I am so grateful for Dick Shepard. I came to him with a history of receiving traditional chiropractic care for many years. I got to a point several months ago where I recognized that manual chiropractic was not working for me. I am so grateful and thankful that I was fortunate enough to find Dr. Dick Shepard. I was bed ridden in 2012 due to 4 collapsing lumber disk. While, I was able to avoid surgery, I was left with chronic sciatica and chronic relapsing symptoms. His "chiropractor" treatments involve crystals and him hovering his hands over your back. No touch! WOW! Last week, I had one of THE most powerful healing sessions of my life with Dr. Dick Shephard and I signed up for a Yelp account just so I could share my story. There are many good doctors and chiropractors out there, but there are very few of them who are what I call true healers. Dr. Shepard is that. He is working at a different level of healing than most and he's the real deal. I'm so happy to have found him and so is my whole being. This work is more than just doing some adjustments or giving you some relief from pain, this is about bringing the body back into wholeness and well being and into your true natural state. That's my experience. I know I have more work to do with Dr. Dick, but that session last week went very deep. Since my visit into their beautiful office space (really like walking into a healing sanctuary where the energy is so clean and clear), I have been telling many people about my experience and encouraging them to go see Dr. Dick if they are looking for a healing experience. I would recommend Dr. Dick for anything actually even if you think your back is fine and you've got some other things going on. For me, it was almost like having a full body cranial-sacral session (if you are familiar with cranial-sacral healing modality). I have been having ongoing low back muscle pain and have trauma and chronic deep psoas muscle issues which means I am dealing with issues in the core of my body, in my belly (the seat of our pent up emotions). Someone told me earlier today that from a certain pov, whatever the heart can't process, it dumps into the psoas. So there was a lot going on for me when I called and made an appointment. I arrived a few minutes late due to SeaFair traffic and I walked into a completely different world than what was going on outside. I would call it a sanctuary. I immediately felt calmed upon entering. Dick's wife and business associate, Noel, runs the front desk and is as friendly and wonderful as you can imagine. She relieved me of my stress, reminded me of how it goes (it had been 2 years since I had been in), handed me my chart and took me in. There are 4 tables, and I went to sit on one of them. There was beautiful music playing and I immediately got pulled into a deep state of relaxation. Being relaxed is a great place to do some of our best healing work. After he came to ask me how I was and we had a short conversation, he had me lay face down on the table and began working on my back and every time he would come to me and do something, I felt myself releasing and going deeper and breathing deeper and letting go. I was working with him as well. I felt completely safe with him. I could trust him and I believe that's what helped me have this profound healing experience. At a certain point there was a huge emotional release and a lot of tears came pouring out and I knew that some healing was happening that was probably some old emotional wounds inside me. It then cleared. I could feel it. Like a weight was lifted, like I felt lighter and clearer and more awake and free. Yep that good. Like I said, it was a profound healing experience. When something is authentic like this you want to tell the world because everyone deserves to feel like this. I then was on my back for a while and then back to my stomach. After this huge release, there was a whole other stage I passed through that is still with me but subtler and gentler. This was what I might call euphoric or peacefully ecstatic. It wasn't bouncy energized state, it was peaceful but blissful. I kept lying there thinking wow, what is happening to me. This is so awesome. I want to be in this place all the time. And what I felt there in Dr. Dick's office surrounded by beautiful crystals, music I really liked, and a sense of the sacred permeating the room, was that this is my birthright. This is where we can all live. That is my ongoing revelation. We can live in a place like that and healers like Dr. Dick can help us in our journey. Dr. Dick is amazing. He really is not an ordinary Chiropractor. I had been afraid to go see a chiropractor ever since I had been adjusted a few years ago and my back hurt for 2 weeks after. I am a massage therapist and it took many massages to make me feel "normal" again. A friend recommended that I go to Dr. Dick not only for the pain I constantly have in my back and shoulders, from work, but also for my issues with anxiety. Dr. Dick does not "crack" your spine. He uses a method called Network Spine Analysis, which is VERY gentle. Ok, so this place is AMAZING! From the moment you walk in the door and receive the warm, kind and sincere greeting from Noel to the generous 1:1 treatment you receive from Dr. Dick -- one knows he/she is in a special place. The emphasis is on your total health getting at the root cause of the issue. The setting of the courtyard garden upon which you feast your eyes when in the exam room just takes you to another place before you even begin treatment. The treatment is gentle movements and manipulations, not those "snap you back in place" kind of approaches. When I got up off of the table after my treatment, I felt like toxins and everything else nasty