I came in for the first time for a doctor's visit for my dog and let me tell ya, the experience and customer service was outstanding! The clinic was so helpful and understanding of our complicated situation, they gave me lots of helpful information. Clinic staff was so welcoming and informative, the receptionist was so friendly as the rest of the staff seems to love being here! It was only later afternoon and I had an emergency so they also let me leave him for day care for a few hours, not to mention my clinic appointment was a walk in. I've taken my pet twice, and BOTH TIMES they've totally scammed me! The first time, they charged over $500 for a check up, but I let it slide because we did have bloodwork done. This time, we called twice to make sure that it would only be $20, which they swore it would be... and today they charge me more than $90!!!!! FOR ONE VACCINE!!!!! All dogs may go to heaven, but I assure you this vet won't! SCAMMER!!!!!! Edit: Also, they tried to charge $3,000 for a teeth cleaning, not including any possible extractions! We were customer of Dr. Boyd's for about 1 - 2 years before this week. There was a hiccup with our dog's heartworm medication and a necessary medical test that was required. Instead of calling us or having a conversation first, they just declined approval on our medication order from Chewy. This left us in a terrible bind. When trying to work through the details of this decline and working towards a resolution, I was met with very rude and inflexible behavior. Further they decided to email me after I expressed my frustration with them via email. This was their response... "Client satisfaction is part of our mission here at Dr Boyds Pet Resort, but our practice does not seem to be meeting your needs. We hope you find another veterinarian who can better serve you. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to care for your pet up until this point. We wish you all the best." They just chose to ignore dealing with this situation and sent that "boiler plate" response. Very very disappointed! Cannot recommend this VET. Money seems to be the driving force of their decisions, not the pet or their owner. read more

$100,000 to $150,000. That is the amount of money that I calculated Dr. Boyd's lost over the 15 year life-expectancy of my dog. I simply want to take my dog somewhere where I am treated, pardon the expression, like a human being and not an animal. Not to say that all the staff are rude, nasty, defensive, or militant, but a disproportionately large amount of staff do fit some or all of these categories. If you dare say you are in a hurry (i've had to speak up to staff three times) staff do not care. One staff member once told me I needed to manage my time better! Being that I have been on time to pick up or drop off my dog 99% of the time, that was simply insensitive and unfair. Things happen. (If she reads this and makes a comment, please disregard since she provoked the incident. Her lack of people handling skills were at the heart of this preventable problem.) Another day, a staff member asked me who was first in line while I was standing at the desk to check in my dog. She quickly became defensive, explaining she was in the bathroom and did not know. While busy defending herself, another staff member took the dog from the person in line behind me. Although my dog was very excited to see her, she just scowled at him. That in and of itself speaks volumes. Later on that day, I called 5 minutes in advance to tell staff when I would be ready for my dog. They said my dog would be ready for me and I still sat around for almost 10 minutes. When I tried to address another staff member for assistance, she snapped at me "I'm helping someone else!" She made no eye contact she just walked away. I wasn't calling ahead of time for fun--I have a job that I need to be on time for, but staff really don't care. So why did I say that Dr. Boyd's Pet lost up to $150,000 over the course of my dogs life span? I found a much better place for my dog. Both he and I are treated with the respect that we deserve. The days of being treated poorly are gone. This five-star daycare is closed on Tuesdays, so Dr. Boyd's Pet Resort is just my back up plan. If the staff at Dr. Boyd's take time to read this review, they need to learn to be more respectful of people. Listen to us. Most of us are really pretty nice people. I've been taking my dogs Layla, Rocky, Daisy, and Cali here for quite a while now. And I have nothing but great things to say about this place. I understand that dogs are kind of wild members of your family to take care and understand that they can be stressed out about going to a place that is not home but The staff and especially management have been nothing but transparent and communicative to me! I understand that one of my dogs (Layla) is a younger pup with LOTS of anxiety but the staff here does their absolute best to try and make her feel at home! And even to my non social dog (rocky) I just know they try there best to make him feel at home there. It makes me sad to leave this review. I have taken three different dogs to Dr. Boyd's for day camp, occasional boarding and an occasional vet visit over the past several years. For the last two years, I have taken my youngest dog for day camp. This place used to be great, but unfortunately it is not any longer and I will not return. I recently started to question whether my dog was out of the kennel to play for the last couple of day camp visits. He used to be tired and smell a little :-) when I would pick them up, but not the last couple of visits. He has had as much energy at the end of the day, as when I dropped him off in the morning, which is very unusual for him. I never said anything to the staff about my concern. Instead, I still had days left on the latest day camp package I had purchased, so I decided to just see if things improved. They did not. The last straw, however, is poor customer service. The same person has been rude to me on the three occasions when trying to make a reservation. Most recently, I simply asked her to repeat Dr. Boyd's new email address and then I called back to confirm receipt of my dog's updated vaccination records, but this was met with sarcasm and a very snotty attitude. This is completely unnecessary! Given the poor attitude and the fact that I'm not sure my dog is even getting to play in the yard at dog camp, I won't be back. read more

