Customer service was fair. I arrived earlier than the 4pm check-in time. There was a $25 fee for early arrival. I wasn't given information about my free breakfast package until I asked. The hot food was decent. I also had to ask where the ice was (even floors only). I appreciated the free shuttle to/from the airport. There's a wonderful walking path available right outside the back area.

1of 2 bugs found in our room

We recently stayed at the DoubleTree in Durham and was disappointed with my experience. While the rooms are indeed very spacious--one of the main reasons we chose this hotel--the condition of the property was not desirable. The hotel is noticeably outdated. The wallpaper in several areas of our room was torn and peeling off the walls. The lighting was poor, making the space feel dark and dingy, and the carpet hadn't been cleaned in quite some time--it was almost sticky. To make matters worse, we found two bugs in the living room area. The bathroom was no better. The bathtub jets didn't work, and the toilets loudly struggled to flush after every use. Overall, the spaciousness of the room was overshadowed by the issues with cleanliness and maintenance. I expected more from a DoubleTree and wouldn't recommend staying at this location until some serious updates are made.

My stay here was wonderful. I love that I was able to have a room with the view of the pond. They also have little peddle boats to use for guest. I recommend the walk g path if you're not that brave. The suite was spacious and clean, non-carpet flooring in hotels is a big plus because cleaning cannot be skipped out on. The staff was not as open and attentive as I would have hoped. I did notice them having personal side conversations during check in. The bar food and drink were excellent and worth a second round.

Extremely happy with the hotel. During this time especially, you become very apprehensive about where you are going to stay. I felt really happy about our decision to stay at this hotel on the way to visit family. The hotel was incredibly clean. The protocols taken at the front desk were very minimal contact. Upon checkout, we were able to drop the keys into a basket that would later be disinfected. Sadly, we missed out on those lovely chocolate chip cookies that the hotel offers complimentary in the evenings. As a loyalty member to Hilton, I am very familiar with those cookies. The coffee station in the lobby outside the cafe was a great touch. The sign to use the dispenser with a napkin was great. The staff at the cafe was very personable and kind (we didn't have breakfast here). All the surfaces out suite were very clean. The sinks and tubs were so clean. Toilet, remotes were in plastic bags. The bed was made to perfection. The water pressure in the shower was GREAT. The hotel was very quiet with lots of parking. I was concerned when we arrived (it was after 12am) and the entire lot was filled with cars. We didn't see anyone in the lobby or hallways. We barely even saw anyone in the parking lot. When we arrived late, we had to ring a bell for security to come out. The only disappointment was that the pool is closed but I suppose it's safer this way. The housekeeper across the way was really cleaning the room thoroughly. I had interrupted her because I needed another lotion - she was so kind with a wonderful energy. I will be staying here again!

Service was great upon my arrival in the wee hours of the morning. I had no issues checking into my room. The hotel was quiet. The parking lot was full but I was able to find a space fairly quickly. My room was very clean and comfortable. It was way more than I needed for such a short stay. This hotel offered the best rate for the night of my stay. The location was convenient and all worked well. I dashed out early in the morning without perusing the common areas of the hotel. Check-out was a breeze!

What an absolute cockroach infested dump of a hotel. The unappealing odors throughout the hotel and musty smell to the room was an immediate red flag. There were stains on the bathroom door and on the chair (see pictures attached) but I was hoping I could get away with staying here for just one night. I returned to the room approximately 4 hours later and saw a cockroach in the bathtub. I showed the picture of the cockroach to the front desk and the lady told me she did not know what kind of bug it was (see picture of cockroach in tub attached). She was clearly annoyed that I found a cockroach and her only solution was to put me in a different room. Obviously I wasn't going to stay in another room at a cockroach infested hotel so I left at 3 in the morning to find somewhere else to stay. To get a refund the employee offered zero assistance and said I need to contact the third party booking service on my own. The employee took down my information and said a manager would be in touch but that never happened. It was very frustrating to see an employee of what is supposed to be a halfway decent hotel react so indifferently to a cockroach infestation and the risk that poses to customers and their health/home. It seemed like she may have been used to this kind of complaint. Don't stay here, there are cockroaches in this hotel and the front desk has told me they have not witnessed any cockroaches. Clearly nobody here has actually looked hard enough.

