The Durham Marriott City Center hotel is in Downtown Durham. Its location puts it within walking distance of many attractions, restaurants and shops. The Durham Convention Center is attached and the Carolina Theare is next to it. DPAC was about a 10-minute walk if that and included waiting for the traffic signals. Valet parking is $30 a night, so I decided to find a place on the street again. So I got street parking right near the hotel for free as it was the weekend. I am not a fan of valet or of paying $30 for parking. There are parking garages nearby if you prefer that. The staff was very friendly and I felt treated very well here as a Titanium member with an early check-in, lounge access and free breakfast. I didn't see any snacks in the lounge this visit. For breakfast, you need to use your key to enter the lounge. Beverages are in the lounge, but you go to the restaurant buffet for the food. It is quieter in the lounge than where the restaurant is located. My room was on the other side of the building this time and I didn't hear the train once. Usually, when I use a free night certificate, I tend to be put in the worst room available. But thankfully, that wasn't the case here, my room had a large window with a lot of natural light. The room had the vinyl plank flooring to look like hardwood and the decor and furniture were up to date. My stay was very comfortable here. This is one of the nicer hotels I've stayed and look forward to my next visit. I can see coming here for a staycation. read more

A solid Marriott experience, with a location in the heart of downtown Durham, walking distance to so many great cafés, bars, restaurants and the American Tobacco Campus. The lobby is large with a bar that offers up a (very limited and price-gouging) Starbucks menu, with plenty of places to sit even if you're not ordering anything. Speaking of, I recommend you leave the hotel in search of coffee because my very basic iced espresso that's normally around 6 dollars at a Starbucks was 10 dollars here plus tip. My room was pretty basic, don't expect much in terms of a view even though the windows are large. Decent-sized, comfy beds/linens. No bathrobe in the room (not sure if you can ask for one). I was informed that I'd get access to breakfast/evening refreshments in the lounge but I didn't have time to partake so I can't report on that (nor the gym). While slightly dated in appearance and a little basic overall, I feel the location makes up for all of that. I also got it at a decent rate which helps. read more

This attachment to the Durham Conference center does things well. The bar/sitting area has been cordoned off with a low draped station wall around three sides, which keeps it from being a resting place for anyone passing through. Now it's more intentional, and, therefore, less crowded. As per habit, I sat at the bar, but it's still a nice place to kick back with a friend for drinks in breaks of the games we're playing. Also, the food options are better for just a bit more than what's provided in the convention center itself. This time, I had the Avocado Club, a BLT/Club on white toast with an included "trimming" (side). I opted for Tater Tots, and they were excellent. The sandwich itself was stellar - I could barely get my mouth open wide enough for the first bite! The ingredients were very fresh and generous. The spicy herb ranch dipping sauce for the tots was a nice pink - chipotle hot sauce, maybe? - and supplied in a nice little ramekin. I couldn't finish the whole thing, and a nice take-away was provided. The drink I chose was their Spicy Margarita. The menu states "Mezcal, fresh jalapeños, and orange liquor." There's lime juice/sour mix in there too, but it wasn't mentioned. It arrived quickly, and nicely garnished with a lime quarter. Didn't taste particularly spicy, and no one puts enough liquor in their drinks anymore. But the smoky mezcal was a nice change from a regular marg, so I was happy. My earlier review remarked on the little niceties of the bar like the purse hangers and power outlets, and that hasn't changed. They have increased the sound system volume, or at least the speaker placement. It's a fuller sound than in years past, but doesn't seem to make the lobby overly loud. Adult Contemporary music - thankfully free from rap and disco. (God, I'm such a Boomer!) The service is attentive and pleasant. Someone came by about five minutes before the kitchen closed to make sure I didn't need a dessert or anything. Not pushy or irritating, just a friendly heads-up. Overall a great place to have a space to have a nice meal during a long evening. read more

It's been a while since we've stayed here, largely because this downtown Marriott is usually more expensive than the one around the corner, but this time it was not so we enjoyed a Saturday night stay. Easy walking distance to DPAC. Parking is Valet only and $25 per night. There is a very small area to drop off your car. Valet guys were very quick and very nice. Front Desk Gals were also terrific. Friendly check-in, check-out, one even helped us get Service for breakfast. Our room was clean and quite comfortable. Wasn't a fan of the clunky sliding door to the bathroom, but not a big deal. Love that they have a noon check-out time and that breakfast is served until 11. Breakfast is a small buffet that's $19.99. While it was okay, I wouldn't recommend it unless it comes with the room, which is the only reason we had it. Scrambled eggs, french toast, really good bacon, not-so-good sausage, fruit, oatmeal, bagels & croissants. It is served directly in the lobby, so folks are utilizing the lobby for everything lobbies are for right around you. read more

