    Popcorn ceiling and water damage
    Tracy H.

The only thing going for this hotel is the location. Aside from that, I found it extremely overpriced for the quality and service. The lobby is updated but the rooms are not. TBH, I felt like I was staying at a Holiday Inn Express that had been neglected. There were never enough towels and the towels that I did have were stained. Ew. I also was without hot water one morning and had to take a cold shower. When I requested a different room the hotel told me they would have one later that morning, but I let them know that I needed to head to work and would not be able to move until later that evening. Instead of offering to move my luggage to accommodate, I received repeated phone calls (but there was never a message left) while I was in meetings with my company's CEO. Those repeated calls were followed up with a snarky message through the Bonvoy app stating "As you know, the hotel is sold out and we are holding your room to accommodate." Accommodate the fact that my room had no hot water? Seriously? And how the heck would I know that the hotel was sold out. Not my problem that the hotel was over sold. Overall, not the experience I expect from a Marriott hotel. Unless you're really sold on the location, try the AC or a newer hotel instead.

Although we live nearby and have stayed in other local boutique hotels for staycations, we had never stayed here until we won a gift certificate for one free night. We asked for a particular Friday that we had nothing going on and they accommodated us even though the convention center attached to the hotel was hosting a big documentary film festival. We checked in, got a room on the ninth floor, and checked out the surroundings. Our voucher also gave us access to the M Lounge, so that was nice to get some snacks and drinks, and complementary breakfast the next morning. The view from our floor was cool and our sleep quality was better than I thought it would be with the hotel so crowded. Location is right in downtown Durham and convenient to plenty of restaurants, bars and performing arts venues. The only downside was that during our stay, only one of the elevators was working. Also, when I asked the front desk to make change so I could leave a tip for the cleaning staff, they said they weren't able to make change at that time, which I thought was a little odd.

This was my first time in Raleigh/Durham. The Marriott was nice, it had a lot of variety seatings everywhere. Couches, shakes, benches, tables, counters. The room was clean and comfortable. This was also my second time being at a Marriott hotel with an M Club. The breakfast and evening snacks were plentiful and delicious in my opinion. I love that we could go in anytime to get water, soda, juices, and teas. The rice crackers mix and M&M's are my favorite out of all the snacks. When I went to the M club for evening snacks, Sybil was super nice and told me that she brought new dishes out in case I wanted to try or was still hungry. I appreciated that because it's hard to come by employees who goes out of their way to tell people there's new food. We had a little humble chat and I'm really appreciate of her. Marriott is very lucky to have her. I didn't have long interactions with the front desk staff but they seemed nice.

Very centrally located in Downtown Durham near plenty of restaurants walking distance. The hotel is beautiful with spacious rooms. The bed was comfortable enough for a good night sleep. There's is a parking lot across the street that's free on the weekends. Due to the the pandemic room cleaning is not available, but you can ask for towels. Overall, great location for the price. Easily accessible to airport under 30 minutes.

Perfect location. Friendliest staff ever. I mean hands down the best. Clean room. On site gym, bar and restaurant. Inviting lobby. WiFi perfect. I loved it.

    Excellent location downtown.

I always stay at this hotel when in Durham for business. Even if it wasn't company approved, the location and value are hard to beat. They have clean rooms, a serviceable gym and business center, and a good restaurant on the premises for breakfast or dinner if you are too lazy to walk 5 minutes to sample many of the excellent eating options Durham has to offer. My primary beef with this facility is that it doesn't display the hustle and attention to detail that today's business traveler demands. On my most recent trip, I almost missed my early morning return flight to the Bay Area because they put me down for a cab ride at 5:45 am instead of 4:45 am - this happened even though I stopped by the front desk the evening before and asked them to double check that they had the time down right. This has nothing to do with character or politeness. Everyone I've encountered has impeccable manners and is the epitome of southern charm. But they need to go that extra step or they'll quickly get leapfrogged by someone that does.

The room was pleasant and had a nice view over the city towards the east, which gave a nice sunrise when we woke up early. The shower had decent pressure and the towels were fluffy -- something I really value in a hotel. I'm taking off one star because the hotel restaurant was not good. I got the vegetable hash and it was sad. Just a few cut up root vegetables thrown together barely warm and topped with a couple eggs for nearly $20. If you're staying in Durham, definitely don't go to the restaurant in this hotel.

