Let me give you the skinny of this place. This is the ultimate in convenient store. The only thing they are missing is a gas station. I'll let you know straight up that I have a slight bias to this place. I walked in a saw Crystal hot sauce on every seating area! If that was not enough excitement for this New Orleans native, I looked beyond the tables and saw Zapps potato chips! Dear convenient store, you just earned an extra star. New Orleans influence aside, this place is open 34/7...that was worthy enough of a 4th star coupled with the fact they deliver. They also have a restaurant inside with a rotating daily menu to go along with daily specials. The restaurant closes down but they serve sandwiches 24/7. There is even a bakery section that has guava pastries, fresh baked bread, fresh baked cookies and Latin inspired bakeries. The pricing is slightly higher than I would like to pay, but all in all, this place delivers variety. Just take a look at the menu I provided and I'm certain something will tickle your fancy. Even the Boar's Head meat and cheese sandwiches comes in 3 sizes to fit your level of hunger. I can not fail to mention that since this is a convenient store setup, you have a variety of drink options from fountain drinks, to milkshakes, to juice machines, to alcohol. Give this place a look.

Article showing list of 23 food inspection violations
Dan B.

Update: I'm not surprised that shortly after I wrote this review, downstairs in Miami springs had 23 food inspection violations. Given the quality of the employees and lack of training, it's not a surprise at all. I haven't gone back since my review and probably never will. I've seen other employees at the UM location drop knives and re use them. They need better hiring and training practices. I'm Attaching a picture of the article citing the violations. While there is some decent food here like in most downstairs locations, also like in most locations, the biggest problem is the people they choose to hire. They're not mean or nasty (except for some at the UM location, who have dropped knives on the floor and used them on sandwiches without washing them), but they are very inconsistent with their job performance . Some do their jobs well while others are utterly incompetent . Some know how to build a sandwich and are able to do so in a timely manner whereas others will let customers stand there for 20 minutes while they sweep, take out garbage, and do other menial tasks that can wait until after the customers are served. One lady at this location is renowned for this during overnight hours. It's astonishing what kind of unimportant chores she will fit in one after the other while customers are waiting for her. She also puts way too much mustard and Mayo on the sandwiches and generally is sloppy and unskilled when making the sandwich . They are never heated enough when she tries to heat them and she does so with the Mayo and mustard already in the sandwich, which is gross. At least this location has one woman who is good at making sandwiches, but the other I've seen there is terrible at it. It doesn't matter how good the quality of roast beef is, if you put globs of Mayo and mustard and heat it with the cheese under the beef, the sandwich is going to be ruined. I've wasted a lot of money on terrible sandwiches when she is working. She's not a mean person, just terrible at her job, which is why I was so hesitant to review. The location by UM is even worse and has only given me negative experiences. The one on le jeune is usually positive. Like I said, the quality of employee is inconsistent across the locations , but the quality of the food is pretty good. I appreciate it as a late night option, but they need to train their employees better and have better hiring practices . When I worked at Arby's as a teenager, the management was clear that you only clean and do other chores for the restaurant AFTER customers have been served. Some employees at downstairs need to learn why that's logical and essential to a successful business . The managers need to teach that and make sure the employees are competent and logical at making sandwiches . Many fine ingredients have gone to waste because they were assembled into a sandwich by an incompetent employee at downstairs locations . I appreciate the Cuban pastries and some of the other baked goods, though.

Forget about Subway! These subs are the bomb. Made fresh to order with fresh ingredients. At Downstairs they prepare your sub with high quality meats and cheeses. They stack your sub with Boars Head Deli Meats and Cheeses. Plenty of fresh vegetables to add to your sub including all kinds of oils, dressing, and don't forget about the salt and pepper. The breads are very fluffy and tasty. They even have a quick-oven if you want your sub to be nice and hot. This Downstairs location has all kinds of craft beers. It's located on NW 36th Street and 57th Avenue. There's plenty of parking right up front which makes it safe for customers to visit the store at all times during night and day. What I like about Downstairs is that it's a local Miami chain. You can't find a Downstairs anywhere else. Downstairs is also one of the sponsors at Burger Beast Events which are normally held at Magic City Casino such as Croquetapalooza. Try purchasing a Mama's Guava Bar when visiting a Downstairs Store. Mama's Guava Bars are made in Miami. It's a local company that makes all natural guava bars. I've only had their "naked" flavor and it is delicious. Downstairs is truly a step above Subway. I would even say their subs are better than Publix Subs but then again that's my opinion.