I have recently been taking my 9 year old husky to Dr. Boyd's for daycare these last few weeks. I was weary in the beginning because their manager Izzy was not very communicative when I was asking about rates. I called one day and she was supposed to email me over the prices but never did so I sent over an email because I was at work and wasn't able to make a phone call. No response. I finally was able to call and the receptionist was able to send over the prices. Despite not being allowed to tour the facility, I decided to try out a half day of daycare and when I picked him up he seemed like he had enjoyed it. I took him back I believe 3 more times. Two of which were full days. Last night, after picking him up at 7pm from a full day of daycare, I noticed that he had two raw/bloody spots on both paws in the same area. I called and the receptionist informed me that the handler noticed the blood only on one paw. I asked how this could've happened. She said because he was scratching at his door. I was confused because I was under the impression that my dog played the whole time and isn't being kenneled up. They informed me that they kennel all of the dogs at 4:30 and then have another potty break around 6-7pm. Half days are 4 hours long and I bring my dog in at 1:30-2pm and pick up at 5:30-6pm. This means that he doesn't get his full 4 hours if he's being kenneled at 4:30. I mentioned this to the receptionist and she said, "yeah we recommend that you bring the dog earlier in the day so he can be out the whole time." Unfortunately, that doesn't work with my schedule! She also tried to tell me that my dog had anxiety. Any person who knows my dog knows that he DOES NOT have anxiety. She said he was kenneled in a wing where a lot of people are walking back and forth so he can see everyone so that's why he was scratching at the door. So they knew he was scratching but ignored him and let his paws go raw! What's even more irritating is that the handler knew at least one of his paws was bloody and didn't even inform me when I picked him up. He's an all white dog so of course I'm going to notice blood on his paws. Today, I took my dog to get groomed and I of course told the groomer to be careful with his paws. At pick up, the groomer told me she tried to put him in the kennel when she was done but he immediately started scratching and hurting his paws again. I have been taking him to this groomer for almost 3 years now and she said that he's never done this before. She said he's never had an issue being in a kennel before and that he's always super chill while waiting for me. She said today he was acting very nervous so she let him wait outside of the kennel. When I got home, I took him on a short walk and he immediately had diarrhea. His poops are always solid so this was a huge surprise to me since he's been eating his regular food. It just makes me wonder if anything else happened while he was at Dr. Boyd's. If you're thinking about taking your dog to Dr. Boyd's, make sure you get every little detail about how they operate. Or better yet, don't take your pet at all. I told my friend who has taken her dog there and she was completely unaware that they kenneled dogs at 4:30pm. She was told that they play until 7pm. This place seems to nickel and dime their clients (requiring additional fecal tests, vaccinations, etc. and then adding a vet fee.....adding each piece one email at a time) - After all was said and done, one night's stay would have cost me approximately $350 (note that this is for a 6 month old puppy that has gone through the entire puppy vet/vaccination/testing/bloodwork/fecal package at a high end vet in San Diego and goes to daycare 3 times per week at another high-end facility). I decided to look for other options and glad that I did after reading the multitude of negative comments on here. Thanks, Dr. Boyd's for being so greedy.......had you not been, I may have put my dog through a terrible experience! I would suggest that you get it together. When I was in southern California, I needed to find a place to board my dog that also provided veterinary care because he was recovering from an emergency surgery. My mom had taken her poodle here so we gave it a try with my dog as well. It took some back and forth with their administrative team to find out what they needed in order to allow my dog to board. We got a copy of his records for vaccines and fecal, which was just about all they needed administrative wise. Due to it being a holiday week we also were required to put down a deposit to hold our reservation. The manager or assistant manager Izzy was very friendly and nice, and helped us make our reservation. She also emailed me a copy of our reservation information which was helpful for me to keep organized. Despite my mom's dog being a senior, and having aggressive tendencies, they were even open to taking him as well. I was told that the first day, my dog would have a temperament test and they would email me the results. I also told them that my mom's dog and my dog eat together and that they would need to be fed together, and they told me that that would be no problem. Off to a decent start. On the day that we dropped the dogs off it was chaos at their office. I understand a lot of dogs are coming and going for the weekend, but the front desk was really disorganized. I was not confident they were listening to me, but I had to trust that everything was going to be okay. I filled out the forms and handed them the dog food as well as beds. They told me that they would email me the same day in a few hours about his temperament test and where he would be. The first day came and went and no email. I called them the second day they said that it would be coming in an hour and it never came. After I picked up the dog I thought maybe they'll send it once he's discharged, but also no. Even now we still do not have the email, they never ended up sending it. They also told me that they would call me and give me updates they never did that either, not a single time. We sent the dogs with wet food and dry food, and told them specifically that the dogs needed to be fed together. We told them about how to feed them, with dry food on the bottom and wet food on the top. We left them with enough wet food for a whole week even though we were only leaving the dogs for two overnights. Once we picked the dogs up, the entire amount of wet food was gone. Way too much for the dogs, even if wet food was the only thing they ate. I don't understand what happened and they couldn't tell me anything. The worst part was my dog was recovering from surgery and he had to wear a little shirt to cover his stitches area that had scabs on it. I told them that he had extra shirts in his bag, in case he got water or pee on his shirt that they could change it. They told me that they understood and if his shirt got soiled that they would change it. When I picked him up his shirt was completely soiled and crusty and his backup shirts were clean- showing that they never changed his shirt. That made me very mad. They do offer military discount and multi-dog discount, both of which we took advantage of at this occasion. Overall I was very unhappy with my experience. No one ever called me, no one ever emailed me and I got no photos or updates about my dog. Mysteriously all of his wet food went missing (3 whole fillets of poached Alaskan salmon and two full turkey patties), and they never changed his shirt which meant he went the whole weekend with icky stuff on his freshly healing wound. Location is convenient off of major thoroughfare, parking is limited, and prices are high for the experience that we had. I would not likely return here due to the discrepancy between their high price and what they actually deliver. I was expecting a lot more from them given their backing with a veterinary clinic and their high reviews on Yelp. read more

