Walk the walk I was…read morequoted a price of "$30 - $40" for a tire swap on my truck. I took it in and was told the charge would be $55. I reminded DJ that I had been quoted $40 (the top of his range) on the phone. He wouldn't honor the price quoted. I told him I would take my business elsewhere and had it done at Les Schwab for $36. To clear up any misunderstanding I phoned back later and explained my reticence to pay 40% above his quoted price. DJ sarcastically apologized for "charging $5 over the quote". I reminded him that the quote was "$30 - $40". His response was "whatever!" and he reminded me that after he made the quote I had mentioned a higher bid I had gotten from a competitor. Then it clicked -- he had raised the price because he thought I was clueless and he could get it. It had nothing to do with their labor or costs but was purely opportunistic. A rip-off, in other words. Roseburg could use a good independent mechanic shop with high values. Unfortunately, HIS Automotive services is not that. Very disappointing. They know how to talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk.

Pulled into Myrtle Creek looking for a shop. We pulled up in front of Tune Up Center and met Brian. Although all of his bays had cars in them, he saw that we were in need and he pulled out the equipment and tested the alternator to find it putting out no voltage. With a phone call he had the new part ordered and delivered. We walked across the street to Tommy's Burgers (a separate but equally glowing review) and had one of the best burgers we've had in recent memory. No sooner had we finished our lunch we saw our truck out front of the shop. Within an hour of stopping, we were back on the road, heading to the next destination that day. I hope you don't break down with car trouble on the road, but if you do, I do hope it's somewhere near Tune Up Center in Myrtle Creek, OR. Brian treated us fairly, did a great job and saved the day!
