I later saw an independent optometrist who confirmed the prescriptions and measurements from this office were not accurate. Despite clear documentation and multiple attempts to resolve the issue, I was only given a partial refund. There was no real follow-up, no accountability, and no meaningful effort to fix the remaining problems. Instead, I continued receiving automated "your glasses are ready" texts long after the issues were known. For the cost involved, basic accuracy and professionalism should not be optional. You receive a friendly greeting as you enter and it only gets better from there. They are attentive and really listen to their patients. My eye doctor, tech, and the woman who helped me with my glasses, were all extremely knowledgeable about what they were doing. Getting glasses was a great experience. She listened to what I was looking for and brought me several fabulous choices. She was patient as I figured out which pair I wanted, even as I took photos and sent them to my daughters for help. This place is not in customer service know that they have good selection. The doctor seems like a nice guy but he likes to talk about his kids all day long your appointment will take way longer than it needs to be. The front step is hidden mess some people are extremely confrontational and aggressive. You will not have a good experience or have an easy experience communicating with them here. Some of them seem like they may be burnt out and should probably get another career. You will end up saving yourself time and money going somewhere else. read more

I have been coming to this place for my contacts and glasses for years! I've been wearing glasses for about 20 years now.(ugh!) I think I may be ready for Lasik but I am still bound to the glasses and contacts for now. I give this place 5 stars because their service is really great. I have never waited a long time for my appointments, my prescription has been correct and I feel they have been honest and realistic with me. The best part is they don't do a puff/blow test here to measure the pressure of your eye! YAY!. If you have ever had it somewhere else- you know what I am talking about! Recently, I brought my 4 year old daughter here to get her first eye exam. They treated her very well and made her feel comfortable and confident. We found a pair of glasses for her and we told them about needing a cute economic pair. We walked out with her glasses and paid about $140 for her exam, frames and glasses, I was a happy mom and my daughter was sooooo excited about her new glasses. I use daily disposable contacts and I finally found what I needed here. It is tempting to go to those "cheaper places" for contacts and lenses but the care and service I get here is worth it, and I have never had any problems. My husband and I went to Stanislaus vision associates a few months ago in October 2020 and needless to say I won't be returning or referring. All the stuff we dealt with was unpleasant. Seemed like we were bothering them because they had to help us. We weren't allowed to look at glasses, they would bring you what they thought. I didn't like that one bit. And when they didn't want to bring more choices they would tell you that's all we have. I don't even wear my near glasses because I felt rushed to get them and dislike them. Also instead of sitting my husband and I together to pick out glasses together and give each other our opinions; they sat us at different tables were we had to talk across the room. And they can't blame it on covid because other customers they were really friendly with and they were at the same table together. Customer service definitely didn't seem like a priority. read more

I was very hesitant to go here for my wife's glasses, but Costco had closed its vision care temporarily and my wife was in need of glasses. Our good friend recommended this place to us, so we took his advice. He's not as good a friend as he used to be!! First off, we got there early to avoid the heat, but could not go inside until our appointment time. Thank God the A/C worked. Finally went in, nice greeting, and waited for a very short time and went in to have my wife's eyes checked. Professional Optometrist, the wall is littered with his accomplishments! After the eye exam we went in to get her glasses. Our sales rep was nice and efficient, but the selection was not what either of us expected. My wife did find some styles she liked, but as I walked over to the case to retrieve other glasses, another sales rep, tall--black glasses--black hair--and a nasty attitude, told me to go back to the table and she would bring the styles to me. I was not to touch them!! Excuse the ---- out of me! I was pissed, yes, but decided to bite my lip since my wife was not the receipient of "Bobby, go sit down or I'll spank you" routine from this witch. Long story short, we got the ones she wanted, pricey yes, not a Costco store by any means. But they are nice, and more important, my wife was happy with the selection. However, because of the skimpy selection, poor customer relations by this one person, and current selection process, I am NOT recommending this place to anyone until it changes. I would just like to thank Dr. Nuncio for convincing me AND my husband to go with progressive lenses because we were both hesitant. It's so liberating to not have to keep taking off my glasses to read a menu, or write a review! His staff is very well trained and remember our names even though we see them once a year - and that speaks volumes. They have first class measuring tools, and a fantastic selection of eye ware. I think this place has 3 optometrist, one was awkward, older dude. He rushed me and it seemed like he got annoyed when I asked him to flip back to the other lenses while getting my eyes check. 1 or 2, 1 or 2 ... you only go once or maybe even twice a year right, you want someone to be patient and willing to work with you, Medina* is your man. It's 93 degrees outside and they told me we wouldn't be served if I didn't stand outside. This business has 10 employees in the same room all within 6 feet of each other, but I was forced outside. My boyfriend got something in his eye and I called around all Modesto to find a place that could see him as a New patient at the end of the day, the day before Christmas. Not only were they able to see him but the cost was only 30$ to remove the foreign body from under his eye lid and they even placed a contact in his eye so he could still go to work with the awful corneal abrasion. I just got my first pair of glasses in my mid 20s. I was referred here by my mother, who dumped Pearle vision and Lenscrafters to come here. The service is outstanding! The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and down-to-earth. The selection is almost overwhelming. They are also quick to refer you to another doc if need be (when I suddenly lost vision in one eye, they got me to a great retina specialist within the hour. Try gettting your primary practitioner to do that.) A little pricey (maybe all eye docs are- I'm not sure b/c this is my first experience), but worth it. read more