Got recommended this place. We had them watch our 6 month old Belgian Malinios on 2 separate days for about 8 hr each day. First day seemed ok, except his fur / skin was really sweaty and unlike him. Second day he had this patch of missing fur and irritated his nose pretty bad. They said he spilled his food. He does try to bury his food but how long does something like this take? He was probably left alone for a decent amount of time for this to occur. The thing that irritated us the most was they said they would wave the puppy safe care fee this day with no reasoning after seeing his nose I understand why but they didnt even say anything just tryed to distract us with the "waived" fee. First I work God awful hours, this place is open 24/7 for easy drop-off for boarding. Next you can get your veterinarian needs taken care of as well. Also they do amazing grooming for decent prices. They also offer obedience training. My dog came back to me refreshed from his staycation with the other dogs being boarded too! Just like the manager did with another reviewer, they retaliated and banned my dog from staying there again without even a discussion about it. :-( I've probably spent 20k+ over the years at Dr. Boyd's, and this is how we are treated in the end. I brought my senior dog here because she has been sneezing with discharge and is clearly uncomfortable. $350 later the vet recommended a teeth cleaning and ear drops for an ear infection. They said, she wasn't sneezing there and had no discharge coming from her nose. I explained that she had been having uncontrollable sneezing fits with green discharge and they completely wrote us off like we didn't know what we were talking about. I need better for my pet family. time to move on to greener pastures. DISAPPOINTMENT!!! False reporting, my dog starved here, and some of the staff are incompetent. 2 of the 4 days - they didn't feed her more than half of her food. She eats Breakfast, lunch, dinner and breakfast being the biggest meal. I found with her belongings (2) Breakfast bags and (1) Lunch bag. Yet, over the phone when i called daily they said she ate all her meals. But do the math, they basically did NOT feed her more than half her meals, she only received 7/8 (not even 1 cup) of kibble within 4 days. THIS should speak volumes of how they care for your dog. DR. BOYD'S PET RESORT IS FULL OF BS. This "Pet Resort" was more like "Detention Center". My dog boarded here for 4 days, I measured out her food per measurement because each meal has different measurements AND labeled each meal per day "breakfast" "lunch" "dinner". I filled out paperwork of her food and even include simple basic instructions of her food that's already measured out - all they had to do was pour into a bowl and feed her (ex: Breakfast 1/4 cup kibbles, 1/2 tsp of wet food. Lunch 1/8 cup kibbles, 1/2 tsp of wet food. Dinner 1/8 cup of kibbles, 1/2 tsp of wet food). Let me emphasize, I measured all the food out for them per day so all they had to do was pour it into a bowl. I called multiple times a day to check on my dog and I get the same BS response" "your dog if fine, she ate all her food, during her evaluation she entered the small dog playroom shy but she started to build confidence during the day. she is resting in her room right now". 1. "She ate all her food". THAT'S A LIE. When I checked her belongings there was (2) breakfast bags and (1) lunch bag. My small dog eats 1/2 cup of food a day which should equate to 2 cups for 4 days. If I found (2) breakfast bags and (1) lunch bag that equates to 1 and 1/8 cup food they didn't feed my dog. Within 4 days, they only fed her 7/8 cup of food. WOW - unbelievable. When I saw the bags when I picked her up I rushed back in and flipped out. The staff were scrambling to find out why there was left over food and they respond "oh she didn't eat 2 lunches and whatever they don't eat we put back". I know my dog, she's a rescue and has been in foster and rescue orgs, she is not a picky eater and will eat any given time or day even if i am not around. On top of that (2) lunches? Incompetent staff... please pay attention to the details, there were (2) breakfast and (1) lunch. Clearly, they didn't pour the food into a bowl and see if my dog would eat because they are suppose to mix the kibble with 1/2 tsp of wet food before serving. If they mixed the kibble with wet food and she refused to eat that would either be left for another meal or thrown away because you can't put wet food back in a ziplock back like the kibble. Don't try to lie out of their way of getting caught not doing their job when I'm a person very keen to details. 2. "during her evaluation she entered the small dog playroom shy but she started to build confidence during the day". Okay. I placed her in daycare there A WEEK before boarding for evaluation. Why on Earth are you regurgitating notes from evaluation that happened a week ago. I don't want to know how she did a week ago, I want to know how she is that day. Did she cry/socialize/sleep/eat? Simple question that can't be answered because they 1) don't date their notes and read the same sh!t over and over that don't apply to the current date. 2) make it sound like your dog is doing fine (my dog was miserable here). 3. "she is resting in her room". I had a tour and saw the rooms a week before boarding her here. When i dropped her off for boarding i asked to see which room she will be staying in and they said they don't know yet. uh.. okay?! wtf. Then when I called to check if she slept okay each day and asked for them to take a picture of her room they refused me a picture of my dog in her room so I could see her space. We are customers, we are paying HUNDREDS of dollars for our dog to stay here, mind you we are contributing to your paycheck... so why can't I see a picture of my dogs room? I don't get that. 4. They also like to tell people "we don't have cameras but you can call anytime and check up on your dog". So I do that because the few pictures of my dog each day doesn't justify how my dog is being treated. So they hire someone to take a picture of your dog... yet, not every day there will be pictures of your dog. If your job is to take pictures of the dogs, TAKE A PICTURE OF ALL THE DOGS EACH DAY. It is THAT simple. After having a "crazy-dog-mom" moment when I discovered my dog was not fed properly... all the staff said to me was "Sorry about that, we'll note that on her record and speak with the coordinators". My dog starved in your care and you have the audacity to say you will note that on her record. I asked a copy of her record and it doesn't jive with what they claimed. I will never ever bring my dog here again. AND I HOPE YOU DON'T EITHER. read more

