Downtown Gentlemen's Salon is a refreshing experience for anyone looking to get a haircut. Lori and newly added Philip are both extremely welcoming and immensely skilled. I have now had my hair done by both and have been equally satisfied. The shop is clean, sleek, and relaxing with continued improvements seemingly every time I come in. For many months I had Lori cutting my hair. She was very knowledgeable about current trends and executed very well. Recently, I stopped in and after selecting a preference for either employee I ended up at Philip's station. I was honestly a bit nervous after having had positive experiences with Lori but Philip was fantastic! He took immense care in what he was doing and I ended up with a great cut and beard trim. I did notice another review claiming high prices and I highly refute that statement. My haircut and beard trim took around 45 minutes and cost me $18 before tip. Extremely reasonable and CHEAPER than chain locations that bust out cuts as fast as they can. I know this establishment has begun the process of getting its liquor license to add a true gentleman salon feel. They have also recently purchased a humidor in hopes of stocking fine cigars (to be consumed off-site). These additions will further my enthusiasm for this establishment. read more

The capacity to understand and follow directions is low. My partner and I both gave specific directions as to how we wanted our hair to be cut. The lady who works at the far left chair is incapable of following basic direction. Over priced for a plebeian town. We do NOT recommend. read more

Was hopeful this would be a true Gentleman's Salon for men's hair and beards. Unfortunately it is not. It's a nice looking place but that's about it. As far as pricing it's more expensive than any barber shop in town. As far as experience and quality trendy fades, tapers, and custom beards I would avoid this place. As far as barber shops go I've been to every barber in Rutland and I would recommend any barber in Rutland over this place. I tried this place out because it is 5 minutes from where I live. My regular barber shop is fantastic but since I moved it's an hour drive for me. I had been going to this barber for 2 years prior to moving and they are tops in Vermont and New Hampshire when it comes to Fresh Fades, tapers, custom beards, as well as cut designs, and women's and children's cuts. I explained to the owner that I had moved and was looking for trendy beard and hair care. She assured me she was experienced and understood what I was looking for. I trusted her enough and decided to get a hair and beard trim as well as a shampoo. The only thing she didn't screw up wash the shampoo. The beard trim was un-skilled and uneven. The hair trim began with a big chunk coming of the back of my head which drastically changed the hairstyle I had for the past 2 years. When she was finished with my hair it was clear I made a mistake. When I mentioned it to her politely her response was: "if you don't like it, it's only hair, it will grow back. Based on that comment and the lack of quality and experience with current trends in men's hair and beards I decided to write this review to caution any man needing a beard trim and haircut go to any other barber in Rutland. If you don't mind the drive and want a high quality current haircut or beard shape up go to Fresh Fades in Charlestown NH. Savannah and Athena will get you in shape for half the price. After my experience at Downtown Gentleman's Salon the hour drive to Fresh Fades in Charlestown NH is well worth the trip! This place is AMAZING! It is exactly what Rutland needed. While waiting I don't have to sit in a cold metal chair, I can enjoy the wait in a comfy leather chair. Lori does a great job and makes the experience enjoyable. I always leave Downtown Gentlemen's Salon feeling much better than when I walked in, Besides for the great atmosphere and comfy chairs Lori's talents are second to none. The end is the best.
