I have been coming to this office for many many years.Front desk representatives are rude and lack empathy and are often on their cell phones. Hello office manager! When I call to make an appointment I sometimes can't get through, recently it took me almost 3 hours. Then I just drive down and amazingly was able to make an appointment. Surprisingly I must say. When I arrived the tv was so loud I forgot I was in a doctors office. Anyway I had my yearly physical recently with Dr. Wong. His compassion has also diminished. My physical exams seem to be less and less through as the years go by, Not sure if he has his hands tied since Optum took over but the quality of his care has been going down year after year. I go to a doctor for care while not often but depend on my annual physicals. On a positive note Lourdes is very compassionate and caring. She always seems to make me feel special when I visit. read more

Since my last review, Optum has taken over this office. The admins are all new and kind. Dr. Wong though I've unfortunately discovered through my visits only prescribes prescription meds with no reference to any natural remedies to supplement. I have hypertension. He never recommended me to a nutritionist either to assist me in losing weight. His best advice was for me to eat healthy and excercise more; stuff I should already know he says. All this doctor does is prescribe medication after medication. I've also taken blood work as to their recommendation and I never hear back from them nor are the results discussed with me by Dr.Wong when I go into my next visit. His nurse, Lourdes, wasnt pleasant for me to deal with as she always had something snarky to say right before measuring my bp. My results of course would be high but that's the number used for Dr. Wong to increase my dose or recommend another medication added on to what I was already taking My overall experience with Dr. Wong has been an overall disappointment. If medications don't work, he's got nothing else to give. There could have been more and better attention given to my visits and blood work results but there wasn't. Now I am a senior and get excellent care from Dr Wong and his staff He's got a great sense of humor which goes a long way with me. Lourdes , the medical assistant is incredibly rude , so much so she makes patients uncomfortable super unprofessional , she should not be working in a medical setting or with people anywhere just awful. Two week wait to even have a 5 minute phone call with the doctor. I really dont see what the point is of having a doctor who can only talk to you once you've recovered from whatever trouble you are having. Run away from this office if you want to live. My husband's friend recommended this office to my husband. Unfortunately, his friend died due to Dr. Wong's misdiagnosis and denial of medical care in 2022. My husband wrote a review here that this office was denying him of medical care even though he paid substantially for his insurance. He wrote a complaint to Optium regarding the office staff being rude and lied, and lied to him. This doctor does not know how to do a physical. When my husband went for his yearly physical after he transferred to this office Dr. Wong was in the room for five minutes and both he and his nurse were very rude. Dr. Wong never touched my husband and never did any blood work or any referrals even though my husband asked for referrals. We missed open enrollment and my husband went in for a second physical at the beginning of the year 2023 the second physical was worse and had no blood work or referrals. We were anxiously waiting for open enrollment this November to get out of Optimum and Dr. Wong. Unfortunately, my husband died on October 15, 2023, waiting for open enrollment to get real medical care. If you value your health and life run away from this office. read more

I recently called for a telemedicine visit only to find out they have gone back to in-person patient visits only or telemedicine only for COVID cases. The one thing I can say about COVID is that the modernization of services such as telemedicine was welcome, especially for routine visits for prescription refills. I am taking my appointment today but will look for a primary care office that offers modern services that cater to how patients would like to visit the doctor. I don't get the mentality of going back in time to an antiquated patient care system. read more

He had only been home from the hospital for one week. Diagnosed, not by Dr. Lawrence Wong whom he saw the beginning of May, but at Tricity hospital on June 21, 2022 with stage IV lung cancer with mets to lymph nodes. I will continue to file grievances or complaints where ever I can to try to get us a real Doctor in downtown Carlsbad. We should not have to leave the village to get responsible and safe care from a medical professional without have to pay through the nose for a PPO. Please please lets get a real Doctor and staff that truly care and want to help us "Do no harm." read more

Im very please with Dr. Wong. I have been searching and "Yelp"ing trying to find good reviews on local doctors. Since I just moved back. I needed someone who takes Aetna HMO. Most of the time being that its HMO its hard to find a doctor who cares(personal experience). So upon my first visit to his office. I had a hard time finding parking. there were a few spots in the garage area but mostly you would have to do street parking (which is totally fine). I went in and the reception desk greeted me and handed me the paperwork and took care of payment very quickly. I was seen very quickly and my daughter was able to play in the kids area. were they had some options of books, magnetics, chair, childrens table etc. Its very clean environment and pleasant. Wait time was very minimal after doing the paperwork and after my appointment time. I was personally there to get a reference for an OBGYN/Midwife. Doctor Wong was very comfortable to speak with and listened to my concerns and wishes and was able to direct me to someone who he feels will also be able to help further my requests. Seems like a great primary care doctor for myself and my family. read more