We took our Husky King to Dr Boyd's boarding resort this past weekend. We let the front desk know that this was our first time away from him and that he's never boarded before and that we were a little nervous. They assured us that he would be in great hands and that they would take great care of him. We came back sunday to pick him up, and he had been having stomach problems, I packed him up with food for the entire stay in which were dated with the amount in the bag, but there were two bags of food that had not been ate. This was unusual because when we spoke on the phone that weekend they had told me that he was doing great and had no problems eating... After we picked him up sunday night he was experiencing bloody diarrhea and was having a hard time sleeping. we called their front desk around 1:30am-2-00am and a receptionist named Michael did not have any answers to my questions and concerns about my dog. he informed me that he wasn't knowledgeable about animals and that he was just the receptionist there, I then asked to speak to a dr on standby or someone else & he let me know that he was the only employee there... I called the next day and spoke to a manager, Izzy. She told us that it was probably stress related and that it would soon clear up, however it is now wendsday and my poor dog is experiencing bright orange diarrhea & it's honestly very upsetting and saddening because before we dropped king off he was perfectly fine and healthy, and after picking him up it seems like their entire staffing does not care that my dog isn't feeling well. I called our vet and they told us that they would see us right away due to the seriousness off the color of his stool. Dr. Boyd's fails to inform prospective clients what the requirements are for getting your pet accepted into their care. When you call, you get a brusque dismissal from the staff stating "We have no record of your pet and you can't be enrolled without a file.". Does that sound like a company eager for your business? When I send the records in from my vet (supposedly a business partner), I'm told. " Well, one of your pets is too 'old' to be in our care." I spoke to another prospective client of theirs, who informed me that after months of trying she 'still' was unable to get her pet in. Is it really so hard to write up a brief description of what you require for a pet to be enrolled in your care? I had to interrupt the receptionist in her dismissive spiel so I could 'tell' her I was sending the information! I was hoping for a friendly and informative staff, but they were very disinterested with my questions. We had to get a giardia fecal test and when I asked about it they had no idea what the results were. They also didn't let me tour the place because it wasn't between 10 and 2. I thought that was strange. My dog came home parched after about 9 hours of daycare and drank her water for about a minute straight. I wonder when the last time they gave her water. Maybe I'm nitpicking but I didn't get good vibes. I was also told they do pictures throughout the day. But the front desk told me there was no videos or pics. Won't be taking my pup back. read more

