SCAM PRICING - BEWARE I went to Dr. Wu's office recently for teeth whitening. I had the same service there two years ago and was happy with the results. This time, however, the experience was completely different. When booking, I was told whitening now required a cleaning. Fine -- I agreed. But once I arrived, I was suddenly "required" to also do xrays and a full exam, despite explaining that I already have a regular dentist and was only there for whitening. After back and forth with the staff, hygienist, Dr. Wu, and her junior dentist, I reluctantly submitted. At checkout, the receptionist told me how "lucky" I was because Dr. Wu didn't charge for the xrays or exam. Yet the whitening itself -- originally quoted at $650 -- was billed at $899. With the cleaning, my total was over $1,000. When I questioned the discrepancy, the receptionist and office manager insisted that $899 was the "standard price" and that I must be mistaken. To test this, I had my son call the office weeks later. He was quoted $650 for whitening, with no mention of mandatory cleaning, xrays, or exam. read more

My first problem was with the office person on the phone who was rude and insisted on a credit card number even I explained that I was having a problem because my implant fell out and I was expecting it to be covered. Dr Wu never contacted me or replaced the implant. She got a lot of my money and I expected more. read more

Adele S I started with Dr. Wu October 2025 when the dentist I had been with for twenty years retired. Although I was under the Impression all was ok a problem developed right after my last visit to my previous dentist. Full mouth x-rays that I witnessed proved a very different story resulting in crowns, two implants, and a root canal on a previously crowned tooth. All this has been restored and saved with the utmost care and expertise. Dr. Wu was highly recommend and I feel fortunate to have been a receipt of that recommendation. Her staff is well informed and attentive. On my first visit the one staff member available Stephanie made me feel right at home. I wish I had come here to read reviews before I went. I had a top front tooth break off and my regular dentist said it was going to take an implant. I was told by Dr. Wu's staff that I would only have to pay for x-rays on a consultation for a dental implant. I went in and they immediately did a CT scan and a couple of x-rays. When Dr. Wu came in, she just kept telling me what a difficult case mine was because of how I smile and because I had radiation in the past. If she was so concerned about radiation, why did she zap me with a bunch of radiation for.a CT scan before even talking to me? She then tells me she won't do it without clearance from my endocrinologist about the radiation. Ridiculous. I later called my endo and she said that she wasn't a dentist and the dentist is the one who should be making that call. After she refused to do an implant, she talked to me about a bridge. I'm thinking great, it's probably cheaper and doesn't require the 4 months to heal that an implant requires. Her staff member then comes in and tells me it's going to be $11,000 for a bridge. WHAT?! I said I couldn't afford that and was near tears. They then charged me $700.00! This is certainly unethical and maybe even criminal. I felt as if I had been assaulted and robbed. I was so traumatized by the experience that I just went home and sobbed. I don't know about her skills as a dentist, but her skills as a human are atrocious. Unethical. Stay away. read more

I am convinced that Dr. wu is running a scam operation! I went to the office to go over my dental needs and get a price! The office quoted me the total cost of $4,500! I must of asked the office over and over," are you sure this price is for everything" and they assured me that it was! So i'm sitting in the chair for my final fitting, Dr. Christian is standing there with the final mold in her hand and just ready to insert into my mouth when the girl from the front office came in and said " we miscalculated, you owe us an additional $2,000 or we can not continue"! The lying Dr. Christian said you really don't need a final fitting because i had good suction"! Liar, liar, liar! I've been dealing with the worst fitting denture i have ever had! They are constantly coming loose, can't eat with denture in so i take them out! Loads of denture creme ! Every day i think of Dr. Wu and how she screwed me out of $5000 and went out worse than when i went in! Even though it's been several years (4) i'm going to report the scam that i wish i had done this earlier but there is no statute of limitations on criminal matters! All i see is negative reviews on Dr. Wu and still practicing?? Has she provided restitution to anyone? I have been to a lot of dentist in my life time but never have I had such a great experience as I did with Dr. Wu's office. The first point of contact (front desk staff) were welcoming and kind. They understood what my needs were and went above and beyond catering to what my needs were. When meeting with Dr. Wu, she was a pleasant as could be and was extremely knowledgeable. She discussed multiple courses of action for my dental care. She also suggested what would be the best option but also let me decide which option would work best for me for care and also financially. The front desk was very accommodating working out the financial portion and created an acceptable payment plan. I would highly recommend anyone to this office. You won't be disappointed!! read more