This is a really nice hotel. However, the bartender Taylor was HORRIBLE!! I went to the bar and he ignored me the entire time. I went to the bar while he was making drinks for an elderly white couple. He makes their drinks and then goes and sits down at the register. I say excuse me and he looks me in the face and says, oh I'm closed. I've been sitting there and you ignored me!!!! It was a racist move. Then the gentleman that was with our group went over and spoke to him and he decided to make the drinks. I would NEVER go to that bar with him bartending! It was a racist move!!! read more

The only thing going for this hotel is the location. Aside from that, I found it extremely overpriced for the quality and service. The lobby is updated but the rooms are not. TBH, I felt like I was staying at a Holiday Inn Express that had been neglected. There were never enough towels and the towels that I did have were stained. Ew. I also was without hot water one morning and had to take a cold shower. When I requested a different room the hotel told me they would have one later that morning, but I let them know that I needed to head to work and would not be able to move until later that evening. Instead of offering to move my luggage to accommodate, I received repeated phone calls (but there was never a message left) while I was in meetings with my company's CEO. Those repeated calls were followed up with a snarky message through the Bonvoy app stating "As you know, the hotel is sold out and we are holding your room to accommodate." Accommodate the fact that my room had no hot water? Seriously? And how the heck would I know that the hotel was sold out. Not my problem that the hotel was over sold. Overall, not the experience I expect from a Marriott hotel. Unless you're really sold on the location, try the AC or a newer hotel instead. read more

The hotel is nice enough but my god the gym is unbecoming of a Marriott hotel.. extremely tiny with a rack of dumbbells to 50 lbs and one bench for whole hotel. I walked in this morning and there were 5 people crowded around the rack. The hotel has no relationship with any of the downtown fitness centers and if you're not a member of the YMCA you can only get a free trial for 3 days so if you're return guest here you're forced into the tiny box of "gym" they have.. really unacceptable and they need to put more effort into a better gym or develop a relationship with a local gym so people can get a decent workout and not be crowded when more than 2 people step into the room. read more

Although we live nearby and have stayed in other local boutique hotels for staycations, we had never stayed here until we won a gift certificate for one free night. We asked for a particular Friday that we had nothing going on and they accommodated us even though the convention center attached to the hotel was hosting a big documentary film festival. We checked in, got a room on the ninth floor, and checked out the surroundings. Our voucher also gave us access to the M Lounge, so that was nice to get some snacks and drinks, and complementary breakfast the next morning. The view from our floor was cool and our sleep quality was better than I thought it would be with the hotel so crowded. Location is right in downtown Durham and convenient to plenty of restaurants, bars and performing arts venues. The only downside was that during our stay, only one of the elevators was working. Also, when I asked the front desk to make change so I could leave a tip for the cleaning staff, they said they weren't able to make change at that time, which I thought was a little odd. read more

This was my first time in Raleigh/Durham. The Marriott was nice, it had a lot of variety seatings everywhere. Couches, shakes, benches, tables, counters. The room was clean and comfortable. This was also my second time being at a Marriott hotel with an M Club. The breakfast and evening snacks were plentiful and delicious in my opinion. I love that we could go in anytime to get water, soda, juices, and teas. The rice crackers mix and M&M's are my favorite out of all the snacks. When I went to the M club for evening snacks, Sybil was super nice and told me that she brought new dishes out in case I wanted to try or was still hungry. I appreciated that because it's hard to come by employees who goes out of their way to tell people there's new food. We had a little humble chat and I'm really appreciate of her. Marriott is very lucky to have her. I didn't have long interactions with the front desk staff but they seemed nice. read more