A friend had referred me over here for dog training with David McDuffie for my husky mix, Coco. For a husky, he loved to pull the leash on walks and really picked and chose when he would listen to me. It's awesome to see the progress Coco has made! I highly recommend dog training with David. He worked really well with my dog and it's crazy how better behaved he is now. He also worked me to be a better owner, like teaching me the commands and working with Coco and I. The front desk staff and vet services are amazing. Keep up the awesome work! My negative review is for the training department and management. I had a complaint that I wanted to discuss and management was completely unreasonable. When I explained my concerns, they responded with complaints they had for me. This surprised me, since I was never informed of ways in which I had been in misconduct, so I was never given the opportunity to work with them to solve any problems that arose (which I would have been happy to correct). I really hope that management receives training in customer service. I absolutely loved the behavioral work they did with my dog, but I will never return because I felt attacked, and when I asked if they would be willing to work out a compromise of some kind, I was told that I was being unreasonable for not getting what I wanted. At the end of the day, I'm a pretty easy person to please. I'm out a couple hundred dollars because of miscommunication on both parts. I wanted to express my concerns with hope that I could be refunded part of the funds, but I fully expected that it may not have been possible. If management had just apologized and offered my dog a free treat I would have been satisfied, but instead I was aggressively yelled at by staff and management. If you choose to take your dog here, your fur baby will be treated ethically and wonderfully, but do not expect the same compassion towards yourself. read more

We have been taking both our two dogs here for several years now and I can say without a doubt that they really do care about our babies! The main reason we were looking at Dr. Boyd's was because we needed a place to have our dogs play for the day. They offer a multitude of services to include doggy daycare, boarding, veterinarian services, grooming and more! We've taken advantage of daycare and their vet and have had outstanding results! Part of having them at daycare is having to make sure your dog is up on all their vaccinations, which I believe they have established higher standards for the dogs they allow to be there. This is great for our dogs! They conduct an assessment of your dog's temperament and assess how they will be with other dogs. Dang, I forgot they also do training there too! Anyways, the quality of their facility and how well our dogs get treated there is amazing! Quick run down of things to know about Dr. Boyd's: Doggy Daycare is $39 a day from 7 to 7. They have special prices for going past 7pm, but they also have Date Care, from 7pm to midnight, which is currently $25. They do offer military discount. They are also open 24 hours, 7 days a week! They have a webcam so you can creep around and stalk your dogs during daycare. Neat. Parking kind of sucks, but they have 30 min curb-side parking for pickup and drop off just for Dr. Boyd's. Not too bad. Right off the 5 Freeway near Old Town, San Diego Airport, and Downtown makes this place very easy to commute to the surrounding area. read more

