Dr. You Jin is a kind, knowledgeable, and compassionate physician. He knew intuitively how to engage my husband who is in the being stages of memory loss. Earlier in the day my husband did not want to keep his appointment thinking there was no purpose for it. But after his time with the doctor, he felt encouraged and ready to meet the challenges that may possibly come. Dr. Chong has taken care of his health tests and referrals. However, it is his willingness to take the time with a person to set goals and find positivity in what otherwise might be a difficult diagnosis. If you are in need of serious medical attention and getting proper treatment, I would skip Dr. Chongs Office. To be clear nothing really matter with the Dr himself per se, the issue is with the ineptness and negligence of his staff. Do not in any shape or form expect a follow up call when you call his office for follow up care or have medical questions...., and if you need a referral to a specialist or outpatient treatment, DO NOT hold your breath, that follow up will never come until you incessantly call the office and threaten to call the Dr himself, although that's impossible as he never gets his messages and you can't speak with him. Holy smokes what's up with primary care physicians in Carlsbad? I just walked out of this MD office after an hour and fifteen minute wait. I sat in the lobby for 15 minutes and then they called me back took my weight and vitals then for an hour I sat on the exam table waiting for the doctor to come. No one came to give me an update on what's going on, and I'm sorry to say as I was leaving I gave the receptionist a bit of a hard time. Also want to point out that as I sat in the office I listened to the receptionist call multiple people to give them their test results. HIPAA not a priority. I'll take any recommendations on PCP in Carlsbad/Encinitas. read more

The staff is so unprofessional. We needed medical records, or have doctor fill out disability form. Forget trying to get anywhere by calling, they will either hang up on you or direct you to a voicemail. They charge $25 for the dr to fill out disability forms. As a nurse whose worked for other doctors, other doctors wouldn't charge an additional form just for the form. read more

This "wellness center" is in name only. There is an office set up to look like it offers a wellness program. It does not. Of course the excuse is because of covid but it has never offered the criteria needed to be considered a wellness center. This place should be reported as the only way this matters is for billing insurances. Especially Medicare patients. As a patient here, I couldn't be seen in the office for strep throat even though we were already out of masks mandates for months. The office staff still required masks which is perfectly OK. I was prescribed meds over the phone and diagnosed with strep without a visual exam or throat swab. Why? It's not considered within normal limits of care when you just disgnose without tests that are available to confirm or deny. Then, I needed a referral for PT for my neck. It was due to an accident my doctor well knew about. I go to the PT appointment and the staff want a ref7erral for an MRI on my neck. I called from the PT appointment to get this referral going and all of a sudden I need to COME IN for an appointment. Why? Not necessary. I couldn't get seen for symptoms of 104 degree fever, soar throat, nausea,...which could represent anything. But I was prescribed powerful antibiotic used to treat strep. I go to an appointment set up by this "wellness center" but then need to delay this treatment because now I NEED to walk in this office just to be handed a referral? Nonsense This telehealth appointment environment will show eventually a long list of fraud in the end. Same with wellness center titles given to a doctors office. Btw...this Dr. Is not my assigned doctor. It's his wife...whom I have made appointments with and never see her. It's her husband that sees me or addresses my needs. So much for thinking I selected A WOMAN DOCTOR AT A WELLNESS CENTER! ITS BS FROM THE BEGINNING. Who do I complain to? It's a husband wife team. This also should have been disclosed. A letter to my insurance and the medical board may be my recourse. I'm stuck due to my insurance for another year. Also, just a mention, read through the 5 star reviews. Great Doctor very competent. Listens and gets to root of your problem . Holistic approach and encourages patient to be and partner and take responsibility for their health. I had anxiety going to Doctor and he encouraged me to get all my age related tests and removed a lipoma on my forehead so it did not come back. Two other previous doctors could not remove it properly. Staff super nice and competent. You need to be proactive and partner with your Doctor. Do believe any less than great reviews. I have been with Dr. Chong for almost 10 years and find him to be a physician of the highest caliber. I trust him with not only my health but that of my wife and my son, as we are all in his care. His diagnostic skills are top notch and he seems to have the natural ability of putting you at ease. In fact, he was the only person that was able to get through to my son and help him lose weight. He was morbidly obese and I truly believe that his expertise and kind demeanor saved his life. Not to disparage other's experiences but I have had nothing but positive interactions with his current staff as well. They have gone out of their way to help with everything from prescriptions to benefit coverage, especially Karly and Helen. I feel very lucky to have him in my corner when I need him. read more

Yeah no. Fuck this place. Waited 3 goddamn weeks for my appt because I have a lump in my throat. A LUMP! Finally get in, speak to Dr. Chong (who seemed to be in a hurry), tells me he's going to send me to a specialist to scan the lump. Said he'll look over my insurance and will get me the office info for the specialist. Never heard back from them. Now been over a week, I called and the girl says "I will call you Tomorrow with the info once I talk to Dr". Never heard back. Called today and still nothing. Guy on the phone seems very confused. I have been seeing Dr. Yoo Jin and his wife Dr. Maribeth for over 7 years and cannot day enough good things about the level of care I receive and the genuine caring fir my health. As I read the other reviews all of them seem to be related to less than stellar office staff but those people are gone and current staff is wonderful . I refuse to be treated like a number and relationship is important to me to the doctor I entrust my care too and I can say unequivocally that I receive excellent care from the doctor and his staff. Dr. Chong has been my Mom's physician for 15 years. He has the most amazing bedside manner. He regales Mom with funny stories and always makes her feel special and patiently answers her questions. I have always appreciated his kindness. But NOW, I am writing this review because I credit him with helping my Mom survive Covid. He provided telemedicine appointments every single day of her illness, instructing me how to monitor her blood pressure, oxygen levels and fever. He made sure I got enough fluids and calories in her, even when she had no appetite. He was thoughtful and proactive in prescribing meds specifically to deal with managing the symptoms. Most importantly, I felt fully supported each day in deciding NOT to take her to the hospital, knowing he was overseeing her care and I was not alone. He is the best doctor and a great human being.