I was incredibly disappointed in the poor care I received from Dr. Wong & his staff. First of all in a past visit, the person drawing blood hurt me & blamed me for her not finding the right vein & then shamed me for not wanting the flu shot. I overlooked this poor etiquette because I usually appreciate Dr. Wong's quick visits, but today was different. Instead of Dr. Wong renewing a prescription for a cold sore medication, he stated I needed to make an appointment. I said that would be fine, but I need it today so I can take care of my self. He said the soonest was next week. How is this family care? It's so illogical & useless, I agreed to scheduling it if he could just renew prescription for lip. He refused. This is not caring for your clients, this is about getting a paid visit for a condition that is not of concern & he has used his power trip to force me to go to an urgent care for something this minor & during COVID. I have dealt with stomach problems for years (more than a decade) and the fact that I've spent more time having stomach problems than not is a really sad. I've gone to many doctors and GI specialists for my tummy issues but every doctor just related my stomach problems to stress and poor diet. Now that I'm 31 and STILL dealing with these issues, I decided, just for kicks, I'd let my new doctor, Dr. Wong, know when I was in there recently for a yearly physical exam. When I started discussing my symptoms, he immediately seemed to know what the issue was: a bacterial infection which can cause ulcers - h pylori for short. I'll save you the winded explanation - those interested, simply Google h pylori and you'll get the info. After this assumption from Dr. Wong, I took a simple Urea test that day in the office which took a week to get results, but they were positive for this bacteria. 19 years of doctors, colonoscopies, barium swallows, etc. and nothing led to the answer that Dr. Wong discovered immediately. I am steps away from doing cartwheels right now because I'm so happy! Highly recommend Dr. Wong. He's great and I couldn't speak more highly of him or his staff. read more

Had some health issues, Doctor stayed that only medication can help, no real solution exist for my problem. Well, found that natural solution online, no medication needed. Problem solved, and not by anyone in the clinic, just google. I feel it's not a bad doctor, just the fact that everyone have to make money, selling drugs is a good one. read more

Okay, so I really hate dropping a review from 4 stars down to 2, but enough is enough. Maybe this will get someone's attention... Dr. Wong is a great doctor, can't argue with you there, however I have had some MAJOR issues in the past 6 months with getting prescriptions refills both while in town and out of town. These are minor issues such as the office staff not checking their fax machine, not returning phone calls, not making phones, and other small issues like this. Business etiquette here needs to improve. I should not have to make several phone calls just to get a refill. read more

Dr. Wong is just phenomenal. I've been seeing him for a couple of years now. He has solved many of my medical issues by actually listening to me and working with my individual needs. I want to recommend him to everyone I know, he's just an incredible medical professional. Dr Wong is the best Family Doc in Carlsbad bottom line he's friendly he get's to the point and solves your problems, he's very smart and if he doesn't know something he leaves the office and figures it out " wait there's a doctor that's not such an ego-maniac he'll look something up or ask a peer that's not possible" it's true and it happen's all the time" I love this guy. I have to give Dr. Wong a full 5 stars. We were just visiting in La Jolla in order to visit LegoLand with our friends and their kids, but our son had been getting very ill. His pediatrician is back in Los Angeles, so it wasn't an option for us. Rather than running to a random urgent care, we were given Dr. Wong's name from someone at the hotel in La Jolla who just raved about him. We thought we'd give him a call, and were very pleased when the office said to bring our son in to be evaluated. We didn't have to wait when we arrived, and after quickly evaluating our son, Dr. Wong immediately began the necessary nebulizer breathing treatments, and had antibiotics administered. It turned out that our son was very ill, but the treatments given helped him to recover to a level that he was able to enjoy our trip. The important thing with medical care is to find a doctor that you can really believe in and trust, and that takes your best interests to heart. Front office is horribly unprofessional, I have spoken to them on several occasions and have been a patient of Dr. Wong's for over a year. My husband and I developed the same symptoms back to back after each other, so naturally I tried to speak with Dr. Wong my primary physician. The receptionist upfront told me that they do not have any information on my file telling me that I could do a video call at first then telling me that because they allegedly don't have any information on my file that I would have to do a physical appointment instead that was completely derailed from my timeframe . We have seen Dr. Wong numerous times and somehow he seems to be the only one that has it together. The front office staff is absolutely horrible as the reviews on here can tell you as well. I will not be seeing Dr. Wong again nor will I ever do business in this office for pure lack of inability to take responsibility and losing the information on my file and extreme unprofessionalism. read more

Really great doctor to go to if you need to establish a new Carlsbad, CA practitioner. He took my existing medicines and refilled no problem. Seemed to care that I have not (yet) gone to see my CA neurologist since I have been back in the area. Liked him, a lot. read more

Very stuffy and traditional. Not at ALL what I want in a doctor. Is not willing to work with patients and even says he has a "traditional view". Did not even take my temperature when I was in with a severe cough and other cold symptoms. Had to go to Urgent Care that night and get checked for pneumonia. The wait times are reasonable and he always listens and takes the necessary amount of time. He is also an exceptionally kind person. Never rushed, uses electronic records and has very good common sense advice. Smaller office with lots of personalized attention. Also, they do any blood work you need there in the office which is extra convenient. The office staff is also nice and very good natured. Billing is simplified and very easy to understood. Dr. Wong kept me waiting for more than 45 minutes on my last visit. No apology was given. His style consists of burying his face in his portable viewing device while hardly engaging the patient. The visit concluded with him forgetting to give me the paperwork I needed. HORRIBLE!!! I have seen him several times and have given him several chances so I feel my rating is quite justified.
