We had reservations and were late, and for a moment the hostess announced she had cancelled our reservations and then stared at us a moment, then said she could seat us, which was weird. The place was pretty empty and it wasn't close to closing, but it seems she wanted to scold us first. Luckily, the experience picked up after that. The decor is nice with dark wood, simple but elegant chandeliers, and old photos on the wall. The service was great. The complementary bread was nice and soft. I had the baked chicken which came with spinach and white beans in a big pile and was a bit too saucy. The steak was well-cooked but also pretty saucy, accompanied by mashed potatoes with 2 plantains haphazardly stuck in with a side of chimichurri sauce. All the flavors were good, but the presentation was a bit odd. The prices were reasonable. It was fine, but nothing that felt like a standout for more fine dining options. I stayed at Resorts Casino Hotel and decided to give Dougherty's Steakhouse & Raw Bar a try. I was able to walk in and get seated without a reservation, which was a plus. I ordered the Tilted Pineapple Martini, Brussels sprouts, and the ribeye. The food was okay--nothing particularly memorable--but everything was cooked well. Service was also just okay. The restaurant itself felt a bit dark and somewhat stale. There was also a large, very loud group nearby (seemed like a conference group), which took away from the overall atmosphere. Oyster Me! This place was my obsession during the trip. Their Happy Hour deal of $1.50 oysters was unbeatable--I came back multiple times and even crushed 20 oysters in one sitting... zero regrets! The shrimp cocktail was next-level, with shrimp so big and meaty they were practically steak-like. We also tried the Kobe and Filet sliders--both tasty, but the Kobe was the clear winner for me. We came here on a Saturday night before the Diana Ross concert. We really wanted to like this place as we love Docs and Knife and Fork. My friend is gluten free and we informed the waiter. He really had no idea what she could eat. She wanted the salmon but without the toasted pasta. He said it couldn't be done. Why? Isn't everything made fresh? When we asked he just said they couldn't do it. The appetizers were amazing but the main courses failed to impress. The filet did not taste like a fresh cut piece of meat but rather frozen. The crab was not jumbo lump meat. The béarnaise sauce was thin and watery. My friend enjoyed her chicken but they did not give her enough sauce for the entire meal. The best seafood happy hour in Atlantic City. During HH, their $1/each raw clams and $10 crab claws are must haves! I also ordered their steamed clam, coconut shrimp and raw oysters. The steamed clams were just ok as there were only 7 pieces in the order. The coconut shrimp was large and served with a sweet pineapple-apricot sauce which was addicting. I was here for restaurant week, & now I fear they're going to take my money because I need to come back all year! I had wonderful oysters on the half. Then lobster tail with the best asparagus I ever tasted. I am aware of how that sounds and I refuse to debate the issue, somehow they've made asparagus, a transcendent experience. She made our experience unforgettably horrible with her blatant disrespect & very clear rudeness! She started out professional but due to the vibe of happy hour, become unhinged quickly. My girlfriend (a high roller) invited me to join her on her recent visit from NY. This waitress apparently knew her from previous visits as she addressed her with familiarity. As a high roller, she is used to ordering many items at once. As she ordered, (deciding on more items) this waitress became impatient and excused herself as she told us there were others that needed her as it was a busy time. After a time, she returned, appeared bothered as she took our order. She came back for our drink orders, reversed actions for a restaurant. The items were timely delivered, but we needed a few things that were missing. Sauces, napkins etc. and she visually behaved as if we were a bother. As we ended our meals, we needed to go boxes. She gave inappropriate containers for a dish (liquids) that required a lid container. When asked, she said she couldn't do that as it was against regulations. My friend told her that she had been given her request on prior visits with no issue. We asked for a manager, she said she'd ask, returned and confirmed she couldn't accommodate her request. AND said the manager was unavailable! Then she muffled something as she turned and walked away. Whoa, she apparently was not having a good day, and we certainly didn't either! I ordered the Tomahawk steak and it came a bit undercooked as requested, however, I was ok with it because I ate around the parts that were cooked as wanted and took the rest to go (heating up will make it to the cook I want). We often go to the Raw Bar and always enjoy our food. They added some new items to their menu recently so we thought we should try some of them. The chicken wings were awful. Despite being the only customers, they didn't rush us at all. The appetizers were delicious, but the main course was a letdown. The salmon was extremely dry, and the porterhouse, strip, and ribeye were all bland and lacked any flavor. They definitely weren't worth the steakhouse prices. We tried several sides, and most of them were good, except for the