If I had a Yelp list of weird places with good food this would be in it! Located across the street from MIA, it's a little off the beaten path as far as places to eat go and don't expect full wait service as this is a convenience store that serves up some great breakfast and lunch deals including a really mean Churrasco! This place gets busy during peak breakfast and lunch hours, always a good sign when seeking out new places to eat.

Not boars head beef

Friendly staff Clean place But the cheese steak sub is NOT Boar's Head brand, which is what they advertise. What I got was a steak and fat sub; a lot of fatty beef. Gross.

Everything looked so clean. Love coming to this gas station. They have a little bit of everything here! The staff is friendly, they're very welcoming.

Downstairs is one of Miami's great liquor store cafes. Sandwiches and lunch plates to order, (choose a main dish plus two sides), fresh bread, coffee drinks, cold beer and booze. The food is great and the quantities are quite generous. With a drink, lunch will be about $15-20.

Came here for lunch with a coworker. I wasn't expecting much from a "Convenience Store" and Downstairs did not disappoint. I ordered the Oxtail with white rice and plantains. The oxtail was so tender and the sauce was so flavorful and so good mixed in with the rice. It was a great meal that ended with a cafe con leche. Might need to stop more often as they also offer grilled steaks and if needed a lotto ticket.

Jamón serrano, manchego & fig jelly

Best quick lunch spot in the area. Their sandwiches/subs are top notch. The deli meats & cheeses are all Boars Head. My fave is the Serrano Ham sandwich that comes with Manchego cheese and a fig jelly spread. I always opt for a baguette but they do have other options. Then they have a ton of great veggies, condiments and dressings to top your sub. This ain't no Subway.

This is a great place to grab a quick lunch across from the airport cargo section on 36th St. The ladies behind the counter are the nicest you will meet. The Boars Head sandwiches are some of the best cuts you can buy. 12" or 9" sub option (who can be satisfied by a 6" anymore?)(no pun intended) Spring Mix on you sub! Fresh made Hot plate options with a nice little high top sit down area. Brand new Drink Coolers with shiny blue white lighting (fancy). A nice selection of Colombian & other South American pastries (pandebono was moist and puffy,. and this was at 1:30pm!) The place is spotless. The beer selection is not as great as Stop N' Shop in the two Gables locations, but our office Fridge still sounds great from the selection they do carry... clink.. clink..

Terrible service from personnel. One of the most rude cashiers I've encountered. It's a shame because the food and coffee is pretty good.

After Irma passed, this restaurant was our saving grace as it was primarily the only place in Miami Springs.

Okay so nobody likes to pick up medications. It's never any fun. I hate waiting in line and then…read morehaving to deal with the process of giving all my information. Today at this store I had the best experience with the lady working the Pharmacy Counter. She was amazingly personable and was such a pleasure to speak with. She reminded me to get my flu shot. Made sure all my info was correct and made sure I got my reward points. Truly the best customer service. I will definitely be back to this store for my prescription needs and anything else. I wish the receipt had her name on it but I sadly couldn't locate it.

This Walgreens really needs better management and customer service…read more The issues: * The receipt printer at checkout is constantly broken -- this has happened more than once. * Several employees were rude and unwilling to help when I asked where to find an item. * The manager didn't speak a word of English, which made even simple questions frustrating. * The pharmacy wait times are long, and they never answer the phone, no matter how many times you call. Other notes: The store itself is clean and carries the basics -- over-the-counter meds, toiletries, snacks, even a FedEx drop-off kiosk -- but the service issues ruin the convenience. Bottom line: If you're just grabbing something quick, it might be fine. But if you need help, expect a long wait and poor communication. Hopefully they improve staff training and customer service soon.
