My stay was amazing I would love to come back I would 10/10 recommend to my family the staff was super kind and I slept comfortably every single night

This hotel is just wonderful. Usually we have problems finding pet friendly hotels when we are on the road (they say pet friendly online but then say no pets once we actually get there - so annoying!). So we were so happy to find this hotel last night. The staff was wonderful, the room was clean and very comfortable, and the hot breakfast hit the spot. It's in a great location right off of I85 and there is a good restaurant right across the street so it was very convenient. We will definitely be staying here again - I have already bookmarked it for next year.

Malcolm the Employee who claimed he was "scared" and threatened and called police ...does this look like a scared person or an aggressor?

Late night July 13 rolling into July 14th made a reservation for 2 rooms on the Hilton Honors App. We have been diamond members for a couple years and needed a place to stay as we had a uhaul and our 2 children and were getting tired of driving. My wife and I tried to call multiple times to speak with someone at the front desk to ensure than we were indeed arriving but no one would answer the phone even though we called 5 times. Called the corporate office (hilton reservation line) who also tried to call and could not get through. No one would answer at the hotel. Arrived at the front desk no one was anywhere to be found at about 1145 PM. Waited 10 minutes and then eventually knocked on the door to the office that was behind the counter. An employee who later identified himself as "MALCOLM" came from out of the office in a rage and reported that no one from the corporate office called him and accused me and my wife of "exaggerating" and he even was annoyed that the reservations were made on the Hilton honors application and reported "well you just made these reservations i dont know if I can honor them." His body language was rude, he was curt, and dismissive. I explained to him my family and I were very tired driving from Maryland and that we had a reservation and we wanted to check in but did not want to have to deal with his bad attitude. My wife who texted me from the parking lot encouraged me to start to record his behavior to file a complaint and he immediately started to say "oh is that a threat" and he stormed towards the door and demanded that we leave and that he was going to call the police. I encouraged him to call the police and was shocked at his playing the victim and even calling the county police to justify his rude behaviors. 3 officers arrived while me, my wife, and my 2 young children sat in the car completely confused and baffled at how this person escalated such a simple incident into a fabrication of a threat, calling the police and overutilizing County resources inappropriately, and even identifying himself as a (general) manager so that the police would remove my wife myself and my 2 young children from the premises in the middle of the night because he was called out for his rude behavior and poor service. He was the only hotel employee we saw there so it was then his word against mine. Thankful the Durham County police were very professional and eventually we left to go to another hotel down the road. NEVER NEVER AGAIN, Avoid this place at all costs. ALSO IT IS IN A VERY HIGH CRIME AREA ACCORDING TO POLICE. If possible keep driving until you find somewhere you and your family will be treated with respect in a safe environment.

I am very impressed with this Hampton property. I was upgraded to a suite that was super comfortable and very nice. The room was very clean, smelled fresh (see below) and had plenty of space with a large work desk area, big vanity area and a very comfortable king bed. The only issue was the rather small shower with the handle right in the spot where I stood under the water. A little annoying. Wifi went completely useless after 9:00 PM, even on the "premium" channel. I should mention that the first room I was assigned was one of their former smoking rooms. Either that, or the guest prior had gone through a few packs of cancer sticks in the room. Just opening the door and sticking my head into the room was an overwhelming smell of smoked cigarettes. I was immediately offered a replacement room with no question. The new room was perfect.

You can't go wrong when you get a great night's sleep and then an excellent breakfast the next morning. This was indeed my experience. I didn't know breakfast would be served but boy oh boy was I glad that it was! They served eggs, sausage, waffles (make it yourself), cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit, bread, and muffins. This really gave me a great start to my day. Also, I was able to sleep soundly and comfortably. The pillows could use an upgrade but otherwise, my stay was delightful.

If you are looking for a NICE place to stay but are trying to avoid the ridiculously high rates that encapsulate Durham, this is a good choice. Check in always with triple A or AARP if you have it. The Inn is right off of 85, and is 7 to 10 minutes from Duke University and Duke Hospital. They have a shuttle bus going to the hospital if needed. Very convenient. Kick Back Jacks is within walking distance if you want some quick food and drink, and then all other dining experiences are just 15 minutes or so away. The Hampton Inn itself was very clean. Comfy beds. Nice shower. Staff was pleasant. They had a gym, but only the treadmill and the elliptical worked. Bikes did not. That is something they need to fix, as I think all gym equipment at a Hampton should be working. There were also weights and a flat bench. Can't really break that. Haha! Pool looked clean, I saw a family having fun in it but pools aren't really my thing so I can't attest to it's cleanliness! ha! Continental breakfast was good. Hot eggs, omelettes with some peppers in it, bacon, toast/bagels, yogurt, waffle machine, juice, and of course coffee. The coffee was pretty good here I have to say. I think I downed about 3 cups in the morning. ha! The only issues I had was the room phone was not working. It had major static every time I tried to call the front desk and when a woman came up to fix it, well it wasn't fixed. Also, I could not connect to their wifi with the password they gave me, so I eventually had to walk down to the front desk (due to my broken phone) and have someone help me connect. After a long drive that is a little annoying, but the problem was fixed nevertheless. Overall, very nice stay. Clean, comfy, hot breakfast, pleasant staff. I will definitely stay here again since I'm in the Durham area often.

The room was pleasant and had a nice view over the city towards the east, which gave a nice sunrise when we woke up early. The shower had decent pressure and the towels were fluffy -- something I really value in a hotel. I'm taking off one star because the hotel restaurant was not good. I got the vegetable hash and it was sad. Just a few cut up root vegetables thrown together barely warm and topped with a couple eggs for nearly $20. If you're staying in Durham, definitely don't go to the restaurant in this hotel.