They cut out the window to get in and steal our car

This is not a good choice of hotel. Not only is there no security, there are no cameras and they could care less at the front desk, if anything happens with you. We stayed for 3 nights, to wake up to our car stolen on the last night and they said there was nothing they could do, smh! If you care about ur safety and vehicle, book elsewhere, even if it'll cost a few more dollars! Search for a hotel with secured parking, security, cameras, etc.!

i actually exclusively stay at this hotel, not for the accommodations, but more so for the restaurant (see my previous review on the restaurant). Room service is wonderful and a great plus. having a Hilton Honors level is great. the gym and pool is really wonderful. when it comes to the room and accommodations, i only give it 3 stars only because the bed is old, the AC is so old school, and it really seems tired with a bad need for a refurbish. location is perfect and right next to the highway and down the street from Tri Center where most businesses are.

The purpose of my one night visit was accompanying my partner to the Pearson Professional Center. This hotel was directly across the street, making it convenient. And I thought given the price and location it would provide me a quiet nights rest. Boy was I wrong... The 2 star rating has absolutely nothing to do with the staff who were amazing, more than kind, inviting and professional. In fact, they and the delicious complementary cookies were the highlights. So why 2 stars? At night this place looked and sounded more like a night club. But I'll start at the beginning of my 1 night stay. I was able to check in 30 minutes early thanks to the awesome staff which was a relief after a long drive. Greeted with a large and clean room making first impressions positive. 3:30pm till 6pm things were quiet and peaceful. I was able to nap during this time. Returning just after 10pm I see some young men smoking what appeared to be weed in front of the entrance. No big deal. Who am I to judge? Walking into a busy lobby, looks like a party is about to do down. I'm not a happy camper as I take the elevator to rm 214. I'm directly above the lobby which would prove troublesome later that night. I'm 33 but live like an old man. 8 hours of peaceful, undisturbed slumber is required for optimal health. 11pm the TV is off, phone on don't disturb, and it's lights out. That's when I discover these walls are paper thin. I hear music and conversations next door clearly. The doors are extremely heavy and slam automatically. My location isn't helping as I hear rowdy patrons checking in and going to this 2nd floor party. At this point I'm highly agitated. Thought hotels were for traveling and sleeping, not parties. I've experienced this from Red Roof Inn and Extended Stay. Figured spending a few extra bucks would help me avoid these types of situations. I'm a light sleeper, easily disturbed. So I start getting dressed and plan to speak to the staff to get me a quiet room but my partner says just sleep on the pull out sofa bed in the living room. Now here I am, sleeping on springs wrapped in a thin clothe. Can literally feel each spring jabbing me in the back, hips, and ribs. Now I'm uncomfortable and wearing out my already injured back. Can a veteran get a comfortable, quiet place to sleep on vacation? While the music and conversations from next door are quieter, the party crowd in the hall and lobby, and the constantly slamming doors more pronounced. I was up till 3am...

The room was pleasant and had a nice view over the city towards the east, which gave a nice sunrise when we woke up early. The shower had decent pressure and the towels were fluffy -- something I really value in a hotel. I'm taking off one star because the hotel restaurant was not good. I got the vegetable hash and it was sad. Just a few cut up root vegetables thrown together barely warm and topped with a couple eggs for nearly $20. If you're staying in Durham, definitely don't go to the restaurant in this hotel.

