You have to understand that my mom was EXIGENT about not getting a pair of glasses after her cataract surgery a few years back. She was so adamant, we had to pay extra for the fancy lenses to be put in her eyes at the time of the surgery. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE when my parents called me after their appointment GUSHING about Dr. Garrett and how my mom had also gotten a pair of glasses ordered! Understand that I have been BEGGING her to get glasses for years after her surgery and, somehow, this young man was able to manage what I had thought to be impossible. They gushed about how thorough he was with them. They gushed about how, even though my parents are ESL, he somehow managed helping them understand the findings/recommendations of the visit w/o an interpreter (which is usually me). AND THEN.....he recommended some eye drops to my mom who shares Central Valley dry eye issues with me. So, I ended up with the same eye drops I have been using for the last few weeks and they have been AMAZING for me. So...my parents glasses arrive and a complimentary blue cleaning cloth also arrives...one side has grippies so that your fingers don't slip against the cloth as you clean your glasses! At the end of the year, I ordered new lenses for my frames, knowing my insurance would renew the following month. I provided my updated insurance info and was quoted just under $100 out-of-pocket for new glasses. The office manager confirmed the quote and told me they'd save it in the system. They took measurements and asked me to call after January 1st to finalize the order. On January 3rd, I called as instructed. The staff member said she'd place the order and call back for payment. A few hours later, she did--but told me I now owed over $600. I explained that this must be an error, as I had been quoted under $100 just a few weeks earlier. She said she'd check and get back to me. Later, the office manager called and insisted I was mistaken, claiming no such quote was ever given. I asked her to review the records, but she said she already had and stood by the higher price. While I have a lot of respect for the doctor himself, the handling by the office staff has led me to take my business elsewhere. It's unfortunate, but I can't trust a team that doesn't stand by their word or treat patients with accountability.

I purchased two pairs of glasses that ended up being incorrectly made--wrong working distances, wrong bifocal placement, and unusable from day one. I later saw an independent optometrist who confirmed the prescriptions and measurements from this office were not accurate. Despite clear documentation and multiple attempts to resolve the issue, I was only given a partial refund. There was no real follow-up, no accountability, and no meaningful effort to fix the remaining problems. Instead, I continued receiving automated "your glasses are ready" texts long after the issues were known. For the cost involved, basic accuracy and professionalism should not be optional. I recommend verifying all prescriptions and measurements carefully and being prepared to seek a second opinion.

When my insurance changed, I had to seek care at other offices, and none of them were able to give me the correct diagnosis. Dr. Irish eventually did, which is why I was very disappointed to learn that he is no longer with the practice. A year or two ago, while Dr. Irish was still the doctor here, I had an appointment and went through the entire process of having my glasses ordered. The technician collected my payment and told me the glasses would be ordered. I knew glasses could take some time, so I waited. After about a month without hearing anything, I finally called and found out that my prescription request had simply been forgotten. I ended up requesting a refund. More recently, I have been trying to get another exam scheduled. My original appointment was in February, but because of a family emergency, I had to reschedule. I eventually got an appointment with Dr. Irish several months later. Then, shortly before that appointment, I was contacted and told it needed to be rescheduled again, this time until the end of August. During that conversation, I was also informed that Dr. Irish was no longer with the practice and that there was a new doctor. I was surprised because I had not previously been told that Dr. Irish had left. I decided to keep the appointment because the practice already had my records and history, and after waiting so long, I did not want to start over somewhere else. Unfortunately, today I was contacted again and told that the new doctor has jury duty, so my appointment needs to be rescheduled once again. I completely understand that things happen, and I do not blame the new doctor for having jury duty. I also want to be very clear that I have no opinion about the new doctor because I have not even had the opportunity to meet them yet. My frustration is with the repeated rescheduling and the communication surrounding these changes. I sincerely hope the new doctor is wonderful. My disappointment is really with the overall experience. A prescription request was forgotten while Dr. Irish was still practicing there, I had to request a refund, my exam has now been rescheduled twice, and I have been trying to get this exam since February. I also only found out that the doctor I trusted was no longer there when I was already being contacted about rescheduling my appointment. Dr. Irish gave me a reason to have confidence in this practice. I just wish the communication and follow-through had given me the same confidence.