Once the offices of a bank, it feels a little corporate, but not modern-day corporate, more like early/mid-century corporate and I can get into that! You'll be greeting by the staff that will help with valet or luggage and directed to reception up on the second floor. When you get out of the elevator, you may again be doubting that you're in a hotel because there's the museum and depending on what artist is being exhibited, it may feel like you've wandered into an alternate universe of sculpture and paintings. Admittedly, it's a little sterile rather than luxurious or minimalist or maximalist (or whatever vibe a hotel is going for with their lobby). No signature scent. No floral displays. While at first it was a little off-putting, it wasn't a big deal because the museum concept is truly unique. My favorite amenity is the water. Seriously. They give you two refillable bottles and encourage you to use the water dispensers in the lobby and gym. I also appreciate the cozy robes in the room, Malin + Goetz products in large dispensers, cutting down on the small bottle waste that drives me insane. I usually don't do coffee in hotel rooms b/c it's so substandard (I despise Keurig) but here it's Nespresso, which is pretty good. Not a fan of the heating/cooling system in the room. I like to sleep with moving air and the thermostat in my room seemed to be locked. Note to self to always check this when I arrive because I sure as hell don't feel like doing so when it's time to go to bed. The gym is reallllly small and in the basement. I wouldn't look forward to working out down there, but it is what it is. There's one elliptical machine, a couple stationary bikes and treadmills. Cable weights, plenty of free weights and a couple kettlebells. It's just really small and I was grateful that I had it to myself because I need room when I'm doing a strength workout. And those chilled eucalyptus towels are LIFE, almost making up for the tiny windowless gym! I enjoyed my stay here. It might be my favorite of the three hotels that I've stayed in when visiting Durham. I think given the location and amenities, the value is good (when I was booking, it was significantly cheaper than the Marriott where I stayed the last time).

The Durham Convention Center is attached and the Carolina Theare is next to it. DPAC was about a 10-minute walk if that and included waiting for the traffic signals. Valet parking is $30 a night, so I decided to find a place on the street again. So I got street parking right near the hotel for free as it was the weekend. I am not a fan of valet or of paying $30 for parking. There are parking garages nearby if you prefer that. The staff was very friendly and I felt treated very well here as a Titanium member with an early check-in, lounge access and free breakfast. I didn't see any snacks in the lounge this visit. For breakfast, you need to use your key to enter the lounge. Beverages are in the lounge, but you go to the restaurant buffet for the food. It is quieter in the lounge than where the restaurant is located. My room was on the other side of the building this time and I didn't hear the train once. Usually, when I use a free night certificate, I tend to be put in the worst room available. But thankfully, that wasn't the case here, my room had a large window with a lot of natural light. The room had the vinyl plank flooring to look like hardwood and the decor and furniture were up to date. My stay was very comfortable here. This is one of the nicer hotels I've stayed and look forward to my next visit. I can see coming here for a staycation.

The lobby is large with a bar that offers up a (very limited and price-gouging) Starbucks menu, with plenty of places to sit even if you're not ordering anything. Speaking of, I recommend you leave the hotel in search of coffee because my very basic iced espresso that's normally around 6 dollars at a Starbucks was 10 dollars here plus tip. My room was pretty basic, don't expect much in terms of a view even though the windows are large. Decent-sized, comfy beds/linens. No bathrobe in the room (not sure if you can ask for one). I was informed that I'd get access to breakfast/evening refreshments in the lounge but I didn't have time to partake so I can't report on that (nor the gym). While slightly dated in appearance and a little basic overall, I feel the location makes up for all of that. I also got it at a decent rate which helps.

The lobby however is renovated and pretty nice looking. Walking into the lobby is a stark contrast from walking out to and into your room! They did not have breakfast available for our entire stay. They charge $1 for drip coffee "if you bring your own mug"! That had me laughing out loud. They didn't take the destination charges off our bill since we are globalists. The best feature of this property is the location. It's right in downtown Durham which is super cute! The positives: * Convenient location, especially for Duke and medical visits * Spacious room with modern décor * Extra-large bathroom and generous vanity -- easily the best feature * Breakfast area was spacious and pleasant (food was standard Residence Inn fare) The problems: Sleep quality is a basic hotel expectation, and this property did not deliver. The HVAC unit was extremely loud and cycled on and off all night. There was no clear way to turn it off completely, and it repeatedly woke us up. The refrigerator was older and made a constant ticking/compressor noise. Between the two, restful sleep was nearly impossible. Parking added another layer of frustration. There are very few surface spaces, a very small garage, and guests are charged for parking on top of that. Charging for parking when availability is this limited feels unreasonable. Additionally, the shower was missing body wash upon arrival -- a small detail, but one that speaks to oversight. We reported the HVAC noise and missing body wash to Tiffany and a woman who appeared to be a manager (Scott). While both were polite, no Bonvoy points or other acknowledgment of the inconvenience were offered. The building is very long - we were at the far end and it helped us get our steps in! The room we were in was at the end in a corner and was an odd shape - literally no other way to put it. The bedroom was good size, the couch room was just a little small. We have three little dudes sleeping in there and they did just fine. I just required a little feng shui! The bathroom had a random fifth wall that the toilet sat on. Not a big deal, just different than we've seen elsewhere. Our room was right over the parking garage, which was also very awkwardly shaped. There's a spot at the far end that you need to back into as we found it impossible to three point into it. Again, not a show stopper, but good to know ahead of time. The overflow lot across the street was much more straightforward. There's nice sitting space, a lively bar and a good medium sized workout area. The breakfast was solid, the market delightful, the staff lovely and the grounds overall very nice.