Nice hotel. I stayed here for a conference at the convention center (adjacent). It was nice and I wouldn't have a problem with staying here again, although there are other options within a block. Pros: Incredibly friendly staff Huge room, huge bed, huge tv with Netflix Nice bathroom Great view from my room Great location near very good food The lobby was nice to take a break from conferencing Cons: Regular size bathtub, nothing special Ice machine on my floor was broken for my whole stay The keycards to operate the elevator was moderately annoying I arrived after a rainstorm. There was a fan in the hall outside my room for a few days, and my room was very humid during my entire stay; there was even a staggering amount of condensation on the windowsill. There's is a parking lot across the street that's free on the weekends. Due to the the pandemic room cleaning is not available, but you can ask for towels. Overall, great location for the price. I am rating the experience and the personnel...especially the assistant front office Mgr. CHRISTOPHER (who rescued my experience at check-in, so it didn't become the exact opposite of what i had BEGGED for for a month AND the night before and which they had in their notes...but more about that later). And the GM Alex who, when their computer failed to do a simple screen shot used HIS OWN cell phone to grab and text me the images I needed. They were terrific! As was EVERY EMPLOYEE in addition to Christopher and Alex. The Valets, Housekeeping, every lobby interaction. The roominess and ease of finding quiet spaces in the large comfortable common areas. HOUSEKEEPING WERE so considerate of the way I left things each day and also never disturbed the small altar space I always create to chant at. The location is amazing. Plus you can go out the back and be diagonally across from the historic Carolina Theatre which has its roots in the civil rights movement and is now ALSO a glam movie theatre. OKAY...now the criticisms (since they never sent me a survey I'm afraid it is ALL going here). -I asked over a month before for a room high up and far from the elevator. It was part of a block but, as an immediate family member, I knew that kind of room was part of their block. AND I called the day before to make sure. At check-in i was they (smilingly!) told my room WAS NEXT TO the elevators (it was feeling like an SNL skit?) although they said they did see ALL the notes. By that time I was fortunate that Christopher evidently started his shift, and immediately began doing computer magic! Et voila! IT WAS PERFECT. - I am 5'4" with long arms. if you are any shorter you will be doing a pilates stretch to reach the toilet paper from the toilet. I pretty much had to sweep almost 2 feet or paper in order to get the paper near enough TO myself to tear it. (yeah that is a lot of wasted paper. But I'm pretty sure no ordinary females were part of the planning process.) - The restaurant has very limited hours. Plan on going out in the middle of the day. And be prepared to access the menu ONLY by scanning the barcode in the room. (also, breakfast -- ALL FOOD -- ends at 11am (until dinner). They don't note that on the breakfast menu so my 8AM was their 11AM and although I asked if I could just get coffee and a pastry...nothing was possible (and it was only 11:15). BUT THE FOOD PLACES REALLLLLLY CLOSE BY ARE GREAT, CHARMING, EASY. But a great location. And ultimately a fabulous experience. AND THE BEDDING. I am dreaming about the bedding. and MAYBE THINKING ABOUT purchasing some? Oh, I may be wrong about this but my friend seemed to notice that there were rooms that seemed to be for the hearing and visually impaired. And she wondered - if that was so - why those rooms were far away from the elevators rather than NEXT TO THEM instead. But because the overall experience was terrific i gave all the stars. Visited Durham, North Carolina for a cousin's wedding. At a time when JOY should be the focus, I and my guest was faced with theft. Initially, I was hesitant to use the hotel's valet parking services, so the first night I parked on the street. My guest, who arrived later, felt that the service was safe considering the hotel brand. Therefore, decided to use the service during the entire stay. I was convinced to use the service too during the second day of our visit. However, the morning of our last day, my guest requested their car which arrived with evidence of theft/vandalism. This issue is still being addressed but I want people to remain cognizant and safe. We were told the lot is gated and equipped with cameras. Learned that the area isn't really gated - hoping the video footage, if it exist, shows the needed details of this crime. Durham City is growing fast and with that requires the city's officials and businesses to incorporate measures that will help to protect those who are pouring into the city's tourism efforts - residents and residents. read more

I thought this was a great hotel for a few reasons: *Location - right in the heart of downtown. Tons of great food options nearby. *Service - front desk staff was consistently friendly and helpful. *Cleanliness - clean rooms and common areas! *Quiet - I was there on the 4th of July weekend, yet my room was still quiet and peaceful. *Amenities - I didn't really use them, but the gym looked nice. What I would I improve? Just a few minor things: *Bathrooms had sliding transparent door. I don't know why they renovated the rooms this way - but I'd prefer normal doors that close and lock. *Door tags (privacy tag you put on door knob) - these fall off so easily. Certainly there must be better options for this. As for parking - I did the valet for $18/night the first night, but after Friday there was plenty of free overnight street parking. read more

