Great little winery! We highly enjoyed our visit. The owners were so friendly and their wine is great! We were so glad we stopped! Tank the winery dog is also so cute and friendly.

Coming back for a second visit over Memorial Day weekend honestly confirmed everything I thought…read morethe first time around. What started in January as a random stop traveling back from Florida has quickly turned into one of those places that feels impossible to pass up when we are anywhere nearby. This place was busy all afternoon, and honestly, I think that says everything about what Killing Tree has built out there. Great wine, great food, live music, a beautiful property, and a crowd that genuinely seemed happy to be there. It feels less like a winery and more like a community gathering spot. Shannon took care of us this visit and was fantastic from beginning to end. The fact that she remembered me from months ago completely caught me off guard and immediately made us feel welcomed back. That kind of personal touch matters and you can tell the staff truly cares about the experience people are having. The pizza was outstanding, the BLT with turkey added on was piled high, and somehow that bottle of Gosh Dang disappeared way too fast sitting out there in the sunshine. There is just something special about this place. Relaxed, welcoming, beautiful, and incredibly easy to lose track of time at. Already looking forward to trip number three.

Gotta say, the website was much more impressive than the actual place. This wasn't too far of a drive from Dresden Inn but coming back, we got turned around because of the lack of lights, signage and skinny roads. They have plenty of parking and the string of lights outside was cute. I asked the waitress TWO times whether the sweet potato fries for the sandwich entree was extra and she confirmed TWICE that it was not an extra cost. Welp, upon paying, guess what? It was $4 extra! Just look at my picture to see that like 12 skinny AF fries are NOT worth the extra charge! Their house chips were great. I ordered the brie & jam sandwich and it was filling and delicious. I also ordered a crispy chicken salad and was pretty disappointed at the quality. I abhor cheese shavings on salad (they don't belong on salads!) and there was just mounds of very processed looking cheese. There was not enough chicken pieces for the price, too many croutons, no onion or enough tomato; just cheap lettuce. They don't serve regular glasses of water here. It was all crushed ice! We suspected they were just pre-wine slushies! This was really odd. There's not real wait service but since we sat upstairs, people needed to bring stuff up so I did tip a usual amount. I wanted to experience more of a country, made from scratch type of setting so was not too happy with the very Chilis/Applebee quality and presentation of their food.

This time we were planning a trip to the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, OH for the weekend. We planned it perfectly to allow us to stop here first when they open up. When we arrive, it's like most wineries that we've ever been to, it's in the middle of no where, long drive on back roads, which always tells us this is going to be good. :) We arrived and as soon as you see the location of the winery, it's breathtaking, as it sits on a hillside and oversees the area of beautiful nature, it's incredible. They have seating as you arrive in the front of the winery, on the side in a shaded area and in the back, in which where we preferred. They have several large areas around the property where they grow their grapes at on the property. The owner was very sweet and nice, as I like to ask too many questions, but she was kind and provided me some feedback. Majority and if not all of the wine is sourced from the estate directly. Some of the grapes they had to outsource because of a bad growing season and or they aren't planting any longer. Importantly enough they stay local in Ohio, but one of the grapes they obtain from New York. Moving on about the important part is the wine. We both tried our own flights, I had the Chambourcin, Country Ridge, Terra Red and Crooked Creek. They were all very good. The Chambourcin is a dry red aged in an american oak barrel, and has an amaging taste. The Red is a blend of two different red wines and my favorite, and the Country Ridge was another favorite as it was an off-dry red. My wife loved the white wines. The wines were all excellent. This was our first stop and didn't want to leave, that's how nice it's here. These are the type of wineries we enjoy stopping at. I asked the owner how long they've been here. She said interesting story that they've been here officially 27 years, but opened up 4 years after purchasing the property and planting the grapes. It allowed the grapes enough time to actually be prepared enough to make an estate wine. She said when they seen the property was for sale and it was 1200 acres, they purchased 55 acres, signed the paperwork and 3 days later they owned the property. What an amazing story they have. This is a special place to visit and indulge on the wine. She also made a recommendation on a restaurant in Wooster, OH that we took her up on her recommendation, and she was right, it was awesome. I highly recommend visiting this establishment. So worth it. One more thing the name of the winery, why Terra Cotta? I didn't ask but should have. One cool thing is when you are served a cheese board and or anything it's all on a terra cotta material. Very cool. How about the prices, they're right to the point.

Driving out to the vineyard, you will experience beautiful views and then you will be rewarded once you get inside. Plenty of parking outside and the winery looks out on their rolling vineyards. Terra Cotta is owned by a couple who have been making wine for a while. The winery has been open for 17 years, but their experience extends beyond that. We went early on a Friday afternoon and since it was slow, we had an opportunity to chat with the owners. I was impressed with their participation in local community events and their connections to other wineries around Ohio (they know the owners of several). They were set up for a nighttime event on the day we were there and they do Paint and Sips occasionally as well. Although you won't get Terra Cotta wines at the big Ohio Wine Fest in Kirtland or the North Market Wine Fest in Columbus, it's worth the drive out there to try out the wines and find one you like. They have everything from sweet to dry. Our favorite was the Terra Red, so we bought a bottle. My only regret is that we didn't get to try all of their wines, but we were on a road trip, so we just sampled this time around. Hopefully we can get back there soon!

They were going to have live music as well as a food truck in the evening but we had other plans. The winery offered samples for $1. Most of our group chose 4-6 wines to try so our table looked a bit crazy with all the glasses. The one downside was that the employee who helped us was relatively new and had us do our tastings from sweet to dry, instead of dry to sweet. She did say that she was trained this way but it threw me off. Luckily, the owner came in and we were able to ask some questions. When I questioned the thought process of going from sweet to dry - he quickly corrected our remaining samples and made a note to do some retraining. I enjoyed that this was a family owned winery. Even the kids were studying subjects in college to allow them to be part of the business as well. I loved the theme of time. Our group ended up leaving with several bottles and I would definitely recommend this winery to others.

They do have food trucks at times. Still, a couple more food choices wood be nice. Maybe some different chips and dips, veggie trays or flatbreads. Has a large upper room for special events, and a small patio but plenty of green space with tables, great for entertainment with a wooded area that has a fire pit. Just maybe a few more fire pits for the colder evenings.
