfectly normal, clean and comfortable looking. There is a Burger Bar restaurant and bar here, and we will likely end up there for at least one meal during our three night stay. This location has a lot of shopping and fast food restaurants surrounding it. Oh! And warm cookies upon arrival! If you are Hilton Honors member, the 5th floor, they have the Hiltron Honors guest suite that serves breakfast from 6 until 8:30AM and h'orderves from 5:30 until 7 PM. Let me first say I am definitely one of those people who checkout the reviews on Yelp, TripAdvisor and Google before booking an out of town hotel or choosing to eat at a restaurant. Although I haven't always been the best about writing a review. I was a bit concerned reading some of the recent negative comments about Double Tree on TripAdvisor. My son and I were in town for a three day stay for him to play baseball. We arrived to find, as a number of reviews had indicated, that the hotel is an older hotel. I was very pleased to find that it had been updated. Our room was spacious, clean and very well accommodated. The staff was friendly and professional. The only negative I can comment on is the workout room could have been a little larger and more well equipped but that is true of most of the hotels I have stayed at. The restaurant at the hotel is currently being renovated but it was blocked off from view and I did not hear any construction noise. I have found marketing photos of some hotels to be somewhat deceiving in the past so I am attaching photos of our room. I would not hesitate to stay at the Double Tree again when passing through! read more

I stayed here in 2012 and had a great time -- the room was clean and it had one of the best beds I have ever slept in. So I booked a room here for the drive back from my wedding. However, this time was nowhere near as good. The front door was broken so we had to go through the restaurant with all of our stuff. They really should have given us a heads up about that before we checked in -- I had called twice because we were running late that afternoon. When we got in bed for the night, there was blood and some kind of bug or something black on the sheets right by our faces -- disgusting! (See pic). Would not stay here again. read more

I called hours prior to arrival due to arriving late. The gentleman that answered the phone was not very friendly. When we arrived you could tell this was an older hotel. The woman that checked us in was very friendly and had a good personality. She was very quick at getting us checked in and on our way. The room could have used some updating, the curtains and carpet were pretty bad in my room. There must have been an electrical repair done in the bathroom prior to my arrival. There was a screw, copper wire and plastic shielding on the bathroom counter. I didn't try the restaurant, but the cookies were good at the desk. read more

3.5 stars There doesn't seem to be a lot of hotel options in the area. I am a pretty loyal Hilton member so I decided to stay at the Doubletree. The rate was pretty good and the hotel is in a nice location. There are plenty of dining options in the area that lie outside the realm of fast food, which is critical for a hotel, in my opinion. The hotel is a little dated. Not sure when the last update was but the age shows a bit on this one. One awesome feature is the indoor/outdoor pool. The pool itself has an indoor section, but has a little alleyway to swim from indoors to outdoors. The outdoor pool area was embarrassingly furnished. I counted six chairs and no tables in an area that could easily support four times that number. It looked a little weird for me to be out there using two chairs(one to sit and one to rest clothes and beverages) when the area was rather large. I would certainly suggest bringing in more chars. The room was comfy if a little dated. No major complaints on any front. The breakfast was good the next morning. Mine was free but I wouldn't pay more than $10 for the buffet. Staff seemed friendly. I would stay here again. Edit: I have stayed here several times now and have always enjoyed myself. The hotel is dated and needs a remodel to the extreme. The rooms are quite roomy and almost suite-like due to their size. Each room is also equipped with a fridge for your diabetes medication and coffee makers for your ADD/ADHD. Breakfast in the morning is full fixins and pretty good. There is a restaurant attached that serves awesome burgers and gives you extra HHonors points for dining in house. Location is near most stuff in JC (although the city is kind of divided by a mountain, but that's a different story). If fully updated, no reason it couldn't jump to 5 stars. read more

I stay frequently at Hilton properties, both for business and family travel. This hotel comes up way short of what I've come to expect from Hilton. The facility is old, dated and tired looking. The furniture in the King room is too large for the space so the room is tight and crowded. In addition, when we checked in for a family getaway (3 rooms, multiple nights) the front desk clerk did not smile or greet us. In fact, she seemed annoyed that she had to check us in. We had similar experiences with other staff, who were often on the cell phone and appeared frustrated at being interrupted. Additionally, one of our three rooms had a stale urine smell. It just isn't a typical Hilton experience and we were surprised this hotel is flying under the Hilton banner. read more

Stayed here last night for a college reunion and was highly disappointed. We stayed here once before many years ago and had a great experience. At about 10:45pm, we heard a consistent thumping noise like someone running on the treadmill. We called and reported the noise and about 30 minutes later, it stopped. At 6:45am, same thing. We actually decided to leave early after finding out that the fitness center was directly overtop our room. The beds were not as comfortable as before either and the suite we stayed in needed updating. Will most likely not stay here again. The hotel made it right with us, and did not charge us the second night so I give them credit for that. Poor design. read more

