Probably the best service station I've ever been to. Shop is super clean and they have a waiting area where you can sit and enjoy coffee while your car is serviced. Conventional oil changes start at $35.99 and include a bevy of more service than your standard oil change. They check and top off all the fluids, check lights, tires, and even vacuum your floors. When you're all said and done, there is a free car wash to boot. Staff is incredibly helpful and don't really try to sell you too many extras like other shops. Air filter was definitely bad but the attendant said it wasn't "pressing." I decided to change the filter anyways. Will definitely return. read more

This place always has a line: a bit tell on how well loved it is locally. My sister recommended it, as a local. I had a bunch of questions, as an out-of-towner who was having some car trouble; the Front Desk Guy was super helpful. Waited for s/thing like an hour at least - they were short staffed. Very happy with my oil change. ONLY prob: they seem to have disconnected my wiper fluid tube, and I had to pay another mechanic to reattach it. If I'd been A Local, I'd have just taken it back and requested replair, but it took me a few days to realize & by that time I was already getting other work done. I have been getting my oil changed at this business for many years. Yesterday, I went about 5:00pm and there were about 9 cars ahead of me. I was exhausted from my shift at Munson and it was hot sitting in my car. As I watched each car pull up to get service I noticed everyone in the garage being helpful and giving the best customer service possible. Mind you its almost closing time for the workers. Northwest Oil Express completely scammed me. Do not fall for any extras (besides your typical oil change) with this business. I bought wiper blades because I needed them and they charged me $50... for wiper blades for my small car that I could get for $20 elsewhere. On top of that, they charged me double so $100 for wiper blades. $155 for an oil change and a very basic new wiper blades. It was my first visit - me being new to town and i will not be back. Ridiculous. They were so quick and didn't do all the checks that I'm used to getting while getting my oil changed ... no one ever went under my vehicle to check anything... no vaccum like other reviews mentioned. I wasn't asked what kind of oil I'd prefer. I've never had an oil change place so blatantly try to take advantage that I'm a woman and "don't know better". I am so glad I did, because when they saw the so few miles Ihad driven since my last change they said I didn't need an oil change, that I had still had six thousand miles left on my last change. I so appreciate their honesty for they could have told me that oil breaks down and no matter how many miles you drive you still need to get an oil change every 6-12 months. Vacuuming the car is a really nice extra, at no charge. Local business makes it even better, just three locations: two in Traverse City and one in the upper peninsula. Just FYI, in Traverse City, tire rotations only available only at Bay Shore location. This might be temporary, but could be permanent. Really can't say enough good things about this business. I had such a great experience here. They were very attentive and even checked my differential oil to see if it needed changed out. They topped all my fluids and I added on a headlight restoration. This was more than I was used to spending, but I left feeling like they had really gone through all of the fluids on the car and did not try to upsell me on anything. Always fast service as a drive up and no appointment needed. Which is great when you have 3 kids in the vehicle. Bathroom just in case your kids need to go. I didn't ask for or show any military ID, yet he noticed my USAA debit card and asked me about my service, and gave me a military discount! Stopped by for an oil change for a used car I had just bought. Popped the hood open a week later to wash the engine and found the dip stick on the cowl and a oil filter socket wrench on the shock tower. Wander if the oil and filter actually got changed? Pretty straight forward quick oil change place that offer a surprising amount of extra services. I read reviews before going and brought some aftermarket LED bulbs for my headlights and fogs. They did the oil change quickly, checked and topped fluids, checked the differential and everything checked out fine. Never tried to sell me anything I didn't want. They got the headlight bulbs in without a problem, turns out the fog lightbulbs didn't fit and they broke my oem right fog light bulb when putting them back in which kinda sucked. So minus a star for that. Overall, despite the broken bulb, I'd go back for sure. Prices are reasonable and service was pretty friendly. read more

