I have to update my review unfortunately. After experiencing glowing skin the night after my facial, I woke up the next day with a (confirmed) bacterial infection. I had tiny white pustules all over my face, and after seeing my dermatologist (who I have seen for over 5 years and he has literally cured my skin) he had no doubt it was some kind of surface infection. He says it happens quite easily during hydrafacials as the skin is so exposed. As much as I enjoyed the experience, and really wanted to try a hydrafacial I will not be returning because of this experience. My skin is still peeling off in sheets from all of the topical antibiotics I had to apply after. I did call the Medispa first before I called my dermatologist and Vanessa thought it was a regular breakout which can happen after hydrafacials. However, this was certainly not the case. While I appreciated the follow up, I will not be returning. read more

Don't use online booking on their website. It's not accurate and leave you with frustration. I booked an appointment and noted at the time of booking that i will be 15mins late and was turned down stating they are fully booked and they did not see my note in the booking. I went for Acne concern. I have frequent acnes and these have caused more scars. I did see Marianna and she did discuss about my concerns and chose acne facial for me. I feel, she might have done it little better. My facial was more like a clean up and the whiteheads were still there on my face. And, the relaxation was missing in this facial. Edit: I am unhappy with the facial. I waited for a week now and the face has lost its glow. Day by day, there are more whiteheads and blackheads. It is a waste of $129. I will not visit again. Marietta is the best! I had been to 3 other laser hair removal locations before I went to Downtown Medspa, and I've never had such quick (and long-lasting) results and as pleasant of an experience as the one I've had with Marietta. And trust me-- I've got crazy thick/curly/dark hair that I didn't think I would EVER manage to get rid of! First of all, Marietta is SO approachable! I've enjoyed the great results I've seen from the laser hair removal just as much as I've enjoyed speaking with her during our appointments. Second, the machine she uses is great-- NO PAIN WHATSOEVER! Additionally, I've noticed that many laser removal tools at other places seemed to get hot and burn my skin, but Marietta's laser hair removal equipment remains cool throughout the entire process. Third, she is very meticulous and makes sure she doesn't miss a single hair or zap the same spot twice. I also really appreciated that she personally called me after our first session to see if I had any additional questions or any complications following the procedure. So considerate! I've had 3 sessions thus far (I signed up for their $800 package for unlimited laser hair removal on any body part that comes with a microdermabrasion), and NO hair has come back! I went here to get my eyebrows waxed because I received a free coupon. When I walked in I was very confused because it looked like a doctor's office. It was crowded, busy, and chaotic. As far as the eyebrows, they came out kind of uneven with stray hairs left underneath. I was not really happy with them. The aesthetician Marianna was the worst ever; never did a consultation with me before the facial...I volunteered To share my skin care regimen with her so that she is aware that I use active products on my skin. If she knew what you were doing, she would tailor my facial to my skin type and regimen. She basically used an alpha hydroxy exfoliant and toner that literally left burns all over my face. I can't go anywhere and I look like a monster. Being that this is a medical spa, I asked her to have her supervising doctor call me And all he could say to me was sorry and just use some Hydrocortizone. I had a Hydrafacial with Vanessa about 6 weeks ago (I wanted to fully see how my skin would react before writing a review). I LOVED what it has done for my skin and I will now exclusively be getting Hydrafacials. I've really been struggling with breakouts for the last year and feel like I have tried everything under the sun. This facial completely cleans out every single pore in a much cleaner, easier, painless way than regular extractions. I can't remember the last time i left a facial not looking red and blotchy from extractions, but i left here looking completely fresh faced. Vanessa also was really great and she showed me pictures of her own skin a couple months ago, and then of course what her skin looked like that day. I brought my mother here to remove her dark spots. They recommended a procedure that would take three treatments. After the second treatment and a complimentary (recommended by Marietta) microdermabrasion, my mother's face was SO MUCH WORSE THAN WHEN SHE CAME IN. My mother is depressed about it and she is walking me down the aisle in a month and a half!!!!!! You can imagine how upset I am. I have not talked to Marietta myself but my mother has. Amazing service, and I researched their machine which is considered to be the "rolls royce" of lasers, which made me feel very safe. I have been petrified of lasers since my skin is so sensitive, so knowing that they have the best equipment, plus the warm and friendly staff who take time to answer all of my questions, put me at ease. The atmosphere is great, the staff very professional, and and procedure is as good as it gets. The icing on the cake are the great rates that they have which I'm guessing will not last and is only running now that it's new. AVOID! I had bought a groupon for microdermabrasion as I had clogged pores and wanted to clear them up. I got the microdermabrasion treatment and it made ZERO difference in my skin. The esthetician told me that I needed a peel and that would work better for my skin type. I ended up a package of peels because it seemed like a decent deal. Once I got the first peel I was told to buy a very strong sunblock as it is necessary after a peel. They suggested I buy the brand they sell which was about $50..I have oily skin and generally most sunblocks are very heavy for me. They of course told me this would be perfect and of course if felt like an oil slick on my face. After finishing the package of three peels...which in my mind should have made some difference in my skin but it didnt at all. I have no idea what she put on my face (maybe just lotion?) but my skin never peeled at all and in the end looked the same. At my last appointment I expressed this concern to her and she basically said maybe microderm would be better!! What?! You told me to get a peel package! All in all I spent $550 here and it was a WASTE. Terrible terrible terrible. Save your money and your time. Go somewhere that the esthetician knows what the hell she's talking about. read more

The facility is very clean and hygenic, the hair removal machine is state of the art. The technicians are highly qualified. Love, love, love this place! The staff is so friendly and the location is great, 2blks from the Grove Street Path station. It's not a super fancy or pretentious spa (fine by me!), but very bright & clean and a nice family business too. The head doctor is board certified in NJ and NY, and his wife is the lead technician, both highly trained and professional. They are both really nice people and their staff are really nice too (adore Daniela! She's amazing!) Got my lower legs done here in 4 sessions and no pain whatsoever. Great deal too, their rates are VERY reasonable. Just decided to go for it so I'm ready for next summer. I'm asking my husband for more sessions for other areas as a Christmas present (lol). Like another reviewer said, they have an amazing machine. I always wanted to do laser treatment but heard it was painful, but not so in this case. You do have to follow protocol and use sunscreen on the area for a bit afterward, and they ask you to fill out a comprehensive survey to make sure you know all about what to do before and after (i.e. no lotion before treatment, etc.). I recently went to Downtown Medspa for laser hair removal under my underarms. The office is clean, and the staff is very friendly. I never have had to wait for my appointment, and they go pretty fast. I'm usually in and out within 20 minutes. So far I have had 3 sessions, and the change is dramatic. I went from shaving my underarms daily, to once a week. I am eager to see how it looks when I am done with the 6th session. It is nearly painless, and nothing compared to waxing. Once I complete my underarms I will definitely be moving on to other areas. And, did I mention the pricing is amazing!
