My needs at the time were mainly getting scripts for thyroid and cholesterol meds. My wife benefited more from his D.O. background. His use of placing vials containing herbs or minerals on my chest while checking arm resistance felt a bit like witch craft. If it speeds up the visit then so be it. At that time I would have given him a solid 4 stars. Now, would I not only give him zero stars but would like to warn others, in my opinion is his neglect of my health care needs. The issue started December 2022. Under his care, I started taking Naproxen Sodium for a shoulder injury. I never exceeded the dosage and told him I was taking the maximum shown on the bottle. He said that was fine as long as I didn't exceed the dosage. He didn't request any kidney lab work prior to taking the pain meds. Later in the month I was experiencing fatigue and cold intolerance. I called to request lab tests followed by an office visit. Paula at the front desk told me that a visit was required before the lab work could be requested. I stated that I wanted to arrive with lab results to hopefully give Dr. Thoreson some information to determine what was causing my symptoms. Again she told me the sequence is Dr. visit then labs. The visit consisted of Dr. Thoreson writing lab orders which I completed at CPL a few blocks down on Jollyville Rd. This was 12/22/22. Christmas Eve morning Dr. Thoreson received a call from CPL that my calcium levels were elevated and that I should go to the hospital immediately. Upon arriving at the Heart Hospital at 45th street, they confirmed the elevated calcium but their main concern was my creatine level was five times higher than normal levels from the Naproxen Sodium I was taking under his care. I was in kidney failure. I spent the Christmas holidays in the hospital getting flushed with IVs. Luckily there's no permanent damage but if I was allowed to visit Dr. Thoreson with lab work in hand he could have caught the extreme levels of creatine and possibly saved me from a hospital visit and the costs associated with it. My wife and I scheduled a follow up visit on 12/27/22 to give our concerns about not being allowed to request labs prior to the visit on 12/22/22. He was visibly uncomfortable during the visit. Possibly because he knew he could have prevented this situation? I think so. The rest of the visit basically consisted of him telling us that I should have pressed the importancy of wanting the labs prior to the 12/22/22 visit. We were dumb founded. Is he really victim blaming us? Dr. Thoreson has never had a good bedside manner but this is so incredibly unprofessional it came across as covering his ass for what he knows he's responsible for. My wife and I have changed primary care providers. In my opinion, Dr. Thoreson is not up for the medical challenge of patients that need more than prescriptions written and needs to retire.. If you as a patient need the most basic care, he's adequate.

Austin Hand Group may not be for everyone, BUT if you are seeking an extremely efficient medical office and best in class hand specialist, then Dr Lown is your doctor. He has a very calm/kind demeanor and gets right to the point/process. Given Dr Lown helps many people with pain management at various locations, don't expect too much chit chat. My first visit, my left index trigger finger was cured! My next visit, my right ring trigger finger was cured with a second injection. For a 20-minute visit, it is money well spent and a doctor that gets right to the point. Excellent doctor that has a great passion for his work.

I've had intimate dealings with CEO's and Presidents of large corporations who are "just regular guys". On the other hand, I've been subjected (by themselves) to egotistical "nouveau riche" characters who think (OK, I'll put it POLITELY) that their "excrement doesn't smell" (but you know how it's normally said, doncha?). You know what DOES impress me? People who are THE BEST AT WHAT THEY DO, THE BEST IN THEIR FIELD. Why do I take the time to mention all of this? Because Dr. Umesh Gadaria is the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS: a "regular guy" who is the best there is. And that impresses me MOST OF ALL. I currently have a thumb wound that is being obnoxious, and won't go away like it's supposed to. So my first stop was to Pro Med, where the attending physician (we'll call him "Kid Doc") told me he'd never seen anything like it, and obviously had no clue as to what to do about it. So, whaddaya do when ya got no clue? You start spending your patient's money on stuff that's completely "non sequitur", like "taking X-rays, to see if you have any bone issues." BONE ISSUES? Yep, that's what he said. I'm not a doctor, but when you've got a FLESH wound and the Dr. clearly doesn't know what he's doing, why do you need your BONES CHECKED? Another thing I can't stand is people agreeing to pointless tests, whether they have insurance or not (actually, ESPECIALLY if they do). You need to be an INFORMED and EMPOWERED PATIENT. If a Doctor orders a test that's clearly "off-point", OVERRULE him; it's your body, it's your money, and