I stayed here several times on business before I moved to Johnson City. In a town of few really good choices for hotels I would say this is a safe and one of the better choices. The price for a DoubleTree is really very good and economical being in the low $100 range. Being part of Hilton and thus I was able to get an upgrade made it even better as many of the rooms are a little outdated for a quality hotel chain like DoubleTree. They said that renovations are on the schedule. The location is perfect .. right in the middle of all the main Roan street attractions. It is walking distance to the mall and the CarMike theaters which was really convenient. I walked to Cafe Lola ( see my review ) which is in the same strip mall as CarMike theaters so dinner and a movie is a great option. There are several other restaurants near as well like Jack's City Grill and Smokey Bones for BBQ. There is an indoor garden style pool which is really cool and a nice difference. There is also an outdoor pool available when weather permits. I had access to Hilton HHonors area with a complimentary drink and some snacks. There is room service but it is fulfilled by the Fanatics Sports bar which I have reviewed separately but I can say the food quality is really not what I would expect for a DoubleTree - you are better advised to walk to the really great local restaurants or order for delivery. I found the hotel desk staff to be extremely helpful!! They even made sure I got my bags and delivered them to the room when they were misplaced by the airline. So why a 3 star rating. Although Doubletree is a great option in Johnson City I also factored in my extensive travel experience and this DoubleTree is for sure only average based on all the I have stayed in. Mostly the rooms which need an upgrade and the restaurant which needs new management is to blame. I hope they correct these shortfalls and I know the reviews will go up. Even with a 3 star review this is a safe and great choice if you are looking to stay in Johnson City!! read more

Highlights - great staff. free breakfast and free appetizers starting at 5:30pm to 8:30pm. The concierge lounge was small but the service provided by the server was awesome. Drinks are available for cash or charge to your room. Domestic beer $3, Import $4, Wine $6 and hard liquor $7. Located walking distance from the only mall in Johnson City (not that big at all...) and the a carmike movie theatre. And by walking distance, its 3 min walk and you are there. Overall, I can tell the building is somewhat old by the carpet and overall infrastructure. Was okay. Would stay again due to the service. Good location although hard to find at first since it's buried in the back behind all the mall stuff. read more

This hotel is like being the tallest short person the room. Not a lot of hotels to choose from in town so we stayed here. I'm a diamond member so a hit a lot of Hilton properties. The good...staff are great, beers are really cold at the burger place, close to lots of restaurants. The bad...rooms need updating, hotel needs updating, rooms need to be cleaned better. I had a straw laying in my floor when I checked in and the bathroom sink area had some sticky stuff on it. I travel enough to just move on and chalk those things up. Fitness room is small so get there early. There is a newer hotel down the road but I'm a Hilton member so I'll stay here again if I'm in the area. Nice office space let me work from hotel with no issues. My only compliant is the front entrance is the only entrance so if parking close to the front isn't available it can be a good walk. We have been to this area many times and stayed here intermittently for years. The service is okay. The building has continued to age with no significant reno. This last time took the cake. Pros: Convenient to mall and movie theater nearby if you need something to do. Sports bar on site. Spacious rooms. Warm cookie given at check in is good. Cons: old carpet and room decor. Plaster that had fallen from ceiling over the room AC/heater. ROACHES in the bathroom-- I killed 4 including in the bathtub which caused me to wash myself and 3 kids in the sink (I know but we REALLY needed a bath!). You just feel dirty and insecure about the prior night of sleep. They took half off the bill and acted like they KNEW there was a significant roach problem. Since then, we have opted for newer hotels. Hilton, you need to put some money into this one! read more

The room is very well designed and stylish. Large TV channel selection. Excellent location right across the street from a shopping mall and adjacent to a movie theater. An attached bar/restaurant with tasty food and cute waitresses (hey, i'm only human.. so sue me). They had no problem checking me in early. Mouthwash in the bathrooms. Good for a DoubleTree, but not the best we have stayed in. We had to wait on our room after arriving at 3:30. The staff was nice and friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. Overall experience was sub-par compared to the average Hilton. We specifically requested an extra duvet for the pullout bed when we booked online. When we arrived to the room there was no extra duvet, so we called and requested one and they said they had run out but could provide extra blankets. Understandable, no big deal. Then we asked about breakfast for the next morning, because we pre-purchased the bed and breakfast package. The front desk informed us that breakfast was over at 10:30am. When we woke we went searching for the breakfast hall, and they informed us that the included breakfast was located up on the 5th floor (in a bedroom - strange?) and ended at 9:30am (contrary to what they had told us the night before). However, the attached restaurant serves breakfast until 10:30am at $12 a person for the buffet. What the heck did we pre-pay for a bed and breakfast package for? To go eat in a small bedroom on the 5th floor? Very confusing and NOT helpful. They did not apologize or try to resolve the mixup. Otherwise... Nice room, comfortable bed, good shower water pressure. I REALLY REALLY enjoy this hotel. My grandmother and I stayed here when I was looking for a place to live and she continues to stay here every time she comes to visit. The beds are amazingly comfortable and rooms have a neat funky decor. There's a small sports bar downstairs that I always have fun at (especially the nights they have kareoke) my grandmother always stays on the 5th floor which has a concierge room that has snacks and drinks available in the mornings and evenings. read more
