Haven't met the doctor so my review for now will just address the customer service we received at the front desk. My 8 yr old recently broke his glasses just before he had to go to school. Frame was cracked & one of the lenses popped out. Well, we are new to Oakdale, so based on previous Yelp reviews I decided to go with Dr Patten's office. Great choice! After it was determined that insurance wouldn't cover a 2nd pair of glasses for another year, Dr Patten's receptionist encouraged me to bring my son's glasses to see if they could still use the lenses. We were quickly brought in to the fitting area - we didn't need an exam just the glasses. While my son was trying on glasses Doctor Patten (I assume) walked by us & warmly greeted us. The assistant quickly found an affordable frame ($120) that not only did the lenses seem to fit but also looked great on my kid. We waited maybe 10 min for her to do her magic before she fitted my son again & ensured his new glasses wouldn't wiggle off his face. Considering the warm welcome, the efficiency at solving my son's dilemma while saving me some cash convinced me to revisit them when another family member needs eyewear or an exam. read more

Dr Patten has been my go to guy for all my vision needs for a few years now. He's an excellent and attentive Dr with a great "bed side manner." (No clue if that applies to eye doctors lol but what the heck, that just happened) Every time I need to be seen his staff is able to get me in right away. Sometimes even same day. They are all super kind and go out of there way to make sure my needs are met. Anytime my glasses need repair they just have me come right down and take care of it all in the office and no charge. I have never had any hassles with them and they take most insurances too. If you need glasses or contacts the price is great here. They have something that will fit into any budget and do a great job getting in and out in a timely manner. I strongly recommend Dr Patten to anyone in need of a great eye doctor! read more

The billing department here is unorganized and unprofessional. When I went in for a checkup and new glasses, they called and verified my insurance (I am double covered). My portion to Pay should have been 0. Not only did they bill it incorrectly multiple times (they billed secondary as primary), they were rude and never took responsibility, just blamed me and my insurance. Mind you, no other optometrist has had this issue. Now too much time has passed for my insurance to be billed so I am financially responsible for the $300 balance. Frustrating! read more

My children and I have been going to Oakdale Optometry for more than 15 years and Dr. Patten and now Dr. Boyd and their staff especially Lucy and Killi. They treat us like family and they always send my kids congratulatory cards whenever they read something about them getting school awards in the newspaper. I think that is sweet of them. I saw Dr. Danielle Boyd instead of Dr. Patten, and here's my 2 cents.... Short version: Dr. Boyd is competent, caring, and I don't plan to go anywhere else! I understand more about my eyes and their quirks than I ever have before! Longer version: My family recently visited the office for exams and new glasses. The office staff were friendly and helpful, and I didn't feel rushed through the appointment. I was immediately comfortable with Dr. Boyd, and it's clear that she's very competent, cares about her patients, and does an amazing job with even the little ones (baby and toddler). When I confessed to not changing my contacts as frequently as I should, Dr. Boyd didn't use scare tactics, but took the time to explain why it's so important. She answered my questions (and follow-up questions) clearly, and struck a perfect balance of not dumbing down the explanations, but not using so much industry terminology that I didn't understand. I understand more about my eyes and their quirks than I ever have before. I also appreciated the updated exam methods--Dr. Boyd's office uses retinal imaging to take a picture of the back of your eye (mapping blood vessels, etc.) instead of using dilation drops. As someone whose eyes are already relatively light-sensitive, it was wonderful not to have to deal with dilated eyes for hours after my appointment! The office has one of the best selection of frames in the area, and the staff does an awesome job at helping choosing frames that look good and fit well--this is your new face, after all! After the appointment, I have comfortable contacts that will be better for the health of my eyes, and a new doctor that I intend to keep, even if she's a little out of the way! read more

Dr. Patten has been my Optometrist for 30+ years. He and his staff are amazing. About 5 years ago Dr Patten found a 'floater' in my eye during my routine exam. He then took a photo of this little speck. Honestly, I don't know how he found it. It's surely smaller than the point of a straight pin! This office is amazing! read more

I was a patient of Dr. Patten's for more than 20 years ... now Dr. Boyd. As a matter of human nature, we may resist change but Dr. Boyd and the entire staff are knowledgeable, well versed in everything eyes and so pleasant. Customer service is as good as it can get! The office is current with regard to testing and they get you in and out without making you feel like they are in a hurry. read more

I rarely, if ever, leave reviews but this place was so great - I had to leave one! The Doctor and his entire staff were very knowledgeable, friendly, patient with all my questions about contacts and search for my glasses. The exam was very thorough - the image/mapping of my eye was a really cool bonus! An all around wonderful experience! Highly recommend!!! read more