I always stay at this hotel when in Durham for business. Even if it wasn't company approved, the location and value are hard to beat. They have clean rooms, a serviceable gym and business center, and a good restaurant on the premises for breakfast or dinner if you are too lazy to walk 5 minutes to sample many of the excellent eating options Durham has to offer. My primary beef with this facility is that it doesn't display the hustle and attention to detail that today's business traveler demands. On my most recent trip, I almost missed my early morning return flight to the Bay Area because they put me down for a cab ride at 5:45 am instead of 4:45 am - this happened even though I stopped by the front desk the evening before and asked them to double check that they had the time down right. This has nothing to do with character or politeness. Everyone I've encountered has impeccable manners and is the epitome of southern charm. But they need to go that extra step or they'll quickly get leapfrogged by someone that does. read more

The only positive thing I can say about this hotel Is that if you want to be in downtown Durham, near several restaurants within walking distance, this is a well located hotel for that purpose. The other positive is the young, friendly, charming employees, that work, the front desk and lobby restaurant. I was very disappointed in this hotel for several reasons: the hotel is over priced for what and where it is. There is no reason a hotel like this should be charging over $200 a night in Durham, North Carolina, a very small, southern town. Furthermore, despite spending over $200 a night, There was no safe in the room, there is no room service, the restaurant only serves dinner for about three hours, and then you are out of luck. If you want to eat, at the hotel "gym" is terrible, and, although there is a coffee maker in the room, there are bottles of water for four dollars per bottle, outrageous. read more

This place is located right in the heart of downtown Durham, making it a convenient landmark. It is also the location of the Convention Center, where NC Comicon recently took place - aka tons of people walking around in comic character costumes. Large place but rooms are still your typical Marriott rooms. Again, low-flow shower heads, sigh. No fan and no towel rack in the bathroom - WHY???!! Hair dryer has no "cool" temperature option. The only place you can open up your luggage is on top of your bed, so if you've got multiple people in a double, you better take turns. Asked for feather-free pillows because I absolutely cannot sleep on those ridiculously soft pillows. The room came with 3 pillows, ranging in firmness. I felt like Goldilocks. They gave me one incredibly limp pillow that folded on its own when I lifted it up, a semi-firm/semi-soft pillow, and a firm pillow. Seriously?? This room had a couple outlets at the lamp beside the double beds - yes! Bed is firm, but blankets are very thin, especially considering that it's almost winter. But plenty of towels are provided. Oh, and spotted a bug in the corner of the ceiling - ugh. read more

I purchased a room using points to stay at this hotel. Upon check-in I was told that the king bed room I reserved had been overbooked and that I was instead given a room with two twin beds. The only thing I was given for this inconvenience was a free breakfast at the hotel the following morning - which I could not use as I already had breakfast plans. Upon entry to our twin bed room, the room smelled of bleach, the window was incredibly water damaged so you couldn't see out, and water from rain that day was dripping from the top of the window to the floor. I contacted Marriott about these issues and was given Marriott Bonvoy points as a "gesture of goodwill". I've never used Bonvoy points in my life. Just a bad hotel experience with management, customer service, etc. Plenty of other hotels in the area to choose from. read more

Perfect location to walk around the absolutely adorable downtown area! I come to town a lot for work and while there are closer options to the Duke Hospital, I can't give up this location! The rooms are always nice, the views from the 2 sides I usually get out on are great too. It's only a 5min drive to the hospital, so it's a no brained. This is really your only choice directly in downtown Durham, so it's a good thing this is a solid, competent lodging. The free parking and reasonably-priced food and bar add extra value. The location is also prime, adjoining the Carolina Theatre and the Durham Convention Center and just a 5-minute walk from the Durham Performing Arts Center. Service was a little perfunctory at check-in and from room service, but it was efficient. The bar staff is very friendly. The rooms appear to have been recently renovated [in a gold and raspberry color scheme] and are surprisingly nice with attractive touches and a comfortable bed. The bathrooms are smallish and standard-issue Marriott, but otherwise room space and furnishings are good quality. Request a corner room, which has windows on two sides for lots of light. The fitness center has a pretty good selection of equipment. The atrium lobby is a little '80s-looking, but spacious and comfortable. If you stay here, you must try the restaurant Revolution, just a two-minute walk from the hotel and absolutely wonderful. The sleek design and creative menu make it one of the very best restaurants in Durham, and it won't break the bank, either. read more

