I have to start out saying that my insurance is good not great. The doctor is very thorough but I felt like he was trying to up-sell me through out the appointment ( extra glasses for computer, $45 glaucoma check,...). Along the way he asked if I wanted scratch proof lenses, photochromic lenses, .... I said yes because my insurance covered it. I got to the frame selection counter and I told the tech to show me only frames my plan would pay for. I picked a basic frame and the total came to $507! I couldn't believe it. I told them to give me my prescription and I would go to Costco. Then another tech took over and took the extra premium charges that my insurance would not pay for off and replaced them with the level of upgrades that were covered. I paid $102. The doctor is fine but be wary of how they add on non covered charges. I probably won't return because of sales pressure. Who needs that? read more

I have been with Dr. Mohawk's office for the past seven years and due to having to reschedule appointments. Where I was informed as long as I rescheduled within 24 hrs I would be fine. They now will no longer see me or my children not only have they previously provided an invoice were they were trying to charge me twice but the staff there is very rude, unethical, and incompetent. I was scheduled an appointment yesterday and when I called to confirm, I was told that I was never scheduled and based on there call logs I never called. I requested to speak to the office manager and/or Dr. Mihok and received a call from their receptionist Yvonne who stated she was the manager and was of no help. Their unprofessionalism has lead me to now transfer my family's records elsewhere. Such a disappointment after 7 years to be treated so poorly! Sad to see decent doctors with such incompetent and untrustworthy staff!!! I do NOT recommend this optometrist! read more

I like the Dr., but they have a real problem getting a pair of glasses to fit. I'd say I don't like the way they fit and they'd say, just try them for a few days. They were too small and had to order longer stems. One time they fell off my face while cleaning the stairs and I stepped on the stem and broke the end off. They DID repair it... With 1 stem that was too short. They couldn't make them fit. It took 7 attempts before they gave me a different frame. One time when I was there waiting my turn, another woman was waiting as well. I told her I was in for my 5th attempt at getting my glasses adjusted. She nodded and said, 2nd time. I bought a couple stick-on anti-slip pads for the nose pcs. because the glasses kept sliding down my nose. They do now fit. Also, I'm not impressed with his new camera for looking into the eye. This new machine is supposed to get a wider view. It did not notice a small blind spot called macular degeneration that doesn't grow and has been there for 30 + years. Probably all my life. Told him about it but I assured him I was fine with it and didn't need to go to a specialist. The new machine costs extra. I'd get them both. I'm looking for someone else and asking if they have this wide view lens. read more

The search for an optometrist began when our insurance was changed. My wife wanted to stay local and not have to go far to neighboring cities. Thank god we did! While searching online we found a few optometrists with pretty good to fairly good reviews - Family Vision Care being right there split down the middle with very good reviews, fair reviews and one or two bad ones from what I recall. Now, me personally I don't tend to be so harsh when it comes to bad reviews because I understand that not everyone gets along or will have the same expectation as the next person. What I can consider a nice Dr. visit or treatment equal to a nice positive review or a 5 star review or feedback may be your worse experience ever or a negative review or a star review or feedback. So I don't pay too close attention to that and rather I prefer to experience that for myself. We can always change Dr's right? Well I found a few in Oakdale but it came down to how close we wanted to be from our home. And since we are already patients at Oakdale kids we wanted to stay in that vicinity. We chose Family Vision on California accross from the Post office. It's very convenient and not to mention the staff is incredible courteous and nice! Let's start with the first phone call placed to the office, Angelica was so nice as she received my insurance information and scheduled my wife's appointment. I did everything for my wife since she was at work and couldn't do it herself. Then appointment day comes and although we didn't see or get to meet Angelica in person, we were greeted and helped by Rocio, she was very pleasant and nice to deal with. She is also bilingual and fluent in Spanish. That was great for my wife since she is from Venezuela. She gave my wife her first eye exams and took a few pictures of her eyes and gave us alot of info. After the initial exams she asked us to wait back in the waiting room while she gave the Dr the info. After a very short while we were called back in by Rocio and met Dr. Winnick. Very nice and pleasant Dr. Even cracked a couple jokes. Very nice guy. He gave my wife alot of information and went over the results of the exams performed by Rocio earlier. He performed additional tests on my wife and concluded that in fact she needed glasses and a specific type. We loved that they are a one stop optometry office! When it came time to pick out glasses Rocio was there to help my wife. I gave my two cents as well. And we finally picked out a very nice pair of glasses. I didn't want my wife to look to old as some glasses can make you look older than you really are so we went for these very nice but still young-ish but mature pair. Very nice! We both loved them! Even Rocio liked the way they looked on my wife! Rocio went over the cost and broke it down for us which was cool. She told us everything that was covered by the insurance and what our out of pocket cost would be. Even though our out of pocket cost exceeded what we were ready to for at that moment the office provided a payment plan. We gave two thirds of the cost down to begin making the frame and glasses and we can give the rest prior to getting my wifes' glasses or upon arrival. We liked that they work with their patients. And the feeling was like walking to see an old friend. That was our experience and we are sticking with Dr. Winnick and his office and staff especially Rocio. So if you're looking for an optometry office that is also a one stop shop for your eye needs visit Dr. Winnick. We hope your experience is as nice as ours! read more

