Do Not Get A Smog Here!!! They are a scam and they will fail you and try to trick you into getting a diagnostic. I took my car here for a smog and it failed. They lied and said that my car would not hook up to the machine and it was not able to communicate with the computer but they gave me a print out with codes. They charged me for absolutely nothing. Excellent consumer experience from Eric and the guys. I was recently in Palm Springs from Los Angeles - and heard a repetitive noise as I drove around in my 30 year old Jeep Cherokee. I immediately took it to the Shell Station on Indian Canyon - where I had an incredible experience in Dec 25 (at that time I had a nail in my tire that on a rainy Dec 23 they were able to fix in 10 minutes for $30). They explained to me a $149 diagnostic charge (thank you for being very upfront - I do not expect free service). Within 20 minutes they contacted me and walked me through the noise issue. Then 20 minutes later they outlined another issue with power steering - that seemed about right based on repair history - that I could fix with them - or wait till I got back to LA - I decided to go for it. That involved some complication with finding a bracket - which they were able to do at a junkyard. Point is - with a 30 year old vehicle - whenever anything goes wrong - other things can go wrong when you pop the hood. They walked me through every single issue - gave me my options - and in doing so - made me completely comfortable with spending the money and getting the repairs with them. Picked up the vehicle the next day - it was ready early since they got the part at the junkyard the next morning. Noise was gone - it drove great. This was excellent service for a 1995 vehicle - and now back in LA and it is driving great. Highly recommend this professional and friendly service station. And - and - they washed my vehicle and cleaned up the wheels - the car looked great! This was such a great experience. read more

Terrible experience. Always got gas here so decided to get a vehicle smogged for transfer. Older Mercedes that has always passed with flying colors (as recent as March of this year). Tech was slow, not interested, not personable, took forever, and grabbed lunch while I was standing there waiting. Took almost an hour and they said car failed and designated as a gross polluter!! Again, car passed approximately six months ago (only 700 miles added since). Charged me over $130 for nothing. Tech was dismissive and rude. Immediately drove car to another local shop. I recently returned to Palm Springs after 4 years away, I lived here for 25 years and enjoyed having my cars serviced here. My 2005 Ford F105 Lariat's AC failed after driving across country and Ken and his team diagnosed and rebuilt the system and it cools better than it did when new. He let me keep it for the two days for the parts to come in so I was able to get a couple of competitive prices and they were a lot higher on the labor alone. I have always found this shop to be fair and honest. It is nice to know a auto repair business I can trust. read more

I went in for an oil change; I was told I needed a whole new oil pan (stripped plug), front brakes, tires, etc. I opted to only do the oil pan at the time considering it was $700. This was in September. Today, I had my mechanic come out to change my brakes. He wouldn't replace them since he said they've only been worn 1/8 inch. I am so disgusted that they took advantage of me. MANAGER RICK CONTINUES TO LIE. I've been a long time customer (over ten years) with managers Glenn and Jasper always doing their best to provide me honest quality service. A couple weeks ago, I took my car in for service - just a simple oil change and tire rotation, and the newer manager, "Rick" told me his "oil change guy" had to take a sick day. I had to leave on a trip for a week so I decided to bring my car back this week. Again, Rick says his "oil change guy is not in today, come back tomorrow." A third time I call and he says, "My oil change guy had a family emergency." I ask him if any of his mechanics, or even himself could change the oil since he's coming close to losing my business. This perturbs him and he tells me there's plenty of other places that can give my car an oil change and he HANGS UP ON ME! Wow! I figure he probably isn't making the bucks on an oil change and tire rotation, so this is the way he treats customers. read more

They sold me use parts for my car as new when I took it in to have the brakes fixed. It nearly cost me my life..they wore out quickly ( more rapidly than new parts would) and I had a drive to big Bear and my breaks gave out, just on the return back to Palm Springs...had that happened on tje mountain drive...it would have been disasterous, if not fatal. I had the car taken in by Kelly Auto repar..and examined, amd was informed that the break syatem that were sold to. me was used, and old... And that This garage has the reputation for shady work. The garagge manager there, Jasper is very dishonest and unpleasant. I called them about this and he told me - They would refuse further busniss from me & I would not be able to bring my car ther for repair any more. As if I would EVER after tat experience...Instead of a refund and or an aplogy. They were lucky I didnt have the time and or money to sue them. Best car wash and employees are just great I interact with, I have been going to this business since 1990.

