Everything was fine for the first few months, they drew us in with a great deal - 1/2 off our first two months. We paid $40/month for the first two months, then the price would go back up to $80 regularly afterward. Not even 4 months into using them for storage, they sent us a notice saying our rent was going to increase. IT DOUBLED IN PRICE. Went from $80 a month to $160, within 4 months. They also gave us 30 days notice about the change, so we really couldn't make a change or move companies quick enough to avoid the rent increase. DO NOT USE THEM. Rent from a local company, or read the contract very very well. We will be moving. read more

This place is average as far as storage facilities go. Not too bad, not too good, but they have raised the price on us twice in less than 9 months for a total increase of $220. And there is no sign of stopping. I fully expect them to do it again in 6 months or less. They figure that it's too much hassle for people to switch units and that folks will just eat their crappy price increases. The sad thing is that they are probably right. They have not changed the security systems . It is very easy to get in and out as they allow 24hr access to elevators here when they should be turned off at closing . They also lie about overnight security. As you can see from past reviews this has been happening for years . This is a case of gross negligence on the owners part . Thieves can access any level and roam around freely for hours . With the ability to see what's in your unit simply by looking over your unit door . If your unit is broken into and you are far away they have no protocols in place to ensure your items are safe . They simply leave it open, your items can be taken by whomever passes by. There cameras will not do anything in case of theft . You won't have access to the footage as they will deny you the access . You will be sent on a loop . Also the 5 star review by Micheal B is a fake review created by them . As you can see the account is recently created and the only 2 reviews are for secure space in 2 different locations . I began renting here early last year and will be leaving soon. There was an intro offer for $33 for 3 months. Since then my rent went to ~67, then 78 then 118, and now 200 per month. Expect to be slowly taken for all of your money if you rent a unit here. read more

We have several rented units housing items for our small business. We love the location, however, we have been broken into 2 times in the last 4 months and have lost approximately $12,000 in goods. The locks on each unit need to be completely changed in order to properly secure the door. Thieves are drilling out the simple cylinder lock and there's no way to add an additional padlock. read more

Secure Space storage, located on NW 16th, is a price gouging scam. They publicly Advertise the first 2 months with a supposed 50% monthly storage price of $125+ fees = $140 mo, is the introductory price, (not 50%). Then, 90 days in, they increase the price by another $60, total of $200 per month for med 10x10 storage room. Further, the elevator only access requires 10 digit entry code each time, and if elevator is in use or between floors, it removes the code and one has to repeat code entry, a time consuming experience. Secure storage constantly sends nanny notifications to text and emails, reminding you of payments before the payment is due, and multiple reminders per month. The system is electronically managed and you quickly realize, (pricing escalation) greed is central to the predatory nature of this corporation. One nice item is onsite manager on premise is kind and helpful. Advised SS yesterday will move in 30 days time. This is difficult to execute as I'm disabled, live in subsidized housing due to lower income and retirement, after 25 years of public service. Please use caution when using this place. read more

Do not rent a unit here unless you do not care about having your belongings stolen. 4 units on one floor broken into in a single week. I opened my account/unit at the beginning of October and by the evening of the 13th my unit had already been broken into. Thousands of items were taken. I found out about the break in when I attempted to get into my unit and the lock had been changed. At this point the office was closed so I had to wait until they opened the next morning. In the morning they confirmed that they had not replaced the lock so we drilled the new lock out and when opened, saw that thousands of dollars worth of my belongings had been stolen. It has been determined that the thief climbed up and bent the bars to gain access. Once inside the locks provided have a bolt that can be losend to open the unit from the inside. The thieves then had the ability to change the lock and come and go as they pleased. my unit, was pilfered through and many tubs and boxes were taken. As soon as it was determined that a break in had occurred, I filed a police report and an insurance claim through SecureSpace. I then found a many of my items being sold on Ebay. I ordered one of my own items, stolen from my unit, and found the name and address used. Using this, I then found the name of someone who lived at that address at the same time as the person listed as the seller on ebay. THAT person had an account and unit at this SecureSpace location. It took several days for the security camera footage and keylogs to be searched despite supposedly having a loss prevention officer working full time. They showed that the thief was in and out of the building multiple times while this was all happening. Eventually, the thief was evicted from the building and the items still in their unit were left behind. I was then told that there was a possibility that either the manager or I(accompanied) would be able to get their unit open and try and see if any of my belongings were still inside. Despite this, I was then told that it would take an additional 90 days for them to have access and that they would inventory items and see what matched with my insurance claim/police report. I had literal thousands of items stolen. They are not all going to be listed individually. Does this mean that the items not specifically mentioned will not get back to me? Who knows? The website specifies that there is overnight surveillance providing "Dedicated security surveillance during nighttime hours". This is false unless you count the cameras that area already mentioned as round the clock digital recording. These cameras are not monitored overnight and only record the parking areas, the front doors, and the elevators. Nothing is monitored inside of the building past that. Anyone can climb into any unit if they are alone without being seen or noticed. Through all of this, the manager, liz, has been very friendly and as helpful as they can be. That is literally the only reason I'd even afford this awful place a single star. Way to go Liz. 90 days to even see if any of my belongings are in the unit of a thief who had more access that the company seems to. Unreal. read more

