Came in for a minor hand injury, left several hours later with a peanut allergy I don't have, an ibuprofen allergy I don't have, and "nutrition counseling" that never happened. The PA mistook me for another patient, ordered pointless x-rays, pushed pain meds I refused, and then explained that "insanity" is still a medical term. When I pointed out it hasn't been since before 1925, he said, "It's coming back around." Ten minutes later he returned - not with research, but with the Merriam-Webster definition of insanity. Today witnessed Dr. Alwis yell at a child and disabled lady. One came in to refill medications and the child came in with severe pain. From my own experience, this Dr doesn't even assess or touch the patient but just give out medications. He is passive aggressive and his front staff and nurses are equally incompetent, lacking bedside manner and respect for patients and patient confidentiality. I suggested to both individuals to just go to Victor Valley Hospital for better care and treatment, especially after the nurse stated, "You can go now." You just have to mention "Dr Mike's clinic" and the High Desert Community already is aware of his and his staff's horrible practices and lack of couth. I considered Dr. Mikes because they were caring , fast and efficient. However,now they installed the Solv, kiosk and this has made the receptionist lazy . On the 23rd of February I visited Dr Mikes in Hesparia. When signing up for the kiosk I was directed to use my phone to finish signing up. When directed to take a picture of my ID the program froze and asked to do it again because of technical difficulties. So I did. However I did notice 2 patients and a whole family Walk out doing the check in process. After I finished I was called up to the front desk to be asked the purpose of my visit. I told the young Lady , I was there for a follow up. That your doctor Rebecca Alfonso had scheduled. I guess it was not a good enough reason, because about 2 minutes later that same person called me up to tell me my insurance was not active. Dr Mike Alwis , I don't know how much you value your patients,but this Kiosk thing is making your girls lazy. I told the receptionist I would make an appointment as soon as I resolved my insurance problem. When I got home , I called my insurance, and they told me there was no problem with my insurance. In fact they called your office in Hesparia to get the fax number to send you confirmation of my coverage. It is sitting on you fax machine. If you value my business I hope you resolve your kiosk issues. Like I said I saw three potential patients walk out. I knew I had insurance but I wasn't going to tolerate your reception telling me I didn't after filling out your sketchy application on the phone. There are better applications that actually that Actually take the pictures of ID and insurance card on the kiosk . If I could 0 stars I would. dr.Mikes is a joke. They are my primary provider. I call at 3:30pm to make sure I can be seen that day. They have me on hold for over 30mins so I go into office. I get there a little after 4:15pm. The front desk lady says I cannot be seen because there's a 3-4hr wait.!!? I tell her "I can wait that's fine, because they close at 8pm!!" She continues to say no, to try to come back "tomorrow" ... cool, so I end up going to the Barstow hospital. Fast forward 2 days . I call to make sure I can be for-sure be seen. I ask if there's a cutoff time for walk ins so I'm not turned away 4 hours before closing again! She laughs and says "As long as you're not here at 7pm an hour before closing." Like no sh*t..... Reception, nurse, and doctor were all very nice and professional. Wait times are the same as everywhere else but fortunately I was called pretty fast. I'm 64 yrs old, I fell on the job left work in a ambulance with bruises, scratches and pain all over. The physician assistant did not think it was necessary for me to have a day off to recover and wrote the order for a return to work with regular duty. This person did not ask questions regarding the injury or how I was feeling. He read the notes from the hospital that said off work until March 1. The PA did not have the X-ray report but decided by looking at me that I'm well enough to return to work. I walked in the room with a knee immobilizer and crutches but the PA said "walk slow and gingerly" you should be fine to go back to regular duties. My job consists of walking a property to insure it is nice and clean. THERE WAS CLEARLY NO CONCERN FOR MY WELLBEING AND HE SHOULD BE EDUCATED ON EVALUATING PATIENTS. read more

