Fort Knox but for your old stuff.
    Todd M.

We've stored our stuff here for nearly 3 years and have been extremely happy with the security and service. It's in an ideal location - just off the freeway so if you have a U-Haul you don't have to navigate too many city streets. Plus they have several loading docks to accommodate any amount of stuff. With any storage facility the biggest concern is security. And this place is locked up tight. The entrance is like a command center with TVs and monitors. It's staffed from open to close and everyone has to sign in and out. That's awesome. Once you're inside, there are cameras everywhere and all the windows are wired to an alarm system. There's probably a few security snipers in the rafters - but don't quote me on that.

    13th street loading dock.

Oops! I was a dummy beforehand when I said there was only one dock, as there are actually two. Upgraded to a full 5 stars!

Great staff, seamless service. Would recommend this company to anyone! I toured a unit and rented it same day.

Main issues: 1. pricing lies (a bait&switch style of pricing). 2. Automatic "insurance" that covers…read morevery little. 3. Their online account access. 1. Ignore promotional pricing - once it's over they happily increase monthly rent by 70% of the normal rate. READ: PRICE WILL INCREASE ON THE 4th MONTH. This is consistent and likely an established business practice. Case 1: promo pricing was 50% off first two months. Large (intentionally nonspecific) unit- $136 "normally" with $68 as rate for promo pricing. Rented in June. Then, rate jumped by $88 to $224/month. Given notice in last week of September (25th) for November new rate start. After raising a stink they dropped it by $22. That's still $66 over what I budgeted. Case 2: Had to get a 2nd unit last day of move and didn't have time to go to a different place (believe me, I would have). A smaller unit at $42/months as "standard rate" (October '25). Promo discount of 50% for first 2 months. Notice received in December (26th) that rate will increase to $75 starting February. Again, over 70% increase in cost. And $33 above budgeted. Like clockwork. They claim: [*Warning - eye roll following reading their statement may cause pain*] "We understand that any change in pricing is significant, and we want to assure you that this decision was made after careful consideration. Our team is dedicated to providing you with the best possible storage experience, including ongoing maintenance and upgrades to our facilities." I watched this building get built. It's new. Upgrades..? No. Maintenance, okay but what kind of incompetence didn't plan for that in initial pricing? It's not incompetence. It's shady and unethical. Cowards. What does $100 get you every month? 2. They make you pay upfront for insurance at $12/mo that covers up to $2k. I suggest not storing items at $200 a month if it's all worth less than that. I gave my documents quickly. I was still charged (for first unit) and had to ask them to refund me since I was charged again. I got a second unit as noted - under the same account, passcode, email etc. They still preemptively charged that insurance despite my private policy being on file already. Needs more refunds again. Very dumb. 3. They have an online account (kinda) but it's limited in function to strictly facilitating them getting your money. You cannot see itemized statements. You cannot submit or view documents. You can update your basic info and payment info and see payment history (only total they took from your account so nothing useful). You must request actual itemized statements EVERY MONTH if you want to see what that extra fee is for. Only positives are the doors work and it's relatively clean. But it's new...we'll see how far their maintenance goes. Go elsewhere.

I have had a 10x14 storage unit at this facility for just over a year and, in that time, my rental…read morefee has been increased by more than 150%. When we started, my "introductory rate" was $103 and the following month it was $183. 3 months later, it was increased to $246 and, at the beginning of this year it was increased again to $279. There is an ongoing promotion and special introductory rate combo where the same size unit is $51 for the first 2 months (the promotion states "Half Off 2 Months") and then $102 after that. Upon seeing this, I thought I might go into the facility to try to negotiate my rental and was met with absolutely no flexibility. I was told that the current promotion and subsequent rental fee was only a promotion and did not represent the complete cost of the unit. When I asked if there was anything they would be willing to do to work with me, they simply stated that rent increases are normal for everyone and they were unable to make any adjustments. So, I will be vacating my unit before the end of this month because of these unreasonable increases.