Signed up online, came to move in because online it says the access and move in time is until 10pm. That was not the case. I had to come in the next day and check in with a friendly guy there, but my storage unit was extremely far from the entrance and they didn't have any available carts for moving. I decided to cancel it right after I saw it and they said they could not refund the $30 admin fee. Unless you want to have to walk extremely far to get to your unit and wait for the elevator to free up, don't use this place. read more

Im unable to respond to the owners comment on my first review but after moving out of my storage unit and filling out all necessary paperwork to be covered for 2,000 (1/5 of the loss), being told it will take 2 weeks for the claim to be settled, it has been 2 months and i still have not received my remittance! I got an email 6 weeks ago saying it was being processed, still nothing, and ive contacted the insurance company about the status- with no response. Extremely disappointed in this company. Store your valuables here ONLY IF YOU WANT EVERYTHING STOLEN. This has got to be the least secure "secure space" self storage. I unfortunately had to store my entire life in this unit, only to return to a completely cleaned out unit. It's important to note that although the walls in these units are tall, they do not have a fully covered roof. My key lock was untampered with which leads me to believe this was either done by an employee or someone who prowls on customers by crawling over the walls. Regardless I am disgusted with the lack of assistance from this business as I trusted them with my entire life. The cameras and security in this establishment serve no purpose. The front desk employee would not review camera footage and told me "what do you expect, this is Portland". PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THIS BUISNESS. read more

I've moved into two units here recently and it's been great working with staff, particularly Heather, to get set up. They are friendly, efficient, professional, and flexible. (Such as, I decided I need more space in a larger unit, and they are switching me with no more paperwork or admin fees). They are great at setting a move in time, the facility is clean and safe feeling, and the rates are competitive, especially for a main floor heated space. The non-profit I work with has been at this facility for a few years. We had great, helpful friendly service, but recently new management has come in and they are rude. They will be sitting in the office with the door locked and a sign saying "Sorry you missed us", but no hours posted. Just the other day I stopped by to pay a bill. I was 3 minutes early and he wouldn't open the door. I went to my unit, came back out and the "Sorry You missed us" sign was up 10 minutes after opening! When we did get in, he said our accounts were overdue. Luckily we had the receipts with us saying we had paid in full. Whay wasn't the account updated in the computer? We miss Heather! The woman who used to work there and is praised by others on this site. But she left becasue the new management was disrespectful to her. read more

Reserve your unit online, sure! Do all your self verification so "you don't have to come into the office and do it. Your key will be left for you inside your unit." False statements. Their online system will let you reserve and PAY for days that are actually unavailable to lease. Meaning you MUST go into the office even upon full completion of your verification and payments. Your key WILL NOT be left for you inside your unit. If they are not in the office then, too bad. Also their online number will just leave you on hold forever if it is after 5pm so don't bother with that. I was not given an access code so I had to call to get it. Once I got the code it just said access suspended on the pin pad. So I waited for someone to come out. Found my unit. Surprise, surprise it was locked with no key 2 days after I leased it. Then the next day comes around and they are taking a nice 3 hour lunch during peak hours, and the "prompt service" phone number, no one ever called me back from either. So that is 2 days paid for that I was not given access to my unit that it specifically said I would have access to by completing the verification. What else do they possibly need?
