My lovely bride stopped by for a late lunch on the Friday of Labor Day weekend. We definitely recommend grabbing a table on the deck overlooking Kingsley Creek if the weather is cooperating. It's always a good sign when locals pull up to the restaurant on their boats. We ordered the peel-n-eat shrimp, which is served with a decent cocktail sauce but it needs to be revved up with a splash of Tabasco. We also ordered the crab dip, which was wonderful, served with their own dirty potato chips. Lastly, we recommend the homemade key lime pie, it's the real thing. I am very understanding of long wait times due to short staffed, however, after waiting your turn I expect better than this. My wife ordered the $14 chicken tender meal and this is what she got. I talked to the server who then talked to the manager which I never do but the amount of tenders for the money seemed unbelievable. Well instead of trying to make it right to keep the customer happy we were told this was indeed their chicken tenders. Save your money. My friend and I went to celebrate and we were excited. We saw tables available on the patio outside so we went and sat. It was hot, we were sweating like crazy but happy to be there. After a long few minutes, a waitress told us the table we choose was already spoken for but we could sit at any of the others that were open. We moved no problem. After another long few mins another waitress finally shows up to get our drink order. people around us were being waited on but we couldn't get the attention of any of them. We make our decision on the food we wanted and she hasn't come back with our drinks. After a good ten minutes we went to find the waitress and ask where was our drinks were. her response was appalling. She was told by her MANAGER not to serve us, something about a table. We absolutely could not believe what she said. I was floored then livid. I went inside to speak with someone and all she did was ask me if I checked in with the host when I arrived. I said no, we went straight outside and sat at one of the plenty open tables. She said well that is policy to check in. I told her that the waitress who had us change tables could have said that 30 minutes ago! She felt pretty justified. We felt so disrespected by their actions! I have never been treated that way at a business that depends on the public for money before. the tab for the two of us would have been a good $200.00 but they will never get another penny from this local girl!! I really tried to like this place. First time I ate there my peel & eat shrimp fell apart like sawdust when trying to eat them. The second time my shrimp smelled like ammonia. Waitress never said a word as she cleared the table and asked if we wanted them boxed to go and I said no. Apparently it's normal to take a 1/2 pound of shrimp off the table and throw them out. We started with the beat salad with shallot vinaigrette which was delicious. Both the scallop entree and the Thai shrimp were very good. BEWARE 48$ platter for two is now a 48$ fish basket for one. I've gone to Down Under about 5 times over this past year. It's usually our go to place for Family get togethers & special occasions. The first two times were great but each time after that the portions got SMALLER & SMALLER! I order the platter for two every time I go, my wife & I used to be able to share it & even share some with our 5 year olds. When I received my platter this time it looked like a platter for one, they "forgot" my oysters and I got two Tiny square pieces of fish. Not two fillets, just two pieces of a fillet. I highly recommend this place. It was not super easy to find at night, but as long as you have navigation or maps on your phone you can find it. Once you do, the food is amazing. I had never had Kingklip before, but the way they prepared it (blackened with lemon butter) was ridiculously good. I can't put in words how much I enjoyed it. My wife enjoyed her meal as well. So tonight it was another excursion to a local recommendation for seafood. Going to Down Under restaurant really means under the bridge which leads to the Amelia Island area. You turn off A1A on to a dirt road eventually passing the VFW and like a beacon there is this massive restaurant next to the water hidden from view. A hidden gem so we found out tonight. As with most seafood by the water the dining was casual and there was a fish tank inside with some lovely colorful fish. A cozy bar was in front of the restaurant surrounded by lots of dining areas. There is also an outside area and tiki bar which I am sure is a hopping spot during the summer. Tonight we ordered quickly as we pretty much focused in on the fish and chips and the local shrimp. Our waitress was very attentive and our meal was delivered to us within a reasonable time frame. G received 5 large pieces of fish and a huge amount of fries. My shrimp were definitively local