My brake lights were staying on all the time, even when the ignition was turned off. I did some research online and discovered that the likely reason was a broken plastic thing on the brake switch. In fact, there were little plastic pieces on the floor of the car, evidence that the plastic thing had disintegrated and fallen out. I got the part at O'Reilly for $9.99 but there were no instructions and the videos online were very confusing. So I stopped by Downtown Shell to see if they could help me with the installation. At the service desk, when I explained the situation, the man said they could do nothing "until they diagnose the problem." He insisted that just replacing the plastic thing could not possibly fix the problem of brake lights staying on, and instead I would have to get a new brake switch for about $100. This was contrary to the advice of two other mechanics and countless YouTube how-to videos. I told him this and again he lied to my face and told me the plastic thing replacement would never work. I find being lied to for the purpose of ripping me off detestable. I walked away, intending never to return. Back home, with the help of a friend, we got the plastic thing installed and it worked like a charm! Brake lights now only come on when I step on the brakes. Shame on this shady outfit lying to people and taking advantage of their lack of automotive knowledge. Luckily I was armed with a little knowledge about the issue and I avoided being ripped off by yet another disreputable and dishonest Palm Springs mechanic. Shame on you, Downtown Shell. You have lost a customer for life and you can bet I will recommend to anyone who will listen never to patronize your despicable business, not even to fill the tank with gas. read more

After being a customer for more than 40 years we are moving on. This place has gone downhill since the old owner left. They charge $2 extra for large vehicles and I was there for more than 2 Hours and nobody's car nobody's car is getting cleaned on the top they charge the $2 for the extra work but do not do the extra work. When I get inside of my truck my floorboards had mud all over them. There was mud all over my truck. They do not wash the top of the car and do not clean you're sunroof. I spoke to the owner and he seemed very Apologetic, But knew of the situation. They have brand new ladders that they bought in order to climb up to get on top of the top of cars but they do not use them when I asked the guy about it he told me he did. They sent the car through 2 times and both times still neglected to clean the top when I opened my sunroof my it is still filthy. We have still been going with a few hiccups but our normal routine is we have to go through the car one more time down the street with our own rags. The guy that supposedly washed the roof of my car told me that he did use the ladder. I stood by the ladders the whole time. I went back and told thee owner. He knew the guy wasn't doing the top and watched as well. I told the guy if you charge 2 extra dollars, to wash the top and the sunroof. He got argumentative and said he did use the ladder. I told him that is a lie, we watched twice. He called me a liar. He started getting mouthy and loud. I engaged him and turns out he was a little b*tch, and did not want any. He actually hid like a coward until I left. We have been bringing a fleet to them for years. I explained to the owner we were not coming back unless the guy apologized. The owner apologized, but the guy would not and continued hiding The owner said its because he cannot find the employees. Sad to see my ol car wash I've been going to since I was a kid being run to the ground. We will be moving to grand prix in palm desert. read more

WORST experience ever due to Jasper Jarel, the "Service Manager." Jasper was a complete jerk literally from the moment I walked in, for some unknown reason. A very cold vibe from the first second. I needed an oil change and he gave me a hard time about the oil type that I requested. He was so condescending and rude. I also asked if they could diagnose a hose that was dangling underneath the car. Jasper seemed exasperated by this request (how dare I ask a service center to perform a service on my car) and again was condescending to me. I requested to be contacted with the result and any extra charges for the solution. Jasper called me after an hour to let me know my car was finished, and when I asked about the dangling hose he rudely said, "We cannot determine what it is." When I returned to pick up my car I expressed frustration that they didn't attempt to diagnose the problem, as I had requested. Jasper became extremely volatile and began berating me and yelled at me that he didn't want to do any work on my car. He informed me that I was being recorded on camera and on the phone (ok, that's great). He also started taking pictures of me and my car as I sat in it talking on the phone. Honestly I think that Jasper may have been on drugs because his behavior was so bizarre, his employer should probably test him. I paid for my oil change and went down the street to another service center, where they were extremely helpful and kind and within 3 minutes diagnosed the issue and solved it. I paid them for their time. Bottom line, HORRIBLE experience at this Shell station due to Jasper being needlessly rude and volatile. I don't recommend that anyone go here. read more

