Since moving to Medford, I've returned to Lotus East more times than I can remember, at least 35 times is a minimum! I ate there last night for New Year's Eve! Not one table was empty so the half hour wait for a table was nothing at all! There has never been a wait any other time I have been there! My favorite waiter is Tommy and I get seated in his area every time I'm there! Last nights dinner was over the top! One thing about Lotus is their dishes are very consistent! Never once have I had to return anything! The big bowl of noodles were so crunchy and good (the homemade duck sauce is the best) and Tommy was back at my table always making sure my glass was filled with ice water! I was with a friend so I ordered the Spare Ribs and she ordered Sesame Shrimp! The complete dinner price of $24.99 always applies for anything on the menu! We both had Wanton Soup, an Egg Roll and Spring Roll and Ice Cream for dessert! The Egg Rolls and Spring Rolls are NEVER oily and always served piping hot! The Spare Ribs had so much meat on them and so flavorful I could only eat 2, there are 8 in an order! The Sesame Shrimp was prepared perfectly, not deeply fried at all and in a delicate sauce as well, it's the best version of I've ever had of Sesame Shrimp! The portions are always plentiful so you will have left over for lunch or dinner again the next day! It's been hard to find a sit down Chinese restaurant on the island with the casual old school dining room, so when I came upon this place I was excited to try it out.....until I read the yelp reviews. Against my gut feeling and fellow yelpers I decided to give it a try any way, and I'm VERY happy we did. Service was great, food was very good, the portions were insane and the prices were more than fair. $25 for the dinner special gets you a soup, egg roll/spring roll, main entree, & dessert. They did not skimp out on the portions at all we both left with full dinners for tomorrow night. Wonton soup, sesame chicken, chicken & broccoli were all great. I'm still surprised by the amount of negative reviews, either we got VERY lucky or many reviewers were very unlucky during their visit. Fairly busy for a Sunday, we were sat at a table immediately and served fried noodles with duck sauce and mustard. The noodles were a nice size, fresh and crisp and the duck sauce had a pleasant sweetness. My husband ordered the House Steak, I ordered the Seafood Wor Bar and we ordered roast pork fried rice. The steak portion looked like 2 small Salisbury steaks smothered in BBQ sauce and served with giant stalks of broccoli. Although the portion was disappointing, he said it was flavorful. My Seafood portion consisted of a ridiculous amount of vegetables and hardly any seafood. Although it was supposed to include crab, which I assumed would be imitation, there was no crab to be found. The lobster was a stringy, chewy mess. And then there were a few shrimp and scallops, no flavor to anything. The fried rice was nice and dark with good flavor, but had too many sliced onions. Mediocre at best. Three stars for the old school sit down Chinese-American dine in vibey experience, but the food we ordered was so bland I took it as leftovers and it needed sooooo much sautéed garlic, soy & oyster sauce and a dab of toasted sesame oil at home to make it edible. We got a bunch of Lunch specials because we happened to be there during lunch so they came with pints of wonton soup that required a magnifying glass to see the meat inside the wontons. Broth was meh. Same with the general Tso's chicken, which I haven't ordered in maybe 20 years but did for nostalgia and they were fried balls of hard batter. General Tso's batter more like lol I also think they're anti garlic here also :/ You've heard of gluten free, Lotus is garlic free. Maybe they're catering to the area and maybe something in the Suffolk County water killed everyone's taste buds, but unfortunately I don't think I'll ever return because I still have my taste buds intact :( read more

This is a really good Chinese restaurant. We came here during a visit with my husband's mother. She suggested we eat here. When we arrived, the staff was very nice. We were sat at a large table and they were very sweet to my little tot. We stuck with the lunch menu. All of the options came with soup, fried rice and an egg roll. The one thing I didn't like was that there was no option listed if you didn't want wonton soup or and egg roll. Although, I'm sure they would provide an alternative if requested. Everyone enjoyed their food. The other patrons at this time of day were all older people and they were very nice, coming by to say hello to my Little. read more