had moved up/out. It was surreal. I had the pleasure of regularly seeing a Network chiropractor in NYC many years ago (wow, did I sleep well at that time!) -- it was the first chiropractor I ever saw; and the experience was so positive that I couldn't imagine a chiropractic visit being anything but awesome. Fast forward four cities and seven doctors, and now I get it. Let me start at the top -- Network is likely *unlike* any chiropractic you've ever received. There are no devices and no manual cracking; there is no pushing the body to go somewhere it won't go on its own accord. But, if you can get over the initial hump of "this is new and weird!" it's so worth it. You just can't beat how effective this gentle work can be! I called to make an appointment to see Dr. Dick Shephard for an acutely seized-up muscle; and I was so relieved when they were able to accommodate me same day. As soon as I entered their office, I felt right at home with their gorgeous Brazilian crystals set up around the room and Noel's very warm welcome. Dr. Shepard is exceptional at what he does. I am as picky as they come when it comes to bodywork to the point where I had essentially given up looking for someone to assist me in that way. Thankfully a loved one strongly encouraged me to go to him at least once and give it a chance. This doctor's hands blew my mind. I first found out about Dr. Dick Shepard and re-organizational healing from a friend who had benefited from his care. Her husband, who was very skeptical, saw the change in her and decided to go too. His aches & pains & problems of many years, slowly disappeared over the next 6 months. This stuff is really kind of hard to explain. You can think of it in terms of cell memory, and how you hold onto old stuff that's happened to you. Something happens with your body trying to guard against future stuff. Your whole system really feels that old injury. This modality (also called Network Care, or originally Network Spinal Analysis) helps to release it. Now, after going for a couple months, I'm really seeing results. It has been a subtle blooming, that takes a bit to notice. Then, you realize everything is better and can see your progress. Dr. Shepard uses a very powerful healing modality that takes all of the benefits from traditional chiropractic care and adds the added perks of this emotional and spiritual upliftment. My neck, at the moment, is at its best shape when receiving consistent care. I've gone to traditional chiropractors as well as network chiropractors, and the physical healing on the surface appears to be similarly powerful as long as the chiropractor of either modality is skilled enough. But, receiving treatment from a network chiropractor that is very professional at their craft leaves me with a unique sense of well-being and calm balance that traditional chiropractic just doesn't provide. I have been receiving regular chiropractic care from Dr. Dick Shepard since 2010 and have literally had miraculous results! I've been receiving network care treatment from Dr. Shepard at the Center for Network Care for about 3 years. I started because of rotator cuff pain that didn't get better with standard PT, and that turned out to be due to a whole bunch of interrelated years-old problems with my posture, the alignment of my spine, tightness in my hips, etc, etc. The physical therapist I was working with recommended that I try network care as an adjunct to PT, and it has ended up helping a whole lot more than my shoulder. My posture has really straightened out, the chronic muscle spasms I used to have up and down my neck and back have almost completely gone away, and it's easier for me to stay "in my body" and calm down the occasional flareup on my own between treatments. I now get maintenance treatment every few weeks because that helps keep me pain free, but there's certainly no pressure to engage in frequent or longterm care, it's just available if you need it. The clinic is well-organized, the fees are reasonable, parking is easy, and both Dr. Shepard and Noel Shepard, the clinic coordinator, are kind, respectful and caring. I feel lucky to be able to go there for care. Here's a little bit more detail about what network care treatment is like, in case it is new to you (all from my point of view as a patient-- I'm not a network care expert): As you will see if you read up on it, the method was developed within chiropractic but is different from traditional chiropractic care. The treatments involve lying (fully clothed) on a massage table with your eyes closed, focusing on your body and breathing while the clinician works. If you're used to traditional chiropractic adjustments, or something like deep tissue massage, you will be surprised and possibly perplexed by the gentle sensory inputs that are used. (I was completely skeptical---and completely taken aback by the benefits that started showing up pretty quickly.) The work involves intermittent, gentle to firm (no jerking or digging) touch that is designed, as I understand it, to more or less draw your nervous system's attention to areas that aren't functioning properly . The whole thing feels extremely safe and unintrusively nurturing (which probably helps the body let go of its old tense patterns, I suppose). Other people may experience something completely different. Hey, I don't know why it works! But it does, or has for me. Incidentally, another thing that can be unfamiliar at first if you've been doing other kinds of body work is that the treatment takes place in a room with up to 3 other people being treated at the same time. This may sound a bit odd, but the whole environment is so quiet and serene that it took me probably 3 minutes to get used to it. read more
