Yes, this is a dive bar, but the bartender was super friendly and we chatted with some of the locals. There's not much in this town, definitely food desert. They had a large menu but it was dark so my photo didn't come out. The people stared but took my order. I got a cheeseburger and steak fries which were okay. Theres a connected large bar, dimly lit didn't get the prices. Everything pretty cheap here. Let me start by saying I hate clam chowder but it smelled so good I had to try it and it was great. My husbands chicken strips and fries were good. For $30 you get a steak, mashed potatoes, salad, clam chowder and a piece of garlic bread. Garlic bread was yummy, steak was pretty fatty but what wasn't was DELICIOUS! Food and service last time we ate there was disgusting, are they going out of business

We needed some quality food after a really long day out on the tracks, In this small town there were not many options around 8:30 pm on a Friday night. I could only find two options and this one looked like a much better fit than the other. The food was good. I was in the mood for a baked potato, so I upgraded my Dip sandwich with this side (instead of fries or another option). The service was good, once it started. There was only one server on the restaurant side and one on the bar side and it was rather busy. We honestly sat there for 10 minutes before even getting a menu. The waitress' main error was that she got one table all the way to getting their food before starting service on another (with two tables within that cycle at a time). This may have been by orders from the kitchen or a manager, so I am not sure who made this decision. Within that rate of service, she was able to do a good job, but if we had any other real option that night, we would have definitely left and gone elsewhere. We had dinner there last night. At first glance, the interer was old and run down but our meals were terrific! I had the Philly dip and the chef served the best Au Jus I've ever had served in a restaurant. It was full flavored, robust and hot. My sister had the Cran-nutty. A turkey cranberry sandwich with walnuts on a dark hearty bread. It was great. Husband had the standard cheese burger but it was juicey and very good flavor. read more

I was very nearly to 5 stars here, but the onion rings held me back a bit. While there are some aesthetic and/or cleanliness bones I could pick with this place.... I won't. It just came down to inedible onion rings for me--which were at least half the reason I ordered the bacon bleu burger here. All in all the stop was fantastic though. I had a chicken strip basket & fries (both were quite good), but I also had the bacon bleu w/ rings. The burger was better than average or "good" I'd say. But the darned rings were so hard that I couldn't separate one from the next without smashing the entirety of the pile. And once smashed to separate, it was clear there wasn't any onion left in the ring. They'd been reduced to super hard shells that were overcooked and fused together. I soaked one in ranch to see if that would make it a bit softer, but to no avail. With a heavy heart I left the table with food still on my plate. :(. But like i said. Restaurant connected to the bar was empty, bar was where it was at. We like to sit at a bar. The place was jumping and a little wild. A cowboy and a youngsters mix. Full bar, great beers and it's been a long time since I had a French Dip made right, they nailed it. Thanks to Jack, the bartender, we thoroughly enjoyed our libations in this, and I mean this endearingly, dark-dive-bar-local-watering-hole. Thanks to the Oregon State Lottery Commission's machines set up in the back, I made enough on video poker to pay for our drinks and tip Jack. A fun way to spend 90 minutes on the night we needed to stay overnight in Lakeview. In the unlikely event we would be in town again, my husband and I would look forward to going back to Eagles Nest. TWO DOORS: The front of the building has two doors. The door on the right, marked food, opens into a light little cafe space. The door on the left, marked drink or bar, opens into the dark space. The two are also connected by an inside doorway. You can order food in the bar. You can order libations in the cafe. VIBE: Our eyes adjusted to the dark setting after about 20 minutes but the camera never does unless one turns on flash. I think that's pretty rude to do. Also I am loathe to take pictures with people in them unless they want their photo taken. So I didn't turn on flash but couldn't resist the image of the two regulars at the bar, one drinking diet Coke and the other a beer, one in baseball cap and the other in Cowboy hat. That seemed to capture the spirit of the folks we met during our Lakeview visit. It seemed everyone who came in knew Jack's name and she theirs. A locals as regulars kind of place. By the time we left we felt like we belonged there too. Someone was talking about a little dust-up-fight that apparently happened there a night or two earlier. So, there's that I guess on some evenings. Multiple TVs over the bar were tuned to a ball game with sound off. Music was part of the fun of the vibe. We walked in to Patsy Cline singing "Crazy" and we also heard Steppenwolf's (shades of my high school years) "Magic Carpet Ride", ACDC's version of "Black Betty", "Witchy Woman" in the Eagles' version and...well...lots of good tunes. My hubby ordered a second drink to linger and listen. And reminisce. Drinks, a dark bar and good music can lead to that. He recalled how the owner of a NYC Financial District bar he and his buddies liked to frequent after work some nights would play "Crazy" over and over on the juke box and sing along with Patsy in robust voice. That bar owner, he said, must be deceased by now. Where does time go when it is gone? Carpe diem. GOOD DRINKS & VALUE: It is worth noting this is the kind of bar where you can feel comfortable ordering a specialty cocktail and it will be made right. At least if Jack is on duty as she knows her stuff. Prices are a bargain. Specialty drinks around $5 each and specials of the day as little as $3 per. FOOD: If there was a next time at Eagles Nest we might try the food as the menu from the restaurant side had an array of salads, sandwiches, burgers and dinner entrees that could fill the bill. Even for largely vegetarian eaters like us, although to be sure Lakeview is meat eatin' country and the menu reflects that. On the night of our visit the dinner special was an 8 oz. steak and potato with soup or salad dinner for an impressively small price. There must have been a dozen burger options. Main course salads, like Cobb or Chef, can be ordered in full or half sizes. Soup is homemade. One of the desserts that caught my eye was a vanilla bean mascarpone cheesecake with berries. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING:: On street. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Level in the door and all on one floor. All at bar seating is high but there are a couple-three standard height tables in the main bar area. 3) POOL: If pool is your game, there is a table around the side of the back of the bar...you'll have to look for it, but it is there. read more

