I received several offers and wanted to see what Doug Hopkins would offer. Without reading any reviews beforehand, I was completely blindsided by the experience. Chris Hanson, a real estate agent with My Home Group, reached out and asked a series of probing questions. I filtered my responses, and it quickly became clear he wasn't happy about not knowing my reasons for selling, my next move or what I owed on the home. His sales pitch focused on emphasizing that their offer would be well below market value, and include their commissions, inspection fees, appraisal and other costs deducted, which directly contradicts the promises in their media advertising. It was almost as if he were talking me out of working with them. The whole interaction with Chris at Doughopkins.com felt surreal. Still curious, I agreed to schedule an appointment for the next day. But later that same day, Chris called back and said they weren't interested in buying my home because it's next to a busy street--fair enough. Then, in an odd twist, he asked if I knew anyone who might need their services. I asked him to clarify: Was he turning me down but still asking for referral business from me? That's when he got angry and said "I'm done with this conversation" and abruptly hung up. The Zillow value is 560K. there are no houses in the last 2 years in my neighborhood that have sold under $500,000. you will pay dearly if you sell your house to Doug Hopkins rather than going into a realtor or a better cash offer company. Cash offers can be a good thing if you need to sell your house fast but check with the realtor first to find out how much you're going lose in the sale. if you're gonna lose $15-$20,000 in a sale and you can sell it instantly it might be worth the money but not hundreds of thousands dollats or mire. I believe they are disrespectful. I stated the first time I spoke to them that I would not consider an offer in the 300K range. They called me a month later asking if I would sell my home in the approx 340-350K range. They said that I would not be able to sell my home for $450 because two houses down the home owner sold their home for $460, and my home does not have a pool. I said If my home doesn't sell for what I need, then I will rent to section 8. Then the rep said that maybe my HOA would not allow section 8 rentals. How does he know? My experience is similar to George M and Mark J in that I was offered $100k less than my home is worth. I wish I would have read Yelp reviews before I called this company. I was told that they would have to make upgrades in order to bring the value of the home up. I ended up going with a realtor and I sold my home for a nice profit and well above their low ball offer. Doug Hopkins came to my parent's home and explained in detail what he was going to do. Rip out all the counters and remodel the kitchen and replace all tile and carpet throughout the house as well as repaint carpeting and repair the pool. All of which would cost him aprox 75K because of his connections in the construction industry. He said he needed to make a profit of around $25,000. So he offered me $550,000 for a $700,000 house. He even promised to send pictures of all the improvements made as the work progressed. Much to my surprise he listed the house as soon as we closed and sold it for $635,000 the next day. I don't begrudge a person making money but to blatantly lie to do it is not the way a professional should do business. I had assured my neighbors that even though I sold at a discount the buyer was going to do major upgrades before putting in on the market to maintain values in the neighborhood. I was a fool but I hope everyone else learned from my mistake and never does business with this man. read more

My house is estimated at a minimum of $300,000, plus I have other amenities. It has been on the market for 130 days originally priced at $850,000. They came back today and offered $525,000. That barely covers what the vacant land has been selling for here. This is very definitely a lowball offer. Needless to say, I declined the offer. They also say no commissions, but their offer is predicated on subtracting the commission amount from their offer along with any closing costs. After commenting on how nice the house was, he explained we would have to install new kitchen cabinets and granite countertops in order to make the house sellable. He also explained that he could do the work for a greatly reduced price due to his "connections". Well, I decided to do it myself. For $7,000, we had the house professionally cleaned and painted, installed some new bathroom fixtures, new carpet and blinds, and revamped the landscaping. The result? The house looked beautiful and sold in 2 days!!! We got the full asking price of $169,500 and it officially closed yesterday. So instead of netting $6000 from DougHopkinsisascam.com, we walked away with over $47,000 after all updates and fees. It literally took me two weeks to schedule and complete all the work. I used Angies list and found some great contractors. I'm pretty sure DougHopkinsisnotcool.com was not going to put granite countertops in our house; they just threw that in there to pad their bottom line. Although I was told they would only net around $10 - 12,000 on our house, they must be very poor businessmen if me, a girl, could act as my own general contractor and net $47,000 after two weeks of work.
