One thing worth knowing for anyone booking here: don't expect your car to be seen at your scheduled time. Book expecting a wait. I booked this appointment two days in advance for 1:30 pm wheel alignment had & dropped my car off early at 12:36 pm in case they could start sooner without expectations. From 1 pm till 2:47pm car sat in the parking lot untouched. Around 2 pm someone came over to offer coffee n' water & said thanks for your patience, we've had a tough day, but gave me no timeline. Whenn't even started yet, that I finally went to ask how much longer I was told the it alone takes about an hour, so I was looking at another hour on top of the two I'd already waited and hour from the appointment time. When I raised my concern, the front desk staff told me the appointment time isn't when service starts, it's just your drop-off time. That's not stated anywhere on their website or when booking. After more than two hours with no proactive updates I chose to leave & book with another shop. To the shop: this would've been a completely different experience if someone had simply told me up front that you were running behind & given me the choice to wait or reschedule. I would have rescheduled if that option had been offered honestly & early. Please train your team to flag delays proactively & add a note when booking that appointment times are drop-off windows. That one change would fix everything that went wrong here. read more

I recently brought my Tacoma truck in to check out why the brakes were squeaking - made an appointment ahead - got there on time - waited a half hour or more - someone test drove it and gave info to Larry at the desk who began researching the parts etc that would be needed to "repair" my truck - apparently the rotors and other brake parts needed replacement and would cost $700-$800 to do - when I explained I had Just had my brakes looked over by my mechanic in California who had just replaced the pads - the story changed and it turned out there were some rocks/debris in the brakes and I "need to nothing" - this has left a bad feeling - had I not known my truck did Not need what he told me - I would not have known the difference and paid for something my truck did not need - I say be aware and get a second opinion at the very least read more

3x tries for a rear end and kept getting it wrong. Kept the truck most of the summer. 4th time the rear end went out i got super annoyed and went to another local shop to have it done and paid AGAIN and it was fixed for good. Never another problem. Sent them my receipt for having to pay again...did not even respond and did not even refund after their work was wrong repeatedly and really inconvenienced us. Weird. I rarely leave negative reviews. Not sure what is going on here but we did not like it. Never heard of a business do something like this....i mean never even offered to refund for their horrible work that i had to have redone. She went to a free auto parts store, it was confirmed ,Engine mis-fire. She made appointment, went in to discover Joes Garage wanted to sell her service for new water pump timing belt service struts in the thousands. She called very sad over what she believed in Joes. I told her to leave. She paid $200 for a oil change/ estimate. I had her drive home go to our local honest shop. New plug wire set. Done Car rips my daughter happy. I called yesterday to ask if there would be an additional charge for an estimate or if these charges for the estimate would be applied to the charges for the work. I was told they would. Today, after having them do the estimate, I was charged $155 and told those charges would not be applied to the charges for the work. When I complained, the person at the front desk did some fancy rewording to explain why a) the charges for the estimate would not be applied to the charges for the work and b) why I was the one who misunderstood what I was told. Had a buddy bring his 4Runner in for a brake issue, the pedal was sinking to the floor at red lights and he'd have to pump the brakes to get it to stop. They wrote him up a quote for front pads rotors and calipers and rear drums shoes wheel cylinders and springs, plus a new brake booster, and a brake fluid flush and bleed, all in all it was almost $2000 which is absolutely ridiculous. The only brake component not on the quote was the master cylinder and lo and behold, the actual problem, the master cylinder had internal blowby. They wanted to replace everything except the part that needed to be replaced. I don't think they actually know how to diagnose a hydraulic brake system. read more

The distance I'll drive to have my car looked at by a mechanic is directly proportional to how good they are. Joe's is an hour from our house. Discovered Joe's Garage one night when our F-350 died in the parking lot of a late night diner in Beaverton. When it couldn't be jumped by the tow truck driver, Joe's was the closest to our house our insurance company would tow the truck. We picked them out based on reviews and hopped for the best. Joe's got the truck in first thing in the morning and had it fixed by that afternoon. They have since worked on all of our cars. They have been thorough and thoughtful. Their team has stood by the work the completed and never tried to upsell us on work that wasn't necessary. There are closer mechanics to our house. But it's worth sticking with a company that treats you right. read more