Very surprised with our visit today, we had an excellent lunch! And our waiter? Top notch, very personable. It's Saturday afternoon and my wife is craving Chinese food. I said the best in the area is Lotus East, are you down to clown? Sure enough, in the cold rain, she leapt out of the car and snagged a table for two. Inside, crisp white table clothes and a huge fish tank are part of the Lotus East interiors charm. Their lunch special is crazy good! General Tso chicken for me and my wife ordered the spare rib special. Each meal comes with a choice of soup, (1) egg roll as well as a choice of different rices: White Brown Pork fried rice Then give you the tastiest fried noodles to start, it comes with duck sauce and chinese hot mustard. You're feelin' me now aren't you Yelper? Those noodles are the sauce! My General Tso's had me standing at attention! White meat only with not too much breading. Just cooked perfectly. After we finished, our meals come with dessert. Pistacho please for both of us. We haven't been to Lotus East in a while, I highly recommend coming here for their fabulous lunch specials. read more

First time eating out in a sit down Chinese restaurant and it was Grand! We were welcomed and given a nice round 4 top for our group of 4. We perused the menu and ordered from the Specials $22.95 menu which had a good offering of items. Started with soups which were hearty and nice portions and tasted great! Egg Rolls were very good and not greasy. I had Tangerine Beef which was perfect with nice hints of peel for flavor. The Chicken and Chinese Eggplant was good but kinda soggy and not tasting of any garlic which was requested. I must mention the delish noodles for the table, crisp, large and great for dipping in their tasty Duck Sauce, mustard and hot oil. Service was terrific and our waiter was great...took good care of us... We must return to eat off the ala carte menu and try their many other dishes. Best place in town for sit down Chinese. Great service and great food in a clean, tasteful environment. I can't say a single bad thing.

This is the place my family always chooses to go to when I visit them on Long Island. They always enjoy their meals. The specials include soup And dessert (and I think an eggroll?). The portions are huge and they are always very happy. The staff there are friendly and accommodating. My only complaint is that as a vegan, I cannot order from the special, but the waiter always tries to convince me to do so. It would make no sense for me to do this, however, since there are no soup or appetizers I can eat, nor do I eat ice cream. It's frustrating to always have to explain why I have to order from the regular menu. How about a vegetarian soup offering, or a vegetable spring roll? read more

Traditional American Chinese Restaurant. This is a sit down restaurant like the ones we went to when I was a kid. Try an appetizer and a new entree. The food here is very good so why not be adventurous. We had steamed dumplings and tangerine chicken. Great! The ambiance brings you back a few decades and is fun. This is a fantastic spot for sit-down Chinese food. We've been going here for dinner for years and are never disappointed. My husband and I took our 3 kids for lunch there today and couldn't believe what a fabulous deal it was. Lunch came with soup, an egg roll, and a dessert, and we ended up taking half of it home because the portions were so generous. The ribs, the chicken in garlic sauce, and the shrimp with eggplant were all standouts. 4.5 Stars.    Lotus East II is the best Chinese food that I have had since my family and I ate in Chinatown San Francisco during the summer of 2009 a few days before Michael Jackson passed away. To give you a perspective of how first-rate Lotus East II is, is to peruse my Yelp "Chinese Restaurants" list. This list features 61 Chinese restaurant reviews in seven states that dates back to 2011. For Lotus East II to be my favorite on this list, speaks volumes.   When I returned to Long Island for a week in late October to see my dad, our second meal took place here. It was my first sit-down Long Island Chinese restaurant meal in approximately fifteen years. I think very highly of sit down Chinese restaurants that are first-rate. Unfortunately there are far less of them in the Port Jefferson area from when I lived on Long Island. A few of the sit down Chinese restaurants that the Port Jefferson area lost are Diamonds, Lums Islander, and Ho Ho Inn. The first-rate ones that exist such as Lotus II are precious. Regardless that Lotus East II is a fifteen mile drive from the Lake Ronkonkoma area, it was far less of a distance from the six hour flight to Vegas where I live. All of the words hitherto now emphasize the point that this was a precious meal.      Lotus East II is a cozy and intimidate restaurant with white tablecloth dining. The interior, lighting, pictures, fish tank, and interior design is attractive. Just like the lunch special menu options.     The lunch special is a really attractive deal. Especially when the Chinese food is so delicious. It is $11.95 and served Mondays to Saturdays excluding holidays from 11 am to 3 pm. What I ordered included crunchy noodles with duck sauce & hot mustard, wonton soup, chicken chow mein (New York style) with fried rice, & roast pork egg roll, strawberry ice cream, and hot tea. The wide noodles led off the meal. They were crunchy and tasty. My dad says that you can tell a very good Chinese restaurant by the noodles. The bowl of wonton soup followed. The bowl was more of a cup that included two wontons. Regardless of the small size, I was impressed by the taste. The antithesis of the small bowl of wonton soup was the following dish that our attentive and pleasant waiter placed on the table. It was a large dish holding generous portions of New York style chicken chow mein, fried rice, and a roast pork egg roll. The reason why I mentioned a couple of times that this is New York style chow mein is because in different parts of the United States including Las Vegas where I currently reside, chow mein is noodle based. This style of chicken chow mein is currently served in only a handful of Las Vegas restaurants. You can see why my taste buds were in cloud nine eating the New York style of chicken chow mein that is difficult to find where I live and off the charts delicious when I ate it in Mount Sinai, New York. The same holds for the roast pork egg roll. The hot tea that I drank with the meal was likewise out of this world. Last but not least, a generous serving of strawberry ice cream topped off the meal.     When you look at the storefront of Lotus East II, it looks like any other strip mall alongside Route 25A. Who would think that it would beat out storefronts including ones in Chinatown Boston, the Las Vegas Strip, Chicago, Seattle, Magazine Street in New Orleans, and over fifty others to be the best Chinese restaurant at the time of this writing on my Yelp "Chinese Restaurants" list that dates back to 2011. read more