Once the offices of a bank, it feels a little corporate, but not modern-day corporate, more like early/mid-century corporate and I can get into that! You'll be greeting by the staff that will help with valet or luggage and directed to reception up on the second floor. When you get out of the elevator, you may again be doubting that you're in a hotel because there's the museum and depending on what artist is being exhibited, it may feel like you've wandered into an alternate universe of sculpture and paintings. Admittedly, it's a little sterile rather than luxurious or minimalist or maximalist (or whatever vibe a hotel is going for with their lobby). No signature scent. No floral displays. While at first it was a little off-putting, it wasn't a big deal because the museum concept is truly unique. My favorite amenity is the water. Seriously. They give you two refillable bottles and encourage you to use the water dispensers in the lobby and gym. I also appreciate the cozy robes in the room, Malin + Goetz products in large dispensers, cutting down on the small bottle waste that drives me insane. I usually don't do coffee in hotel rooms b/c it's so substandard (I despise Keurig) but here it's Nespresso, which is pretty good. Not a fan of the heating/cooling system in the room. I like to sleep with moving air and the thermostat in my room seemed to be locked. Note to self to always check this when I arrive because I sure as hell don't feel like doing so when it's time to go to bed. The gym is reallllly small and in the basement. I wouldn't look forward to working out down there, but it is what it is. There's one elliptical machine, a couple stationary bikes and treadmills. Cable weights, plenty of free weights and a couple kettlebells. It's just really small and I was grateful that I had it to myself because I need room when I'm doing a strength workout. And those chilled eucalyptus towels are LIFE, almost making up for the tiny windowless gym! I enjoyed my stay here. It might be my favorite of the three hotels that I've stayed in when visiting Durham. I think given the location and amenities, the value is good (when I was booking, it was significantly cheaper than the Marriott where I stayed the last time).

I am not a fan of valet or of paying $30 for parking. There are parking garages nearby if you prefer that. The staff was very friendly and I felt treated very well here as a Titanium member with an early check-in, lounge access and free breakfast. I didn't see any snacks in the lounge this visit. For breakfast, you need to use your key to enter the lounge. Beverages are in the lounge, but you go to the restaurant buffet for the food. It is quieter in the lounge than where the restaurant is located. My room was on the other side of the building this time and I didn't hear the train once. Usually, when I use a free night certificate, I tend to be put in the worst room available. But thankfully, that wasn't the case here, my room had a large window with a lot of natural light. The room had the vinyl plank flooring to look like hardwood and the decor and furniture were up to date. My stay was very comfortable here. Speaking of, I recommend you leave the hotel in search of coffee because my very basic iced espresso that's normally around 6 dollars at a Starbucks was 10 dollars here plus tip. My room was pretty basic, don't expect much in terms of a view even though the windows are large. Decent-sized, comfy beds/linens. No bathrobe in the room (not sure if you can ask for one). I was informed that I'd get access to breakfast/evening refreshments in the lounge but I didn't have time to partake so I can't report on that (nor the gym). While slightly dated in appearance and a little basic overall, I feel the location makes up for all of that. I also got it at a decent rate which helps.

The HVAC unit was extremely loud and cycled on and off all night. There was no clear way to turn it off completely, and it repeatedly woke us up. The refrigerator was older and made a constant ticking/compressor noise. Between the two, restful sleep was nearly impossible. Parking added another layer of frustration. There are very few surface spaces, a very small garage, and guests are charged for parking on top of that. Charging for parking when availability is this limited feels unreasonable. Additionally, the shower was missing body wash upon arrival -- a small detail, but one that speaks to oversight. The building is very long - we were at the far end and it helped us get our steps in! The room we were in was at the end in a corner and was an odd shape - literally no other way to put it. The bedroom was good size, the couch room was just a little small. We have three little dudes sleeping in there and they did just fine. I just required a little feng shui! The bathroom had a random fifth wall that the toilet sat on. Not a big deal, just different than we've seen elsewhere. Our room was right over the parking garage, which was also very awkwardly shaped. There's a spot at the far end that you need to back into as we found it impossible to three point into it.
