The place looks very clean. I've ordered here a couple times only for picking up. The food overall tastes good. I like their fried rice and their orange chicken. They cook them Halal style, which makes it even more interesting. As far as I'm aware of, this place is only doing takeouts, like what I did. This has been the default place to eat for my family for nearly 20 years, so dragon palace has a special place in my heart. They've changed a lot over the years but we've consistently loved the boiled fish in hot oil, green beans, salt and pepper pork, a tofu skillet dish, and the free scallion pancakes with lunch. Sadly haven't dined in because of the pandemic this year, so haven't been able to eat any of the scallion pancakes or any of the soups. The prices are good, for a family of 4 we generally order 4-5 dishes and never spend more than ~$60ish. Since we've been eating here for 20 years, the owners are super friendly and eating there is always a pleasant experience. read more

Having late lunch here right now. We ordered Fish fillet with sweet and sour sauce. The fish fillet is fresh and so soft and tasty. Yang Chow fried rice has freshly ingredients and taste soooo good. Cheap Szechuan food. I often come here once a month to get my fix during lunch. The day after is TMI. Ordering can be a challenge if you do not know Mandarin. If you're a Gwi Low try order something new. I always see them order chicken and broccoli. I shake my head in disgust because they can order that at any take-out place. Dragon Palace really has me torn. If you don't speak and can't read Chinese, you're basically SOL. Otherwise, this restaurant offer tasty, authentic Szechuan cuisine, completed with a mini-buffet of scallion pancakes, soup, and other quick and always-available starter dishes. The main thing with Dragon Palace is that their actual menu is entirely in Chinese. If you are looking for authentic Chinese food, you basically have to order in Chinese. Otherwise, you'll be saddled with some Americanized dishes and your entire experience ruined. Honestly, given the number of reviews asking for an English menu that preserves the authentic Chinese fare to no avail, I think this restaurant is trying to whittle/self-select their fan base to only the Chinese population. Once you get past the language hurdle, the food and experience are both great. The food is tangy and mildly spicy at times, and this is as close as I've gotten to decent, legitimately Szechuan fare in a long time, and definitely for the central New Jersey area. Quick place to stop by for lunch. They have a larger variety of dishes to choose from and all you can eat scallion pancakes, veggie fried rice and soups of the day. I tried the cumin beef, which was a simple stir fry vegetables and cumin seasoning. It was oily but flavorful. My friend had the double cooked pork which was basically stir fried leeks with the pork. Went here for dinner at 8pm last night, and we were the only table there. Ordered 3 dishes which all came out super quick: Cumin Beef, Bamboo shoots with pork, and stir-fried string beans. Cumin beef was lacking in cumin and the beef was over marinated and processed with baking powder that it lost some of the beef texture. Bamboo shoots with pork was under-seasoned, and the string beans were overly tough/old which made the veggies very stringy and hard to chew. When we arrived, they had their typical scallion pancake, hot & sour soup, millet congee, and taro dessert. The scallion pancake was deep fried and not pan-fried, the hot and sour soup was watery. By the time they brought the check over, they already took away the taro dessert! As the only table there, they could've given us the heads up that they were taking it away. Supposedly the sides are removed by 8:30pm, since they close at 9pm (or so they claim), but they didn't tell us that ahead of time either....what's worse, the hours on the door says they close at 9:30....not 9pm. Maybe they just make up their hours as they go. We were out the door by 8:50, and they refused service to the 2 other people that were coming in. It came out to $35+tax for the 3 dishes, with a cash discount. Been here several times, the service is definitely lacking every time, the quantity was just okay for the price, and overall left a lot to be desired. read more