Definitely one of my best Marriott visits. This location happened to be super convenient to the venue I was visiting (Durham Armory). The lobby was very contemporary and inviting. Although not utilized (because it was a holiday weekend), the Valet was ready to go when I checked in on Sunday evening. Check-in went very well. I was immediately greeted as a rewards member once my information was populated. After asking for the usual I.D. and credit card for incidentals, I received the room keys and was on my way to the room. The room was super "swanky" (in a good way). The hardwood floors and bull on the wall were a nice touch. We also had a great view as it felt like the windows extended across half the room. The sliding bathroom door was very interesting, but isn't much for privacy if you are sharing the room with family or kids. But for a couple...it's great! And to treat myself in the morning I ordered room service for breakfast. Room service ends up being a little less than the buffet if you pick the right items. The breakfast buffet downstairs was $16...which isn't bad if it offers what you desire. read more

Finishing up a business trip at this property. Be aware they are updating the lobby and the rooms so it is a bit chaotic. With that being said this is a great property in a good location with plenty of dining options nearby. The updated rooms are quite comfortable with new beds and a very large flat screen TV. One thing that is missing is a proper work area. There is no real desk or even a chair. This hotel is in a business district and the rooms should have a comfortable area to work. Dis & Dat: The staff has been very helpful and professional. The fitness area is clean and well equipped. The staff in the concierge lounge are beyond friendly and make you feel welcome as soon as you arrive whether it's early AM coffee or picking up a bottle of water in the evening. But like a beacon of light, the Marriot and Pamela (the marketing director) showed us hope and kindness. There is only one reason this hotel is not Perfect... the gym is tiny and pathetic. Oh and Marriott non carpeted rooms (they are tiled or laminate or wood something) is weird to me but it looks nice and I am sure that is just a me thing... The redesign is very nice and locally inspired which is cool. The staff is AWESOME!!! The concierge lounge is beautiful and unique in many ways being on the first floor and giving you access to the full morning buffet and open all the time with snacks and coffee. The work locations in the lounge and in the lobby are plentiful and very nice with plugs everywhere and sitting or standing options. This location is also fantastic. You can walk to all the unique things Durham offers. Many great restaurants, bakeries, venues and shops. You should stay here simply because of that... on the subject of Durham... I really like this town. I was shocked how much. People are nice. It is not expensive. Lots of unique places and it is pretty cozyish. Perfect location and again the only reason I am not giving it the wow is the gym because to me that is important. Oh though let me add. To sum up my stay here is to quote Charles Dickens: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness...." Although this building is truly an icon of the city of Durham (a major part of the skyline) as well as being a throwback to a golden age of hotels in North Carolina, I have to think that things could be better. For starters, the parking upon arrival. While its not the fault of the current staff that the outside parking is small (can accommodate 4-5 cars) for arrivals, it would be nice to have someone explain where to park. I expected either a valet, bellhop or other employee to come out and advise me. Nonetheless, I find out from the front desk that the parking garage is one block down the street and separate from the building. Ok, no big deal. Yet even still, why won't your valet get up from his little chair and offer to park it for me, as well as get my bags? No matter, I did that myself. The front desk staff after that was cool. In fact, they were really, really good in being accommodating as well as referring me to restaurant spots within walking distance in downtown Durham. In addition, they even gave directions to tour Duke's West Campus where Cameron Indoor Stadium was located. Great conversation that was well appreciated. The room itself was fine (very clean and comfortable), yet didn't strike me as being as being neither old or new. The furniture is probably more genteel and slightly Victorian, to a degree. Not bad, just different. The same can be said of the lobby. You can tell that this hotel has been here for a long-time (subsequently refurbished & renovated), yet its still quality. The internet connection speed was fine as well. Upon checkout around 6:45 AM, the female front desk agent seemed to be having a bad beginning to the morning. I wanted to charge the room fees on another credit card (to gain ccard award points, of course), to which the agent just looks at me funny and grumbles. It even seemed like an issue to get the receipt (which I always require). I chalked it up as her having a bad day and didn't make a big deal out of it, considering that I had to be in Chapel Hill for a 7:30 AM appointment. As I walked through the lobby and toward the convention center exit, I lamented a bit that this hotel has so much to offer yet came up a little short with me this time. Upon making that left turn toward the parking garage amid a light Carolina rain at the time, I noted that I'll give the downtown Marriott another try. All & all, not bad. read more