We have been returning customers for oil changes to this location for many, many years ... but no longer. Today we got in line for an oil change. There are two service stations and two lines. Both service stations were occupied and had one vehicle waiting in line. We picked one that happened to be slower. Other cars arrived and lined up in the respective lines. After waiting for about 10 minutes or so, the car ahead of us finally moved along. We had other things to do in town, so we were happy to move along, knowing we would be next, Out of the blue, one of the managers/workers walked up to our car and told us that we needed to move our vehicle because the truck that was 2 cars back was there ahead of us and that this is a "first come first serve" operation. Hello? Is that not the point of a line? If a car was there ahead of us, surely they would not be behind us! They insisted that the "consensus" amongst the crew was that the other car *** IN A DIFFERENT LINE*** was ahead of us and that we needed to change lines so that they could go ahead of us. Seriously, who does that? We were clearly there first and this guy was pretty much calling us liars in an attempt to accommodate the driver of the truck in the back of the line. We chose to go somewhere else instead of dealing wit their random choice of who gets to be served next. There are too many other places to go to for an oil change without having to deal with this kind of BS. I suspect that perhaps it was a buddy that they wanted to get in ahead of everyone else, but this was completely unacceptable. After many years of supporting this business, we will now take our business elsewhere. We ended up going to JLube and got amazing, friendly service and a free coupon for a car wash.. Never going back. And you should think twice before supporting an operation that does business this way. read more

Clean place, nice guys, coffee, restroom, vacuumed my truck and cleaned the windows, filled all the fluids (save for brakes), greased fittings, set tire pressure AND gave me a free pass to the Boon Street Car Wash! Went in a few weeks ago for high mileage oil. There was a bit of a wait, but the change was around $43 AND they cleaned the car. Also super nice. Wow! I travel and get oil changes all over the US and I've never been compelled to write a review of one. Northwest Oil Express is so impressive, from the exemplary service to the cleanliness and waiting area replete with an array of snacks and coffee.While waiting, and watching the entire process, I had more than one staff member come over and give me a breakdown of issues, even showing me the very dirty air filter (which, sadly, they don't carry) and advising me to have it changed the next time I have my oil changed, wherever that may be. We had been on an extensive road trip that had spanned from Phoenix, AZ all the way to Traverse City, MI. We were getting ready to flip it and head home but thought it might be nice to get a quick oil change and check up on things. I'm so glad we stopped! The customer service by everyone on staff was on point. They were all friendly and helpful. They gave us options for synthetic oil and found two bulbs out that needed replacing before our long haul home. We got a free car wash and vacuum as well as all the usual maintenance checks. They advised us that a new air filter was needed but they didn't have one in stock. We grabbed one and installed it at their suggestion. Fast, efficient, polite, inexpensive. I picked NOE based on these Yelp reviews and am really glad I did. I'm not from the area so was shooting in the dark, but the guys took great care of me. I was second in line and didn't even get through the email on my phone before I was in the bay. They explained everything, didn't try any of the usual ridiculous add-ons ("would you like a wallet flush today?") and had me back on the road in 10-15 minutes. I even got a free car-wash coupon. I have been driving for 30 years and this was, by far, the best oil change I experienced. I interacted with three male employees and each one was professional, polite, and maintained eye contact. For some reason, the last attribute doesn't seem common much anymore so it was nice to experience someone asking questions and listening to the answers without looking at something else like a phone. The shop was clean and the prices fair. They did a few things I haven't experienced with an oil change, and it was really nice. They washed the outside of the vehicle's windows, offered to vacuum the front area of the vehicle (I declined as it didn't need it), and asked me what mileage interval I prefer on the reminder sticker.(!) Everywhere else automatically puts it at 3,000 miles, whereas I do my oil changes at 5,000 miles. I can actually use the reminder sticker for the first time; normally I peel it off as I'm leaving the establishment. I cannot rave about Northwest Oil Express enough, especially as a female customer. They didn't try to sell me anything, knew what they were doing, and honored my requests without question (I take care of my air pressure and air filter checks).
