It is our first time here. And wow.... What an amazingly delicious meal!! Our friends had been before and wanted us to try this. And I'm glad we did. What great portion sizes! The hostess was not very welcoming and was kind of rude when we walked up to the hostess stand. But that was the only negative comment I have. The server was very nice and made sure we always had everything we needed. Our food portions were so worth the price. We had the small portion of the Spicy Thai Noodles. Those noodles were so good, I want that as an entree with chicken next time. I tried the Calypso Chicken Sandwich. Oh man... what a sandwich this was!! Piled high and everything was so fresh! I visited Café Karibo on Amelia Island with a close friend and ordered the Veggie Wrap, and wow ...it exceeded every expectation. The combination of hummus, tomato pesto, roasted red peppers, seared tofu, carrots, onions, cucumbers, Baja black beans, baby greens, and feta in a spinach wrap was so balanced and fresh. It was incredible that I didn't even need the dressing it came with. Everything was compact, flavorful, and not soggy at all , honestly one of the best veggie wraps I've had in a long time. I subbed the side it normally comes with, and while I do wish there wasn't an upcharge (especially since many people, like me, can't have potato salad due to dietary needs), the sweet potato fries were worth it. They came out crispy, delicious, and paired perfectly with the honey mustard. Overall, a beautiful meal with fresh ingredients and great execution. It was our first night in Fernandina Beach and my wife and I were looking for a light dinner within walking distance from our hotel. Cafe Karibo had good reviews so off we walked. Cafe Karibo had a nice and inviting courtyard entry. It was a bit windy outside so we opted for dining inside. Upon checking out the menu, we were deciding between Thai Spring Rolls and Grilled Flatbread Pizza to share. We eventually chose the flatbread. My wife also ordered a Brazilian Rum Punch. The flatbread had good flavors BUT the crust was too hard/crispy for my liking. The rum punch was good...perhaps too good as it is one of those drinks that could creep up on you. My wife also decided to try out their key lime pie. The pie was decent but was too sweet for us and the custard was a bit airier than we prefer. Such a relaxing spot here at Cafe Karibo and went for the outside seating as this weather has been good so far this December. Next week I beard there will be a freeze warning! We enjoyed a baby spinach and kale salad, a curried chicken salad wrap, our famous veggie burger and a turkey Cuban. We all enjoyed our food. The veggie burger bun was too large to eat all at once. Okay, okay.. this restaurant has been highly recommended by all my friends who live in Fernandina so I tried it initially and was somewhat disappointed. I decided to give it another shot but unfortunately it was during the shrimp festival. I'm gluten free and there was a pre-made menu which was fine. But they wouldn't make any substitutions so my only choice was a salad. The salad was fine. My friend got the fried fish and initially I looked wonderful but it was so thin that there was almost no fish and it was all breading. It was also really dry of course and it was served Very Room temperature. The place was not packed at all so I'm really surprised. When I mentioned this to the waitress she did not want to make any accommodations to replace it nor remove it from the check. My salad was just adequate and substantial for a lunch. I've heard they have amazing food but apparently I just can't order correctly there. I really wanted their chocolate dessert that I had heard so much about but they didn't have it as an offering. Bring out a cold bottle of water and drinks. We ordered the clam chowder and chili with Cajun cornbread. Tried Cafe Karibo for the third time. Was really hoping it would improve. But I'm done. Horrible service, about 1/2 full seats yet plenty of wait staff. Food was very weak (over spiced and inconsistent quality - mushy protein). $80 bill for two of us including one glass of wine for my wife. Waitress forgot about us at least 2 times. Tried to smile when called out - admitted it was her fault, but it didn't overcome the horrible dining experience. I even asked it she was given too many tables, she replied, no. There are 70+ restaurants on Amelia Island, this one is not worth the effort. Many better restaurants with great food and dining experience! Wish it had been a better experience! read more

Since my wife doesn't like to send food back- my only recourse is to try to prevent it from happening to others. $100 for 2 loaded potato soup (apparently it was hold the potato), ham and Brie sandwich, and steak frites (which apparently needs to be smothered with blue cheese). To be honest, there were other places I wanted to visit first on our trip to Amelia Island, but this had the biggest menu of things for my husband to eat, so in we went. The vibe is perfectly eclectic, with lots of art and cool colors and a lovely courtyard for dining. It was a little cold and windy, so we opted for inside. There were so many options of salads, apps, and sandwiches, and it actually took me a while to decide on my lunch. He had the Mediterranean Cous Cous Salad, with Farm Fresh Spring Greens topped with Seasoned Couscous, Chickpeas, Cucumbers, Onions and Tomatoes drizzled with Lemon-Cumin Vinaigrette, garnished with Microgreens. I went more traditional with a Blackened Mahi Sandwich. It was the biggest piece of fish I've ever been served! The seasoning was flavorful and delicious, and I loved that their "House fries" are a mix of regular and sweet potato fries. Yum. Get an extra side of the spicy aioli to dip them in. Would definitely try some of their specials and appetizers in the future, as well as enjoying cocktails from their bar. Great service and cozy ambiance. read more

Food was good but felt less of a dinner restaurant and more of a veggie wrap lunch place. It was all delicious but wasn't something I would go out of my way to try again. Servings are very large and easily shared. I love the addition of the watermelon to the wraps- was a fun side I haven't had in a while. Must try- the carbonara pasta, and the basket of sweet and regular potatoes. Mmmm!! Would be better with a dipping sauce... hmm The restaurant atmosphere is very intimate and cozy. It's a great place for meet up with friends or family. And staff is accommodating with birthdays or other events. I did not like that when we were told there was a wait for dinner, we were allowed to grab a quick drink at the bar. Is that for restaurant seating only? Thought that was odd. I was just a small group of 3 that could have grabbed drinks and hovered outside without crowding the bar. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food here so much that I had to go back during my second visit. The first time, I got a "Brie" Zy day sandwich from the waitress recommendation and it was so good. The toasty bread with full of hams, soft melted Brie cheese and cranberries raisins is just a divine combination. It's a MUST order! During my second time, I was here with my friend and we had the same sandwich, can't skip that lol. It's one of my favorite sandwich on the menu. We also had Crab cake and a flatbread pizza, everything was delicious as always. Can't go wrong with anything here. Service is excellent. Everyone here is super nice and very attentive. Saturday afternoon with some friends from out of town, we ventured in and sat in the lovely tables in the bar area. Two people at our table ordered the Pastreuben sandwich. It was specifically asked if it's anything comparable to a real Ruben, and we were assured it was. When they came out (2 orders), it was on a hoagie roll, very little thousand island, and no sauerkraut . When we asked about the sauerkraut there was a "oh... Yeah... OK... We forgot" moment. That was on two separate sandwiches. Clearly somebody wasn't paying attention in the kitchen today. We honestly Feel that CK probably should've paid us to eat their Pastreuben sandwiches today.