and fresh and battered in a very unique seasoning. I even tried to get the manager to divulge the ingredients to no avail. The waitress tried to convince us that we needed dessert, but nobody does Key Lime Pie like this dive we know in the upper Keys so we passed on the Pie. I will say we had a hard time finding this location the gps stops you right in the middle of bridge which it is right under the bridge but we did find it. There was a sign that said seat yourself so we sat outside on the dock seating. We had a really nice waitress Debbie and she had an assistant but I'm not sure what his name was. Right away Debbie noticed our daughter wasn't feeling good and she offered to get her some crackers and sprite. All the food was delicious but The crab cakes and chips I ordered they had no flavor at all. The Shrimp was crispy and delicious. This place cannot handle any type of food rush. Three orders of the fish and chips came out over cooked and burnt. Our crab cakes never came and one of the cocktails we ordered never came as well. We came at 1:30pm on Saturday, New Year's Day, and we were able to self-seat on the back deck immediately. We chose to order our entrees off the happy hour menu, which ran until 5pm every day. My mom and I both ordered shrimp entrees, which were only $11 with a side--insanely cheap for the quality. I ordered the Thai shrimp and couldn't shut up about how good they were. We also shared the blue chippers (blue cheese chips) as an appetizer, which were also awesome--I'd never say something had too much blue cheese, but they sure were *generous*. Have eaten here many times! Is a very good place to go,very scenic and overall service very friendly. Reason I only gave it three stars is because they're inconsistent with their food. Some days it's the best food you ever eat and sometimes the worst food you've ever eaten, but the price is still the same. It's a bit pricey when you consider you may have a 50% chance of getting a badly cooked meal. I would recommend going there. read more

I have heard of this place for about 15 years when I was a delivery driver in the area but never had the chance to stop. Tonight I told my wife I wanted to go somewhere different so we headed to the Down Under. I was under the impression that this was kind of an upscale place but it was quite the contrary. Jeans or shorts and a t shirt are just fine here. It is more of a fish camp atmosphere. You can eat inside or out on the water. I don't like to eat outside because of flying insects in Florida. The server was very helpful. She gave us all the specials and particularly recommended the Garlic seared scallops which we both decided on. Scallops were cooked perfectly, seasoned well but the seasoning complimented rather than overpowered. I think I would have liked a few more but certainly got enough for the price, I just like to eat a lot so more would have been better for me. We had the southern style green beans, these are basically green beans with bacon. Nothing special about these but they were fine. I wanted a salad to we ordered a grilled Caesar salad. When I saw this I thought there must be grilled chicken on it. Boy was I wrong, the salad was whole leaves of Romaine cooked until the stems were tender but still crispy. It had cheese on it and maybe bacon, whatever it was it was fantastic. This was maybe the part of the meal I enjoyed most just for the uniqueness. For starters we had the fried Lobster bites and the seared Ahi Tuna. The lobster was served with raspberry soy sauce and remoulade sauce. I am not a huge fan of fried lobster but she is. I did try it with both sauces and really liked the sweet and tangy flavor of the soy. The seared tuna was also very good. Tuna is often prepared in advance and served cold. This was obviously seared to order. The center of the flesh was red and cold but the seared edges were warm. This made for a pleasant combination. If I had a complaint it would be that the desserts were very small. We had the Key lime pie and caramel apple bread pudding. Both were very good but comparing price to size I would not have dessert there again. The server made this experience. She was honest about her opinions, she had not tried a few items and was not afraid to tell us that, she was attentive to our needs and had our best interest at heart. Our meals came with 1 side. Individually the green beans were $4 and the salad was $5. She intentionally made our salads the side and added the beans so our price was lower. Of course it was only $2 but we rolled that right into her tip. We will definitely be back. read more

It's a casual atmosphere with good food. We have eaten here a few times and the quality of the food is consistent. The only thing that I would like to request is adding more non seafood options for the ones who do not eat seafood. All in all, definitely worth stopping here while on the island.
