Touted as one of a few local restaurants serving fresh locally caught shrimp, I made sure to order shrimp for my lunch, specifically the Baja Box with fried shrimp. My wife, who was jonesing for clam strips for some reason, decided to order fried clam strips even though I cautioned her they're not known for clams AND we'll be making a separate trip to Cedar Key (clam capital) sometime soon. Anyway, my dish was good. The shrimp were well prepared, tender and not rubbery with crispy breading that wasn't too greasy. The cilantro ranch dipping sauce was a good compliment. My wife liked her clam strips even though some pieces were a bit chewy. The batter was nice and crispy and didn't seem greasy but she thought it had too many little pieces. The wait staff here was super friendly and pricing is very reasonable for the type of food and town. Food came out very quickly and the whole place seemed pretty clean. We visited the area over the weekend and happily came across this little "shack". It's counter service and seating is outdoor picnic tables. While the space is cute and the weather was ideal, I can see where this would be inconvenient in the heat of the summer or rainy days. We came about 15 minutes before closing because friends were there and wanted us to come. It was very cold out and I didn't want to be "that person" taking too long to order right before closing, so I asked how the New England clam chowder was, and I was told "very good" by the girl behind the counter, so I went for a bowl. My husband ordered the fried shrimp basket. I was disappointed they put my soup in a paper cup and put it on the tray while my husband's food was cooking. I also didn't realize it was outside seating only. My disappointment continued when I took off the lid of my now cooling soup and could see visually it was not remotely New England style clam chowder, but didn't even have a chowder consistency. I just decided to just eat it anyway and was shocked how tasty it was! I ate every last drop enjoying every bite! No, it didn't taste like New England clam chowder either, but there was a lot of fresh clam in it and none were chewy. It was an extremely tasty clam soup, for sure! My husband's shrimp basket looked liked really nice sized shrimp, perfectly done. I didn't try them, but he said they were fresh and delicious. The food here is so good! I got the fresh catch of the day, which was drum fish. It was so light and flaky. Delicious! The line was really long, but the service is fast and efficient. Fernandina Beach has a hidden gem, Timoti Seafood Shack. They have crowds of hungry patrons, covered outdoor bench seating and some of the most delicious seafood in the area. Timoti is casual, a personable staff and one of my top three dining favorites on Amelia Island. We had explored the food scene prior to our trip but always verify with locals. Even though they are small in size, they compensate with excellent food. Timoti was perfect for lunch and set the bar very high. We ordered the blackened shrimp and fries, and twin lobster rolls. The blackened shrimp were stacked with flavor, perfectly cooked and only left me wanting more. The twin lobster rolls were over-flowing with fresh / sweet lobster, minimal filler and a great roll with a slight crunch. As good as these two dishes were, the fries need an honorable mention. They were crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. There are no weak links at Timoti Seafood Shack. If you want really great seafood packed with flavor, Timoti Seafood Shack needs to be on your bucket list. My only suggestion is to order two orders because one is just not enough.