Once the offices of a bank, it feels a little corporate, but not modern-day corporate, more like early/mid-century corporate and I can get into that! You'll be greeting by the staff that will help with valet or luggage and directed to reception up on the second floor. When you get out of the elevator, you may again be doubting that you're in a hotel because there's the museum and depending on what artist is being exhibited, it may feel like you've wandered into an alternate universe of sculpture and paintings. Admittedly, it's a little sterile rather than luxurious or minimalist or maximalist (or whatever vibe a hotel is going for with their lobby). No signature scent. No floral displays. While at first it was a little off-putting, it wasn't a big deal because the museum concept is truly unique. My favorite amenity is the water. Seriously. They give you two refillable bottles and encourage you to use the water dispensers in the lobby and gym. I also appreciate the cozy robes in the room, Malin + Goetz products in large dispensers, cutting down on the small bottle waste that drives me insane. I usually don't do coffee in hotel rooms b/c it's so substandard (I despise Keurig) but here it's Nespresso, which is pretty good. Not a fan of the heating/cooling system in the room. I like to sleep with moving air and the thermostat in my room seemed to be locked. Note to self to always check this when I arrive because I sure as hell don't feel like doing so when it's time to go to bed. The gym is reallllly small and in the basement. I wouldn't look forward to working out down there, but it is what it is. There's one elliptical machine, a couple stationary bikes and treadmills. Cable weights, plenty of free weights and a couple kettlebells. It's just really small and I was grateful that I had it to myself because I need room when I'm doing a strength workout. And those chilled eucalyptus towels are LIFE, almost making up for the tiny windowless gym! I enjoyed my stay here. It might be my favorite of the three hotels that I've stayed in when visiting Durham. I think given the location and amenities, the value is good (when I was booking, it was significantly cheaper than the Marriott where I stayed the last time).

Very friendly crowds, i got to experience the southern hospitality. I got a room with king bed and city view. It was nice to watch the sunset on the skyline each evening. It is next to the pool, so we can hear people at the pool. But it's very nice if you want to enjoy the pool. In terms of security, the place is locked at night. There's a security guard. It makes it ironic that pool view rooms are made to seem special because they are the motel rooms. They are also super loud because they overlook the Patio venue and have very thin walls. The furniture is quite dated, but they call it boutique. The rooms are not super clean. The bed was relatively comfortable for the quality of the property which is low. The lobby however is renovated and pretty nice looking. Walking into the lobby is a stark contrast from walking out to and into your room! They did not have breakfast available for our entire stay. They charge $1 for drip coffee "if you bring your own mug"! That had me laughing out loud. They didn't take the destination charges off our bill since we are globalists. The best feature of this property is the location. It's right in downtown Durham which is super cute! Go across the street to M Sushi or Queeny's for very different but both equally awesome food and experiences. Bottom line: If you need somewhere in downtown Durham to sleep and that's all, this spot will work.

This Residence Inn in Durham fell short in ways that are difficult to overlook. The positives: * Convenient location, especially for Duke and medical visits * Spacious room with modern décor * Extra-large bathroom and generous vanity -- easily the best feature * Breakfast area was spacious and pleasant (food was standard Residence Inn fare) The problems: Sleep quality is a basic hotel expectation, and this property did not deliver. The HVAC unit was extremely loud and cycled on and off all night. There was no clear way to turn it off completely, and it repeatedly woke us up. The refrigerator was older and made a constant ticking/compressor noise. Between the two, restful sleep was nearly impossible. Parking added another layer of frustration. There are very few surface spaces, a very small garage, and guests are charged for parking on top of that. Charging for parking when availability is this limited feels unreasonable. Additionally, the shower was missing body wash upon arrival -- a small detail, but one that speaks to oversight. We reported the HVAC noise and missing body wash to Tiffany and a woman who appeared to be a manager (Scott). While both were polite, no Bonvoy points or other acknowledgment of the inconvenience were offered. The room layout and location are strong, but between the noise issues and parking situation, we would choose another hotel in Durham in the future.

This place wasn't here the last time we were in town, but it's a perfect place to stay now. Located just off the Duke east campus, it's along Main Street, a couple minutes from Ninth street in one direction, downtown the other, and little jaunt to the Durham Bulls park and very close to the main freeways in the area. The building is very long - we were at the far end and it helped us get our steps in! The room we were in was at the end in a corner and was an odd shape - literally no other way to put it. The bedroom was good size, the couch room was just a little small. We have three little dudes sleeping in there and they did just fine. I just required a little feng shui! The bathroom had a random fifth wall that the toilet sat on. Not a big deal, just different than we've seen elsewhere. Our room was right over the parking garage, which was also very awkwardly shaped. There's a spot at the far end that you need to back into as we found it impossible to three point into it. Again, not a show stopper, but good to know ahead of time. The overflow lot across the street was much more straightforward. There's nice sitting space, a lively bar and a good medium sized workout area. The breakfast was solid, the market delightful, the staff lovely and the grounds overall very nice. It's a great property with some quirks and lot of really nice character. We'll be back!
