As a parent, you anticipate extreme costs right out of the gate. Not the case here. He said, and I quote 'if she were my daughter, I would wait' (on getting braces). Allowing time for her baby teeth to completely fall out to see exactly how much room we are working with... They said they would put a crown on the tooth. The good news is they were able to do exactly that, they removed the cavity and put a crown on the tooth. The bad news is the crown was too big and it caused pain. I returned a few times and they tried but failed to fix it. One day the pain stopped on its own, strange. Even stranger is the neighboring tooth felt funny, not really pain but something was off. I went back and what do you know, the neighboring tooth was cracked, due to the pressure put on it from the over-sized crown. They checked x-rays and sure enough, that same cracked tooth was perfectly healthy just a month before the crown. Right before the crown, I had a perfectly healthy tooth, a month after the crown, a cracked molar on a tooth that was otherwise healthy. Instead of taking responsibility I was treated not like someone who was a regular or someone who just suffered a cracked tooth, but I was treated like I was the villain. They never could answer how that tooth cracked all of a sudden, except "Well you are getting older" and other nonsense. So in the end they saved the tooth with the cavity and the crown stopped hurting, but the process cost me a perfectly healthy tooth, meaning I ended up paying over $1,000 and still lost a tooth. Imagine being out of a tooth, being out of $1,000, and given the run around, and treated badly while denying accountability. That is this dentist, both father and son. I would treat this place like ten miles of bad road.

This was false. My insurance ultimately covered only $279.64. After receiving my Explanation of Benefits, I contacted both the dental office and my insurance. My insurer confirmed that the office had been clearly told on the date of service that coverage applied only to the allowed amount, not the total billed amount. This critical information was never disclosed to me. I agreed to treatment solely because I was assured I would be reimbursed a specific percentage of the full cost. Since then, the office has provided inconsistent explanations, denied statements that were later proven untrue, and has not contacted my insurance again despite repeatedly claiming they were "working on it." I also requested a copy of the document I signed showing the quoted coverage, and the office failed to provide it. I have repeatedly asked to speak with the dentist or owner regarding this issue, and each time I have been told I am not allowed to speak with anyone except Ruby at the front desk. This refusal to escalate concerns or allow communication with management is unacceptable. I believe I was induced into unnecessary and costly treatment based on inaccurate and misleading information. The lack of disclosure, refusal to correct the issue, and ongoing evasiveness demonstrate a serious disregard for patient rights. I cannot recommend this office to anyone seeking honest or transparent dental care.

He only charges half of what Bay Area dentists were asking for an implant, and that comes with an in-office CT scan to determine the viability for an implant for insurance approval - and you don't have to leave the country or risk your health for the affordable price! You just have to get to Barstow (a 2-1/2 hr drive or bus ride from Las Vegas or L.A., or an hour drive from Ontario airport). His office manager is a genius at getting the insurance companies to cover their share. I always owe less than anticipated. Their office and facilities are modern, comfortable, and attractive.

Because of this, when the insurance company refused to pay for the service, we were sent a bill for $400+. When we contacted the insurance company about non-payment, the insurance company told us that they would contact the provider and if they would request to be back in the network for the time of our appointment, then Blue Cross/Blue Shield would pay the statement. The dentist office had agreed to do so, and we thought everything was taken care of, UNTIL we received a bill from Smile Makers, 10 months later for the original charges plus late payment fees. Needless to say, I contacted my insurance carrier who informed me that the dental office never requested to be placed back in the network. After several back and forth calls, the insurance carrier presented the dental office with 2 options, they would let the dental office back into the network for the date of our service, or Smile Makers could accept from me the amount Blue Cross/Blue Shield would have paid them. Unfortunately for me, Smile Makers stated the dentist was on vacation and the office made it sound like he would not want to request to be placed back into the network temporarily and that the best I could hope for was to pay the $400+ myself. My review is a negative one because this experience has not had the outcome that I had expected. Not only do I pay nearly $600 a year for dental insurance but then through no fault of my own, I am out another $400+ because the office staff at Smile Makers did not bother to inform us that they had removed themselves from our insurance network. I had my first appointment on 3/20/26 @ 2:30 and from the moment I walked in, the front desk girl with was friendly and made me feel very welcomed. The office was super clean, nice and organized. My appointment was at 230 and I didn't have to wait long to be called back. The office coordinator/manager (I think that's what her title is) was super friendly, as she made me feel very welcomed and comfortable in my new environment. She gave me an office tour (which was cool, as I never experienced that ANYWHERE), she was very thorough with the tour, explained how the office runs and took the time to talk with me and get to ME, not just as another patient, but an actual person! They even take pride in their patients by making them feel important and appreciated with fun giveaways and going that extra mile. I was even given a goodie bag which was super cool and 100x better than a small plastic bag with a toothbrush and toothpaste from my former dentist. The gal that took my x-rays was also super friendly and nice, as she took the time to make me feel welcomed and important by explaining everything she was doing, step-by-step. While waiting for the doctor, another gal walked in (name started with a K), to check on me and to give me an update on when the doctor would be in. She offered me a beverage and put Nextflix on so I can watch while I waited (the dental assistant's at my former dentist would leave me sitting there without even saying a word to me), again, above and beyond service at Dr. Chang's dental! Once the doctor came in he was also very friendly, talked to me and actually got to know me! He put my x-rays on the TV for a better view and was very thorough with explaining my x-rays to me. The Dr. Chang was very friendly, funny and kind as we discussed our lives, my teeth It was well the worth the wait in this dentist office and VERY pleased with Dr. Chang, as I learned my teeth weren't as good as they look, and I blame my old dentist for that. Now that I'm with Dr. Chang, I can finally properly get my teeth right! I'm very thankful for the several referrals I got from people, to switch to this dental office and I'm very glad I did.