I went in a week ago to try and get my three kids seen because of the viral infection going around but I was worried because my son's cough was getting worse. When asked if we'd been exposed to Covid I said no and they refused us because they wanted me to go to rite aid get them tested them come back. If this is something they are wanting why wouldn't they have the test on hand. So I took my business elsewhere I had to drive to applevalley to have my kids seen, a week later my oldest was complaining of ear pain so I was worried about ear infection I mentioned it to her and she said because he was already seen at a different urgent care that he needed to follow up with his primary I asked why if this was for a whole different issue and again I was refused I had to take him to the ER for something so little he in fact had a double ear infection and acute bronchitis. ok now this office really pissed me. So I called this morning before 10 am to get my son seen through telehealth. He has croup and I know this because he had it before. I didn't want to take him anywhere coughing and being around other sick people. The girls at the front sent me a text message to fill out his paperwork. So I did. I called at 12:30 to ask when the call was going to come, and another front girl asked for my son's name and then told me in 10 minutes I'll be getting the call. I waited until 1:30ish and called in and then another front girl tells me he's not in the system and that the e-Dr or whatever they call them, has gone home. Are you serious? So I go off on her, although I know it's not her fault. So then she tells me she can get me in at 3:30. But the text message they send me says 4:30, I call in at 4:37 and they tell me they've been calling me at 3pm and a girl named Christina I believe wants to have an attitude talking about she's been calling to get his vitals..and that they call from a block number. Ok I was getting a 760 number thinking it was one of those telemarketers. I'm so done with this incompetent place. I know not all the girls are like that, but you can't get a time right. I went to get lab work done and went for a follow-up appointment and I was never told my results for all my labs at the FOLLOW UP appointment. I Had to get my results on the laboratory portal. I called them about it and they kept brushing me off. After all the calling for days they finally told me to come in. Why would I come In again when you should have done your job the first time so I wouldn't have to come back in. My condition got worse because of the delay in treatment. It needs to be shut down! I'm told I have a personal medical provider named Dr. Mikel Alwis. This is what it says at my medical insurance website and on my medical insurance card. I have been going to the "Dr. Mike" medical office in Barstow for 2.5 years now and I have yet to meet with ANY Medical Doctor at anytime. My complete healthcare treatment is done by a Physician's Assistant and it has been the bare minimum and most paltry care I have ever experienced. The staff regularly loses my paperwork, has not followed up on any request of mine and fails to report lab findings to me. I have submitted a sleep study to them 5 times and it has been misplaced 5 times. Yesterday I spent 3, YES THREE HOURS in a Zoom meeting waiting for the PA (never a doctor) to update my prescription refills. The call takers are bombarded with angry and frustrated patients on the phone all day long and have grown passive-aggressive to the point of DMV employees. This laughable medical care at it's worst and I would inform Dr. Mike of this, but I have never met him. I am currently speaking with my medical insurance company to change my provider, a chimpanzee would be an improvement at this point. read more

Husband and co-worker went for DOT physical, FESTUS said they had to have sleep apnea test done. Sleep apnea testing center is requiring a referral form....We called Friday spoke with Magda she says no problem fax it over. Hadn't received the paperwork, called back Monday they say Magda is out until June we can't find paperwork, please fax it over again. We faxed it again, called back they said they would get it taken care of and faxed over. Called back (today) Friday, they can't find paperwork again! Then they fax only the DOT physical form, which we already had. Called them back again and asked for the referral form...PA FESTUS gets on phone and says it's not his problem, he's does the physical and the requirements but will NOT sign the referral so we can actually get the test done for my husband and his co-worker going through the same thing. Told him our PCP won't sign (yes we visited them as well) because they are not requiring the test as there is no medical need, that we need to get referral signed by requesting doctor...which would be festus, he then told me it looks like I need to get a new doctor and it's not his problem! DOT needs to pull there certification for doing DOT physicals they have no idea what the heck they are doing! read more

I have to be honest. After reading the reviews, I was a bit hesitant to come here. I've been battling a nasty cold for the past 3 days and finally decided to go to Urgent care to see if I can get some antibiotics to help speed up the healing. I arrived right when they opened and I was the second person in line. The front desk staff were welcoming and really helpful. After filling out paperwork, I probably waited about 1 minutes before being called back. I saw the doctor within 25 minutes from my arrival and it was quick. This was the fastest urgent care visit I have ever had. Staff were friendly and the Doctor didn't rush me. I got my prescription and was out within 40 minutes. Thank you Dr. Mike's clinic! read more

I am new to the Barstow area and needed to take my 5 year old for his 5 year check up, plus make sure he is ready for Kindergarten. I called Dr Mike's clinic on 7/11/22 and asked for an appointment for the reasons mentioned above. I was told that I had to make them his primary Dr first. So I called my insurance, spent 30 minutes on the phone making them his primary, then called back to make the appointment. I was told that there were no available appointments until late July, but that I can walk in any time. I had to wait until my next day off, which was 7/13. I walked in at 1:30, and checked in. They finally called us at 3:55 and asked if his vitals were already taken. I said no, we have been in the waiting room the whole time, so no. They took his vitals, and then asked if the front desk let me know that they had no shots. I said no, and if they did, I would not be here. If they had no shots, why did they insist I make them my son's primary Dr? I am still waiting for the Dr to see him at 4:36. Dr offices get busy, I get it. But they should have told me that they can't even give any shots. Now I have to wait for another day off to take him to the health department for shots. How much time is this place going to cost me? Then, the nurse came in and asked if he was able to give a urine sample. I said, "No, how was i supposed to give you a urine sample? No one asked for one. I didn't even know it was expected until you asked if it was already done." Then she said that the front desk was supposed to give us the cup for the sample. Of course they were. This place is more than busy, it's un organized and has no respect for other people's time. Now I'm going to have to find another primary Dr and go through the process of changing the primary with my insurance. read more
