Had Dr. Mac visit our home to evaluate our Mac laptop that has been very hot over the last two months. Kevin was very friendly and focused on our 16 inch laptop. Within one hour, he diagnosed that the problem was software related. He "cleaned-up" our system, removed old unused software and applications, and added an application that monitored our temperature and fan speed. It was truly successful and Kevin indicated that we can easily get another five years our of our 2019 laptop. We originally thought that it was a plug vent or broken fan, but rather Keven explained that too much unused software and applications can cause this overheating. We definitely will call Dr. Mac when we have Mac computer problems. He was reasonably priced and we are truly satisfied as you can tell from this review. read more

Believe all the positive reviews!! Dr. MAC knows what he is doing. I bought a new IPad for my husband and had no idea how to transfer everything from the old one to the new one. After reading reviews from all the various businesses listed I chose Dr. Mac and am so glad I did. He usually comes to your home but this was a surprise for my husband so he met me at Best But and we walked over to Starbucks where he worked his magic. I hadn't gotten a case for the IPad so he walked back to Best But with me to help find the right one. No go, so when he got home he researched it for me and sent me a recommendation online that was incredibly inexpensive!! I felt he earned every dollar of his very reasonable charge. Dr. Mac makes housecalls! For a reasonable charge, Kevin diagnosed the probable issues causing my Mac Book Pro to randomly restart. Once we figured out that the laptop was end of life, we moved to Step 2, backing up my data. Kevin got me hooked up to the iCloud, and all my docs and pics are now backed up. Step 3 is getting a replacement laptop, which Kevin advised me on. I appreciate his expertise. Chico is a Mac desert and I am grateful I came across Dr. Mac's yelp reviews. Kevin Mallory (aka "Dr. Mac") has saved my digital life so many times. He's a complete wizard with any Apple product -- Macs, iPads, iPhones, watches, the list goes on and on. For his last spectacular save he figured out the problem I was having with Word for Mac was actually a Microsoft bug but got me fixed up anyway. Then just a few days later he rescued a friend that was victim of a hacker she had given her social security number to. Ouch! Kevin is super friendly, supremely patient, very responsive, and knows his stuff. Forwards and backwards. I highly recommend him for all things Apple -- hardware, software, you name it. Dr Mac (kevin) was able to retrieve all my important files off my sixteen year old macbook. Everything was completely froze up and I was unable to open any of my important documents, music or photos. Kevin was able to get everything off my 2008 macbook and on to a external hard drive and to my new macbook air. Kevin was great to deal with and was able to get my old macbook working again. I do not normally write reviews; it must be a 10 star experience for me to take the time. But I feel compelled to write one about Kevin Mallory (aka Dr Mac) from Chico. My husband passed away 2 years ago and I have been challenged and anxious trying to keep up with all the jobs he did at home especially the "techie" stuff. Kevin had worked with him for many years on a myriad of problems and different Apple devices, and he was the one I contacted when I realized I needed help. He responded to my text within minutes and we set a date for 2 days ahead. He drove the 2 hours to my home and within 2 hours time, he had patiently unraveled several vexing issues. For over 3 months, my iphone was not receiving or connecting to phone calls at my home (a major inconvenience) and he solved that! He restored the operating system in my husbands old Apple computer so I can access several key databases on it including photos, music and a financial program we'd been using for over 20 years. He set me up with the new version of that program so I am launched into bringing it all up to date and useful for my new needs. I am astonished at the depth of Kevin's knowledge, perseverance skills, kindness and patience with me and all things Apple. I can not recommend Dr Mac more highly. read more

History

Established in 1986.

In the mid 1980s in Plumas County, we used one of the first Apple Macs at work. One day it displayed a software error and I called Apple to come repair it as it was under warranty. They couldn’t come for three days, so I sat down and played with it and “somehow” fixed it and that began my interest in Apple computers. We eventually learned to install, service and repair all the many different Macs at work, and when word got out on the street in 1986, I slowly developed a very solid base of customers, many of whom we still service today. I currently live in Butte County, and work out of my vehicle, going to homes and businesses wherever my customers might need assistance. I'm still waiting for my dream referral where my wife and I are flown in a private plane to a remote island location, to work on all the Apple devices of one of the rich and famous. Meet the Business Owner: Kevin M.

I spent my teen and adult years in Plumas County, CA, attending school in Greenville and working till 2016 in Quincy. We moved to Paradise in early 2017, where unfortunately in Nov. 2018, we experienced a little "Camp Fire" that got out of hand. After the fire, we moved to Glenn County for 7 months living in a fifth wheel with our three dogs Cooper, Jax and Lucy. The price of real estate after the fire pushed us into neighboring Tehama County, and finally, we have settled in Chico where my wife works and a large percentage of my customers live and work. However, we still service all the areas we've lived. Though I work alone in my business, I have several computer professionals whom I might call on to assist me with projects when the need arises including networking, microsoldering, logic board repair, etc. I'm very blessed to receive personal referrals from the vast majority of the professional computer and cell phone repair facilities in the Butte, Plumas and Tehama County area.

However when I received the call for my computer, I was charged for software repair which came up to be $125. Everything was fine and I went ahead and picked it up. Chandler said that there weren't any issues and that he just needed to do some software repair/updates. When I brought it home it wasn't making that grinding noise at all, great, BUT the next day the problem came back, it randomly started making that awful noise again only 4 hours home. I was really looking forward for them to fix this but Instead I didn't get anything fixed but 'software updates', there was nothing else wrong with my computer, I've had it for a long time.

I have had Apple computers for over 30 years, and used computer techs for almost as long. Dr. Mac has been the best! He is patient, kind, professional, and knowledgable beyond all expectation. Plus, he has a delightful sense of humor! I have consulted with him at least half-a-dozen times recently and he has helped me with some unusual and thorny problems. When I recently bought a new computer and needed help transferring files from my old one, we had a waiting period during which he turned his attention to my iPhone and did some extremely good work with me there, so there was no wasted time. I particularly appreciate his looking over things as we go along and finding important things I didn't know needed tending to. He is patient and calm, but also doesn't waste any time, and goes about cleaning up areas that had not had any attention for a long time. Because we live far apart geographically, all this is done seamlessly with his screen sharing program. I highly recommend Kevin for all your Apple support needs! read more

Im a PC/Windows person, but my dad was an Apple /Mac guy. When he passed away, I was left to figure out how to get all pictures, music, videos, taxes and documents off his Mac, iPad, iPhone etc... Dr. Mac (Kevin Mallory) was able to collect each precious bit off all the devices and back them up on 1 external hard drive so we would not lose anything.