I have great praise for the entire establishment, but I would mostly like to express my gratitude and admiration for trainer, Jessica Brennan. My dog (Fern) has been kind of a loveable asshole for most of her life, however in less than a month, she has been reformed. The main issue has been her relationship with other dogs, however her other notable flaws included: pulling on the leash, chasing cats, eating everything in sight, barking at men, etc. I had given up taking her around other dogs and was becoming less inclined to take her around other people either. Jess had always been such a good friend to Fern while she was in daycare, so I decided to go for it and sign her up for a combination of one-on-one sessions with just Jess and also training sessions with me included. After just a few days, I could confidently walk her through my neighborhood without fear of her lunging at other dogs or pausing to eat a hamburger wrapper off the sidewalk. Yesterday morning, she literally made eye-contact with a cat but didn't go after it. This is the single greatest moment of self-restraint in the history of her life. I honestly didn't believe she was capable of it. She can also sit, stay, heal, walk, and come - things I previously thought she was incapable of learning. My whole attitude about my dog has improved since we started training with Jess. She s not only a great trainer but also a wonderful person - a genuine delight. She is also happy to send pictures and videos, so I have all of this great evidence of Fern being a good student! read more

Dr. Boyd's hosted our Boston Terrier Meet-Up group one day and we were very impressed with how much fun the dogs had and it seemed like a great environment -lots of climbing structures, little pools, toys and places to relax. We started using them right away for our little Boston for about a year and a half for routine shots/lab exams and a couple nights of boarding/daycare. That's over! Unfortunately, this place has gone downhill over the last year or so which is very disappointing. Their prices have skyrocketed and they are constantly pushing you to have more overpriced vaccines and lab exams (even if you produce the paperwork that your pet has just gotten the exact ones done in the past few weeks) just to leave your dog there for daycare or boarding for a night. The last (and final) time we took him there for a night of boarding we were in a hurry so we had to dish out the $125 for ONE NIGHT because they needed "their" tests done...again. As if our other vet's recent shots or exams a month ago were BS. When I started expressing my concern, one of the techs took her walkie talkie and said "bring him back". My dog was too excited to be there that I paid up and let him stay. The bottom line is that they're high-pressure and unaffordable for us as a military family (The 10% military discount still had us paying more than other 5-Star reviewed vets) when a 50 night stay turns into 125 (the price has gone up since then too). The staff's attitude goes from sweet and fun-loving to irritated and rude quickly if you don't agree with them or have any questions. Broke my heart to see the change of service. *If you CAN afford it and aren't bothered by unexpected fees, my Boston did seem to have a great time when he'd come here* -I added a star for their A+ bubble baths, they do a thorough job on that and our pup came home squeaky clean. If you have them boarded here for more than one night, add on a bath on the last day or your dog will stink! -Some people's reviews have claimed that it's because they kennel the dogs for long periods of time but I can't confirm that. Just don't skip the bath at the end of a stay. read more

Could not be happier with the decision to board our puppy at Dr. Boyd's resort. After having a horrible experience at a different local boarder, we were clearly on edge to leave our puppy with a new place, but decided to give Dr. Boyd's resort a try. We were able to call 24 hours a day if we wanted an update on our pup and even received 2 phone calls from Dr. Boyd himself letting us know how the pup was doing. Upon picking him up at the end of the weekend the puppy was calm, happy, and looked like he was exhausted from constant and healthy play. The facility makes the Hilton look like a shanty shack compared to the great environment provided from all of the dogs. I would recommend this facility to anyone and everyone. read more

My Fiance and I brought our dogs down to SD for from LA for a quick weekend trip. We have a Frenchie and a Boxer. They were so HAPPY when we picked them up! Our boxer is usually like a different dog (in a bad way) when we pick him up from a pet hotel.... But he came back so happy, relaxed and TIRED! I've never seen him like that after being boarded! They get play time most of the day, which is how it should be! The staff takes the time to assess each dog and put them in a play appropriate group. There were some concerns with our blossoming rescue Frenchie and how she would handle being boarded for the first time, but she was so well cared for it wasn't an issue at all! Both dogs got free baths because we had multiple dogs, which was awesome. For what you get the price is GREAT. I even was able to use a Living Social deal (that's how I found the company); it was honored and made the whole experience even better. They posted pictures of our dogs playing on their shutterfly account, and they have huge smiles on their faces. The staff really is kind and loves animals.... that is very evident. The environment is VERY clean. No qualms there whatsoever. We called to check in a few times and we received very detailed updates, meaning that they knew our dogs and were truly paying attention to them. I'll attach some of the pictures they took :). I love this place. Please open one in LA! There are a ton already here, but what this place brings to the table it will be a hit I promise! read more