you have the right. Needless to say, that's what I did. Kid Doc attempted to get me so alarmed that I'd go to the ER IMMEDIATELY; that's what he suggested. Again, I'm not a Doctor, but I DO know the difference between something immediately life-threatening and something that can be given time to heal. The ONE thing "Kid Doc" DID do right is refer me to Dr. Gadaria. Without exception, EVERYONE at Pro Med had nothing but the highest praise for this guy. Since he (Kid Doc) DID prescribe me some antibiotics, I opted to take 'em over the weekend (this was a Sat morning) and make an appointment with Dr. Gadaria on Monday, which is what I did. Ah, where do I begin regarding Dr. Gadaria? Let's start with his Waiting Room; HE DOESN'T NEED ONE. Why, you ask? Because I was shown to an exam room ON TIME! A Doctor who says "show up at 11:30", and actually sees you AT 11:30? Man, what a CONCEPT! So, at exactly 11:30, this guy comes to the door ya go through to get to the exam room and escorts me back. When we get there, HE DOESN'T LEAVE. Why? Because "the guy" IS DR. GADARIA. Dr. G employs no nurses; he does all the preliminary stuff HIMSELF. Not only does this undoubtedly cut down on his operating "overhead", but nothing gets lost in the translation, since he's the ONLY one you talk to about your health issue. Regardless of the Profession, I like a guy who has a "hands-on" approach. Very early on, he makes it clear that he's not gonna do anything unnecessary, in regard to tests or prescriptions. Insurance money, or money coming directly out of your pocket, it's SOMEBODY'S money, and he recognizes that. You folks that don't worry about needless tests when you go to the Dr cuz you're "not paying for it", due to your insurance? You need to realize you're contributing to your OWN higher premiums down the road. One way or another, ya ALWAYS pay for it. I encourage you all to be proactive in your health care. If you have doubts about a particular test or procedure, ASK WHY YOU NEED IT. Some doctors don't like it when the PATIENT starts "calling the shots", and those are the very doctors I try to avoid. Dr G also reinforced my decision to NOT have the X-Ray done, and to NOT go to the ER. He's not an "old" man, but he's probably been practicing medicine as long as Kid Doc has been ALIVE. Absolutely no question who I'd put more trust in, all things considered. To sum up: From the way he staffs his office, to the personalized service, to his "bedside manner", to his professionalism, my experience with Dr. Gadaria was first-rate, from start to finish. I give him the highest possible rating and endorsement. I almost wish I'd have another health-related issue that would require that I go back again. I said ALMOST! And Dr. Gadaria PROVES that you don't have to be a POMPOUS ASS to be a well-respected doctor, or well-respected in whatever YOUR calling is in Life. The only good thing about this place are the nurses; all of them, without exception, are kind and caring folks with good bedside manner. More than I can say about the doctor himself. Dr Kaplan has to be one of the worst doctors I've ever seen as far as bedside manner. He never sat with us more than maybe 5 minutes, enough time to make notes and leave. He gave the bare minimum of attention to my client when she was talking at any point, and interrupted her constantly to cut the conversation shorter. The one and only time he acknowledged ME was before a procedure, where he asked me to tell my client (who was in another room) not to call the office with any concerns for at least 24 hours unless it was an emergency. On our last visit with him, he straight-up told my client (who by this point was in so much pain she could barely leave her apartment and was feeling the emotional distress from that) that she was too emotional for him to deal with. That other people had it way worse than her and THEY didn't cry. Lastly, he told her that even after the two tests she had been through, he would not perform the final procedure on her until she proved to him that she was on an antidepressant (???????????????????) Now the office is giving us the run-around, pushing our next appointment back a week, then another week, then saying we would have to go to a surgical center because they just don't have the tools they need. I've flat-out encouraged my client to quit giving this practice any more of her money; waiting to see a doctor who will treat her with some dignity will be 1000x better than ever seeing this doctor again. My biggest gripe with the office is they constantly push brain stimulators on their patients. Starting with the TVs in the lobby, and with every visit. I used this office for 6 years and don't think there was ever a time when I wasn't pitched the brain stimulator. It is a solution for Parkinson patients, but i don't have Parkinson's. If you are a patient and they want you to consider a brain stimulator, I advise you seek a second opinion. Lastly in the six years I have been a patient of this doctor, I have only seen him for about 5 minutes back in 2015. Other times you have to see a physician's assistant.
