It was also stalling when idling. We left a message at the shop on Sunday and got a call back first thing Monday morning from Gordy. The shop wasn't technically open Monday because they were to be closed for the holiday that day, too, but Gordy was in anyhow. He had us come in so that he could take a look at our vehicle and take it for a test drive. We originally thought we'd have to have the trans rebuilt, but after Gordy inspected and drove it, he thought the only thing wrong was the transmission cooling lines. He said he couldn't be 100% sure about that until he got into it, but he assured us that even if they did have to rebuild the trans, they would be done in time for us to head home Friday as planned. They had the truck done and ready for us to pick up on Thursday. Gordy's feeling that it was the lines and not the trans itself was right. They also found that the fuel filter was clogged, which was causing the stalling, and they replaced that as well. All was good with the truck to take us back home to Ohio. When we first got there, I was a bit apprehensive about having them work on our truck because of the shop's appearance. Let's just say it's not a chain repair shop, and it has a very "homey" feel! But Gordy and Bill were straightforward and down to earth, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. When we dropped the truck off, we chatted with Gordy for quite some time. (Our ride took a while to get there, so Gordy even offered take us where we needed to go.) During our conversation, we learned that Bill has had that shop for 40-some years and Gordy has worked with him for many of those, so these guys have a lot of experience. Plus, when we picked up the truck, Bill offered our dog a biscuit, so a couple more points there!

He was kind enough get me right in and found that it wasn't transmission fluid at all, but coolant leaking from a cracked plastic Tee in the heater hose. He went out of his way to diagnose and repair my car and had me back on the road in no time. He said he knows how it is to be on vacation, have your car break down in a place with which you're not familiar or know who to trust. I really appreciated it.

Junior picked up my 2014 GMC Sierra on May 2nd, 2024, for transmission repairs. Jr. picked from my…read moreDad's shop locally in Cheboygan, and I provided a $2,000 deposit in the form of a cashier's check. He said my truck will be done in a couple weeks. That was not the case. However, Jr. consistently provided excuses and runarounds, delaying completion. Despite numerous attempts to contact him, I had to reach out to the building owner to get his attention. On June 24th, 2024, Jr. informed me that the truck was ready, but upon pickup, he requested an additional $1,000. Which I reluctantly paid, but soon discovered the transmission was malfunctioning and didn't have 5th or 6th gear nor over drive. After dropping off the rental car the same day I picked my truck up, I had returned the truck agian to Jr. on June 25th for re-repair as the trans was over heating. He said he'll get it fixed and need programming. Ontop of that, the trans was leaking trans fluid. Following continued delays and unreturned calls, I finally received the truck back on September 11th, only to experience another breakdown, trans over heated past 290 degrees and I lost all gears and reverse, i had my children with me, they were terrified. Jr. promised to rectify the issues but failed to deliver. I've lost significant time and finances due to Jr.'s incompetence, spending over $3,900 on rental vehicles. I've requested my truck to be towed to Main Street Tire and Brake for proper repairs with my $3,000 in cash as deposit to Main Street and Junior has yet to follow through. Due to Superior Transmission's failure to deliver, I'm pursuing legal action against Junior and Superior Transmission. Please stay away from this business.

D&W used to service transmissions for a small mechanic shop I worked at in Leelanau county, so I've seen them do over 40 transmissions in my short time as a mechanic. We never had a problem with any of their work! Not a single tranny, and I'd be willing to bet that's the norm for Wayne and the D&W crew. So now, when the trans in my plow truck finally had had enough, I confidently took it to D&W. Wayne took me for a diagnostic cruise in my truck so he could explain what was happening and what would have to be done for repairs. It's great that he took the time to help me understand how and why! I do most repairs on my vehicles, but transmissions are over my head, can't thank you enough D&W!!

They replaced the spark plugs, but during that process they damaged the valve covers. About 10 months later, the damage led to an oil leak. I had my trusted mechanic downstate look at it, and he told me the valve covers had clearly been damaged during that original service and recommended I request a refund. April 2026: I returned to the shop and showed the owner, Diana, the faulty parts. At that time, she acknowledged the issue and said she believed we deserved some money back for the mistake. May 2026: When we followed up, we spoke with Pat (the owner), and the conversation went completely differently. Pat immediately became confrontational and started yelling, saying he "don't give refund checks." Instead, he expected us to drive the truck 250 miles--while it's leaking oil--so he could fix the problem he created himself. The attitude and lack of professionalism were honestly shocking. Mistakes can happen, but how a business handles them matters. Between the poor workmanship and the way we were treated afterward, I would not recommend this shop.

An hour before he's supposed to be there he texts that his daughter is sick & he is starting to feel sick too & he will get a hold of me when he figures out his schedule. 3 days goes by with nothing, I text him finally to find out what's going on & that I'm probably going to have to find a real mechanic to do the work & he says he won't be able to work on my car because life overwhelmed him this past week/weekend. We called many places and everyone was closing at noon and couldn't help. We finally found N&J and when we called Norm answered, heard our issue and said he could fix it that day assuming it wasn't something beyond the brake line. It was towed to them using our AAA program and between Norm and Joey they quickly started on the issue for us. After replacing the line, bleeding the brakes (sorry Norm, I know on my Chevy that is a pain....) and 2.5 hours later I was on my way. $312 was one heck of a value for out of towners desperate to continue on to our final vacation destination in the U.P. Reading the negative reviews I have to wonder if those people really appreciate being helped in the worst of situations. This shop and specifically Norm and Joey were outstanding, friendly and very kind. Labor rates are determined by looking them up in a book. You can't miss it by 40%. I was also grossly overcharged for a 10 mile tow ($250). They saw the out of state plate and took full advantage. I am writing to the state attorney general to have them look into their records for similar rip offs of out of state vehicles.