Dr. Boyds staff members, veterinarians, and trainers have a love and respect for all animals. We have been coming here with our dogs for a little over a year. I love that there is always a vet around in case of accidents, which do happen! If an accident does occur where your pet needs to see the vet, they will comp for those charges. I have only once seen a staff member who looked unhappy, it was early in the morning and I'm sure she was ending her over night shift and was exhausted. Every other member I have come across are enthusiastic, and they work hard to please you and your pet. They are always happy to see you and your pet walk through the door. As for trainers, I have been working with Rachel and I LOVE her. She has such great knowledge about dog training and gives wonderful advice during the training sessions to help you out with your pet. She has been working with our English Mastiff. He is a very large and strong dog, and she has used a lot of energy to help him. I am so happy with her work! Lastly, yes the prices have increased, but what do you expect to happen when a business is becoming overly successful? Also, you pay what you get. 24/7 care for your pets, vet care on site, they provide food for your pet, and they are constantly playing with others (whether it's in the dog yard or every two hours with a dog handler). Your dog is getting the attention and satisfaction they need when you are not with them. read more

In short, Don't waste your money here. At length, This used to be such a great service, and it's really gone downhill in the last few years. The turnover rate for counter staff is very high now, and the staff that HAS stuck around are inconsiderate, rude, and deliberately don't inform you about hidden extra charges. There used to be a veterinarian on staff on weekdays, and now you're lucky if anyone is available to help at all. One of the reasons I brought my dog here was BECAUSE there was usually a vet on staff who could help if a pet had an emergency while on their site. Why can't Dr. Boyd's keep consistent staff and vets? My dog usually gets fed around 6, and I've told them this every time I've brought him in. It's in his paperwork. Yet once I picked up early, and they'd fed him his dinner at 2:30! They claim it's because they simply don't honor pet's mealtimes. Why ask then? The worst of all is extra charges. Now, they expect you to update vaccines that shouldn't (according to several vets I've spoken to) be given more than once a year EVERY FOUR MONTHS, and they now charge extra to completely isolate your dog and not play with them if you don't adhere to their ridiculous and dangerous vaccination policies. I asked for a vaccine record after the last three visits with sudden new vaccine requirements (literally every time, I have been told a different vaccine needs updating due to this 4-month policy) to ensure the vaccines are up to date. I went to the vet, showed them the paperwork, and they did all the vaccines that needed updating (over $200 bill!) and this establishment STILL charged me an extra $27 to isolate my dog because they claimed there is a vaccine that needed updating that wasn't updated, despite the fact that is IS up to date, even according to the records they gave me. They also don't feel there is a responsibility to inform clients of possible extra charges when you drop off, so if you think you're paying for a simple overnight visit at their advertised price, be prepared to pay double. When I asked Adrianna about this, her reasoning was "all our clients know this." I imagine they do, after they come to pick up and see your costs have exponentially increased, and you approach them with this same attitude that desperately needs an adjustment. I have worked in service jobs my whole adult life, and the lack of consideration, transparency, honesty, and professionalism is honestly the worst part about coming here now. And they keep your card on file. I no longer trust them with this information. It never used to be like this. I used to be a loyal customer, and I'm saddened that I will now have to seek a new kennel service with more courteous staff and transparent policies. read more

