I have been slow to come around to this place. The lady has always liked the place more than me, ever since we first ventured in to try their wings shortly after they opened years ago. They've always had good wings with creative sauces but at the time the beer selection was pretty lame, the decor and wait staff not particularly impressive and nothing we tried food-wise besides the wings impressed us. Cut to the visits I've made since PopUp lost their (3rd party) liquor license 6-8 weeks ago. It drove me back and I e since found the beer selection has improved immensely, the hired help seems a bit friendlier and the summer special chicken salad sammich (all by itself) is my new obsession! How times have changed. Not sure if joining UnTapped had anything to do with it, but they now have 16 taps - mostly craft beer always incl a cider and Guinness. They have a plethora of sports, etc. on a plethora of TVs, darts and gaming, an expansive food menu. And while the wings still rock, it's the chicken salad on warm cibatta bread is one of the best true sandwiches, and best deals at $8 with homemade potato chips, in town. Eyes opened. read more

The food was very good. Delicious onion rings perfect breading! But, when I ordered the boneless wings I was expecting chicken breast, like every other boneless chicken wing i've had in my life. The "boneless chicken wings" were maybe 1/2 a step up from Mcdonald's chicken nuggets. If I had known it was processed I would have most definitely ordered Bone-In. I was shocked to find it wasn't real chicken especially from the price. I think they should warn people when ordering that it's a chicken nugget not boneless chicken wings. Hate to do this but it is very much warranted. They got my order wrong then on top of that my boneless wings were tiny...if they are going to add tiny pieces of bread and call it a wing they should either double the count or half the price. Pics are included. They were also out of appetizers and out of the flavor of the month listed online. It would just be nice if they took enough pride in their business to have consistency and uniformity over their online and in store menu. read more

I had high hopes for this place. I love chicken wings and that is what I ordered along with 1/2 order of onion rings. I was taken aback by the wings because I thought I was getting buffalo sauce and it was more like a rub, and I wasn't excited about the flavor, more like chipolte or something like a chili seasoning. What can I say about the onion rings except they were gross. The batter is way too heavy and too much pepper and no salt. I ate one and threw the rest in the trash. They tasted a little burnt. Nice little local bar/pub. Came in at 4:30 had a nice crowd but plenty of seating. Enjoyed their happy hour special 10 wings for $6 and $2.50 for a crown and coke!! I typically love this place for their wings. However, I ordered carry out for the first time the other night. I was told it would be about 15-20 minutes so I arrived 25 minutes afterwards. Mistake. I sat at the bar for 30 minutes and was told three times "it's being bagged." Now this would not have been a big deal because I get it, things happen. But my food was cold when I received it. Been going to Mckays since Don opened it. Loved the food and the bar. A few of us ordered wings for lunch at work. I ordered boneless. FYI they are not boneless wings like you are used to. They are like rib meat , so hard to chew, just terrible!!! I called and sent a picture on messenger and the manager said she would send me a gift card. It's been a month and nothing. Very disappointed. I am not the first person to say the boneless wings are terrible. Trying to save money I guess. read more

Dr McKays is a great place for happy hour. Bar drink selection is "YUGE". Live music and really good lunch specials. The other day I had the Irish Meatloaf lunch special. I was blown away. The loaf was tender tasty with a little twist of corn beef and veggies added to make it significantly unique comfort food I have ever had. Wings here are out of this world. The flavor combinations are spot on and showcase the mad talent of its creator. "Peanutbutter on wings?" Yep it works! Staff is really friendly and knowledgeable about what they serve. Feel free to ask them for recommendations. If I only live closer I would be there much more often. read more

Food is alright, depends on what you get. Had a nosy waitress a couple years back tell me I should go to the dmv to get my id changed though it was the middle of of the pandemic and I had just turned 21. Turned me off from the place. Bar atmosphere with good capacity for patrons. They have a gaming section too. Good selection of drinks. Decent menu and prices are reasonable. I had the wings which were good. Service was good, multiple people were checking on us even though they were fairly busy. They have happy hour specials 4-6 pm. read more

Ordered from here to try something new and support local business during this time. Had always heard good things. The bone-in wings were very good. Good size and flavor. The boneless wings we ordered were rivaled in size only by the "wings" I've been served in the school cafeteria. They were also overcooked, but how could they not be considering the size. My son really enjoyed the breakfast burger he ordered until he bit into the stray hair. I did enjoy the jalapeño cheese nuggets (pictured next to the boneless wings). I've never really found my go-to pub/chicken wing spot in Bloomington-Normal until now. The service at the bar was impeccable. Great conversation and recommendations. Enjoyed a craft brew from Revolution, waffle fries (so crispy and fresh) and amazing wings. The Parmesan Garlic are to die for (though a breath killer!!). I'll be back for sure. Want to try some of the different loaded fry options. Great place for watching sports, too! read more