First time here and will definitely be back! They have good specials / combo dine in deals and the staff is funny and friendly. Ordered 2 dinner specials which came with your choice of meal and white or brown rice, soup, appetizer and dessert. They have a great drink menu and the noodles with duck sauce are delicious. It pains me to give only 2 stars to one of my Favorite chinese restaurants. I have been going to Lotus for many years on and off, but tonight's order was a shocker! The wonton egg drop soup was completely tasteless, as if they just scrambled some eggs together and added hot water, no salt, no garlic, no green onions, NOTHING! next up was the shrimp and lobster sauce but this time neither the shrimp or the lobster sauce had any flavor at all! We're not even gonna talk about the shrimp fried rice! I might try them again if I hear they have a new Chef, hope they read this!! read more

Ordered shredded pork, meat was slimy very mushy. So I asked to change for Shredded beef instead, same meat, slimy and mushy. Did not eat any of it, send back the full plate. I have been going there for years, what a disappointment? On top of that they did not even make attempt to take it off the bill. I can get better Chinese food at local take out. read more

We three friends had an amazing pre-Christmas dinner yesterday. Everything was on point, chicken with cashews, beef chow fun, shrimp with lobster sauce (the REAL kind with whole egg, pork and scallions and NO PEAS and CARROTS). Hidden gem on long strip mall. We were with our family for Sunday lunch. Pretty quiet inside, our first time there. Surprisingly, menu is large, service was great. Very respectful to our elderly mother. Our order: seafood soup, Peking Duck, steamed large fish (forgot the name of that fish), seafood crispy basket and fried shrimps. All excellent dishes. We took parents for Sunday dinner, my mom and dad love this place. I was second guessing due to the mixed reviews but was willing to give it a try. Maybe it was luck but we hit it right on the perfect night. I had to give it five stars because everything went so well. Since it's Chinese New Year they had some amazing specials. For $18.95 you receive soup, egg roll, selected main entree, ice cream/ fruit dessert. And unlimited fried wonton noodles and tea. There were seven of us and every person raved about how delicious their meals were. The cocktails were awesome too! I forgot our servers name but I attached a photo of him. Thank you very much for a lovely time. We appreciated your patience, service, advise and funny personality. You were amazing and an asset to Lotus East. The food here is over- rated and nothing special at AT ALL - I know Lotus has more then one place named the same, but this one in Mt. Sinai is no better then your Bad take out... We did not enjoy anything we ordered because everything was soaked in the usual heavy thick sauce we all had as kids. The egg rolls even were just plain bad not good.. Fried rice was nothing special either...Next door is a Sushi place and we should have gone there ! They are brain dead in this place and will finally go out of business soon...GET A REAL CHEF !! Made a reservation 2 weeks ago for dinner being that they were having a Chinese new year celebration. We show up for our reservation and there is a line of people also with reservations waiting to be seated. They obviously took too many reservations and were not able to accommodate. (From what I understand there are new owners, so this was their first year hosting this. I understand that part.) We we're told people who were seated earlier and done eating would not get up as they wanted to see the show, we were promised that we would have a table after (we along with others waiting for their tables, were disappointed as we made a reservation for that reason) We did not get a table in time for the show. After waiting now an hour past our reservation and the show being well over, there was still no table for us. There was nothing offered to us to accommodate us or the other patrons standing in a hallway this long past our reservation time. We were a party of 8- four of which are children the oldest being 8. It's 7:45(our reservation was 6:30) and they are hungry so they are getting antsy (but very well behaved, my kids are not usually as well behaved as they were last night) That is when the owners childern decided to sit there- talking down to our kids and making fun of our kids!! A table of four opened and we were told to have our children sit (with out an adult) After declining to sit our children alone, we brought up to the woman that we were not very happy that her two children were making comments to and about our kids. The kid then starts being rude to us passing comments that we shouldn't have come out to their restaurant on a busy night and not expect to wait - among other comments. After one more comment (making fun of the 3 year old in our group directly to him) we LOST it and left. I have heard many great things about their food and was looking forward to eating there. But I will NEVER step foot in that restaurant again nor will anyone I know due to the way my group was treated. read more