This review is for Jessica Brennan, Dog Trainer. We took our 1 year old rescue, Rosie, to Dr. Boyd's because we had plans to travel with her for the holidays. When we adopted Rosie in October she hadn't been on a leash before, wasn't potty trained, fearful of people, and has tons of energy but mostly driven by anxiety. So the thought of taking her on a plane made us very nervous (she is a registered emotional support animal and would be riding in the cabin with us). Prior to training, we boarded Rosie at Dr. Boyd's for a long weekend while we went out of town and after picking her up the staff said she did well but it took her a day or so to come out of her shell. They recommended "Brennan" for training, since we were looking for a trainer and she was exactly what we were looking for! We set up a day for consultation and determined that Rosie would need 3 private sessions to build up her confidence, teach her commands, and teach us how to BE CONSISTENT! Jessica has always been flexible with our schedules and also is willing to go anywhere we think Rosie needs the most work (our apartment, dog park/beach, on walks, the airport...) Our first two sessions were on site at Dr. Boyd's and we covered a lot of information about how dogs think/react vs. how we think they think, which got us away from the thought that dogs think like humans. We worked on correcting bad behaviors and commending good ones as well as "working commands" like heel, sit, stay, come & down. At this point was when the real transformations were very apparent and made us feel confident that the bad behaviors would start to go away and Rosie could be a happy dog and also know that she can trust us! We went to the San Diego airport for our third visit because we felt it appropriate to expose her to the sounds and busy feel before our trip. She had come so far from the first two visits that she completely amazed us with her composure and that she was actually enjoying herself there! Normally she would be trying to run away, peeing, anal gland spraying (not pleasant in tight spaces like a plane) and possibly barking but we saw none of these behaviors :) I write this after taking her on the plane and she surpassed all of our expectations! Jessica has given us confidence in our dog and trust that she is going to live a happier, less anxious life. Jessica's professionalism, vast knowledge of dog behaviors, and willingness to work with us on anything we had concerns with comes highly recommended from not just me but many happy dog owners and even happier dogs! read more

Our doggies love going to Dr Boyds. They get to play all day which is really nice because we had to pay for extra playtimes at other places. And it's really because one dog is super friendly and loves playing with other dogs and the other needs individual play times. The way they work it, both dogs get to play quite a bit and everyone is happy! The staff is really friendly and we love when they post the pictures at night. I do wish they were posted more consistently but I would rather them focus on the dogs then posting pictures. I have not really noticed that our food comes back still full, though. The dogs don't seem starving when they come home so I am sure they are well fed while there. I wish they were closer to us (up north) but it is conveniently on the way to the airport - and their 24 hour drop off/pick up makes it even easier. read more

Where do I start? I've traveled so often and I often boarded my 2 huskies in many different facilities. After my 5 month old husky was mauled at a mom and pop boarding facility in NorCal I dreaded the idea of leaving them anywhere. My 2-1/2 year old had never had any issues boarding but the 5 month old had a strange water obsession. Since no other facility would restrict water I had to go to a pet hospital or vet boarding facility. This is when I found Dr Boyds. Yelp reviews are on point and this is the best facility I have ever been to. When I drop off either one of my dogs they can do ANY service I need, vet, grooming, training even medication. They are ALWAYS efficient with every detail I request and pay attention to everything. They also test for giardia which will prevent your dog from a week of antibiotics I have been to petsmart boarding and they agreed to my request only to find out they completely disregarded the water restriction request and my puppy had drank so much that she had seizures. read more

Although I thought the accommodations seemed pricy in the beginning, I now know that Dr. Boyd's is worth every penny when it comes to the special care they gave my dogs, and my own peace of mind. When registering, they make sure to cross every "T" and dot every "i," to make sure that your pets get the utmost care. The daily photos are such a great feature and service (as well as a hoot), and gives you an idea of how well your pets are interacting with everyone. I also appreciate the email updates. Everyone we dealt with there was very friendly and accommodating; the employees must truly enjoy their work. We will definitely be returning our dogs there for future boarding. read more

Absolutely ripoff for veterinarian services. I have a chocolate lab and they tried to charge me $900 for services I am able to receive in Point Loma for $200. I also wanted to use their daycare/overnight service for my dog but they allow non-neutered aggressive dogs who consistently mount other dogs and their solution is to spray the aggressive dogs with water bottles. If I wanted my dog to be mounted I would just drop it off at Ocean Beach dog beach. Warning to anyone who cares about his or her dog, do not use this facility. Price out their services and compare others in the surrounding area first. read more

Dr.Boyd's Veterinary Resort is the Home Away from Home That I Chose For Princess. They have all types of care options to suit the client's needs. Princess is staying in a one on one boarding plan; meaning no interaction with other dogs. Dr. Boyd's will provide the food ;which I prefer. The lamb & rice canned . Also the beef with gravy. They refused to see our dog unless we took this review of yelp, which we did not. We have transferred all our vet services elsewhere (Kearny Mesa Vet, which is a fantastic place btw) but felt it was ridiculous that Dr Boyd's refused to provide care to our dog bc of an honest review we wrote. read more
