A unique experience. I stopped by mid-afternoon as they were one of the only places in town open. I was surprised that they didn't seem to have any bakery items left. I grabbed a coffee, which was self-service from a pot on a side counter. Overall, it felt weirdly like I wasn't completely welcome to be there if I wasn't ordering from their menu, but no one forced me out or anything. The coffee was quite good. The restaurant clearly has a history as a different business and I would have loved to have found out more about it. read more

Stopped by the other day with The Fam for breakfast. Not the world's best ambiance and not the world's best food, but the selection is good, the prices are right, and the doughnuts are fantastic! Service was on the slow side, but in their defense it was a very large and complicated order Yup, I'll be back. read more

Need to stop for some grub on my way through town and found this place with good reviews. It's definitely a locals spot as everyone knew each other. It's a large interior that has an upper 'display' area with loads of saddles and rocking horses. Didn't get the story on those. It was table service (except drinks) and the gentlemen took my order and a while later a very good sandwich and perfect fries showed up. It was all I could do to eat it all, but it was so tasty I made sure to finish it. If in town again, I'd definitely drop in again. read more

We came in from out of town to visit my mom. She got two pizzas to take and bake at home. Love the pizza here. We got a combo and half cheese/half pepperoni. The dough was super good. Loved how crispy it got. The toppings all tasted very fresh on the combo. I would definitely get pizza from here again when we come back to visit. read more

I was in town for work, and visiting the City Hall. Afterwards, I went around the corner, saw this place, and went in for coffee. I ordered the largest coffee that I could (served in a quart styrofoam soup container, as I was driving and it was HOT coffee), and a turnover from their myriad pastries in the glass counter. I wanted to eat the turnover there, so I went to look for a place to sit. Seating appears to be family-style, so I went to a table with two women in their 70s, asked them if I could sit there, and they said yes. While I ate, we got to talking. Both lived in the area. We ended up talking for an hour about where we were from, Starlink, my son, their problems with doctors, one of their sons that ran the local 911, the range fires of two years ago, the firefighters that had camped in the fairgrounds, the county fair, history of Pine Creek on the other side of the border, and on and on. I had a very pleasant repast, but finally had to bid them adieu and head to Alturas. I remember the visit more than the turnover. I hope this place is still here when I come back in a year. I wish there were more places like this near where I live. read more
