My car broke down in Eugene and this garage was recommended by the tow truck driver. They replaced 2 sensors which didn't fix it. They told me that it would be $4800 to completely repair it and offered to help me get ahold of a junkyard to take it and give me a couple hundred bucks. My mechanic from Salem came, got my car, told me no one actually checked inside the engine. He replaced the timing belt and tensioner. Less than $300. I paid them almost $500 for 2 sensors(that my mechanic confirmed, I didn't need) and some diagnostics. THEY WANTED ME TO JUNK MY CAR!!! On a worst case scenario! They didn't confirm what the actual problem was! By the way, it was the bearings in the tensioner. Not to be trusted! read more

I took my car in because it was having trouble shifting gears, and the code showed P0700 which is transmission console. They said it was the oxygen sensors and spark plugs, and I paid $2800. Minutes after picking the car up, all the lights came back on and it was still driving exactly the same- not well. The second time I took it in, they claimed to fix the issue, which was chemicals left from the first visit. The lights stayed off for one day but it was still driving terribly. After the THIRD time bringing it in, they tell me it needs a new transmission. Pretty angry that I paid so much to fix what was not the issue in the first place, and that it took 3 times for them to figure out what was wrong. And then they quoted me double what it will actually cost to replace the transmission. read more

Stopped by to ask some questions about tuning and maintenance and their lobby smells amazing! Spotted a diffuser behind the counter. *A+ to them. The aesthetics were very nice and they have a candy bowl hidden in the corner, water available and magazines while you wait if they're finishing up with another customer. They pull up all the details of what your car needs on their monitor that swivels which makes it easy to understand. The reception dude was great, friendly and seemed knowledgeable, and willing to get whatever I needed for my car. I didn't see any technicians during my visit but they looked like they had cars to work on so they must know their stuff. Located in a busy area but convenient and when I asked about loaner cars, they did mention they were available but I didn't seek out any details. read more

I have a 2017 Volkswagen Passat. My warranty ended at the end of last year. I was going to the dealership for all of my service needs, but had heard some good things about this place and wanted to try it out. My Dad is a mechanic who works out of his home garage so I like to support local business whenever possible. I am happy I made the call for my 30,000 mile service and oil change. Brian was very professional and Brandon in the front office was knowledgeable and courteous too. I was provided a loaner vehicle for the day while they worked on my car and was sent a detailed Inspection notice through text with a link I could access, so there wouldn't be any surprises when I went to pick up my car. There were even multiple photos of my car in the inspection which was nice. The price was comparable to the dealership (maybe even a little cheaper) and the personal attention I received was better than any dealership I have ever dealt with. Was able to get an appointment to have a shakedown on my car at 8am and was done by noon which was nice. Granted my car does have many issues I was looking at a few thousand dollar fix for issues that where wayyy over charged. The tires alone would cost $270 to get balanced and installed. That's only the rear tires. Went to discount tires instead and they did it for 150 bucks! Also, wanting to charge me $250 for new air filters and intake just because the old ones were dirty. Discount tire even fixed my oil leak without even charging me! Where Thai place tries to charge me closer to $300 smh Absolutely ridiculous prices. If you want to be robbed of your money go here. Also there mechanic kept saying "if your were my relative this" and "if your were my relative that" like the heck? Appreciate owners attempts to explain away the problems with their service, but the bottom line is this: you charged almost $900 to fix a radiator leak by changing a couple of hoses, by the next day it was leaking again, and instead of standing by your work, you wanted another $250 to change another hose to fix what you were supposed to have fixed for $900! Why didn't you fix it the first time? Or when we brought it back in noting it leaked again the next day, stand by your original work and complete the $900 job? Our family has 8 vehicles, and none will be serviced by Downtown Automotive. read more

My car was overheating and I was desperate for a fix, so my dad had me drive my car to this repair shop. I figured replacing a couple radiator hoses would be a few hundred dollars at most. My dad was initially quoted at $700, which was bad enough, but when it was time to pick it up, the full charge was closer to $900!! Worst part is, the problem wasn't even fixed. The radiator was still leaking after I left, coolant light coming on periodically. My dad tried to finish where they left off, but ultimately we ended up trying to take it back so they could finish the job. I was firm that I was not paying another dime for a job unfinished. They tried to charge us an ADDITIONAL $250 on top of the $900 from before. Unacceptable. I'm never doing business with this company again. read more

The lovely people at downtown automotive were extremely communicative with me, and exhausted their efforts trying to figure out what exactly was going on with my vehicle. They also cleaned and vacuumed my car, and reprogrammed my key on the house! I'm extremely happy with my experience and all of my interactions with them, and will be using this shop exclusively for as long as I'm in Eugene. Can not recommend enough! read more

