I have been slow to come around to this place. The lady has always liked the place more than me, ever since we first ventured in to try their wings shortly after they opened years ago. They've always had good wings with creative sauces but at the time the beer selection was pretty lame, the decor and wait staff not particularly impressive and nothing we tried food-wise besides the wings impressed us. Cut to the visits I've made since PopUp lost their (3rd party) liquor license 6-8 weeks ago. It drove me back and I e since found the beer selection has improved immensely, the hired help seems a bit friendlier and the summer special chicken salad sammich (all by itself) is my new obsession! How times have changed. Not sure if joining UnTapped had anything to do with it, but they now have 16 taps - mostly craft beer always incl a cider and Guinness. They have a plethora of sports, etc. on a plethora of TVs, darts and gaming, an expansive food menu. And while the wings still rock, it's the chicken salad on warm cibatta bread is one of the best true sandwiches, and best deals at $8 with homemade potato chips, in town. Eyes opened. read more

I have been a regular patron at DR McKay's for the past 6+ years. It had been a go-to spot for grabbing beer and wings while watching the game. Yesterday, I went there with a few friends for dinner, drinks, and a friendly game of euchre with no money wagered. The waitress was friendly and polite and joked about our card game. When the manager saw us playing euchre, however, she screamed at us from across the bar that euchre was "illegal" and not allowed. She demanded that we stop immediately and made clear that we were not welcome at the establishment. Playing a friendly, non-cash game of cards is not illegal, and the manager said she also would have kicked us out for playing Uno. As a private business, McKay's is free to enforce whatever rules it wants. However, in addition to being forced to leave, the way the manager handled the situation was unnecessarily aggressive and belittling. She could have quietly come to our table and explained the policy, but instead chose to yell at us from across the bar. There are plenty of great businesses in Blo-No worth supporting that do not treat their patrons this way. I will take my future business elsewhere and encourage anyone reading this to do the same. read more

Went to DR McKays for a late lunch. Had a grilled chicken sandwich and my wife had wings both were so dry could not finish them.

The food was very good. Delicious onion rings perfect breading! But, when I ordered the boneless wings I was expecting chicken breast, like every other boneless chicken wing i've had in my life. The "boneless chicken wings" were maybe 1/2 a step up from Mcdonald's chicken nuggets. If I had known it was processed I would have most definitely ordered Bone-In. I was shocked to find it wasn't real chicken especially from the price. I think they should warn people when ordering that it's a chicken nugget not boneless chicken wings. Besides that, the service was great and enjoyed the music! read more

Hate to do this but it is very much warranted. They got my order wrong then on top of that my boneless wings were tiny...if they are going to add tiny pieces of bread and call it a wing they should either double the count or half the price. Pics are included. They were also out of appetizers and out of the flavor of the month listed online. Nice little local bar/pub. Came in at 4:30 had a nice crowd but plenty of seating. Enjoyed their happy hour special 10 wings for $6 and $2.50 for a crown and coke!! I had high hopes for this place. I love chicken wings and that is what I ordered along with 1/2 order of onion rings. I was taken aback by the wings because I thought I was getting buffalo sauce and it was more like a rub, and I wasn't excited about the flavor, more like chipolte or something like a chili seasoning. What can I say about the onion rings except they were gross. The batter is way too heavy and too much pepper and no salt. I ate one and threw the rest in the trash. They tasted a little burnt. I typically love this place for their wings. However, I ordered carry out for the first time the other night. I was told it would be about 15-20 minutes so I arrived 25 minutes afterwards. Mistake. I sat at the bar for 30 minutes and was told three times "it's being bagged." Now this would not have been a big deal because I get it, things happen. But my food was cold when I received it. Been going to Mckays since Don opened it. Loved the food and the bar. A few of us ordered wings for lunch at work. I ordered boneless. FYI they are not boneless wings like you are used to. They are like rib meat , so hard to chew, just terrible!!! I called and sent a picture on messenger and the manager said she would send me a gift card. It's been a month and nothing. Dr McKays is a great place for happy hour. Bar drink selection is "YUGE". Live music and really good lunch specials. The other day I had the Irish Meatloaf lunch special. I was blown away. The loaf was tender tasty with a little twist of corn beef and veggies added to make it significantly unique comfort food I have ever had. Wings here are out of this world. The flavor combinations are spot on and showcase the mad talent of its creator. "Peanutbutter on wings?" Yep it works! Staff is really friendly and knowledgeable about what they serve. Feel free to ask them for recommendations. If I only live closer I would be there much more often. read more

Ordered from here to try something new and support local business during this time. Had always heard good things. The bone-in wings were very good. Good size and flavor. The boneless wings we ordered were rivaled in size only by the "wings" I've been served in the school cafeteria. They were also overcooked, but how could they not be considering the size. My son really enjoyed the breakfast burger he ordered until he bit into the stray hair. I did enjoy the jalapeño cheese nuggets (pictured next to the boneless wings). I've never really found my go-to pub/chicken wing spot in Bloomington-Normal until now. The service at the bar was impeccable. Great conversation and recommendations. Enjoyed a craft brew from Revolution, waffle fries (so crispy and fresh) and amazing wings. The Parmesan Garlic are to die for (though a breath killer!!). I'll be back for sure. We were really excited to try them after hearing good things from friends. However we were pretty disappointed. The onion rings had no seasoning and were burnt. They tasted like burnt oil. I couldn't eat one, my husband finished them only because we were starving....but he regretted it. We received our Horseshoes and the cheese was so thick and gloppy it was like what you would get in can. It appeared to be dumped on. The turkey horseshoe, well, the turkey was thin sliced and grey. It tasted like the stuff you get in the banquet frozen dinners (looked like it too). Maybe other menu items are good, but we won't be back to find out. read more

Bad experience. Extremely slow service. Just the appetizers took over 30 minutes. Food was nearly an hour. When food arrived, the boneless wings were terrible. Smaller than nuggets, rock hard on outside, and very very dry on the inside. Hard to bite and nearly impossible to chew. We assumed it was a bad batch, because our last visit the boneless wings were amazing. Manager came to table and said "nothing we can do, we changed distributor. We can make a new batch but they will be small, hard and dry as well!" Seriously? Blame the distributor? We took the refund for the wings and vowed as a group never to return. My Wife and I finally went to Dr McKay's. We had heard they made good wings. We ordered there double battered mushrooms as an appetizer. They were very good. We will order them again. My wife ordered mild wings and I ordered a Reuben. Where we were siting we could see the kitchen and they weren't just reheating frozen food. Not many places seem to hand batter their wings anymore. Both dishes were great. The wings very flavorful. The Ruben had fair serving of tender corned beef. We bought two entries, and an appetizer for under twenty dollars. We certainly will be going back. *Update: I have been back many times now and have almost everything on there menu. And it has all be really great. I forgot to mention that they have 8 taps. One tap is always Guinness. Four taps are are for micro-brews that they change out. Came in for lunch on Sunday with my beautiful bride. Food was good and several notches above typical pub food. Service was excellent. They have a good variety of menu choices that everyone, including vegetarians, will be happy with perusing. We had fried green beans as an appetizer. Black bean burger and waffle fries for my bride.
