We were driving to another destination, saw the winery sign and thought "why not" It was definitely a strange space. It is in the corner of what is essentially a lobby for the hotel it is in. The space is warm and welcoming but the winery doesn't seem to fit. It is $1 per sample and they try to make it look fancy by having tasting boards. But it didn't add much to the experience. My husband and I both tried four wines each. Between writing the wine names on the board in chalk and pouring them it took a lot longer than I expected to get from ordering to sampling. You can choose to sit in the lobby area (there are two large couches) or in the breakfast room of the hotel. I will say the breakfast area has beautiful views with floor to ceiling windows. But it just doesn't seem to fit with wine tasting. You also carry your flights which I'm thankful I didn't spill because I'm a complete klutz. The wines were just ok. Some had an off putting odor and there was only one of the four I actually enjoyed. I guess I'm glad we took a little side trip to try something new, but it definitely isn't s place I'd recommend or go back to. read more

This winery is unique as it is located in the Guggisberg Swiss Inn. They have their own vineyard and all of the wine originate from that vineyard. However the winery is in the lobby at a booth and they have events in the small room near by or you can adventure outside to enjoy the wine. They have two dry wines. They have a red and white wine. Red is a Pinot Noir and it was almost okay to drink. It didn't taste that good. It could be for several reasons. One growing a Pinot Noir in certain climate regions is difficult. Second the wine smells like it was made in stainless steel and could have been added to oak to provide a better taste or potentially blended with another wine. The white wine was a gewurztraminer which is a German wine. This wine was awful. It tasted like too much sugar was added to provide a taste. In addition I tasted salt, which disturbed me. The majority of the wines were all sweet wines. The sweet wines were good. We attended an event here and had a bottle of the Catawba which tasted like it was 3-4 % of Residual Sugar which is sweet. We couldn't finish the bottle. I ended up with a very bad stomach ache. Now let's talk about the prices on the wine. A glass of wine is $10.50. They barely give you anything. I've been to many wineries where it is $6 and they provide you better quantity and quality of wine. The bottles of wine are very expensive, $17-$26 for a bottle of wine. I never talk down on wine but this was a bad experience of drinking wine. They need to seriously work on a way to get better at producing better made wines. This just wasn't my cup of tea. Maybe others will have a better experience but being a critic of wine an amateur wine maker, I'd hope if my wine was awful that someone would provide me the same token. read more

This place was very odd. Looks beautiful from the road but once you drive up the long driveway, you arrive at a place that is basically a motel. We were actually a little skeptical to enter. After we did, we saw a booth basically setup in the lobby of the motel... which was the "winery". Just not what one would expect when going to a winery I suppose. The wine was fine, and the back area was ok. Some trees, ducks, a few swings and rocking chairs, but nothing I would drive out of my way to go see. Just an odd setup, but probably a nice feature if you're staying in a motel. I just wouldn't recommend as a stop on a winery tour. read more

Visited on a recent wine trip and were not sure what to expect. After heading up the driveway we were greeted by a motel. So I'm going to keep this as short and sweet as I can: the wine selection is big for a small place and they are all pretty wonderful, as shown by the awards hanging on the bottles behind the bar. You can see the vineyards on the property. But if you're a frequent winery visitor, don't picture this is an actual winery. It is literally a little wooden booth of sorts set up next to the checkin desk at the Guggisberg Swiss Inn. The reservation women will come let you sample and buy when they're not taking reservations or checking folks in. There are not, per se, tables to sit and be served at. You buy a bottle, grab your glasses, and take it all outside to enjoy at one of their many swings or picnic tables and hope the horses are roaming the property nearby for you to pet and marvel. Don't get me wrong, this is amazing. Wine and horse grazing, what could be better?! We stayed here last year for a weekend and now we visit for a drink and hopes of visiting the horses every time we come to Amish country. But when you know of other local wineries like Breitenbach, just don't have those winery expectations of the size and scale. This is about as opposite of that as it gets. They were also out of their blush, which is my favorite, on this visit. I heard another customer complain, "how can a winery be out of wine?!" Again, think small scale. You will not be let down by the quality and scenery though, trust me. read more

Our experience here was absolutely magical! We unexpectedly ran into this place on an impromptu motorcycle ride. The ride there was through beautiful Amish town and traffic was minimal. The weather was perfect in mid August 2019. We walked into the quaint Swiss Inn and were greeted with wine options or tastings. Once we chose a wine we each took or glass to the indoor patio where we were greeted by a herd of beautiful horses! My jaw dropped! Then i was told we could go out and greet them and pet them! I was literally surrounded by at least 20 horses at one time. Then later they had a one man band in the gazebo on the property. It is seriously heaven on earth, at least close enough. read more