I can't say if they are a good shop or not because Victoria (front desk) refused to provide me with a quote on a specific repair. Every other shop in town has no problem giving me an estimated range of cost when given the vehicle specs and specific part needing to be replaced. After asking multiple times for the information, Victoria insisted that no information could be provided over the phone and without bringing in my vehicle and paying $125 for an inspection. When asked to speak to someone else, I was told she was the only person to speak with. It's possible they could be good mechanics and do good work but after receiving such terrible customer service over the phone, there's no way I would give them the benefit of my business. I called Downtown Automotive because my car was not starting. Brian made arrangements for a tow truck and got my vehicle in the shop the same day. He called and gave me a status update with a price quote that I thought was fair. I had them replace my starter and during their inspection they noted my brake pads were worn out, which I also had them replace. When I picked up my car it was washed and vacuumed. I'm thankful to call them my new mechanic. I won't go anywhere else. read more

I had an excellent experience with the service at Downtown Automotive Center. I took my mk7 GTI in for an issue with the clutch not releasing. The technicians there diagnosed the issue and recommended the necessary repairs. I discussed with them and decided to go with an upgraded South Bend clutch, APR stage 2 tune with exhaust down pipe and replace the clutch bleeder block. They also changed the gear oil in the manual transmission. They quoted a price and completed the work with no additional markups. They also stayed in contact with updates as parts arrived and work was performed. They showed me the failed parts and explained what had happened. They also returned the car washed and vacuumed. The new setup works great, the car is much faster and the new clutch and bleeder block are much nicer than the stock setup. I would definitely recommend Downtown Automotive Center. read more

Not very professional. I made an appointment online on a Saturday to take my car to Downtown Automotive Center on Monday. I called Monday morning to get a quote at 8:am when my appointment was at 10am. The guy answered the phone and I ask him for a quote. I did not demand a quote I just ask for one, but he got kind of defensive saying that he could not give me a quote because he had to find out which type of suspension I had on my car. I agreed and asked him to call me back. Well, he never called me back. In a way, he saved me from making a big mistake. If the communication is this bad before I even take my car there, I can't imagine what it would be like if I had to resolve an issue with them. Too bad because I was planning on going back to have a lot of other modifications done. I can't really say how good their work is since I never made it there but the red flag for me was the communication. I could have told him what type of suspension my car had if he had asked. The manager of the place needs to make sure they are hiring people that are in line with their vision. Unless their vision is to lose customers before they get to their shop. Very disappointed. Bering such a small area with no turning shop options, I was hopping a found a spot to settle and do my tuning. I gust I will jut have to drive to Portland or Washington to do my turning. read more

I am so so so happy with my service here. All the mechanics treat you like a competent human being. They fixed my car completely and efficiently, while providing me a rental car to drive in the meantime. They were honest about what my car needed immediately and what was simply a "suggestion" for future servicing. They were conscious of my budget and my time. They were polite and called me at the times I told them I would be available and they washed my car after they completed servicing it. I went to them for a complete auto inspection and oil change. They are super friendly and great at explaining everything. However, they gave me a LONG list of things that were wrong with the car. When I took it back to my mechanic to recheck work they had done many of the things listed were NOT a problem. They also forgot to replace the oil gasket when changing the oil. So though I really liked working with them I won't be going back there. read more

I want to give a shout-out to the shop where I take my car, Downtown Automotive. I've brought my car there at least 3 times and have been really happy with the service every time. Cody and William are the two people I've worked with most and they're both so kind and helpful! I have a 2009 Ford Escape and it's at their shop now because it would suddenly lose power while I was driving it (happened more than once going 70mph on I-5). They not only accepted my vehicle promptly, but they also did some research and found a recall for my vehicle regarding this throttle issue, and now the work is being done by the dealership and is covered under an extended warranty. The dealership is also replacing the steering column in my car because of another recall on the car, also free of charge. This is all thanks to the guys at Downtown Automotive for checking into things for me. I don't know much about cars, so I really have to put my trust in the mechanics I work with to not take advantage of that lack of knowledge. These guys are the best! read more

Purchased a Groupon for an oil change, windshield wiper replacement, tire rotation, car wash & vacuum. Sadly, they were rushing and could not wash the car or vacuum. If I had known that they would do such a poor job on vacuuming, and did not have enough time to wash the car in the five hours they were working on my vehicle, I would have gone somewhere else. I only had one day off and couldn't see my normal mechanic so I thought I'd try these guys out. All I wanted was my spark plugs and spark plug wires changed and this is what I told them. They said they would change my spark plugs and inspect the wires to see if they needed to be changed and call me to authorize the additional cost. They deemed my spark plug wires fine,even though the car ran just as bad as it did when I brought it in for work on the spark plug. Today, I was finally able to get to see my regular, competent, mechanic and he said the spark plug wires were bad. I called Downtown Automotive about this and I was told that they checked my spark plug wires and they thought they were fine. Obviously not. I asked why they didn't just change my plug wires when I specifically asked them to and I was told "We don't just change parts because our customers tell us to." Good to know. I don't know why these guys have such a high rating. They are incompetent. Don't go. read more