We were really excited to try them after hearing good things from friends. However we were pretty disappointed. The onion rings had no seasoning and were burnt. They tasted like burnt oil. I couldn't eat one, my husband finished them only because we were starving....but he regretted it. We received our Horseshoes and the cheese was so thick and gloppy it was like what you would get in can. It appeared to be dumped on. The turkey horseshoe, well, the turkey was thin sliced and grey. It tasted like the stuff you get in the banquet frozen dinners (looked like it too). Maybe other menu items are good, but we won't be back to find out. read more

Bad experience. Extremely slow service. Just the appetizers took over 30 minutes. Food was nearly an hour. When food arrived, the boneless wings were terrible. Smaller than nuggets, rock hard on outside, and very very dry on the inside. Hard to bite and nearly impossible to chew. We assumed it was a bad batch, because our last visit the boneless wings were amazing. Manager came to table and said "nothing we can do, we changed distributor. We can make a new batch but they will be small, hard and dry as well!" Seriously? Blame the distributor? We took the refund for the wings and vowed as a group never to return. Way better than Mugsy's Pub. Dr. McKay's wings are better, well the same, but better anyway. Don't go to Mugsy's, the place is a dumb. Horrible owner. Looks like a homeless man. Horrible to employees and customers. Raised prices and striped any good happy hour deal. He's the type of dude who charges .75 cents for a piece of cheese kinda guy. Then puts pour stoppers on his bottles so it's exactly one once. Horrible management too. Anyway, go to Dr McKay's. It's not a dump. Better alcohol deals. Live music. Better food. This place is always busy. I was looking for local places after work for a late dinner or snack and a brew, it has become one of my favorite places to go after work. My Wife and I finally went to Dr McKay's. We had heard they made good wings. We ordered there double battered mushrooms as an appetizer. They were very good. We will order them again. My wife ordered mild wings and I ordered a Reuben. Where we were siting we could see the kitchen and they weren't just reheating frozen food. Not many places seem to hand batter their wings anymore. Both dishes were great. The wings very flavorful. The Ruben had fair serving of tender corned beef. We bought two entries, and an appetizer for under twenty dollars. We certainly will be going back. *Update: I have been back many times now and have almost everything on there menu. And it has all be really great. I forgot to mention that they have 8 taps. One tap is always Guinness. Four taps are are for micro-brews that they change out. Everyone I talk too at working is always asking why Bloomington/Normal doesn't have many locally owned restaurants/pubs, Well here is a great one. read more

Pretty dang good! I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the food. $5 pitchers of domestic beer on Sundays is hard to beat. I had the Buffalo chicken horseshoe with their Thai chili sauce. Cannot complain, the price point makes the food that much better also! My wife and I are going to start making this our regular weekly place. read more

I ordered the gimmari for appetizer and beef tofu stew which is my favorite. I have never had gimmari but it was delicious. Piping hot with a great sauce. I wish I could have gotten another order but knew I couldn't eat it all. The stew was also very good, lots of tofu and beef. I was impressed by this small mom and pop restaurant with friendly service. I'll be back every time I visit. So happy I stopped in!!!

I love going and trying new things and they've always been delicious but it's hard to not get my favorite beef bibimbap stone bowl because it's just so delicious! I do kinda wish they had some fermented kimchi and not just fresh kimchi because that's my preference but after a soju beer or two it's all good. Haha.

I suspect at this point, few people need or use reviews for such places as 'B-Dubs', I mean they're…read morea kind of 'seen one, seen''em all' franchise by this point with a nationally consistent menu, a large number of wide-ranging beers, a fairly efficient waitress/food-runner model of service, and sports on TVs everywhere. We've generally (and somewhat surprisingly) been big fans of the chain, in fact I've been to the original site, off campus at Duke! But we are rarely there on a prime Saturday night...and we won't likely ever be back during rush hour there again. The problem is that when the kitchen falls behind, the service delivery machine that sits behind it is not equipped, nor empowered to fix things. It will make you remember all the reasons why these chain restaurants irritate some and drive others crazy. In our case, our food took twice the time it normally does, and then was delivered lukewarm at best, then redelivered without half the platter, meaning an out of process trip BACK to the kitchen and more time were needed. Then to top all off...when we inquired if there were any extenuating circumstances, we were told that they were just experiencing the normal Sat night dinner rush in the kitchen, ultimately offering no other explanation or contrition. Altho hungry, we weren't in any particular hurry, how about a small discount, or even just a beer to buy some additional patience. I appreciate a well run business as much as the next guy, but first of all, if the same thing happens every Saturday night, maybe the work schedules need to be tweaked. Then, when things DO break down, you are ultimately only as good as your front of house people and their ability to explain (or mask) the problems and keep customers happy. It's pretty clear the servers/bartenders at BWW have no interest or incentive to do so. We've now lost interest too.

They've improved the pancakes and the coffee. This time I got the Clover Skillet that has corned…read morebeef hash. It was good but too many potatoes and seemingly less corned beef. I'll stick to the plate of corned beef hash next time. It comes with your choice of pancake, French toast or waffle. The waffle was fine. Next time I'll try the French toast.
