Where to start? The food and the service is always amazing. The lady in the front is super nice and alwys incredibly attentive to my needs when I order. I usually get sautéed broccoli and rice, and sometimes chicken wings and fried rice. The broccoli is always cooked with a good crunch and the white rice is always moist and fluffy. The sauce they use on the broccoli is also amazing. The fried rice and the wings is also good as a quick lunch, the wings is always crispy and nothing is ever soggy or greasy; everything always tastes fresh. I ordered white rice noodles with chicken and vegetables, I received Brown mush noodles with some chicken that was not cooked properly no vegetables just an onion slicer too sour very very sour. Ya know, I had hoped of the old reviews staying true and the new reviews fading, but I wasn't impressed by a single thing here. I kept trying to be positive with every bite, rapping back and forth with the girlfriend about what was good about it, in reality revealing all that was bad. I realized over the course of the meal that not only did nothing blow me away, there was something negative about every single item right down to the egg rolls. *The white rice was good, nice and sticky... *The Gung Bo wasn't spicy at all, instead it tasted heavily of licorice. *Sesame chickens flavor was fine but it needed to be crispy, it was tender but mushy * Egg rolls were similarly un-crisp, nothing great about the filling flavor or bite (no chew, no crunch) * Dim Sum was decent but I've had much better and their flavor profile was just off somehow, almost dirty or too earthy in a way. The first time I tried sitting here, they turned me away because they had a party coming and gave them the entire tiny restaurant. I ordered take out later the next day and this review reflects that food. I'm unimpressed and never need to return. Still searching for good, local, sit down Chinese; when I was a teenager we had a couple nice white cloth Chinese restaurants and now the scene is just littered with take out fast food, American Chinese. Everyone has "their" Chinese place, and I thought I had mine all figured out until I started ordering from here. From the outside it's really not much to look at and can be forgotten amongst the other places in Patchogue Village, but fear not! The Dragon Palace has some excellent Chinese food for the right price. They offer dine-in & take-out, both of which are great. Finding a great Chinese Restaurant in the area is an experiment in terror! Most are take out and very few are a "real" sit down venue. DP is a small festively decorated place that is a blast from the past...According to the front of the menu they cook food from a specific province in China which I have never heard of. When queried the very nice lady who served us joined us in laughter when asked exactly what that meant...obviously nothing! The food is Americanized Chinese that must be based in Cantonese cuisine. I ordered Crispy Orange Beef and got something unknown to me....the Beef was not Steak but the same meat in the Chow Fun...neither crispy or tasty. Not all was weird...the Spareribs were large, well cooked and tasty...Kudos! The staff gets 5/5 for effort, the food gets 2/5 for not being What the menu calls it and the place overall is a 3/5. They must be doing something right for the local clientele, probably the fact that there are so few if any sit down Chinese restaurants. This place is ok when compared to other Chinese places. The food sometimes has a fennel taste to it which I really don't care for. If you sit down and get their lunch special the portions are surprisingly small. The wonton soup had no garnish whatsoever in it, and I've had a few wontons I've stopped eating because they just didn't taste good. Nothing else here has had me do that, just the wontons. However the dining room is great as far as Chinese places go. If you want to eat out for Chinese this is the place to go and why these review is 4 instead of 3 stars. I left work at 5:30 to go to my friend's house in Patchogue and she said that she wanted some chicken lomein. I was like cool let me look up some places. I see Dragon Palace and ask what she thinks about that spot- she says she was there once and it was alright. I call the number listed on google multiple times and it keeps shutting me down- hanging up and bouncing back a User Busy message the second I hit send. I'm like ok. So I go to their website and it says to place an order from there. I order a chicken lomein, steamed vegetable dumplings, a spring roll, and cold sesame noodles with vegetables. It's now like- 5:45. I get a call a few minutes after I place the order and it's Dragon Palace. The guy is asking me to confirm what I ordered and is being like, mega terse and snippy and sassy with an attitude- almost mocking. He slams the phone down in my face without so much as a brief farewell. The food is supposed to be delivered to my friend's house which is also in Patchogue. The same town as Dragon Palace. We figure it'll take maybe 35-45 min max because it was a Saturday night and maybe they're busy. It's a little over an hour now and still not a peep. Not a knock at the door, or a call, or anything. So we call. A woman answers the phone and asks if she can help me, I go hey I'm just wondering if you guys were able to find the house alright - she goes what do you mean? I'm like we placed an order for delivery a little over an hour ago and just wanted to make sure you guys were alright- she goes what's your address? I give it to her. She like slams the phone down on the counter but doesn't hang up and she starts brutally screaming her face off in Chinese to I guess the other dude who took the order and he's yelling back to her and it sounded savage as feck, bro. Like they were about to rip each other's faces off and scream louder and more primally into each other's skeletal ripped