I have been seen by Dr. Mihok for many years. Every return visit feels like I'm going to see an old friend. His staff is very courteous as well as knowledgable. The selection of frames in his office is pretty broad for a small town like Oakdale. I was surprised at my last visit with a freshly remodeled office and some sort of new digital exam equipment. He has also added a new female doctor to his practice. She seemed very nice as well. All in all, I enjoy my regular yearly eye exams and talks with Tom. I highly recommend this office if you are looking for reputable service, vast knowledge of their profession and that small town feel. read more

Always willing to answer questions and follow up on things. They show honor in the time they spend with each person and kind in helping me each visit, especially when I am indecisive with choosing a new pair of glasses. The service I received was always mediocre until I found Dr. Tom. He has always taken great care of me and has always been caring and compassionate when I needed it. Dr Mihok had been my fathers optometrist for just about 30 years! And I purchased my first set of glasses and had my first eye exam (as an adult,) by Dr Mihok. We have been very satisfied with his practice, his caring, his staff, and lets not forget....... Dr. Mihok's sense of humor! A couple of years ago, my father was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. A very serious and blinding disease! Dr Mihok has been right there with my father through this scary journey, with check ups,. testing, and even went in on a sat for an appt. to accomodate my father!! When Dr. Mihok suggested that my father take supplements for his M.D,. I was sceptical, so I researched the supplements thoughouly as well as the price. What I found were the supplements that my father is taking are absolutely wonderful for the eyes, (can actually slow the process down of M.D. in some patients) and are also great for cardiovascular, kidney's, liver, and an over all well being of the mind and body. Dr Mihok does not put on any extra $$ for profit of the supplements either! ( He sells these products almost at cost. IF you purchase them online, you might actually pay more, because of shipping.) I think Dr Mihok is a very thourough optometrist and a very caring human being. He wants the very best, for his patients and actually listens to what they have to say, or questions they may have. Dr. Mihok and his staff are highly professional, kind and generous. I have known Dr. Mihok and his staff members on a personal and professional basis for over 20 years. We used to have private insurance. However, due to a medical disability, we have had to go on Medi-Cal. Dr. Mihok and his staff still treat us with dignity and caring. They have never made us feel bad about our situation, nor do they treat us any differently than before. My children have grown up being treated by this office. They are very comfortable going to their appointments and enjoy their visits. I wish all medical offices treated their patients as well as this office. It is also wonderful that Dr. Mihok donates so much of his time on mission trips providing optometric care to those who would not otherwise be able to see an optometrist. Dr. Mihok went beyond the call of duty. He saw my son recently and noticed a change in his prescription. Due to our family history of glaucoma, he looked at the back of the eye to make sure it wasn't due to this. He also talked in great detail about the care of contact lenses to our son. This guy is by far the worst OD I have ever been to. Treats medi-cal patients like garbage, talks down to you and is not compassionate at all. Does not work well with children and isn't very nice. RUN RUN far away from this practice as his assistant/ technician does not have people skills and is not friendly. The only friendly person I encountered was Evon the front desk lady. They should take some pointers from her. Will never return! There are better doctors to choose from in Oakdale and he isn't one. read more

Dr. Mihok is a wonderful doctor. He has been seeing me for over 10 years. I first met him when I took my grandma there for an appointment. Dr. Mihok and his staff were so friendly to my grandma that had dementia and I. So I decided to start seeing him. If it wasn't for him my glaucoma would of gone un notice. He helped connect me with a lasic surgeon and even observed the surgery. I don't have insurance, Medi-cal, etc., and therefore pay for my entire office visits which I find his prices very competitive.