Recommend as a shop? No. I'm torn on writing this review because these folks did an excellent job with their "complimentary" inspection, and not only was this thorough but also included photos. I have in quotations because I do believe they did an inaccurate billing assessment, but in theory it appears they do the inspection service with any service at their shop. The biggest reasons I have to give a low rating and couldn't recommend is communication. First, I reached out to them based on local recommendations. I checked to see if they felt confident assessing the work (import, Volkswagen). And then if they had time to get to it anytime soon. They were confident that both could happen. They did initial diagnostic on maybe the next day, and we happened to be driving by the shop and noticed that the window in our vehicle was down and the vehicle was left on the street with a bag over the window after hours. In the Whit. So naturally the next day we wanted to know what was going on, they apparently had issues with the window and well... Anyways not going to dwell on that. Moving forward, there was not a single time where they called me back when they said they would. A few days rolled by before I felt like I had to call to see where the car was at, and then for more info on what they found. This occurred on at least three different occasions, and ended up being day to day after they repeatedly said they'd have time for it today, they'll have an update today. I want to say they probably felt annoyed or overwhelmed, but I do think that if you have someone else's vehicle, you should have systems in place to keep them updated on the progress in a reliable fashion, and also be able to manage your work and scheduling expectations accordingly. I shouldn't have to wonder if you're going to get to the vehicle that week (unless that's the expectation you communicate) if you say you'll definitely have time for it on a particular day. Maybe this has to do with scheduling issues, but this was a big issue for me. There were also off comments staff made about the car needing a lot of work, "probably need an engine rebuild", that were made to my partner taking the car in before they'd done much diagnostics. I think that's rather odd, but also didn't appreciate my partner being freaked out about this initial off the cuff commentary when their car hasn't even really been looked at yet. The last stumble on communication is addressing key concerns that us bringing the vehicle in. Drivability, concern for leaking injectors. They were quick to point out that OEM spark plugs were not used. Did not offer to remedy this first. Went into some electrical troubleshooting instead, they asserted the issue was a faulty computer system and we should replace this first. The agreed upon plan before any work was done was to replace some bolts, and verify fuel injectors were properly seated. When we received the vehicle back, ran about the same. They affixed a band clamp to an intake hose, abraded a wire to a sensor (I'm assuming during testing), and within two days we had leaking injectors. Turns out they didn't do the bolt work at all, and said after the fact it was "out of their wheelhouse", even though this was the very first objective in the initial game plan. When I called to talk to them about the spark plugs and the lack of visual work, they said that wasn't the plan and they apologized for the confusion. They do say they record their calls, at the beginning of every call to the shop, so I'm sure they could double check accuracy of this if they chose to do so. Work they did do? -Complimentary Inspection -Attach a band clamp -Checked spark plugs Biling was for three hours of general diagnostic. They had done various flow tests and electric tests per their word, but couldn't say for sure. What I do know is that the above was done, we were billed for three hours of work, and none of our key concerns were addressed from the initial diagnosis. We were advised to either replace the car's computer, or take to VW dealership, depending on what timeline you spoke to which agent. We had the car home for a couple of days before the injectors started leaking, and again had vehicle towed to another shop, but this time to VW dealership. Prior to the injectors leaking and us taking to VW dealership, replacing the spark plugs with OEM corrected all but one of the fault codes read when back from Joe's. So again, I'm not sure why they didn't suggest this and do that first. I haven't worked with many garages, but compared to the service department at the VW, it appears that the theme for this is the bottom line I would not trust these folks for a complex fix, thorough diagnostic, or work that I couldn't do on my own over two hours in length. And if you can't trust a shop to work on stuff you aren't familiar with or don't want to work on, is there really any point on taking your car to that shop? read more