Delicious authentic Chinese food, with many perks and a few negatives. This restaurant is located on Oak Tree Road in Edison, on the side of a small shopping center. It tends go be busy on weekends, but there shouldn't usually be a wait for a table. The inside is quite well-decorated. It looks like a typical Chinese restaurant: several 4-6 seater tables and a few large round tables with lazy susans at the center. The inside is dim, but clean and neat. There's a table at the center of the restaurant with complimentary all-you-can-eat appetizers/dessert: large pots of soup (porridge, hot and sour soup and sweet taro soup) and hot, yummy scallion pancakes. On that note, the complimentary sweet taro soup and scallion pancakes are absolutely delicious. The taro soup is sweet, hot and tasty--have a bowl for dessert. The scallion pancakes are crispy and hot, better than the ones at most Chinese restaurants and those aren't even free. As for the food, the dishes are classic Sichuan style with sharp, strong taste. The spicy dishes aren't that spicy, but I'm big on spice so that may not be the case for most people. The lunch menu is pretty reasonable, but the dinner menu is a little pricey (note: on weekends, lunch follows the dinner menu). On the dinner menu, main entrees are $11-18 while smaller dishes, like noodles or fried rice, are around $7-10. The portions are sizable, and you get a large complimentary bowl of rice. There are a few downsides though. Although one of the servers was very nice and accommodated all my requests quickly, in general you have to go out of your way to get things done. Servers won't be checking on you once all the food is on the table, so make requests when you're seated, when they come to take your order or when they're bringing dishes. Second, you're required to order at least one dish per person, as in if you have a 5-persons party you have to order at least 5 dishes. Lastly, the menu is completely in Mandarin Chinese. There may be a small English menu, but the main menu is only Chinese characters. This wasn't a problem for me because I could read most of the characters and I was with my parents, but obviously this could be a big problem for those who don't know Chinese. Overall, a fantastic authentic Chinese restaurant with great dishes and delicious complimentary pancakes/soups. If you dot have a problem with the downsides--as I didn't--I definitely recommend this place as one of NJ's best Sichuan restaurants. read more

The food, which for the most part, was very good, will be discussed a little later. My major recommendation is this is not the place to bring your kids or your in-laws. Since everything is Ala carte, they are not going to find the things they are used to ordering such as combination plates. Interestingly enough, and I have been to many "authentic" Chinese restaurants, they didn't have soup noodles (aka crackers) or even mustard. They only had "wasabi mustard". Can that really be? We arrived around 4PM and I asked about the soup and scallion bread, the waiter said he would check with the kitchen since it is only for lunch and dinner. In the meantime, a few minutes later, another couple arrive and they are pointed towards the table where there was apparently soup and bread. Our waiter did never get back to us about this. My MIL didn't like her egg roll and asked the waiter to take it off and remove it from the bill. Fortunately he did, otherwise I'd probably give this one one star for being totally unaccommodating. Our waiter was not rude but he was hardly helpful at all. The place needs a makeover. Just about every ceiling tile in the place had water stains and I'm talking brown ones. Time to replace, no? Our main courses; shrimp with lobster sauce, and seafood casserole with tofu were both very good and very large. The egg drop soup we ordered off the menu (since the waiter never got back to us on the complimentary soup) was also very large and very tasty. The soup and either of those dishes could easily be shared by 2. In summary, it was a good food experience but relatively indifferent service in a unhealthy looking atmosphere turned me off. read more

I have been going here for the past 7 years now. This place is absolutely fantastic. Everything is so spicy and flavorful. It's better than a lot of Chinese restaurants in Manhattan. This is one of my favorite Szechuan chinese restuarants. Additionally, the all you can eat scallion pancakes, hot and sour soup, congee, and sweet soup is definitely the cherry on top. I ordered the hot pot fish (very delicious). The fish was good, but the rice vermicelli was lackluster. The beef tripe appetizer is a staple with my family. We order it at every Szechuan restaurant, and this is one of the best places that makes it. I would definitely come back. There is nothing better than eating at this restaurant in the cold of winter and sweating off every chill that comes your way. read more