I have been coming to Dr. Whatcott to have my eyes checked for new glasses for many years. I was always treated in a professional manner, and had no problems with new prescriptions. I only give a one star rating (for past performance) because this time my new glassed distort the shape of objects. This has never happened before. I have 4 old pairs of glasses and none of them have this distortion! When I complained, more than once, they finally made an appointment for me to see Dr. Whatcott. It was supposed to for me to tell him about the distortion and what could be done about it. When I got there, a woman took me into a room to test my glasses, then I went in to see Dr. Whatcott. He was extremely rude. He insisted on retesting my eyes. I tried to tell him about the distortion but he held up his hand and said "stop". He repeatedly stopped me from say what was wrong with the glasses. I started to ask him if his lab could have made a mistake, but, again he held up his hand and said "no", we will not go there. He was repeatedly rude and would not have the glasses corrected, or even listen to what was wrong with them! He just said "We're Finished". Bait and Switch ... I did my homework by contacting my insurance company and going to this in-network provider for a new contact prescription. When I made my appointment I was vary clear as to what I wanted. When I showed up I was again very clear and "Angie" at the front desk was very clear as to making sure that my visit was covered by my insurance. They took me into a pre-exam process, finishing with "we are ready for the doctor, just sign here" which was authorization for them to charge me an ADDITIONAL amount for a contact prescription to which I made it clear (again and now the 3rd time) that I was quoted an amount and would not sign this document. The doctor - Whatcott, came and got me for the balance of the exam. At the end he asked me what I wanted to do and I repeated that I came to get a contact lens prescription to which he said there would be an additional charge and when I drilled through my steps regarding knowing my costs in advance he became border-line hostile; i.e. rude and making sure I knew that he knew that no matter where I went I would be faced with an extra cost. He would not let me complete my point that I had been given my cost. He agressively walked me to the check out counter, telling his staff to deal with me and with an attitude that was clearly telling me how wrong I was and that in his 36-years I am the first person to raise the issue; hard to believe. His lead staff person at least made me feel like she cared. I have filed a complaint with my insurance company and the California Medical Board. The money is minor, and I would have probably paid it if it had been explained to me in detail and / or he hadn't taken an attitude but the treatment is not acceptable. With all of the forms and disclaimers that doctors have you sign I have to assume this is a common issue especially when I made if very clear that I wanted NO surprises as to my cost. I have been wearing contacts for almost 40-years and have never been treated this way; the lack of respect that was due. This doctor is classified as a professional and should be held accountable to higher standards than a used car sales person. By the way, his hostility seem to rise when I was clear that I was looking for a prescription ONLY as he eluded to me buying contacts from his office. Point of reference, I was planning to buy the first batch from his office but only if all went as planned. This doctor may be good at what he does - I have to trust, but each year I get an exam and this is the ONLY time that I have been treated with lacking professionalism. Maybe he has been working too long and needs a reasonable amount of time away from his practice to re-gathers his thinking and improved treatment of a customer. read more