I WAS a patient there, the work was excellent and the prices were very high. I do not mind paying for good work. However what turned me off about this practice is as follows: i had a follow up visit, and before the follow up visit came around i was inpatoemt hospitalized. They called, and texted me. I told them that i was an inpatient in the hospital and that after that i had a small trip planned. They hounded me to reschedule till i finally told the girl don't call me again and don't have Francine (i assume her boss) call either... I honestly think they may be paid commission. I would not recommend Dr. Emma Wu. I went to her because I was having some pain in my tooth almost a year ago and she was very quick to say I needed a root canal. I got a second opinion and that was not the case. I am still getting bills from this office (though my insurance covered the visit) so I have to have my insurance company call them every few months to fix this which is very annoying. Something with their billing practice seems very shady.... double check your bills! read more

Dr Wu herself is great but super expensive. So if you don't have the best insurance don't even bother. We were there for a few years and the reason we left was the office manager at the desk. Terrible! Not up front about shady pricing and rude. And they hound you. No thanks read more

This office is aggressive and dishonest. They told me I needed scaling done for gum disease. I had a feeling she wasn't telling me the truth, so I got a second opinion and she confirmed I did not need scaling. They were very aggressive every time I had contact with them. After I already told them I wasn't going to have the procedure, they called again and explained to me that insurance approved it and they could tell from the xrays that I needed it, which is an outright lie. The way she was with me when I got upset about how aggressive and dishonest they are made me know this has happened to her many times before. RUN, do not walk, away from this practice. read more

I went in for and estimate for two implants. After meeting with her for a while with my wife she told me that insurance does not cover any portion of an implant. I then went to Perico in Swampscott and had the first stage of two implants done and did not pay a dime. I do have two dental plans but was told by Emma Wu insurance does not cover anything of an implant. read more

It's just one customer's opinion so take it or leave it: never, ever go here unless you are loaded with money - I wish I were. Their fee schedule is extremely high (remind you, this information is not available for customers to see so the practice won't share it with you - I was only able to find out about it through my dental insurance company after having them digging through the reasons why my allowance for the year was already exhausted in January!!, and I was responsible for a gigantic lumpsum payment to this practice: totally blind sided - I have Cigna with a decent dental plan. I've never had an issue like this before. All the practice had to say was that, they can only "estimate" how much the insurance company will cover (which is understandable), but, COME ON!, they have been always way off! On the other hand, I was told by my insurance company that the practice was already aware of the percentage of the coverage. Later I found out that this practice is a repeat offender. After talking through a lawyer (free consultation) since I was charged so much money by the practice, I think I've become an expert on dental insurance and its coverage, and how I could be ripped off merely due to lack of knowledge. Additionally, the radio commercial this practice had it run one time claiming that they have an in-house lab (which they do - true) and so customers can get their crowns done on the same day (complete false! - you still have to wait 2weeks) got me to this practice, and I got hit by an unbelievable charges. They resisted treating me on the half way of my procedure and told me they can't no longer treat me unless I pay the balance in full right away (understandable) but imagine walking around with 2 front teeth instead of 4!. I had no option but to have them continue their work and finish it. Again, I wasn't aware of their ridiculous fee schedule and how OFF their so called "estimates" could be whether it was intentional or not (you decide). Careful! That's all I'm saying. read more

The people in this office are extremely rude. Perhaps Dr. Wu is good at what she does, but I will never find out because I refuse to spend a significant amount of money and be treated poorly by her front office staff. I called to reschedule a consultation a week ahead of the scheduled visit. My next and best date was the first week in November. I was told that I should give them a call if I get serious. Well, I have taken this unpleasant woman's advice. With many implants to have completed I am very, very serious about finding another qualified provider. I have been to my share of dentists over the years because I'm very nervous of dental work. I finally after 2 years got up the courage to call her office and was very happy with the way they answered the phone with such enthusiasm that the first impressions are the best. I came in for a cleaning which I was not what I expected. The dental hygienist was so friendly, warming and made me feel like I've been there my entire life. She took extra time to give me a break whenever I felt anxious. The best part of my experience was when the Dr came in and sat beside me and her gentle touch to assure me that I'm in good oral health. I am so ever grateful for the wonderful experience I had. I am not one to write reviews unless I have the best experience ever. I have been dealing with military dentists for the last 28 years, so one can assume that the experience is nothing short of poor at minimum. I suffer from anxiety attacks just thinking of the word Dentist. I just left the office of Dr. Emma Wu, and I have to say that it was, hands down, the BEST dental visit EVER. Last year I went to what I thought was a well know chain dentist and was informed that I would need well over 5k in work. Thankfully, due to my fear of dentists as well as the lack of money, I did not pursue the "NEEDED WORK"! From the moment I walked through the front door, I was so comfortable. They greeted me with courtesy, listened to not only my fears of being there, but were very compassionate and understanding. They went above and beyond after I explained my PTSD from the combat environments I was in, by ensuring my comfort level was exactly where it needed to be. The hygienist, forgive me if I say the incorrect name, Liz was FANTASTIC. Very compassionate, courteous and as gentle as can be. Dr. Wu was also the greatest. She explained everything to me up front and told me what REALLY needed to be done. I am actually looking forward to my follow up appointment in 2 months. Allisa went above and beyond prior to my visit. She explained everything up front, followed up with me by email and continues to go that extra step with all the insurance hoopla that Massachusetts likes to put us through. Most people will write a review based on negative experiences and I have to say, BEST dental visit I have ever had. I would recommend Dr. Emma Wu and her ENTIRE staff to anyone who has a fear of dentists. 10 stars all around, and thank you to the entire staff! read more