Used to love this place. They had great specials, the food was the best in the area and nice place to sit down and be served. But this place went downhill. I went here recently for my birthday and the food was disgusting and flavorless. (Wonton soup, chicken, steak) Server was rude and I felt as if he was annoyed and didn't want to serve us. Only thing consistent was the portion size. So time for the bill, this is when it gets BAD...our bill was $160 (rounding up). My grandma tips $25 and he looks and says not enough I want more. (How ******* rude to say to someone) So she's like ok, I can see her getting upset. I'm helping her with her jacket and purse and I drop my school ring (fml). My mom and I start to look for it and the server starts looking under the table. I'm unsure if he was being nice or just trying to find the ring, but my gut says the second. Anyways, I find my ring and he's still telling her it's not enough. So now she gave him another $20 equaling $45. We're walking out and he's following us to our car screaming "not enough, I want more money, another $20" Really you want a $65 tip on a $160 check?! Quick math lesson: 15% is average: 15% is around $25 for our bill. He got around 28% = $45. What he was asking for was a 45% tip. Definitely not. My grandma was so upset, shaking and asking us is that enough. She was ready to give him more money to get him to stop. From other reviews I guess he does this regularly. If I could give zero stars I would. Needless to say we're NEVER coming back, not unless I'm getting tipped. read more

Will NEVER go here again. Chose to have my rehearsal dinner for my wedding here. Not even 2 mins after the food was served, I took the first bite of my meal and then all of a sudden heard my 80 year old grandfather gasping for air choking. We were panicking and trying to do everything we could. Heimlich maneuver, CPR. We were all screaming for help as my grandfather was turning blue and collapsing to the floor. While this is going on the staff just stood there and watched doing NOTHING. They never called 911 never came over to help move tables out of the way so we could lie him on the floor. Luckily an amazing couple at the restaurant jumped in to help. Once the ambulance arrived and the EMT's started working on my grandfather they still never once came over. In fact, they actually started to seat other guests as my grandfather is on the floor of their restaurant barely breathing. Just so everyone knows how serious this was he is now at the hospital in CCU Now is where I really became disgusted. Once my grandfather is rushed away in the ambulance they had the nerve to come up to my parents as we are all crying and shaken up to let them know that they still expected them to pay half the bill. Keep in mind no one ate more than a bite before this happened and some had not even received their meals yet. Then to top it off, in order for my aunt to be able to go up to the hospital, to be with her father, she asked if two of us would mind waiting with her children till their dad got their to pick them up. We went there for my husbands birthday celebration with another couple. We ordered off the specials menu which is 24.95 for a complete dinner. You get soup, appetizers, entree and dessert. I ordered the chicken chow main with wonton soup and pork egg roll. I got chocolate ice cream for dessert. You have your choice of ice cream or pineapples. My chicken chow main was awesome. Had great flavor. The portion I could share it with another person and there would be still more to take home. We also got an order of spareribs and they were awesome also and had nice flavor. The other guests had a shrimp chowmein and chicken with Chinese vegetables and they raved about it. My husband had the beef with broccoli and enjoyed it also. We will be going back again read more