I was personally…read moregreeted each time by the friendly and attentive front desk staff, especially the two female attendants. Two different experiences I think prospective customers will find useful: 1. I wanted to downsize a few months into being there when I had settled into my new place and expected to be told to wait until a new month but I was able to move that day. 2. The amazing customer service in this case cemented Downtown Storage as my future company of choice forever! I got a bigger apartment and was gradually moving my things, I met someone at the unit to sell some storage tubs and dropped the money outside my car by accident, I thought I'd dropped it somewhere between my car and apartment though. Within 10 minutes I had a voicemail from Monica (one of the attendants I mentioned above) to let me know I had dropped something (my cash). No one would have ever known the difference and I never would have thought I lost it there, it was not a large sum, $10, so it would be unlikely anyone would cause too much of a fuss, and she not only put it aside but also took the time to call me and leave me a sweet message, even held onto it at the front desk for 2 days until I could make it back into finish moving my things out. On top of that, I moved out on the 3rd and instead of needing to give 30 days or pay an entire month, I paid a prorated amount, not something that is usually done other places. The facility: They have 4 bay parking spots w/ 6+ street parking spots that are almost always available. Unheard of in Downtown Portland's Pearl District. Inside is immaculate and well lit. The units are all indoors keeping belongings safe and temperature controlled. There is a wide array of unit sizes and dimensions, as well as having a significantly lower price point than competitors in the Pearl, all of Portland Metro really. Cons: If have any complaints (they would never stop me from returning or recommending to someone else) is that the hours are limited with no after-hours entrance, which I think is to keep homeless persons from camping inside rather than the street which is a huge problem during the pandemic and the city is a ghost town. ( I understand this is a thing at the Public Storage nearby). And there is usually a tent or two across the street with loads of flotsam and shopping carts that they never seem inclined to clean up after themselves. That is not something they are responsible for but it is off-putting.

A couple of weeks later, I had to put some things in the storage unit and Isaac was kind enough to got a step stool out just in case I need it. The TLDR summary is -- stay away and find a different solution for storage! Public Storage offered a good initial price compared to competitors in the area, offering me a large storage unit for $424/month. I expected an increase, as it is known that this industry lures you with low initial pricing, but the experience I had is nothing short of "predatory". In the 4th month, the price increased by 39% to $593. I was surprised by the magnitude of increase but continued using the storage unit. About 6 months into my lease, I experienced a first break-in where a pry-bar was used to open metal corrugated doors on the unit, by bending them out of the tracks. My storage unit was at the end of their building, and they did not have adequate security camera coverage. Multiple items were stolen from my storage unit, which amounted to an eventual ~$1500 payout from their third-party insurer through Orange Door. Public Storage was not able to provide another large unit that could fit the contents at the time, so I had to move some more valuable items out (time/effort/expense) and asked them to repair the unit as soon as possible and install a new security camera that covers the end of the building. It took them over 2 weeks to install a plywood cover over the broken door, and 3 months to repair the door (without further securing it). I left Public Storage a key to my unit to facilitate the repair but had no idea it would take 3 months like this (more later). Throughout the whole ordeal, I also was never successful in getting any additional security/lighting or protection added to this part of the building. Shortly after this horrible experience, I was contacted (8 months in) and told that the price was increased to $755/month - a 78% increase since starting the lease. After spending a good amount of time on the phone, the local office reduced that to $633 for "3 months" and I started to make plans to vacate the unit. After planning to move out, I returned to the unit to find that more items had been stolen from the storage unit. Since this happened while Public Storage had access to the storage unit, I contacted their management and suggested they investigate (and filed another police report). They claimed that another break-in had occurred, and they had already repaired the unit again. They had not reached me about either the break-in or the 2nd repair. Throughout the issues, I found it difficult to contact the company representatives. They do not really work through email or text messaging and often don't answer the phone during business hours. I also made 3 separate trips to try to collect the shared key during clearly posted business hours, but there was not employee available onsite. When I did reach local representatives, they were generally nice and helpful. At the end of the ordeal, I asked for a 1-month credit due to poor security and overall experience. This was granted and showed up on my credit card, and I put this behind me (or so I thought). Several months after putting this behind me, I was contacted by a regional office for Public Storage claiming that I was granted a one-month refund that I should not have received. I explained this over the phone to the regional representative, and his attitude was one of complete ambivalence as I relayed all of the issues at which point he told me to pay, or he would send my account over to a collection agency.