One of my favorite Chinese places in Edison so far. They serve primarily Sze Chuan dishes, which are usually spicy, so let the waiter taking your order know in advance if you would like it less spicy instead. Something I find unique to Dragon Palace is that they have a free flow section in the middle of the restaurant that offers two types of soup, the signature sour spicy soup and the heathy grain soup. On that table you can also find freshly pan-friend scallion pancakes which are nicer than a lot of other places that charge for them. At the end of your meal, stop by the table again for some dessert - delicious yam sago soup, my favorite! Now on to the dishes, I love their tofu. It's served one a hot plate lined with an omelette. The presentation of the dish draws me over instantly. One huge square sofu fried till crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, topped with seafood, vegetables and light sauce. It's the perfect balance to the other spicy Sze Chuan dishes we usually order. Another must have for us is the green pepper chicken cooked in red hot pepper, as well as the spicy tofu fish. We've had issues with the chicken in the past in which there would be occasions when the chicken was served overcooked. Usually the chicken would be tender and juicy if done correctly, in which the dish would be perfect. The free flow station of soups, appetizers and dessert is just the icing on the cake, and for me, especially the sweet yam sago dessert, seals the deal for making the trip out here. read more

Yes, this is one of those Chinese restaurants that have the separate menu for Chinese, so make sure you bring someone that can read the language; I bring my Beijing wife. Anyway, their food is quite authentic of the Sichuan province, so it's spicy and numbing (two of my favorite things!). There are many dishes to choose from and also many non-spicy food, like the milk and lamb hot pot. It's a simmering cauldron of lamb bones and chinese herbs, and milk, i.e. giving it a milky appearance and flavor. The decor isn't super nice but I overlook decor if the food is good. The big draw for my family is the "free" stuff. Scallion pancake and soup. There's nothing a Chinese person likes more than free sh*t so that is a huge plus for my fam. My dad ordered a whole bunch of things and they all were really tasty. My Chinese is terrible, and the menu was in Chinese so I really can't help you with what exactly we got. There was a fried pork chop thing, green beans with black beans, a tofu dish that was fried on the outside, cumin fish, eggplant, noodles and fried rice, and this pickled vegetable dish that I never remember what it's called and my mom makes it and I always mixed it in with my rice. You should never judge a book by its cover and that is definitely the case for this Sichuan restaurant. The strip mall and location aren't the nicest but the food is legit. This place gives you unlimited scallion pancakes, and hot and sour soup to go with your meal. Not only that, the food is well priced and comes out fast! A group of 8 ordered 8 dishes and they all came out in less than 10 minutes. We came around 530pm so they weren't too busy yet. I had to mention that they were insistent on our group of 8 ordering at a minimum of 8 dishes. We originally ordered 7 and they were insistent. This is probably because they want people to order more instead of eating scallion pancakes lol. That's the only con I've experience about this restaurant. What a good value for weekday lunch. For $8, you get to enjoy a pretty authentic dish and full access to the mini buffet which usually includes three soups, fried rice, and scallion pancake. Although these buffet items are pretty average, I can't complain because the price is so good! I have been here a few times and recommend these dishes: -The tofu on sizzling platter is very tender with a delicious gravy with peas and carrots -The water cooked fish is excellent. Well spiced and really something you should definitely get if you come here. I think I always get this when I come in a group haha -The beef tendon and vegetable tastes clean and refined. The only Chinese restaurant in the area that does authentic Chinese food and is not some Americanized Chinese take-out spot (you know when you see the restaurant filled with Chinese families). As typical, most of their good authentic menu items are on their Chinese menu only and not found on their English menu. English menu has a limited number of them. I usually call and ask if they have X, Y, Z based on past experience, and they usually say yes. If you are not Chinese, just drive past this place and save your time. The first time I went tg here was with a Chinese person, and everything was great. Tried going there by myself and had a horrible experience. They will likely pretend that they didn't see you, even after you walk up to the counter and wait to be seated. If you're still not leaving, you might be able to get seated but again, it will take a long time before one of the waiters hanging around aimlessly choose to acknowledge your existence. And asked the cashier if I can have a soup that was there.she said sure. I get soup and the owners chase me saying I not allowed to have the soup because I bought takeout! I even tipped 15%. Originally recommended to me by a co-worker, who swears that this is one of the best if not the best authentic Szechuan restaurants in NJ, I have now been here about 5 times in the past 3 months. I brought my father along and he also rants and raves about the food in this restaurant. 1st of all, forget about the English/American menu. The good stuff is in the Chinese menu and it is literally in chinese. Some other Chinese restaurants have a translated Chinese menu but not Dragon Palace. That is the only complaint I have, and its not a valid complaint as I am Chinese and should know or force myself to learn how to at least read and write Manadarin. So we have to be at the mercy of the waiters and manager. We tell them what we like, seafood or beef, spicy or not spicy and then they will recommend some dishes. Dishes of note: 1. Chinese Squash with a whiteish non-spicy sauce (awesome and refreshing) 2. Shrimp & Scallops with lotus and and asparagus (awesome) 3. Water Spinach (Kang-khong) sauteed in garlic sauce. The best way as Billy C. suggests is to order from the Chinese Menu. If you can't read Chinese, ask them for their Lunch Menu. The Lunch Menu actually lists the authentic Chinese dishes (in English) that are most popular here (Beef in Water, Cumin Beef, Bacon with Leeks, Bacon with Garlic Vinegar, MaPo Tofu). They will serve you a larger portion during dinner. This IS the place in NJ for authentic Schezuan fare. The service is pretty decent, but the food is absolutely fantastic. I've gone here for years with my family and it's always so good. The food here is authentic Sichuan cuisine and definitely delicious. The freebies such as the scallion pancake and sweet yam soup are always something to look forward to. It's a bit difficult I know for non-Chinese families to order here but don't worry because many of the guests here are native Chinese people and give great suggestions. My favorites here are the Tofu on Iron Pan, Eggplant with Fish, and Fu Qi Fei Pian. Definitely come to this restaurant if you want authentic food. read more