Brussels sprouts, which had an unusual taste, and the asparagus, which was very mushy. Overall, the food was just okay, nothing special compared to the many other steakhouses in the area. I would recommend going somewhere else. Maybe it was just an off night for the kitchen. We had Calamari, clams casino, and the roasted oysters for appetizers and the group ordered the porterhouse steaks to share a there was a filet as well. I inquired about the prime rib and waitress gave me a subtle look and steered away towards the steaks. I chose the bone in ribeye with a baked sweet potato. The calamari was good but the clams casino and oysters was not something I would order again. The steaks and sides arrived and everything looked great at this point. Everybody was happy with their steaks and my ribeye had to be 1 of the best I've had in a very long time. It was cooked perfect, tender and juicy. The fine dining restaurant has a nice place very classy. The front desk hostess was very accommodating, setting a welcoming tone for the evening. The calamari was fresh and The arugula salad was to die for--perfectly balanced flavors with sweet melons, grated cheese, and a refreshing salad that tied everything. The churrasco steak was cooked medium-well, just the way I wanted. The chimichurri sauce had great flavor, complementing the steak perfectly. I was very happy coming here. The NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER - salt pork, yukon gold potato, surf clam was really outstanding. Maybe some of that seafood specialty is flowing over from Dock's which they also own. On that same slow night there was a single person seated at the table next to me. He was muttering low curses and other inaudible words to no one. He ordered the French onion soup and asked for bread with butter. He enjoyed that while also enjoying the two Heineken bottles of beer he wasn't served and to increase the ambience of this place he attempted to light, as in with his lighter that had an unusually large flame, the battery operated table candle twice. I got all of this from my peripheral as I was truly doing my best just to enjoy my meal in quiet. I made no complaint or comment and this is a tough one from any perspective, especially for a slow night. I'm not even saying Dougherty's should have done something as I think that would have been wrong too. One of the reasons I like it is because there's a cut through that's inside so you don't even have to go outside to get to the restaurant. They have happy hour during the day and also late nights you have to get there early because it does get really busy. Happy hour menu is large and a lot of good seafood items. In my line of work, I get the opportunity every now and then to get a super nice meal on the tab of a vendor I collaborate with. This was one of those times, which also is why I didn't get to take any pictures! :-) First, if you didn't know, there is a breezeway that connects the Resorts Casino (which is where the restaurant is) to the Hard Rock. So if you are staying in Resorts, you can easily take a walk over to Hard Rock for a nightcap or if you're at Hard Rock and looking for a different setting, walk on over to Resorts. We were a party of 13, so we got our own little private room which was pretty sweet. First and foremost, the wait staff was AMAZING. Our waitress was not only super friendly but very knowledgeable about the menu and made great suggestions for pairings, etc. Goodness I wish I remembered her name but she was European, so shouts to her lol! I am not a big fan of raw seafood, but if you are, the seafood tower app is a must. I mean wow...a giant setup of lobster, clams, crab legs, shrimp, and then some. My colleagues, many of which who were raw seafood fans were going on. I ordered a fantastic NY strip. It was cooked perfectly and paired great with their whipped potatoes and lobster mac & cheese gnocchi. This is reflected in the description but it is definitely on the pricier side but well worth it for a significant occasion or a splurge of a night out. When you order a steak it is literally just a steak and the sides are a la carte, but sharable which is solid. I've been here twice now for HH which is daily from 4-6. They have a very beautiful decor and nice bar setup. The bartenders and servers are also very nice and personable. Both times I've ordered one of my favorite apps the Calamari with marinara sauce and fresh lemon $8 during HH. It was crispy golden brown and delicious. My hubby joined me the second time and got some fresh oysters $1.25 each during HH. He said they were very good and fresh. For drinks I've tried their specials the blueberry martini, the Aperol Spritz, and the grapefruit cosmopolitan. Of the three I'd have to say the blueberry martini was my favorite. I personally really didn't care for the others. On my next visit I think I'll sample some of their wine. The one evening I was there they had some live entertainment, a trio playing. Who misses happy hour? I do. So I was so glad to find this place thanks to my aunt who lives in the area. Food and some drink specials. The blueberry martini was very nice but not a great combination flavor wise with the different food I was also enjoying. The tuna poke was light and fresh with just the right amount of soy and Wasabi flavor. The meatballs were moist and tasty. The bacon was think, crisp and one of my favor items anytime and anywhere.