I can't say enough great things about Joe's Garage. From the beginning, I brought them a 2003 Subaru Forester that was making squealing sounds, leaking oil, and had smoke coming out of the engine (no joke). Not only did they fix each problem, but Evan helped me get my lights cleaned and ordered me new wheels and installed them. He even referred me for detailing, when I asked. Evan was quick, honest, and dependable. I liked getting a full detailed report about each of the car's issues, as well as explanation for each of the car's parts that were working well. We took our Honda CRV to Joe's because it sounded funny and felt like it jerked at about 35 mph when slowing down. The problem started after we had had the bearings replaced at Sun Automotive. I had no idea what was going on with it and took it to Joe's. The employees were friendly and knowledgeable. The mechanic spent time diagnosing and checking everything out. I will not be coming back to this garage. I was a loyal customer. 12 volt battery died and I had to have it towed there. There was mention on phone about evidence of water leak. However they failed to mention that all the insulation on the sunroof was sticking up all around the window. The notations said sunroof was slanted. Also when I picked up the car the the back compartment where battery lives was all taken apart by me when I became stranded. As a courtesy they could have assembled it back. I went in today in person to ask why they had not told me on the phone about the rubber seal. Kathy was defensive and said we don't work on sunroofs and that it was equivalent to mentioning I had a dent in the car. Really? That was a deal breaker. A customer should be able to tell a business that they are dissatisfied with service without them treating me like I'm rude for my honesty. read more

I purchased used 2014 Nissan Frontier with an extended warranty. I had put less than a 1000 miles in the year since I bought it when a check engine light came on. After a diagnostic test, I was told a few things were wrong and it would cost close to $800 to fix it and not a penny of which was covered by my extended warranty. When I attempted to cancel the warranty numerous calls to the finance department went unanswered and not a single voicemail returned. When I attempted to contact my customer service representative, not a single voice mail I left was returned. It appears that once they had suckered me in, I was of no importance to them. I have since left voicemail instructions to not do any work on my vehicle as I am going to take it a different repair shop. I would urge people to not purchase any vehicle from this dealership and if needed, take it elsewhere for maintenance. Evidently profit is more important than brand reputation. read more

Few minutes went by and still just staring as another employee came to the counter and sat down... eyeballed me and didn't say a thing... waited... Another few minutes and an older fella came up and sat down then gruffly asked what I needed. Maybe a bad day...? Not how I would expect to be greeted as a potential customer. Shame really, as I had stopped by randomly early 2016 for a minor issue and they were absolutely fantastic at that time and why I had thought of stopping there in the first place. They could not diagnose a valve cover leak on multiple occasions and the smell of burning oil was overwhelming, lasted about 18 months. Failed to put the oil cap back on after an oil change, failed to properly fasten the engine lower shroud, failed to properly tighten the oil filter it was only finger tight. Installed the incorrect spark plugs that were 1/2 inch too short and caused damage to the cylinder head and poor engine performance. Cranky counter person. Overcharged for a rebuilt turbo. No I don't recommend them unless you are a masochistic person. read more

I came in with a specific problem with my car idling incorrectly at certain speeds. Vtm4 and check engine light coming on. They charged me an inspection fee and didn't find anything wrong. If they did a diagnostic, like I asked, maybe they would have. They then started suggesting mostly maintenance work like tire balancing and rotation to fix the idling problem. Hmm... Then they told me my shocks are shot, and the front struts need replacing, with a $900 quote. Very interesting, all around. I had my front struts replaced just two years before and for under $500 at a very reputable shop with a 100% guarantee. I took my car back on over to that reputable and nationwide shop, and they looked at my struts - for FREE- (yeah, still brand new and fine), and control arm, and bushings. All great. (They did find some gravel behind the control arm and removed as much as possible, which eliminated a metallic quiet squeak car was making.) Then I took my car to a different local mechanic shop to check things out. They did a diagnostic- FREE- and found 7 error messages for my check engine light coming on- all 6 spark plugs needed changing and the 7th message was- ALL pistons misfiring. They then discovered that in intake manifold was choked with carbon build up. It's truly amazing to me why this place gets good ratings. Maybe it's the friendly front desk manner? The first estimate was a lot for me, however, the guy said, " Do you want us to put everything back?" I said, "Yes." But a few minutes later he came out again and had dropped the price and says, "how's this amount?" I said, "Yes" and they did what they said they would do and, in 2 hours, I drove away.