off faces. Wild. I had the phone on speaker this whole time so me and my friend are just looking at each other with our eyebrows raised in astonishment like "wow" and silently appreciating the level of sheer terrifying absurdity. The woman picks the phone up and says it's on its way and smashes that phone down so viciously it probably exploded into dust. We wait some more...we're basically just twiddling our thumbs growing hungrier by the minute because we were already mega hungry when we called. Finally we get a call ALMOST TWO HOURS LATER!!! That the MSG dealer is here. It's like 7:20something at this point and we're like damn damn damn my son. We tell him how to get to her apartment and he comes and delivers the food. We ravenously tear the bag open and put all the tepid foods out on the table. She eats her chicken lomein and doesn't say much- I eat some of the BLAND AND TASTELESS vegetable dumplings out of sheer desperation. I eat the tiny spring roll probably the exact size of my flippin middle finger or thumb and it was pretty shot as well. Basically, the coup de grâce of this entire debacle was when I opened the sesame noodles with vegetables and ate some- it tasted like someone just put wet plain noodles with MSG water into a container, and then put like- some strange transparent vague-to-no-flavor "sauce" in with it, fam. It was viscerally upsetting. I started to frown. Like 15 mins later I'm extremely bored, sleepy, and delirious. I get up and walk right into/smash my head right into the spiral staircase in the middle of my friend's living room. I fall back onto the floor whisper shouting through my clenched teeth. I get up and sit back down on the couch, even more sleepy. I guess an hour later my friend wakes me up and goes dude you've been sleeping for like 45 min to an hour. Eff this place, my man. I'll never go here ever again. Most shot, anti-climactic, disappointing dining experience as of late. Based on Robert L's reviews (Thanks Robert!) and the sheer brightness of the eatery I had to try the food. Upon entry you will notice the super friendly staff. Inside is clean, super clean. It's an open airy layout yet still cozy. I opted for takeout and yes they pack it well. The Menu's a couple dollars more than your average takeout but well worth it. The food is seriously amazing. The oil used to cook the food is not overpowering and allows everything in the pork fried rice to have its own flavor. They have a crab Rangoon they refer to as "Fortune Cheese Wonton." These tasty artery cloggers are giant deep fried triangles of cream cheese and crab meat. They are bigger than a Wonton; more of a smaller empanada. If you like the Crab Rangoon I highly recommend these bad boys. The pork egg roll was a little peppery they are made a little different than how I like them prepared but still good. I went with the Boneless spare rib dinner. My entree was a huge portion, Great marinade, a good quality meat. Shang Shui really raises the bar on Chinese food in the area. I kinda feel like all bets are off on my other favorites out here. I can't wait to dine in with Wifey. Stopped by this Chinese restaurant in Patchogue for lunch. We were warmly greeted upon entry and sat in their small, old school Chinese restaurant looking dining room. Lunch started off on the wrong foot with wonton soup that tasted more like chicken soup. Followed up by a delicious general Tso's chicken. Equally good was the orange chicken. Both dishes very tasty and had a slight heat. The fried rice is nicely done as well. Service was very attentive and prices are reasonable. We love this place. It's the only Chinese food we order. We have been using the Dragon Restaurant as our delivery Chinese food. They deliver promptly which gives them the 5th star. Not only do they deliver, but the food is excellent. We always order some shrimp dish and the shrimp is cooked perfectly. I like the chicken and broccoli too. Broccoli is never over-cooked. Shrimp egg rolls are perfect too, not too greasy. Wonton soup has so many wontons, it could be a meal in itself. We usually save some for the next day. The order is delivered to our door in 1/2 hour. The food is hot and delicious. We order for two people but have enough food for another dinner and sometimes a dinner and lunch. Definitely try them! Hope that helps! read more

The food is good, but service has pretty much shit the bed. I recently went to pick up a take-out order and arrived in twenty five minutes as they asked. They were really backed up, being told " a few more minutes." I waited around in the doorway for another twenty-five minutes before they realized they never put my order in. Had them checking their caller ID's and menu sheets. Close to an hour's wait and I left with no food, though in all fairness, they offered to make it up for me if I gave them another ten minutes, and when I refused, offered to deliver it to my house, though this seemed to be more about getting my money than satisfying a steady customer. Been there a couple of times. It doesn't really shine. They have limited staff, we stopped in to order take-out, so we were able to observe what was going on for about 20 mins. The women in the front is the hostess, waitress, bar tender, cashier, bus, and answers the phone, Oh, she has her young son hanging out there too, so she's also being a mom, ALL AT THE SAME TIME. This creates some challenges in the service area. We frequently heard yelling and arguing coming from the Kitchen. They obviously have communication issues. Regarding communication: Language can become an issue if you ask a non standard question. Example, "What are your gluten free entrees?" Answer: "Everything contains gluten." Us, "Even the fried rice?" Answer, "Yes, sorry." My wife is allergic to gluten. We were disappointed to hear this. I'm still looking for the authentic Chinese experience in Suffolk Co. read more
