My friend and I stopped in for a boozy slush. (Which I am not a big fan of taste of alcohol so just tried hers...and YUMM. ) But my review is going to focus on the food. As soon as my friend and I tasted our food...I stated this was no "line cook" type of food. The combination of flavors in both our meals were astounding. Some of the best fried fish I've ever had AND it's gluten free. The boneless chicken wings melted in our mouths, and the sauce (Kona BBQ) was on point. well I'm obsessed. Doxie Slush has amazing drinks. I love this style of drinks/bar, as Narwhals is one of my favorite places in STL, but I'd argue that Doxie is better. I just liked the flavors more and the option to order food there. Food was delicious and I was very pleased that they offered vegetarian options. We got wings and sea salt french fries which were delicious. The staff told us that their chef is from NYC - how random and awesome is that? I loved all the flavors we tried. I was also really impressed by their staff's friendliness and their sanitation practices. I even saw them sanitizing the pillows, one by one. Wow the wings were so good!! Such unique flavors and super tender chicken meat. I can honestly say I've never had more tender wings before! I got the garlic cotija wings and my husband got the pineapple terryaki and both were incredible. The garlic cotija's breading was perfectly crisp without feeling too heavy. The vidalia onion strings added an extra bit of savory sweetness to the already amazing combination of seasonings. Definitely recommend! The guy working tonight said the garlic cotija were his favorite and now I definitely see why. We also split the crab (chicken) mac and cheese. They were out of crab tonight so that was a bummer but the chicken was wonderful too. I can imagine how tasty the crab would be though!! Compliments to the NY chef!! We also tried one of the seasonal slushes - the pumpkin spice old fashioned because 'tis the season. This place is such a fun and unique concept in Hermann. The inside is sleek and modern with an adorable homage to the owner's dachshunds and the incorporated tropical theme. When we arrived, one of the staff members greeted us and went through the menu. He noted that the chef/owner was trained in NYC. Everyone we encountered was very kind and helpful. I ordered the island burger that had grilled pineapple, sharp cheddar, onion strings, and smoked paprika mayo. It came with a side of sea salt fries. My husband ordered the 1/2 lb pineapple teriyaki boneless wings and a side of sea salt fries with the option to add burnt ends. Lastly, we shared a flight of their frozen cocktails. We tried the pineapple bourbon sour, the strawberry amaretto shortcake, and the pumpkin spiced old fashioned. They were all so good and refreshing. Yes there are some super sugary options for those who like that, and a bunch of other options for those like me. We each had a flight of 3, so I got to try 6 flavors.