Today I was denied a carwash because the same car I've been here with for years is suddenly too low to wash. I'm guessing someone had troubles with their car getting wrecked by these people, so whatever. They made a big scene out of denying me service. I got a check in the mail from this shell station that my insurance wrote them for my car repair. The repair occurred 9/28/17, the check was dated 10/23/17 and has a six month expiration as most checks do. This check was mailed to me Friday, 7/6/18. EIGHT MONTHS LATER! I have no idea why the check sat in the Palm Springs shop for eight months, or why they decided now was the time to send it to me; luckily AAA cut me a separate check and mailed it to my home, otherwise I would never have been reimbursed. read more

Responsive when your are in a pinch. Classic travel tale. Car gets a pebble in the brake lining - can't be driven. And have to return to San Francisco. The car arrived at 4 PM of Friday, one hour before closing. Within the hour the called, and handed me the pebble, road tested it, and my anxiety was calmed. They seem like a good team. The service was so affordable - $50 for solving this crisis. And while you wait, go check out the art museum .. just a few blocks away. read more

My car was due for an oil change earlier this year and after I pick the car up and drove home, the splash debris guard underneath my car fell out and couldn't drive it. I call the station and explain what happened and had a tow truck tow it back in to be repaired. Recently I did the exact same thing at this station and my splash debris guard came apart again. I talked to the new guy in charge there and he refuse to repair it and told me that we put it back together as well as we could as a courtesy to me. He suggested that they could order a screw kit and when I repeated that he said this to me over the phone, he literally lied and said he never said such a thing. He's dishonest, very poor customer service and I'll never bring my car into this Shell station again. read more

this gas station/repair shop misdiagnosed my car and almost caused a freeway accident i came there because my car was not consistently starting up. first the sales manager, jasper recommenced i get a replacement batter for $220 which i did not need since my battery checked out fine. secondly,he also said the alternator was working well. i got on the freeway and all the operation systems died in the car. i towed it to a legitimate place and they said the alternator needed replacement. i replaced it and the car drives well. don't get conned, avoid this place. go at your own peril read more

UPDATE: I had posted this review to the wrong location, my apologies to the folks in the north end of town. I have since taken review off the other location and am now posting on the correct location I visited las week. This place quickly going downhill, will not come back! Morning cashier asleep at the register, a bit clueless and doesn't speak English. But the bigger problem is the guy answering the phone and taking your case. Immediately you sense his stress and unhappiness as you interact with him. Abnormal and erratic behavior... oh and "speedy", I sense he may be on drugs. I came here for a smog test as advertised online. First, when you sign the paperwork he ignores you as he walks away from you, out of his tiny office without giving you instructions. Will it take an hour? 30 minutes? Should I wait around, or go and come back in the afternoon? Almost as if he does it on purpose in order to get you to ask him questions. Once you ask questions, that's when he starts belittling you and treating you as if you should know better. When the car was ready I asked him a question about the bill, as the non-English speaking cashier was charging me more than what he had quoted me. A simple question. For that he raised his voice again, began disrespecting me, says, "you should know this, you've been here before". Interesting enough, the last smog test I had done at this station was four years ago. I explained to him I'm not familiar with the day-to-day operations and fees they charge at this station. He raised his voice again, continued responding with rage and a sarcastic laugh at the same time. Scary. I'm hoping the owner reads these reviews for the better of his/her business. I can't imagine why any business would trust such a despot and arrogant employee to be the welcoming committee for his local customers. read more