We have now been coming to the Inn for 3 years in a row for a girls trip. We have all traveled extensively and this still remains one of our very favorite spots. The wine is AMAZING, but the atmosphere and the staff are what keeps us coming back. It is quite literally a small slice of heaven. We all work and have families with very busy lives and this how now become our relaxing resting spot to rejuvenate. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking and the owners make you feel so welcomed and at home. Breakfast is served every morning and you are greeted by the pleasant and friendly owner (who is also the chef) and on the weekends, there is live entertainment outdoors and the peacefulness of this place is second to none. I can assure you, if you are looking for a place to relax and unwind you will simply not be disappointed!!!!! This will be a the trip we always look forward to. read more

This was the third year in a row my wife and I spent our anniversary here. The rooms aren't anything to write home about but that's not why we go. We go for the beautiful outdoor atmosphere. Sitting by the peaceful pond with a delicious sangria watching the horses roam is so relaxing. We always buy a handful of bottles of the house made wine to recreate the sangria at home. The local Amish people are very charming. We love eating and shopping at the nearby businesses. If you are looking for a fancy, chic hotel you might want to look elsewhere. If you are looking for peaceful tranquility with good house made wine look no further. read more

Came to this place during our trip for Thanksgiving. We decided to spend the day driving around Millersburg and were looking for things to do when this popped up. The hotel itself is very dated and secluded (up on a hill). There must not be too many accommodations in this town so I understand how this place is still in business. It's located on a beautiful hill with peaceful scenery surrounding it. The wine tasting area itself was rather... makeshift and they don't do the best job at accommodating larger crowds. The wine tasting counter was rather small. The hotel receptionist who also served us the wine was very friendly. The wines themselves were ok. There was a sweet wine that I enjoyed and you can't beat 50 cent tastings. Buy the bottle if you like something since a glass of wine will run you $7 or $8 but a bottle is about $15. She was generous with the pours and we enjoyed our brief time there. I'm sure when the weather is nice its beautiful outside in their patio area. read more

Very rude wine tasting attendant. Once we were done tasting she was very short with us. Snatched the small bowl of pretzels RIGHT OUT OF MY HAND ans said these are ONLY for wine tasting, we can't just give these out!" We were going to sit in the sun room & discuss spending a weekend here & eat the last 10 pretzels. How disgusting that she is going to put those pretzels back in the bag after my husband I had both had our fingers in the bowl! I wonder how many other fingers had touched those we consumed while tasting the wine. YUCK! We won't be back! read more

We were in and out of this place very quickly. Mostly due to the attitude of our wine attendant. Very stand offish and rude. The property is very pretty and I can completely understand why this would be a local gem. Too bad they don't have good help. I got a peak of the beautiful scenery in the back on my way to the bathroom and said to my husband, "after you get your glass, you should check out this scenery." He said that as he headed to take a look he was told, "The glass needs to stay up here." To which he responded, "I can't take it to look out the window?" And was told, "I prefer you didn't." When I came out of the bathroom, my husband was ready to go and not at all interested in grabbing a glass after our tasting. This was winery #76 for us so we have traveled to many wineries (76 to be exact, lol) and her customer service was horrible. Such a nice place. Amish Country setting with amazing scenery. Absolutely delicious Wine. Winery is open Mon-Sat 12-9pm. They have live entertainment on Friday nights 7pm to 10pm. We will be going back for live entertainment and horseback riding in May or June. They also have a breath-taking cabin for rent, hopefully we will be able to rent it when we come for our next visit. The staff is nice and friendly. It is nice to know that traditional hospitality is still alive. This is a must if you are visiting Amish County, Holmes County Ohio. She asked if we were staying at their Inn and when we said no we wanted there for wine tasting she said "Good now I wont have to go upstairs" ?????? We were in Amish Country and just happened by this winery. We were so pleased with our hostess, she introduced us each wine we tried several. She made my sister fresh coffee, as she is not a wine drinker. We purchased two bottles of wine and two of the beautiful engraved wine glasses. This place has beautiful scenery and pleasant people. My husband and I spent a wonderful afternoon at Doughty Valley Winery! We were welcomed immediately upon entering the Swiss Inn, by the owners wife. Very sweet lady who explained each of their wines. My husband loved the Pinot, while I truly enjoyed the Catawba. We also enjoyed a wonderful lunch, overlooking their beautiful, quiet backyard pond. Their Bistro offers a great selection of sandwiches, most using their Guggisberg cheese. Of course, they were fabulous!!! (Hubby had the Reuben and I had a ham and Swiss grilled cheese that was served with a sunny side up egg on it---delicious and so different than standard fare) We'll definitely be back to enjoy this wonderful gem! read more