This is the worst marriott I've stayed at and I should've checked the yelp reviews before booking. I'm paying $190 (including taxes) for a one night stay, and there's no bottled water in the room, all their vending machines are out of order (I checked 4 floors). So I trudged to the lobby to buy some water from the front desk. She's too lazy to grab it for me so points me to the snack room, which I find 2 small bottles of water that's enough for a 2 yr old. Why is everything here so inconvenient? How do you not have bottled water? So basic. Would not stay here again. Marriott San Francisco was so much better managed and well kept. read more

Where else can you stay where you can walk to Rue Cler for beignets in the morning, or stumble back from quality cocktails at Alley, or store your leftovers pizza of Toro's or hang your cigar smoke jacket from whiskey's, or... the options are endless. Plus if you feel in the mood, you can work out at the Y all day and get your bball game on. Parking's a bit of a hassle though, cause that lot across the street obviously doesn't really accommodate everyone. read more

It's clean- that's good. Shower is anemic- that might be water saving mandated by laws? Not sure but I am a fast showering person - felt like it took me three times as long to get soap off. Rooms are super dark at night- there are only little glowing lights over the beds so forget reading unless you have a kindle or some such. Bathroom dated, TV didn't turn on, room service so late we procured our own things, water tastes terrible and they charge 4$ a bottle - so we bought a gallon at the grocery. read more

Nice hotel with a big comfy bed and free wi-fi and free parking. If you are traveling alone, the hotel will also provide you with free valet parking. A very nice touch! They also provide rooms at the government rate (with iD) My meeting was held at the Durham Convention Center which is attached to the Marriott. So in all this was very convenient. read more

Busy busy homecoming weekend on all fronts!!! But staff kept their cool! Windows in our room were so dirty, I couldn't even enjoy the 7th floor view. My toilet seat was mangled. It looked like a pit bull got a hold to it! Valet was a messy area..can't stand that, especially when you have no other option for parking!!!... M Lounge hosts were cordial and welcoming but I sure wish the snack selection would've been better than nuts, Chex mix and gummy bears. would we stay there again??? This hotel is a dog in need of a major update. Looks like they tried an update recently but let me tell you it's still very outdated. My ac made noises all night long, no safes in the room, 2 twin beds even though I booked a king, crappy clock radio with a aux cord(no Bluetooth), WiFi costs money, no TV guide on tv, nasty bathtub in bathroom, and none of the taps worked at the hotel bar. I booked a Priceline name-your-own price room at the Durham Marriott City Center a few weekends ago for an impromptu weekend trip. Priceline name-your-own price can be a huge gamble, but sometimes I'm happy to take it (leaves more money for the fun and food budget when I travel!). Right after booking, I called the hotel to kindly request a king bed instead of two double beds (two double beds doesn't really spell out weekend getaway for a couple...) and they were super accommodating and pleasant on the phone. Yay! I then noticed on their website that the parking is valet only and $12/night. The info on the Priceline page said free parking. Uh oh. I called the hotel who confirmed only paid valet parking. We were going to have two cars so that was a surprise $24/night we hadn't paid for. I had a 2 1/2 hour drive so I called Priceline. They were super, super unhelpful and said that since I did name-your-own price there was no guarantee of free parking (even though the hotel details said free parking...). Fine, whatever. I also want to note, there's also a Raleigh Marriott City Center. Be smarter than I am, fellow Yelper! Make sure when you program "Marriott City Center" into your GPS that you double-check the city. That was not a fun learning moment! Anyway, when I got to the hotel, I noticed tons and tons of street parking. While the hotel doesn't tell you this, parking is FREE on the streets and some lots from Friday night at 7:00PM until Monday morning. There went my annoyance about the whole valet/Priceline situation. And double-glad for that because the valet situation looked like a total nightmare -- there was a pileup of cars. Unless you like to spend money and wait in line for ages to have your car parked, park for free offsite on the weekend. The lobby is undergoing major renovations, but no big deal. Our room was modern, but the fake-wood floors made it look like a much, much lower end hotel. Whatever, it's just floors. We were given a corner room and the windows nearly covered two full walls -- absolutely beautiful. The bed was super comfy and we got better sleep than we'd gotten in a while. TV was buggy, only getting about half of the channels it should have. But I wasn't there for the TV. Hotel was in the perfect spot. The best Durham restaurants are within a few minutes walk. For the two nights we stayed, I paid less than I would have if I paid the listed price for one night. So great bargain in a great location. I don't know that I would have wanted to pay the $170 or so that it would have been if I paid list price but for what I paid, I was quite happy with a solid experience. read more
