The coffee is consistently good, and the brunch menu is just as impressive -- flavorful, beautifully presented, and always a treat.The egg dish on the dark toasted bread with melted cheese and chili oil was absolutely delicious -- rich, savory, and full of flavor with just the right kick. It felt elevated yet comforting, It's such a charming spot to stop in for a quality coffee and a great meal. My only wish is that they stayed open later. We decided to stop here on our way to the city and so glad we did! Staff were super friendly. It's a small cafe - so not ideal for big groups but ok if solo or 2 people. Their menu all sounded so good but we went with the burrito + add chilaquiles (do it), and a few pastries. The burrito is HUGE - so really easy to share. We tried iced lattes and the Japanese Iced coffee to drink. Super flavorful espresso and the iced coffee was like a mellow cold brew. Highly recommend if you're in the area! read more

Best coffee in Newburgh! They use a great roaster. Latte was really good. Small amount of seating, NYC coffee shop vibe. Their breakfast burritos are the best around. Service was a bit slower however to be expected when you're getting something house-made with quality ingredients. read more

Loved discovering this gem in downtown Newburgh! Very clean space, the style is urban Mexico, and the coffee is fantastic. It really reminded me of my days in Baja California and Oaxaca. The syrups are self serve, water available, and very reasonable prices. They have decaf espresso (my midday choice), and my friend got their espresso tonic, and both are fantastic. Service was great, very professional, to the point of giving a slight chill but hard working, quick and effective. They have frequent visitor cards, which I definitely started one since I will be returning. read more

Downstate, a coffee shop on Lander St. in the heart of the city of Newburgh NY, is a yummy peek at the future of the Hudson Valley. The interior design manages to reveal itself as both industrial and welcoming in the way that the most progressive new eateries in NYC tend to be. The staff, Brandon, Erik and Brenda greeted me with a pre-warmed cup for what was very good coffee and topped it off with youthful, welcoming smiles. My food was also quite good and my overall take on this place was; inspired and inspiring. Not at all cheap, but that's the future. Came in for a latte, it took WAAAAAYYYY too long. By the time i ordered to having my coffee in hand it was 18 minutes. It wasn't particularly busy in there either, so I don't know why it took that long. The latte itself was good, but I just can't imagine stopping in for a place for a to-go latte and waiting that long. read more

This small cafe punches way, way above its weight class. Everything I've had here is superb, but the star of the show is the torta with chorizo. Honestly, I think the Downstate's breakfast torta with chorizo (accompanied by a coffee) is quite possibly the best breakfast in America. Seriously, Downstate should win an award for this dish. read more

11:47am. Two friends and I walk into this completely empty shop to get some lunch. First time for all of us. We want a dish from the limited (5 items) "lunch" menu. The cashier says sorry can't make you any of that until 12pm. We ask so can't order lunch til 12? Cashier rolls eyes and says "twelve-oh-one". That's fine we can wait 10 mins. We are super hungry, I ask are the ingredients for the lunch menu on a locked timer that opens at 12? We are told "can't place the order on the computer til 12". Ok see ya. So... if I told you I wanted a carnitas burrito you couldn't take my order and start working on it? By the time the three orders were done, it would've been past 12 and you could've rung us up. But instead you turned away three customers with pretentious business practices. Now we will never go there and we will tell everyone who mentions your business how terrible your service is. Risky for a small business. Keep this up and you won't be open for business in 2025. read more