We walked down last night after checking into our hotel room for the night. Hoping for some good beverages and something to eat. We walked in at 7:00 pm to a few locals and no bartender. Sat at the bar filed out some keno tickets and waiting another 10 minutes. Nothing else in walking distance was open. A group of 10 came in, they also waited. So up to 20 minutes at this point. The bartender came from the back area and started serving the group after us. The drinks weren't what they wanted so she had to redo them. She acknowledged us about 30 min in and we got menus. Didn't offer drinks or run our keno but bitched to a guy behind the bar about her 20 some patrons and no one having beverages yet. Another guy walked in he was being helped so we left. Got a frozen dinner at Safeway and a couple 6 pks. I can only rate the service it was awful and very unwelcoming. Saved us 100-200$ anyway. read more

Icky experience at this establishment - and infuriating response. Found a human hair in my fish and chips. When I showed it to the server and handed it to him, bits of batter still clinging to it, he informed me that he would have to charge me for this entree. He said it was food hygiene 101, that a hair is actually not considered a foreign object. "Now if it had been a paper clip, or something like that, that would be another story. Even a fingernail clipping, because that's sharp." So he charged me for this miserable plate of French fries and greasy fish which of course I never finished. And actually made this ridiculous argument. He also told us to take our masks off. Seemed irritated we had them on before the food or drink were brought to the table. I'd give it 3.5 if possible but it's not. I'll start by saying I'm a vegetarian so I'm already screwed in a town like this...but I had two options-a Chicken Cobb salad without the chicken (which is what I ordered) or a veggie sandwich which the waitress said would have lettuce, tomato and onion on it. Come on...it's 2016...at least have a decent veggie sandwich on the menu. It's not hard. Add some avocado, sprouts and maybe some artichoke hearts, then broil some cheese on top and presto-a decent vegetarian sandwich! When I asked the waitress what beers they had she just brought me an index card with handwritten options available. Classic. Of course I ordered the IPA. Smart. Apparently I cannot attach the photo along with my post so I will add the photo individually on the site. The waitress was friendly and kept calling me "my lady" which reminded me of Game of Thrones. It was a Tuesday evening. There were two other tables of diners there when I arrived around 7pm and I was the last to go by 8pm. All in all, better than going to Subway. The black flies were very annoying. "Hand cut chicken fried steak" was dry and overly spiced (white gravy) as was the mashed potatoes which had too much salt and pepper. Nice neighborhood bar and restaurant. I wanted to eat in the bar but they weren't very well prepared to do that and it took over an hour to get my meal. I ordered the club steak. Was detoured to Lakeview due to snowfall in the Sierras, and after eating here I am pleased it worked out that way. Did the dinner special that night, which began with one of the best homemade soups I've ever had, followed by a standard but solid salad, and then a large thick cut of steak. No one in my party had complaints of their requested doneness level (spanned medium to medium-well). My mashed potatoes were heavenly, next time I'd ask for the gravy on the side (or not at all - they were that good.) Full bar is certainly a plus, solid red wine option. read more

The food is ok, they do not sell breakfast the salad is iceberg and the bartender on Sunday mornings she is not very personable. I feel because we are from out of town and come every month or so we get treated like crap as opposed to the other regular customers that come in. We have been here 3 times and it is the same all the time. Another group of out of town era shared the same thing with us. That is how they feel. We will take our business back next door. Hey Eagles Nest! You guys are awesome! We rolled into town late on a rainy night and were freezing and starving, and there wasn't any other place to eat. We were referred here by a hotel employee and I'll admit I was a little worried at the prospect of trying to get a decent dinner in a bar in the middle of the night... Never judge a book by its cover !! My husband and I both ordered burgers (burgers and sandwiches are all that were being offered at that hour, but hey, whaddya expect). They were much better than I expected, with very fresh ingredients, well cooked, and a pile of crispy fries. My compliments to the chef! The bartender took good care of us, despite being busy with lots of other patrons (some of whom were somewhat drunk and therefore more entertaining than usual). The music got a little loud after a while, but again.. we were in a bar and it was Saturday night. Bless your hearts for being open so late, and offering delicious food to two hungry wanderers. Oh boy what can I say about the eagles nest.... Whoa don't drink to much! You might just wake up somewhere that has cat poop stuck to the bath Mat and a pile of laundry bigger mt Rushmore. Idk just sayin it could happen. Ok on a serious note this place is a lot of fun they've got got a bunch of TVs to watch the games and a couple of ratchet looking pool tables I got fairly decent at playing. The drinks are fair priced and poured right. The crowd is pretty friendly but every so often a fight breaks out. The food is ok I'm a fan of the Cajun wrap, the chicken strips are off the hook too the steaks were just ok and salty. They need to add buffalo wings to the menu for sure.