I am a new client of Dr. Wu and will say that her work is amazing and my results were great. However, her front desk office staff is not at all helpful and I have yet to be able to pay my final bill because they refuse to give me a statement. I have been treated very badly by the same person repeatedly and I will not return. Futhermore, I will not pay the 'bill" they sent me until I have received a "Statement" of services rendered and amount tendered. This is a simple request that they do not seem to be able meet. Be careful that you know all of the billing facts before you allow services to be rendered. read more

This is my opinion, Think twice before you let Dr. Wu do a root canal on your large molars, she did a root canal on one teeth and missed 2 canals in the #2 molar. I went back a few times, once crying. I just learned to live with the pain until one night I had severe pain and I had to go somewhere else to get it fixed after 21/2 yrs. I brought her to court but the time that went by was too long , I LOST THE CASE. She should have sent me to an Endodontist to begin with. Called as a new patient to make an appointment for a procedure . Explaining to the office manager booking my appointment that I would like a call should I need to pay anything out of pocket since she was calling to get an estimate . Called in to say I would be 5 mins late and that's when she tells me "great news, you'll only have to pay $181" . I explained that I wasn't aware I had to pay anything because she didn't call as I requested . Basically told me that she was busy with other patients, dismissing my concern . I asked if I can pay some today and have them bill the rest and she goes "absolutely not, it's office protocol" told me to sign up for a credit card instead . Because she was rude , did not care about my situation , only concerned about money; I'm taking my business elsewhere , where people aren't stuck up and worried about money instead of patients first . I am very disappointed! I started seeing Dr wu in early 2017! After having all the xrays, we came up with a plan--which included 2 crowns! Prior to the crown, I needed gum surgery to make room for the crown (upper left). She performed this--and she did a great job! Per Dr. Wu the bottom right crown was the "most important" Because I had a tooth fracture! ok! The day of my gum surgery, I was escorted to the desk to discuss total plan of care and cost! I was told that my insurance would cover none of it. I was given an appt. for six weeks. I had to cancel bc I was ill. I rescheduled, but days before ny appt. THEY cancelled, as Dr Wu was not going to he in. Okay! I get there yesterday. Firsr, I get a lecture bc I waited so long to cone in for follow up??? Ummmm YOU cancelled one of my appointments, and this WAS the earliest Sat. appt. available! Ok! I explained I needed to wait until January to begin any work! My plan of care is discused again, which now includes a never-before-discussed tooth, which suddenly has a cavity, and this one now takes the front seat!??? This revelation is based on the SAME xrays mind you! No further diagnostics, not even a visual exam save for the surgical site! ! I explained I needed to wait until January, as my insurance is exhausted for this year!! The doctor was NOT taking this for an answer! She kept pushing and INSISTING that it had to he done now! She became VERY inpatient with me! Mind you, the walls in her exam roons do NOT go all the way to the ceiling, so our discussuon was not 100% private! She told me she was taking me out front to make an appiintment for this new tooth! My head was spinning! She says something to the girl at the desk and the doc walks away! The woman begins making me an appointment for the new toorh... for a CROWN??? I was so confused! A crown??? The doc said a filling? She gets the doctor, and the doctor cones out front saying "you need a crown there, the cavity is deep... I cannot fix it...??? That was it for me! I simply said "okay, I am putting the brakes on everything." The doctor then threw her hands up ib the air, and she stormed away! read more

The people there are generally nice but, I had a procedure done and I was told before hand that I would have to pay about $480.00 (don't remember the exact amount) which I paid in advance. About 2 months later they told me that they made a mistake and that the procedure they did wasn't covered by my insurance and that they used premium fillings (never asked me if I wanted generic fillings or the premium) and sent me a bill for another $480.00. I asked why, if they made that decision and made the mistake with the insurance company, I would have to pay the additional $480.00. They responded by telling me that it needs to be paid or that it will go to a collections agency. As I was in the market to buy a house, I couldn't risk that on my credit report. I cancelled my next procedure there and have now repeatedly asked them to stop sending me text messages and emails because I won't go back to any business that can't take ownership for their own mistakes. read more