There was a wonderful flavor explosion mixed with heat if you're a heat type of a guy or gal that had my tongue dancing in delight. Yes I devoured and entire pitcher of h20 & tea while the sweat poured out of me in a wonderful way. Perhaps a bit oily but its so good once it touches your lips. The pure authentic presentation & intense flavors had me captivated from soup to dessert. I rarely bang out 5 stars after 1 visit not to mention at all. Don't miss this one kids. I can hardly wait to return to clear my sinuses and pat my brow down and dig into to some amazing Asian goodness and so should you. So this is a pretty traditional Chinese restaurant, Chinese menus, specials on the board only written in Chinese, everyone eating there was Chinese- kinda place. I got take out, and mostly american-style Chinese food. Scallion pancakes were awesome. Thick, good crunch, and you get a ton in 1 order. Loved it. Also loved the vegetable lo mein. 5 stars for those. General Tsao's had almost a nutty flavor, but a nice crunch and quality chicken. 3 stars. The steamed dumplings were 10 to an order, which was nice, but had an almost overwhelming star anise flavor. Luckily the dipping sauce was excellent and saved the dumplings. 2 stars of the dumplings, 5 for the sauce. Egg roll was large and had a ton of oil in it. 1 star. Not good. The recent visit of this establishment had been a disappoint one. For some reason, the fish was half cooked and the spicy pork liver had very stinky aftertaste. The waiter agree took off the fish dish from the menu but add 4 dollars on the bill for the complementary scallion pancake and hot and sour soup. Apparently, there is a new rule states that each person of a party must order a dish in order to enjoy this complementary for free. And since one dish took off the menu (we were party of six), this rule is taken into effect. We tried to communicate with the owner about the unpleasant experience but the owner insist the charge stays on the bill. We regret that we didn't report to the health department right then and there. Diner beware: the heavy and spicy dishes can be a great enjoyment; however, it also numb the sensory of tasting and leave room for using subpar quality ingredients.
